Exclusive: A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder producer Moonage Pictures is on the sales block, Deadline has learned.

We understand that BBC Studios will retain a minority interest in the company it took a stake in in 2018 for the time being, although this could change depending on who comes in for Moonage. There is understood to be plenty of interest in Moonage and the sale has generated chatter in UK TV M&a and production circles. Moonage and BBC Studios declined comment.

Run by the former Peaky Blinders producing trio of Frith Tiplady, Matthew Read and Will Gould, Moonage has delivered a number of shows of late. The London-based prodco was behind the A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder adaptation for the BBC and Netflix starring Emma Myers, which is currently sitting pretty at the top of the streamer’s global top-10 most-watched list.

The BBC has unveiled its Christmas schedule featuring a wealth of pre-announced scripted content, a recording of the Peaky Blinders: The Redemption of Thomas Shelby live performance and a Rebecca Ferguson-narrated natural history doc about Scandinavia. The Peaky Blinders performance will be specially filmed at the Birmingham Hippodrome and air on BBC Four over Christmas. Sky is opening the door to the House Of Kardashian in a three-part documentary series from the makers of Netflix show Jimmy Savile: A British Horror Story.

72 Films, which also made Amazon’s All or Nothing: Arsenal, has secured access to Caitlyn Jenner and unseen archive footage from the world of the Kardashian-Jenners.

Katie Hindley, who directed Jimmy Savile: A British Horror Story, is directing the documentary. It will premiere later this fall.

Poppy Dixon, Director of Documentaries and Factual at Sky, said 72 Films is skilled in “breaking down the dynasties of our age” and House Of Kardashian would be a “really entertaining watch.”

Speaking at the Edinburgh TV Festival, Dixon admitted that she was “indifferent” about the Kardashians before being pitched the series, but recognized that the family was a window on power, race, and feminism.

“Game of Thrones” prequel “House of the Dragon” and medical comedy-drama “This Is Going to Hurt” walked away with three awards each at the BAFTA Television Craft Awards on Sunday.

This year’s ceremony, which salutes behind-the-scenes talent, was hosted by former “Bake Off” judge Mel Giedroyc.

HBO’s “House of the Dragon” won for make-up and hair design; sound in fiction and special, visual and graphic effects.

Elsewhere, BBC’s “This is Going to Hurt” won in three categories, with prizes going to first-time winner Adam Kay for best writer in drama (Kay adapted his best-selling memoir for the TV show); Selina MacArthur, also a first-time winner, for editing in fiction; and Nina Gold and Martin Ware for scripted casting.

Winning two awards was the BBC’s “The State Funeral of Hm Queen Elizabeth II” which won for sound in factual and director for multi-camera.

Fremantle’s revenues rose 21% to €2.3B ($2.44B) and profits were up 15% last year as the super-indie inches toward its target to hit €3B ($3.2B) turnover by 2025.

Significant investment – both organically and via acquisitions – is to come across all genres this year, according to owner Rtl Group, following a year in which Fremantle’s adjusted Ebitda increased by nearly 15% to €162M.

Fremantle’s growth helped German-headquartered Rtl’s turnover to rise by 8.8%, although overall adjusted Ebitda for the group fell 6%.

American Gods and Planet Sex producer Fremantle was set the ambitious revenue target last year and went on a major buying spree in 2022, acquiring the likes of Normal People producer Element Pictures, Jimmy Savile: A British Horror Story indie 72 Films and Italian producer Lux Vide. It also struck talent deals with big names including Angelina Jolie, All Quiet on the Western Front’s Edward Berger and, most recently, The Case Against Adnan Syed director Amy Berg.

Coogan plays the disgraced TV star in a new four-part BBC drama titled The Reckoning, which will dramatise Savile’s history of pedophila.

As part of the duty of care in place for the drama, which was written by Neil McKay and produced by Jeff Pope, the production invited numerous survivors to the set in an attempt to convince them of the responsibility they felt in ensuring the story was told sensitively.

One survivor, Sam Brown, has now revealed what it was like seeing Coogan in character as Savile. Brown was repeatedly abused by Savile as a child.

She told Deadline she knew she would be approached by Coogan after he had finished filming a scene in Cheshire, but was not prepared for the “powerful” reaction she’d have to seeing him.

With lightning-white hair, makeup, and in full costume, Coogan was unmistakably the image of Jimmy Savile, the BBC presenter who repeatedly abused Brown when she was just a child. Brown arrived at the encounter determined to face the specter of her late tormenter, but nothing could prepare her for the “powerful” jolt that shot through her body as Coogan approached.

“As he was walking towards me, in my head I was thinking, ‘No, go away.’ I kept thinking, ‘Go away.’ Seemingly this wasn’t kept in my head. I was saying all of this [out loud] and didn’t realize I was bloody saying it. I was so embarrassed,” she remembers.

Steve Coogan is taking on one of the U.K.’s most controversial 20th-century figures.

Despite backlash after the announcement of Coogan’s casting in BBC drama series “The Reckoning,” a true crime show about child predator Jimmy Savile, the network has confirmed the show will still be released in 2023. “The Reckoning” was announced in 2020, with filming taking place in 2021.

“We are currently in post-production for transmission later this year,” a spokesperson for the BBC told The Independent. “An exact date will be announced in due course.”

A source previously told The Sun that the network was shelving the series, as there was “fierce backlash” from Savile’s victims. Savile was a presenter of “Top of the Pops.” His decades-long pedophilia practices tied to his work with children and young people were uncovered in 2012, a year after his death at age 84.

Love Island’s “extraordinary success” drove ITV to commission its Big Brother reboot, according to content boss Kevin Lygo, who said duty of care is being considered for the upcoming reality show but “I don’t think we should stop allowing the public on TV.”

Lygo told the Edinburgh Television Festival that Love Island, which has now run for eight seasons, had “defied current logic” by regularly topping 3M viewers per night across its eight-week run for multiple seasons.

“More young people watch it than any other and we should all take joy in the fact that if you get the right show, they will watch,” he added.

Per Netflix’s newly released Top 10 data for April 4-10, “The series had 115.75M hours viewed on the English TV list, appearing in the Top 10 in 91 countries, making it the most viewed title for the third week in a row.
