Lewis Tan reflects on his first Mortal Kombat role before he joined the 2021 big-screen adaptation, sharing a new photo from the unreleased web series Mortal Kombat X: Generations. The actor starred in the Warner Bros. adaptation of the popular fighting game franchise as the original character Cole Young, an Mma fighter and descendant of the ninja who would become Scorpion. Having been dragged into the inter-realm tournament and survived the battle, Cole is left to gather new allies, heading to Hollywood to recruit Johnny Cage in the upcoming Mortal Kombat 2 .
After many requests, Tan shares photos from the unreleased Mortal Kombat X: Generations, a web series that would presumably later be compiled as a film for a home release. Michelle Yeoh is back! Not that she went anywhere, to paraphrase the Nicolas Cage comedy "The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent." Still, we're undeniably in the midst of a renaissance (a Yeohnaissance?) for the Oscar-winning Malaysian superstar, one that arguably started with her role as the steely matriarch of the uber-wealthy Young family in 2018's "Crazy Rich Asians." Her latest project, "The Brothers Sun," once again sees Yeoh playing the determined head of a clan, this time portraying Eileen Sun, the wife of the recently assassinated head of a powerful Taiwanese triad.
The Sun family's connections to organized crime come as a real shock to Eileen's youngest son Bruce (Sam Song Li), who's been living a quiet life with his mother in Los Angeles when his older brother, Charles (Justin Chien), shows up to break the news ... and with a whole lot of dangerous people who want them dead on his tail.

Mortal Kombat movie franchise has stayed true to the popular video games and brought the flair of Hong Kong action movies to the big screen. The Karate Kid franchise has been a modern culture phenomenon, with its story of the master-student relationship resonating with audiences. The Ip Man franchise, led by Donnie Yen, has become the greatest martial arts movie franchise of all time, blending epic fight scenes with the life story of a martial arts master.
Both East and the West have produced long lists of martial arts movie franchises, some of which being significantly better than their contemporaries. Like any other genre, the storytelling of martial arts films can often be encapsulated very well in just one movie, as seen in Bruce Lee's Fist of Fury, the John Carpenter's '80s classic Big Trouble in Little China, or Iko Uwais' debut movie Merantau. However, the popularity...

Mortal Kombat is well-known for its bloody fatalities, and several film adaptations have presented fatalities to rival even those in the games. In the Mortal Kombat mythos, warriors from Earthrealm battle the forces of the Outworld to defend their world from being conquered. First debuting in the early '90s, Mortal Kombat proved so popular that it made the leap to the big screen with the 1995 Mortal Kombat movie, with numerous movie and television adaptations being produced since.
Not every Mortal Kombat movie has been heavy on fatalities, with the first two '90s Mortal Kombat films being PG-13. However, 21st-century adaptations of the game have dived headfirst into R-rated territory, especially in the famed fatalities that the franchise is known for. Many of Mortal Kombat's fatalities are instantly recognizable and often associated with specific characters who execute them. Both attributes that the web series Mortal Kombat: Legacy and...

Meanwhile, Jon Jashni, former president of Legendary Entertainment, and Jeff Ludwig, former vice president of scripted film and television production for Ritchie/Wigram Productions, have joined the drama as executive producer and producer, respectively. Casper Van Dien, who most action/sci-fi fans will know as Johnny Rico from the Starship Troopers franchise, is perhaps busier today than he's ever been. A quick glance at IMDb reveals that the actor has 10 credits to his name, and counting, in 2020 alone. Next up for Dien is The 2nd, a new action/thriller that sees him taking on the bad guy role against Ryan Phillippe.
The 2nd, directed by Brian Skiba, centers on secret-service agent Vic Davis (Ryan Phillippe) who is on his way to pick up his estranged son, Shawn (Jack Griffo), from college. He soon finds himself in the middle of a high-stakes terrorist operation. The daughter of a Supreme Court Justice is the target and a well-armed faction will stop at nothing to kidnap her. Vic discovers that nobody is coming to their rescue. So, he must use his set of skills to save her...

It's no secret that Mortal Kombat, the 1995 Paul W.S. Anderson film adaptation of the popular, controversial fighting video game, is the greatest film ever made, for many, many reasons we simply do not have the time to get into right now. Since then, we've seen other filmed adaptations of the property succeed (Mortal Kombat: Legacy) and fail (literally every other filmed adaptation of Mortal Kombat). Now, before we get the long-promised new live-action feature film, we'll get another one to satiate our appetite in 2020. Via The Hollywood Reporter, Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion'…...

Countless iterations of the video game have been released across various systems from Super Nintendo to Gamecube to Playstation. But its 1995 movie adaptation, while making for horrifying nostalgia, did not do the source material justice.

