The fun thing about being a time traveler is that you can often procrastinate on important tasks for as long as you'd like. This was part of the appeal for Amy (Karen Gillan) at the start of "Doctor Who" season 5; she was having second thoughts about marrying Rory the next day, so the Doctor's promise that she could travel through space and time for as long as she wants beforehand seemed like a great deal.

The story of the courageous leader of the Pride Lands, Mufasa, has finally arrived and it’s roared up a star-studded cast.

Written by Jeff Nathanson (“Young Woman and the Seas”) and directed by Barry Jenkins (“Moonlight”) comes the origin story of Mufasa and his brother Taka, who fans eventually know better as Scar. The film is centered on the two lions, who befriend one another as cubs from very different backgrounds. In an effort to evade a deadly foe, the two work together in a cross-country adventure through which they meet young lioness Sarabi, wise mandrill Rafiki and bossy hornbill Zazu.

Crooked House has often been cited as one of her favorite books, with Christie stating that she "found the study of a certain family interesting to explore." Director Giles Paquet-Brenners 2017 film adaptation was overshadowed when it was first released at the same time as Kenneth Branaghs bigger and flashier adaptation of Murder on the Orient Express. Now available on Prime Video, 2017's Crooked House is getting a second chance to receive the attention it deserves. For one thing, it boasts brilliant performances from Glenn Close and Gillian Anderson at the top of a stellar cast of talented, mostly British, character actors.

The search for missing actor Julian Sands is over. Back in January, Sands had ventured to the Mt. Baldy area in Southern California for a solo hike, as he was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed spending time alone in the area. When he failed to return home on Jan. 13, his family reported him missing. Cops were able to locate his vehicle, but over the next five months, no trace of the Warlock star was found, despite extensive searches.

The new trailer for the upcoming A Haunting in Venice dropped and showcases a Poirot film unlike any made before. From the eerie horror atmosphere to the mask-wearing ghost villain to the dark tone and soundtrack, this trailer indicates a genre shift away from a cozy Agatha Christie mystery straight into supernatural horror. While, of course, horror is always intriguing, it seems like an odd fit for Hercule Poirot, Christie's Belgian gentleman detective. Don’t know if you’ve heard but Netflix is doing pretty well with their local language releases. Now, with its list of new releases for September 2021, Netflix is leading with one of its biggest international hits.

Season 5 of the worldwide smash Money Heist is set to premiere its first half on Sept. 3. This Spanish series (called La Casa de Papel in its native tongue) about a group of geographically-named thieves found new life on Netflix to become a global phenomenon. Other international series of note this month include Sex Education and Jaguar.

Netflix’s roster of originals in September 2021 is pretty packed even beyond that. The final season of Lucifer premieres on Sept. 10. That will be followed by He-Man and the Masters of the Universe on Sept. 16 (not to be confused with Masters of the Universe: Revelation) and Mike Flanagan’s next horror series, Midnight Mass, on Sept. 24.

Exclusive: Gillian Anderson, who can be seen on Netflix’s The Crown as Margaret Thatcher, has signed with UTA.

The Hollywood talent agency has signed the actress, who broke through in Fox’s The X-Files, in all areas. Deadline understands that Anderson had been without a U.S. agent but over the course of her career has been represented by WME and CAA.

It is a hot signing for UTA with Anderson scoring plaudits for her role in the British royal drama. She stars as the former Prime Minister alongside Olivia Colman and Helena Bonham-Carter in the fourth season of the show, which was created by Peter Morgan.

While most of the toys in the Toy Story universe have been harmless, Toy Story 4 is returning to its Big Baby days with a sinister vintage doll named Gabby Gabby, voiced by none other than Christina Hendricks.

Hendricks began her career as a model for well over a decade. Before her big break, you may have recognized her on shows such as ER, Firefly, and Kevin Hill. But over the years, Hendricks's standout role definitely has been that of Joan Holloway on Mad Men. Her part as the formidable and omniscient '60s office manager on the AMC series garnered her a total of six Emmy nominations during her run between 2007 and 2015. Of course, her momentum on the small screen didn't end with Mad Men. Hendricks also recently appeared as Olivia Rogers on Amazon's The Romanoffs and currently stars as suburban mom-turned-criminal Beth Boland on NBC's Good Girls.

