American singer-songwriter Buffy Sainte-Marie has been stripped of more Canadian music awards and honors.

On Friday, the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences said it was revoking the Juno Awards and the Canadian Music Hall of Fame prizes earlier given to the Oscar winner. The move follows a 2023 investigation by the CBC’s The Fifth Estate series that alleged Sainte-Marie had been fraudulently posing as Native throughout her 60-year career.

The singer-songwriter earlier this week confirmed she had returned her Order of Canada honor – the country’s highest civilian honor – after she confirmed she’s an American citizen and holds a U.S. passport, but insisted she had been adopted as a young adult by a Cree family in Saskatchewan. In a statement, Caras confirmed Sainte-Marie was American, making her ineligible for Canadian music prizes and honors.

The third season of Reacher recently arrived on Prime Video, and once again trouble has found the show’s titular character. This season follows Reacher as he infiltrates the nefarious rug business of a man named Zachary Beck. Acting undercover as a man on the run, Reacher is tasked with locating a missing DEA informant while he works to uncover how his old foe Quinn is mixed up with Beck’s business.

As is the case with every season of Reacher, its cast of characters always changes. While a few characters have made various appearances here and there throughout the series, the show’s core characters each season are always different. Given Reacher prefers to travel from city to city with nothing but a toothbrush in his pocket, he always encounters a brand-new set of allies and enemies. Below is the cast of Season 3 and where viewers have seen them before.

Since 2021, fans have not been rewarded with a new Battlefield game. The primary game gap is getting to be the longest in the franchise’s history, as more than three years have gone by since the controversial Battlefield 2042 launch. But that’s probably for a good cause.

Now that thorough playtests are beginning, EA appears committed to making amends with Battlefield 2025. Despite being a huge franchise in the gaming world, this series never shed some light on the silver screens, but that might become a reality in the near future.

Canadian American singer-songwriter Buffy Sainte-Marie has been stripped of the Order of Canada, the country’s highest civilian honor.

“Notice is hereby given that the appointment of Buffy Sainte-Marie to the Order of Canada was terminated by Ordinance signed by the Governor General on January 3, 2025,” a Feb. 8 notice in the Canada Gazette, the federal government’s official publication, stated.

No reason was given for the termination, but the notice was signed by Ken MacKillop, secretary general of the Order of Canada. The move, however, follows a 2023 investigation by the CBC’s The Fifth Estate series that alleged Sainte-Marie had been fraudulently posing as Native over the course of her 60-year career.

Despite starring the incredible and timeless Sean Connery in the film, the original Highlander was a terrible attempt at establishing a high-concept project in the mid-80s. British authorities have granted Julian Assange leave to appeal his U.S. extradition order in a victory for the WikiLeaks founder amid his ongoing legal battle.

The two U.K. judges deferred a decision in March on whether Assange, who is hoping to avoid being prosecuted in the States over espionage charges, could take his case to another appeal hearing.

The 52-year-old had been granted an appeal only if the Biden administration was unable to provide the court with suitable assurances, including that he is ensured freedom of speech protections and will not receive the death penalty.

The decision follows a British court ruling in April 2022 that Assange could be sent to the U.S. That ruling came after a legal battle that went all the way to the U.K. Supreme Court. Assange’s appeal was his only remaining legal avenue in the U.K. justice system.

A detailed investigation by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation has raised questions about the indigenous persona of singer/songwriter Buffy Sainte-Marie.

Sainte-Marie has been feted as the first Indigenous person to win an Academy Award for cowriting the song Up Where We Belong for the film An Officer and a Gentleman.

Sainte-Marie, 82, has claimed that she was born on Tribal land and adopted by white parents. The CBC countered that in a report published Friday and in an accompanying episode of the documentary series The Fifth Estate. The media outlet obtained a birth certificate saying Sainte-Marie was born to parents of European ancestry in Massachusetts.

The CBC reported that the birth certificate from Stoneham, Mass. showed “Beverly Jean Santamaria” and her parents listed as white. The CBC said it had the document authenticated by Stoneham town clerk Maria Sagarino.

Sainte-Marie, alerted to the revelations that would be coming, issued a statement posted to social media Thursday.

While the specifics about Sainte-Marie’s background varied as they appeared in articles and other materials over the years — The Fifth Estate found news clippings referring to her as Algonquin, Mi’kmaq and Cree — eventually her accepted (and authorized) biography was that she was born in 1941 on Cree land in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan and removed from her birth family and adopted by a white American family, the Sainte-Maries, as part of a government policy known as the Sixties Scoop. Later, as a young adult, she reconnected with the Cree people and was adopted by descendants of Chief Piapot according to Cree ways.

Buffy Sainte-Marie has released a statement defending her Indigenous heritage, a move that appears to be in response to upcoming documentary that is expected to raise questions about the subject.

The musician and activist — who became the first Indigenous person to win an Oscar for her musical contribution to the 1982 film An Officer and a Gentleman — appears to be the subject of an upcoming episode of the Canadian television series The Fifth Estate. Out October 27th, the episode description says “an icon’s claims to Indigenous ancestry are being called into question by family members and an investigation that included genealogical documentation, historical research and personal accounts.”

The description does not mention Sainte-Marie by name, but the artist released a statement about the episode, claiming that the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation contacted her “to question my identity and the sexual assault I experienced as a child.”

The Toronto International Film Festival announced on Thursday that Emmy and BAFTA winner Benedict Cumberbatch will be the second actor honored with the TIFF Tribute Actor Award, receiving it alongside the previously announced Jessica Chastain.

With his new film The Courier finally due out in UK cinemas this week, we had the pleasure of catching up with star Benedict Cumberbatch to discuss the new thriller that shows an important part of history that we – and many more, we suspect – would not have been aware of before.

The Courier sees Cumberbatch star as British businessman Greville Wynne, unwittingly recruited into one of the greatest international conflicts in history. Forming an unlikely partnership with Soviet officer Oleg Penkovsky (Merab Ninidze) hoping to prevent a nuclear confrontation, the two men work together to provide the crucial intelligence used to defuse the Cuban Missile Crisis.

“I think the music is like another character in the story for all three films—the soundtrack as well as the score,” Madeira told TheWrap. “They had such a big part in telling the story and the trajectory of what the characters were going though.

The “Fear Street” trilogy centers around Shadyside teens who, after multiple gruesome killings, get together to take on the evil force that’s been tormenting their town for centuries. David Bowie’s The Width of a Circle, a collection of non-lp singles, alternate versions, and BBC sessions that he recorded in 1970, is set for release on May 28th.

The late singer’s latest archival compilation boasts 21 unreleased recordings, including many culled from a 14-song session for John Peel that was recorded February 5th, 1970, as well as Bowie’s five-song score for the BBC drama Pierrot in Turquoise a.k.a The Looking Glass Murders, which featured Bowie in the role of a pantomime.

Johnny Flynn’s star has been on the rise in recent years, and will be propelled a little higher on Jan. 29 with the release of period drama “The Dig” on Netflix, in which he appears alongside Ralph Fiennes, Carey Mulligan and Lily James.