The Mortal Kombat video game series may have managed to remain relevant since 1992, selling over 35 million units and generating billions in revenue in the process, but the franchise has always proven difficult to get right on the big screen. 1995’s Mortal Kombat is arguably best-known for being a cheesy cult favorite, while sequel Annihilation just isn’t a very good movie at all.
The franchise has since gone on to spend over 20 years stuck in development hell as the rights bounced around between studios, despite Mortal Kombat: Rebirth and Mortal Kombat: Legacy creator Kevin Tancharoen coming agonizingly close to directing the reboot a few years back, before delays eventually saw him quit the project in 2013.

Mortal Kombat has surprising appeal, for a story that boils down to fantasy people bloodying each other up repeatedly. It panders to the obvious demographic, but it also has a pretty interesting mythology. The original film, back in 1995, mainly worked because of its time. Translating such a video game franchise actually fit with campy 90’s cheese. But since Mortal Kombat: Legacy, it’s been made clear that the Mortal Kombat universe can also entertain a different tone. Now that a studio reboot finally has some traction, let’s break down some necessary things it will need to be successful, as well as some horrendous mistakes that Mortal Kombat: Annihilation proved this franchise should seriously avoid.

Hulu's PEN15 is making headlines already for its quirky, bluntly honest take on the indignities of middle school. Although the two lead characters, Maya and Anna, are portrayed by adult women (creators Maya Erskine and Anna Konkle), the rest of the teen and tween-aged cast is played by actual young actors. Among the potential breakout stars is Dallas Liu, who's getting plenty of attention but probably doesn't quite look familiar to most viewers.
Liu portrays Shuji Ishii-Peters, Maya's older brother. The young actor made his film debut in the 2010 Japanese-American film Tekken. Based on a video game, the martial arts action movie follows a young fighter, Jin Kazama, as he enters a fighting tournament in hopes of avenging his late mother and getting revenge on his father and grandfather. Liu played Jin as an 11-year-old boy in some scenes.

Exclusive: WarnerMedia-owned Machinima is expected to become part of Otter Media early next year, as At&T looks to align its related digital assets, sources tell Deadline.
Machinima will retain its brand and online presence, sources say, though Otter will steer business operations and look to apply its expertise in content delivery and audience targeting to grow the gamer lifestyle brand.
Negotiations have been going on for months and some elements have yet to formalized, sources say. Machinima’s content marketing operations may well become integrated with Fullscreen, a one-time multi-channel network that has evolved into an influencer marketing and branded-content agency.
It is unclear how the combination will impact Machinima employees.

As a whole video games based on comic book franchises have met with more critical success than games based on cinematic franchises. Part of the reasoning behind this is that comic books have a natural affinity with the transition to gaming: bold characters, super powers that can empower the player, the rich environments, and story lines that can be drawn on. All these things can help bring exciting and fun gameplay experiences.
Comic book narratives are something I love; the integration between written narrative and illustrative depth has always fascinated me. Every time a video game based on a comic book franchise appears, I buy it. Sometimes I've been stung by that, but most times I have a satisfying and immersive gaming experience.
So here are a few of my favourite games in this genre.

There was a smoky, satanic quality to the voice that urged you to “finish him” after crushing an opponent in Mortal Kombat; it was easy to imagine it echoing from beneath Shao Kahn’s skull mask as he watched you battle from his gilded throne. If that’s an image you’d like to maintain, it might be best to skip the…

For the first time since 1995, we might have a video game movie that lives up to Mortal Kombat’s greatness. How do we know? Because The Rock, duh.
In 1986 Bally Midway introduced us to an arcade game where players take control of gigantic monsters destroying cities, all while trying to survive against military forces. You would win each round by completely destroying the city. Sounds like the perfect basis for an action adventure film. But who is big enough to star in such a monstrous film?
Well no other than The Rock. In the abundance of films that he, or one of his clones, have been filming lately Rampage is set to be the next video game project to attempt to accepted by audiences. Rock plays Davis Okoye, a primatologist who is the head of an anti-poaching unit. He is accompanied by his best friend, an albino silver back named George.

So it looks like all my childhood "what ifs" are coming to fruition, as Injustice 2 adds more and more characters to its already impressive roster (which includes Hellboy and Mortal Kombat's Sub-Zero). The new Fighter Pack 3 Dlc will add Enchantress, Ray Palmer, and all four Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles! Cowabunga! I'm always excited about new Injustice 2 characters, as not only is the... After a subpar outing last week, Saturday Night Live produced what might have been its best episode of Season 43 this time around. A lot of that had to do with host Tiffany Haddish, who brought energy and excitement to each sketch. Even when the material wasn't terribly strong (especially post-"Weekend Update"), Haddish did her damnedest to keep things afloat.
Still, the hits far outweighed the misses this week. It's hard not to include sketches that involved surprise cameos from former cast members (Jason Sudeikis reprising his Joe Biden impression...