Having decided to jettison reality series “Big Brother,” Britain’s Channel 5 is pushing deeper into the U.K. drama business, with a slate of new scripted titles including a prison drama, a crime thriller and a murder mystery. The free-to-air network has traditionally concentrated on unscripted and entertainment, complemented by a lineup of acquired drama, much of it hailing from from the U.S.

Channel 5 has now made its biggest move into scripted under the ownership of Viacom, which bought the free-to-air broadcaster in 2014. It includes a three-year deal with production and distribution group Kew Media, which will sell several of the new shows internationally.

The drama slate is headed by “Clink,” a female prison drama aimed at the sought-after young adult audience. It will play on Channel 5’s 5Star channel. British indie La Productions is making the 10-parter, which will bow in 2019.

Exclusive: The King’s Speech and Wolf Hall financier Hindsight Media (previously known as Prescience) has splashed on rights to sci-fi movie spec Anima, I can reveal. The mid-six-figure deal is the UK outfit’s biggest single development acquisition to date. While plot details are being kept under wraps I understand the thriller follows a prisoner who is sentenced to solitary confinement on a remote asteroid.

Swedish directing duo Fredrik Akerstrom and Markus Kryler (pictured), known for directing hit video game Battlefield 1 are attached to direct the script from Steve Isles (The Possession Of David O’Reilly). Project is being pitched as in the vein of Moon and Ex Machina.

Hindsight Media CEO James Swarbrick (The Last Days On Mars) will produce alongside Water & Power Production’s Tom Miller (Aaaaaaaah!) as well as Jon Kanak (Slumber), who reps both the writer and the directors. The team is eying a fall production start.

Christina Hendricks of Mad Men fame is set to star in Domino, a new thriller from director Brian De Palma (that's nothing to do with the Tony Scott movie of the same name). According to The Wrap, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau from Game of Thrones will co-star in the film.

The pair will play Danish cops who are on the hunt for the person who murdered Coster-Waldau's partner. What they don't know is that their chief suspect is an American CIA agent in pursuit of an Isis terror cell.

The movie does not have a distributor yet but will head to the film market at this year's Cannes Film Festival in search of backing.

Hindsight and Head Gear are teaming on mezzannine fund.

UK financiers Hindsight and Head Gear are launching a mezzanine fund for film and TV projects in the UK and Us markets.

The two parties expect to conclude first financing deals for the fund – branded H2 – after Berlin.

H2 will offer producers tactical short terms loans and permanent mezzanine finance. Agreement to launch it follows discussions over recent months.

The first £5m for H2 is committed from existing Hindsight - formerly Prescience - and Head Gear funds and investors. The duo’s expectation is that this will increase to a £25m-30m level by the end of the first year’s trading.

The financiers are working with a third party fund raiser in a bid to bring in new sources of investment for H2.

UK financier Prescience, backers of The King’s Speech and TV series Wolf Hall, is to be rebranded as Hindsight under the management of new CEO James Swarbrick, who takes over the role from company co-founder Tim Smith.

As part of the restructure Smith will become chairman and media investor John Story, a former Entertainment One shareholder, joins the board as a non-executive director.

Swarbrick previously served as commercial director at the Prescience group of companies, whose co-founder Paul Brett and chairman Peter Nichols exited last year.

A number of additional appointments are expected during Q1.

Two new funds are being launched by the group. The first is Eis fund Hindsight Media, marketing via Enterprise Investment Partners, which is focusing on film, television and games.

While Jake Kasdan had moderate success with last year’s Bad Teacher — a couple of folks even said it was funny, too — he’s bounced around quite a bit in the time since. In this mere, not-so-long span, there have been offers for Sex Tape, Family Getaway, an untitled comedy, and the Shawn Levy-produced Man Made. That’s plenty (actually, too much) for anybody, but even David O. Russell can give us some hint as to what’s coming next.

Add one to the pile, since Variety reports that Kasdan and Universal are planning to join forces on an espionage comedy, My Spy, a piece said to be in the vein of ’80s classics such as Weird Science and Risky Business. Michael Diliberti (30 Minutes or Less) and Jeremy Slater wrote the original script for CBS Films, but, with Universal’s pending acquisition, Kasdan and his brother, Jon, will give the thing another polish.

The story is set against the backdrop of three generations of an eccentric family that lives together in a large house. When the multi-millionaire patriarch is found murdered, it seems that everyone has reasons to kill him.
