Magic City: An American Fantasy: Docuseries Explores Atlanta’s Iconic Strip Club...

Starz has acquired the rights to “Magic City: An American Fantasy,” a five-part documentary series centered on the iconic Atlanta strip club. The series is set to premiere this summer.

The docuseries, which is executive produced by heavy-hitter musicians Drake, Jermain Dupri, will uncover the story behind the famed Atlanta strip club, Magic City, and its decades-long influence on hip hop. It was created by Cole Brown, who also serves an executive producer alongside Jami Gertz and Bayan Joonam.

“From politicians, to artists, to drug kingpins, Magic City has been a home for a broad cross-section of Black Atlanta for decades,” Brown said in a statement. “Everyone should know the unbelievable story of this institution and the man who founded it, and Starz is the perfect partner to bring it to the world. We’re thrilled.”

With the Paramount+ prequel series “Dexter: Original Sin” going back in time to explore the formative experiences of 20-year-old avenging serial killer (Patrick Gibson), there’s a hope that it will help turn back the clock for the production community in Miami, which serves as the setting for both it and the original show, “Dexter” (2006-2013). Like its predecessor, “Dexter: Original Sin” does the bulk of its shooting in Los Angeles and Long Beach, but it’s still a good advertisement for what Miami has to offer producers.

“We wanted to get the full impact of the beauty and the texture and the architecture, the water and the atmosphere that is specific in Miami,” says Danielle Blumstein, co-head of production for Counterpart Studios, which produces the series with Showtime Studios. “We looked for locations that would help ground us and kind of celebrate that city.”

Its perhaps too early to say, but Tulsa King appears to be flowing through the same rivulet as Breaking Bad regarding critical and fan reception. This is hardly surprising, considering that the show has a wide variety of ingredients that make it tasty. It is produced by the great Taylor Sheridan and written by Terence Winter, who, throughout his long career, has been a magnificently sensitive observer of gangster dynamics. The “Walking Dead” star will embark on his first unscripted project as he hosts and executive produces the reality adventure competition series, which marks the second collaboration between NBCUniversal and the BBC following “The Traitors.”

Originating from a format in Belgium, “Destination X” drops contestants in an unknown location and challenges them to figure out their mystery location via clues on their blacked-out Destination X bus. The game also throws a couple misdirects in there to keep contestants guessing.

“At the end of each episode, contestants must guess where they are and the furthest from the actual location is sent packing,” according to the official logline. The first participant to reach Destination X is crowned the winner.

The cast for Paramount's Naked Gun reboot continues to grow. Danny Huston, perhaps best known for his villainous role in Yellowstone, is the latest actor to board the highly-anticipated comedy film.

According to Deadline, Huston has signed on to star alongside Liam Neeson, Pamela Anderson, Paul Walter Hauser, and Kevin Durand in the untitled Naked Gun reboot. At this time, Huston's role remains under wraps. So far, Paramount has only revealed who Neeson and Hauser will be playing, with Neeson stepping into the role of Detective Frank Drebin and Hauser cast as his partner Ed. However, it is understood that Durand who can be seen this summer as Proximus Caesar in Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes will be taking on one of the movie's villain roles.

He plays DJ, bartender, and bouncer while his only dancer separates men from their money. But soon, the celebrities arrive. Athletes from Michael Jordan to Shaquille O’Neal clamber to the club, DC The Brain Supreme mints an iconic hit record from the DJ booth, and Outkast tests songs by watching the girls dance.

Terrence O’Hara, who directed 85 episodes of the CBS dramas NCIS and NCIS: Los Angeles from 2003 until this year, died Dec. 5 at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles after a five-year battle with cancer, his family announced. He was 76.

A former actor who studied at the American Film Institute, O’Hara was a director for more than 30 years, also working on such other shows as The Blacklist, Smallville, Nikita, Lie to Me, Rosewood, Heroes, The Unit, Legends, Dollhouse, Grimm, Sons of Anarchy, The Shield, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, Jag, Angel, Magic City, The X-Files, Dark Angel, Touched by an Angel and Pacific Blue.

His 56th and final NCIS episode, “Birds of a Feather” — the show’s 19th-season finale — aired May 23; the last of his 29 NCIS: Los Angeles assignments, “Bonafides,” aired in March. He also helmed four episodes of NCIS: New Orleans in 2014-16.

But cancers a bitch, and his life was cut too short,” she shared. “He’s been quietly battling for the past 5 years, this whole time, directing, working, fighting, and smiling through it. Amanda Mackey, the casting director behind such films as Best Picture Oscar nominee The Fugitive and A League of Their Own and who earned an Emmy nom for The Normal Heart during a nearly four-decade career, has died. She was 70.

Her longtime friend and business partner Cathy Sandrich Gelfond told Deadline that Mackey died August 27 in her sleep of myelodysplastic syndrome, a form of blood cancer, at Calvary Hospital in Brooklyn.

“Amanda was a singular force — fiercely intelligent, impeccably stylish, wildly passionate about ideas, the state of the world and her work,” Sandrich Gelfond told Deadline. “She loved her daughters profoundly and was an unwaveringly steadfast friend and champion in a time when women weren’t as supportive to other women as they are now. She believed in me, lifted me up and gave me a career. She was the sister I never had and changed my life in countless ways.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan has joined the cast of Amazon’s The Boys for Season 4 as a recurring guest star. Details regarding the character he will play remain under wraps.

His work on the series will reunite Morgan with Supernatural creator Eric Kripke who serves as showrunner of The Boys. During his time on the CW series he portrayed John Winchester in a recurring capacity.

Kripke recently spoke about his attempts to secure Morgan’s participation in the new season, telling E! News, “Jeffrey Dean Morgan is a superfan of the show, so he and I are talking. We’re trying to figure out something for season four. Nothing finalized yet, but he and I are chatting and e-mailing and seeing it we can make it work with his busy schedule. Veteran Hollywood actor James Caan, who had countless memorable roles, has died.

He was 82.

The official Twitter account for the actor shared the sad news on Thursday.

“It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of Jimmy on the evening of July 6," the Tweet reads.

"The family appreciates the outpouring of love and heartfelt condolences and asks that you continue to respect their privacy during this difficult time.”

“Jimmy was one of the greatest,” his rep Matt DelPaino said today in a statement obtained by Deadline.

While the film’s plot is being kept under wraps, it is said to be a new take on the meta-human sci-fi genre. The coronavirus is continuing to spread throughout the world, which has found some people in mandatory quarantine. Two days after stepping down as programming president at Starz, Carmi Zlotnik has moved over to Apple with an exclusive producer deal.

Zlotnik, who had been with Starz for 10 years, will leave the pay-cable channel at the end of January. His deal with Apple begins next month.

While at Starz, Zlotnik oversaw the development and production of such series as “Power,” “Outlander,” “American Gods,” “Vida,” “The Girlfriend Experience,” “The White Queen,” “Black Sails,” “Magic City” and “Spartacus,” as well as upcoming series like “High Town,” “Power Book II: Ghost.”

Zlotnik’s departure from Starz came nearly a year after Chris Albrecht left as CEO of the network.