The Girls Trip breakout star returned to NBC on Saturday (What? You already forgot about my beloved Carmichael Show?) and brought with her an infectious energy that was felt throughout the broadcast. She probably gained quite a few fans with her humble, apolitical monologue, which spoke about what SNL meant to her while growing up in the foster care system. "In Space, No One Can Hear You Scream!" But can they hear Jason smash computer generated teenagers zipped up in virtual sleeping bags into each other? Can they hear the Leprechaun turn on his green lightsaber? What about Pinhead? Hear him? Everybody loves critically acclaimed sci-fi/horror mash-up fare like Alien, a stone cold cinema classic. But let's not overlook those guilty pleasure slasher franchises, either. What else can we do with the Leprechaun? I know! Leprechaun in Space! Today, we look at 10 times horror movies went to space.
Alien (1979)
First and foremost we must acknowledge Alien, the 1979 sci-fi horror film directed by Ridley Scott. Dan O'Bannon was ready to throw in the towel after a grueling preproduction on a proposed Dune movie went nowhere. As a last ditch effort, he came up with a story called Star Beast, together with Ronald Shusett, who later returned for 2004's Alien vs. Predator.

Fans of predecessor Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor will have had an anxious three-year wait for Middle-earth: Shadow of War. But was the latest addition to the The Lord of the Rings franchise worth this wait? For fans of the previous game, SoW will undoubtedly deliver on more of the same. The real question though is whether SoW has, as a stand-alone game, offered up something fresh.
For most, one of the most atmospheric aspects of SoW will be its delicious, dark tone which (alongside its R-rated status) clearly separates it from the family-friendly reputation developed for the Tlotr franchise in cinemas. The fighting is brutal and gory with options to dispose of your enemies in varying degrees of violence. Underlying themes, most notably those of slavery and human greed, provoke some troubling questions (more on this later).

While I'm not a big fan of the Injustice games' storyline, I love the game itself immensely. It's a fun and intuitive fighting game, with great controls and even better renderings of classic DC heroes (where I can just ignore the plot). It also helps that it plays a lot like Mortal Kombat X, which was one of the best in its respective series. And since both game series are made by the same... Read More...

Erlingur Thoroddsen‘s Rift is an icy “cabin in the hills” thriller worth every scenic gawk; Iceland’s genuine production value featured to a remarkable degree (looming mountain regions to jagged lava fields). Landscapes like a Bob Ross painting and tension like a Justin Benson/Aaron Moorhead production might squeeze. It’s such prime location setting, which Thoroddsen skillfully uses to subtlety wall-in characters and inspire tone-snapping hope. This sets the stage for personal rumination in the most idyllic of lands, where evil may present itself as a wolf of our own conjuring – living, not even hiding, in plain sight.
Thoroddsen boils a complicated relationship between two men – Einar (Sigurður Þór Óskarsson) and Gunnar (Björn Stefánsson) – down to psychological fears. Uncertainty. Life. It’s their status as ex-lovers that unites the two men once again, after Einar leaves Gunnar a vague – and cryptic – voicemail. Gunnar, unable to decipher the message’s intent,...

Two new characters are about to debut in Injustice 2. While they're from two completely different worlds, they share one thing in common. Lightning.
Injustice 2 is gearing up for a new wave of heroes, after the release of Starfire, Black Manta, and Red Hood. The latest additions feature two heroes with an affinity for using lightning. You already knew about Mortal Kombat's Raiden, but now you'll get to see Black Lightning in action too!
Fear not Mortal Kombat fans, Raiden is indeed a haus. The gameplay trailer proves that one of the strongest characters in the Mortal Kombat franchise could easily become the strongest in Injustice 2, as well. His combos mixed with that incredible cinematic super will likely draw a lot of gamers his way. Meanwhile, I would've liked to have seen more from Black Lightning, but what I did see looks cool enough.

Three new characters are joining the fight in Injustice 2! Two, you might've already guessed but there's one we never saw coming! See the full reveal below!
Warner Bros. Interactive has done a nice job of consistently updating Injustice 2 with new brand-new characters. Not long ago, they added Red Hood, Sub-Zero, and the Op Starfire. Now, they're planning to add 3 more characters to the fight. From their silhouettes you might've already guessed Black Manta and Raiden, but you'd have to have the greensight to be have divined that none other than Hellboy would be part of Injustice 2, this September!
While completely unexpected, Hellboy is a welcome addition to the fighting game franchise. He's been a beloved character in Dark Horse Comics, for some time now, even before the two Ron Pearlman movies. With his amusing humor and, no doubt, hard-hitting moveset, it'll be no surprise if he's one of the more frequently used new characters.
