The Darkness have announced their eighth studio album, Dreams on Toast, arriving in March 2025 via Cooking Vinyl. The lead single “The Longest Kiss” is out now.
The three-minute nugget is a love letter to ’70s pop rock a la Queen, Electric Light Orchestra, and Wings. Frontman Justin Hawkins puts the full range of his voice to use on the melodic number, which features prominent piano and stylish guitar licks.
“Misty Orchards! That’s not my porn name, that’s the kind of scenery that I love,” remarked Hawkins of the track in the album press release. “I awakened to such a vista in the delightful Scottish highland town of Nairn on the morning that inspiration for ‘The Longest Kiss’ lyric struck. I was bleary eyed and locked in an unending embrace with my (mid)life partner. Weird that I can still sing, but that’s a testament to the resilience of humans,...

The original BioShock is still playable, but could benefit from a remake. LinkedIn user Brett Shupe hints at an "upcoming announced remake" at 2K. BioShock 4 is also in development.
As the BioShock community waits with bated breath for some kind of announcement regarding the fourth mainline game in the series, fans of the original title may be in luck. Despite releasing in 2007, the original BioShock is still very playable by today's standards even if some aspects haven't stood the test of time. The premise, world-building, and writing remain excellent but technical issues like janky animations and stilted combat often leave players wondering if Irrational Games' monolithic shooter wouldn't benefit from some kind of remake in a similar vein to Dead Space or Resident Evil 2.

Kevin Bacon has been in a good number of horror films over the decades, and he has admitted that he’s drawn to working in the genre because he’s a horror fan himself. Now it has been revealed that he and his wife Kyra Sedgwick are such big fans of the genre that they’re planning to co-direct and star in a horror film – and they’ve cast their daughter Sosie Bacon, who starred in the horror hit Smile, as a co-star!
Variety caught up with Sedgwick to interview her about her role in the Off Broadway play All of Me, and along the way they mentioned that she’s currently developing “a horror film she would star in with Bacon and their adult daughter, Sosie. The couple wants to co-direct the film, though the Directors Guild has other ideas.“
Sedgwick told them, “It’s very hard to get dual directing credit.

As film-making technology advances, movies are capable of more now than ever before. Modern horror films are crawling with over-the-top gore and unbelievable deaths that are often brought to life through CGI. The horror genre, however, has always been a shining example of what movie magic is truly capable of. Even before all the technological advancements of today, horror looked realistic, gritty, and hard to swallow. That's thanks to special FX makeup, prosthetics, and other practical effects that go into bringing terrifying moments to life.
Today, there's a large divide between the use of CGI and practical effects. It's hard to argue that some films wouldn't be the same without the use of CGI. It's hard to imagine any of the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies without CGI, for example. That said, practical effects are still a surefire way to make sure something looks as realistic as possible. Many professionals still...

When an estimated 1,000 international TV buyers descend on Los Angeles for the annual TV event known as the LA Screenings, they will see a contracted market still recovering from the twin Hollywood strikes of last year and, to a somewhat lesser extent, the pandemic.
It kicks off with the LA Screenings Independents, held May 15-17 for smaller studios and distributors at the Fairmont Century Plaza Hotel, which are then followed by screenings at the major studios’ respective lots across May 18-22 where they present their latest shows. They may also host a variety of events for their clients during those days, which may include cocktail receptions and luncheons or dinners with talent and executives.
While stalled projects ramped up as soon as the strikes ended, some delays were inevitable. “A couple of months ago I was wondering if we were going to be entertaining [buyers],” says Lisa Kramer, president, International Content Licensing,...

Bernard Hill, the actor whose memorable tones and rugged visage brought to life a variety of fantastic performances, has died. He was 79.
Born in Manchester in 1944, Hill quickly gravitated towards stage work before taking the chance to make the jump to film and TV. Still, he found one of the first parts that would define his career in Alan Bleasdale's The Black Stuff, a one-off TV play in 1980 that the writer would expand into classic comedy drama Boys From The Blackstuff. Fox spirits in anime, such as kitsune, exhibit intelligence, cunning, and unique powers, making them formidable and intriguing characters. Popular anime featuring fox spirits include Yu Yu Hakusho, Digimon Tamers, and Inuyasha, each showcasing varied strengths and personalities. Mythology-inspired fox characters like Kurama, Renamon, and Shippo show adaptability, ferocity, and loyalty, offering valuable lessons in strategy and power.
The best fox spirits in anime are often some of the most popular characters in the show. Fox spirits such as kitsune (sometimes also known as youko) are prevalent figures throughout Japanese mythology. Naturally, they often pop up in film, literature, and, of course, anime as well.
True to their mythological counterparts, fox spirits are intensely powerful and often quite long-lived. They're playful at best and actively petty and malicious at worst, preferring trickery to destruction even when quite capable of the latter. The Winchesters' high moral code and heroics in saving humanity are overshadowed by their villainous decisions, such as Sam trusting Ruby and releasing Lucifer. Dean's decision to kill Death to save Sam leads to disastrous consequences, unleashing The Darkness onto the world. Despite preaching the importance of family, the Winchesters cruelly forget about their half-brother Adam and ignore his plight, tarnishing their reputation as morally upstanding individuals.
While the Winchesters saved the world countless times over the course of Supernatural, and maintained a mostly high moral code, the brothers weren't completely free of sin, and in fact, many of their decisions make them just as villainous as the demons they fight. One of Kevin Bacon’s earliest roles came in the 1980 slasher classic Friday the 13th, and he has enjoyed returning to the horror genre now and then ever since. A few years ago, he teamed up with Blumhouse Television to try to get a television series follow-up to the creature feature Tremors going at Syfy. That didn’t work out, but now Bacon and Blumhouse Television are joining forces again for a horror action series called The Bondsman!
Deadline reports that The Bondsman is set up at Amazon’s Prime Video. Bacon will be taking on the role of Hub Halloran, a backwoods bounty hunter who comes back from the dead with an unexpected second chance at life, and love, and a nearly-forgotten musical career — only to find that his old job now has a demonic new twist.
The first season of the series is expected to consist of eight half-hour episodes.

It’s last call for a number of films and TV shows leaving Netflix in June. Director Frank Darabont’s underrated Stephen King adaptation “The Mist” exits on June 21, while the end of the month brings the exits of “Jerry Maguire,” “Puss in Boots,” “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days,” a pair of “Resident Evil” movies and Brad Pitt’s pretty-ok zombie actioner “World War Z.”
Also departing on June 30 is the first two seasons of “Chappelle’s Show.”
All-in-all, however, it’s not a robust list so rest easy knowing an exodus isn’t coming to Netflix. This month at least.
