Disney as a studio has had many ups and downs in the past two years, and this has surprisingly included some of its live-action remakes of its animated classics. This is now being seen with the less-than-enthusiastic response to the upcoming remake of Snow White, which was already mired in controversy. While this film might end up being a box office disappointment, another live-action remake from the company is off to a much better start.
The reaction to the first trailer for the Lilo & Stitchremake was very positive, with even those jaded by these live-action remakes being mostly enthused by what they saw. Disney has been remaking many of its animated classics over the past decade. The Jungle Book and The Lion King got live-action adaptations, with the latter even getting a prequel centered on Mufasa.
Following this trend, another beloved animated film is getting a live-action remake: Lilo & Stitch. The original 2002 film followed a young Hawaiian girl named Lilo Pelekai, and her older sister, Nani, adopting an alien. They thought it was a dog, not realizing it was a fugitive that the United Galactic Federation was hunting. The first full-length trailer has finally dropped, and here is what fans can expect from the new movie.

Lilo & Stitch marks a potential turning point in Disney’s rocky journey with live-action adaptations. Past remakes like Mulan, The Little Mermaid, and the upcoming Snow White have all faced notable criticism, but Lilo & Stitch appears to be dodging those pitfalls with the agility of Stitch himself. Mulan struggled due to its pandemic release, missing the theatrical experience and instead debuting as a rental exclusive on Disney+. Then, The Little Mermaid sparked controversy over Halle Bailey’s casting as Ariel. Despite her clear talent, online discussions became contentious, with criticism fixating on her race. Meanwhile, Snow White is already facing scrutiny before its release. Trailers have been heavily criticized on YouTube, with backlash focused on Rachel Zegler’s casting and her outspoken political commentary. In contrast, Lilo & Stitch is being commended for its authentic casting choices. Both Lilo and her sister Nani are portrayed by Hawaiian actresses, a move praised for respecting cultural authenticity.

Here’s What We Know About Snow White’s Scaled-Back Premiere ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
Disney’s highly anticipated live-action Snow White has hit another setback, with its Hollywood premiere undergoing noticeable changes. The star-studded screening at the El Capitan Theatre this Saturday will see leading actresses Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot gracing the event.
However, according to Page Six, the usual bustling media presence on the red carpet will be notably absent, and only photographers and a house crew will be allowed. A pre-party is also planned, though details remain under wraps.
Backlash Over Comments & Casting
This adjustment follows a series of controversies surrounding the film’s lead stars. Zegler, who plays Snow White, faced criticism when her casting was announced in 2021, largely because she’s Latina. Adding to the backlash, her comments about the original 1937 animated film being “dated” sparked further debate.

The history of Lilo & Stitch is so incredible that it is difficult to process how the movie ever got made in the first place. At a time of intense infighting at Disney and with little money and time to finish the movie, Christopher Sanders and Dean DeBlois delivered an animated film that, to date, remains one of the most beloved Disney movies of all time.

Even in its conception, Lilo & Stitch stands out due to its absurdly fantastic yet extraordinary storyline. It is no wonder that with the proper tools, even a far-fetched sci-fi plot with a six-limbed demonic agent of chaos can be made into one of the most heartwarming Disney movies in pop culture history.

The live-action “Lilo and Stitch” trailer was released today, and it looks so good! I was concerned about how it would look in live-action, but going by the trailer, there is nothing to worry about.
Take a look!
The casting for Lilo (Maia Kealoha), Nani (Sydney Agudong), and David (Kaipo Dudoit) is spot on. Chris Sanders, who originally voiced Stitch, is the voice of Stitch.
They are going to give Jumba (Zach Galifianakis) and Pleakley (Billy Magnussen) human disguises, which we figured they would. But we see Pleakley as CGI, too, and he looks spot on!
The CGI for this film is top-notch, and Lilo is adorable!
Oh, and Cobra Bubbles (Courtney B. Vance) is in the film. There were rumors that he would be changed, but they did not do that.
Unlike the reaction to “Snow White” the comments are mostly positive!

Disney just released the trailer for its next live-action remake, Lilo and Stitch. Although there are many (this writer included) who would say it's far too recent of a film to get a remake. However, the new footage does have a few perks.
There's no denying that Stitch himself has a very healthy fanbase. Next to Mickey Mouse and Winnie the Pooh, he's probably one of Disney's most marketable characters. But will he be enough to bring in the box office bucks?
Lilo and Stitch: Fresh but familiar
Let's get the obvious out of the way, it looks great. The footage shown in the video above looks like what a live-action variant of this sci-fi classic should. In fact, the argument could be made that Disney should have made this a live-action film first. It's honestly one of the best first impressions the studio has given us in a long time.

Updated, March 12: Disney’s live-action Lilo & Stitch approaches, with chaos stemming from the blue creature and the young Hawaiian girl starting in theaters Memorial Day weekend.
“We have apprehended a dangerous experiment,” a commanding voice starts off the official trailer for the film. “Where is he?”
Subordinates answering to their leader in the command center of a spaceship report that “he escaped” after he found the police cruisers and “uh, took the red one.”
As Stitch cackles in the machine and enters the Earth’s atmosphere, Maia Kealoha’s Lilo spots his space ship from her home, thinking it’s a shooting star.
“I wish for a friend,” she says as the green glowing projectile hurtles toward the beaches of Hawaii, cutting to a sequence of Lilo getting pushed down during a hula lesson. “Like a best friend.”

Disney’s first feature-length color animated movie, “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs,” opened in Technicolor in 1937, and the company came full circle when Technicolor’s flagship visual effects company Mpc was called upon to create effects on Disney’s upcoming live-action adaptation of the classic. But the timing now marks the sad end of Technicolor, which was founded in 1915 and went on to become one of Hollywood’s most recognizable brands, working on classic films such as “The Wizard of Oz” and “Gone with the Wind.”
On Friday, Feb. 21, Technicolor began alerting customers and employees that it was facing “severe financial challenges.” This included sending U.S. employees a Warn notice as required by law for large companies that anticipate closings and mass layoffs. Technicolor’s leadership worked through the weekend to find a solution, but by Monday CEO Caroline Parot admitted in a company memo to an “inability...

Marvel Rivals players can transform their favorite heroes into their favorite characters, icons, and even famous singers thanks to a few nifty mods. While mods are nothing new to the title, more and more hero customization options have been popping up by the day, allowing players to choose from a plethora of anime protagonists, legendary pop singers, and more.
The three mods found around a week ago now are all created by different modders. The Stitch mod for Rocket was created by user Hallow, the Ariana Grande mod for Luna Snow was made by Yumii, and the iconic and horrifying Art the Clown mod for Wolverine was created by VinnyHaw. While these are not the only mods to change the appearance of heroes in Marvel Rivals, these are newer ones that players may not have seen yet.

The live-action Lilo & Stitch remake has faced numerous production delays due to ongoing strikes in the film industry, potentially impacting its release. Controversy surrounding the casting choices has further complicated the release of the live-action Lilo & Stitch. Disney may choose to either delay the film or opt for a streaming release on Disney+, considering the uncertainty surrounding its release date and the changing landscape of box office returns for live-action adaptations.
The live-action Lilo & Stitch remake will re-tell the 2002 animated Disney movie of the same name, but because of delays surrounding the movie is unclear what the film's release will look like. What sets Lilo & Stitch apart from other Disney films is that it is an original story from the studio and not an adaptation of another story or fairy tale. In Lilo & Stitch, an alien crash-lands on Earth in Hawaii where he is mistaken for a stray dog.

According to CNBC, Disney has made over $7 billion dollars off of their remakes since 2010. These remakes all began with Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland and that was followed by Maleficent, Cinderella, The Jungle Book, Oz The Great and Powerful, Beauty and the Beast, Alice Through the Looking Glass, Dumbo, Aladdin, and most recently, The Lion King.

Disney's Mulan Remake Gets Jason Scott Lee as the Villain
Disney's live-action Mulan has just added another villain, Jason Scott Lee, who is of Chinese and Hawaiian descent. He joins actor Gong Li, who was previously cast as one of the antagonists in the upcoming reimagining of the Disney animated classic. This offers further proof that the Mouse House is putting their money where their mouth is on this one, in terms of not whitewashing it.
Jason Scott Lee is set to portray a warrior by the name of Bori Khan. He's described as a leader dead set on avenging his father's death. Beyond that, his specific motivations and who exactly he wants to get revenge on remain a mystery.
This is an interesting bit of casting in the sense that Jason Scott Lee actually has a pre-established history with Disney. He portrayed Mowgli in his younger years in the studios' 1994 live-action version of The Jungle Book. He was...

He was...

Ajai's Stitch is another surreal entry into the horror genre. This title stars Edward Furlong and Shawna Waldron. Together, these two play a couple who head onto a healing retreat, after the death of their young daughter. Then, Marsden (Furlong) and Serafina (Waldron) find themselves trapped in a bizarre landscape by a maniacal shaman as seen in the film's first trailer. Horror fans can view the clip inside. The reel uses CGI effects to create a state of unreality, which the characters struggle against. Supernatural forces are at work in this early trailer for Stitch. Director/writer: Ajai. Cast: Edward Furlong, Shirly Brener, Shawna Waldron, Laurence Mason, Diane Salinger, Tiffany Martin, and Douglas Tait.
