Exclusive: Mario Bava’s cult crime movie Rabid Dogs is getting an English-Language remake from in-demand Hollywood scribes Samuel Franco and Evan Kilgore.

The film’s original producer Alfredo Leone is aboard as exec-producer.

Franco and Kilgore have acquired the remake rights to the 1974 feature which follows the bungled robbery of three violent criminals and the hostages they take – including a young woman, a middle-aged man, and his child – as they attempt to make a clean getaway from the police.

An adaptation of short story Man and Boy by Michael J. Carroll, Rabid Dogs was a departure for Bava from his colorful horror films. The film had a challenged journey to screen. Mid-shoot, producer Roberto Loyola declared bankruptcy, resulting in the-then incomplete film being shelved. The movie remained unseen for more than two decades, but has since been released in multiple home ent versions, with various scenes being partially re-shot,...

I’m absolutely guilty of complaining about the abundance of remakes, reboots and sequels and the lack of original content out there, but, admittedly, I’m also part of the problem. Sulkin’s character Dylan is shrouded in wealth and mystery – a Great Gatsby like figure, according to the 22-year-old actor. Beneath the veil of his affluence, Dylan’s hiding a profound lonliness for which no amount of money can compensate.

“As the movie goes on you really see who Dylan actually is and he’s not as cool and he’s not as popular as people think,” Sulkin told uInterview exclusively. “He’s actually quite dark and isolated, kind of a lone figure, which kind of proves that you can have as much money in the world, but if you don’t have friendship, you really have nothing and no community.”

A new clip from indie drama Affluenza features Transformers: Age of Extinction star Nicola Peltz as a New York socialite.

Affluenza stars Ben Rosenfield as a young photographer who finds himself wrapped up in the Long Island social scene when he moves in with his sultry socialite cousin (Peltz) during the financial crisis of 2008.

The Flash's Grant Gustin has a supporting role as an arrogant jock who doesn't take kindly to his girlfriend's wandering eye.

Director Kevin Asch developed the story for Affluenza and worked on the screenplay with Antonio Macia (Anne B Real).

The pair previously collaborated on the Jesse Eisenberg-starring religious drama Holy Rollers in 2010.

Affluenza opens today (July 11) in the Us. No UK release date has been set.

A bright cast spackles this uneven Nick Hornby adaptation about a quartet of suicidal strangers (Pierce Brosnan, Toni Collette, Aaron Paul, and Imogen Poots) who meet on a London rooftop one New Year’s Eve and quickly become a fractured family. With an ace troupe like that, there are affecting moments, to be sure. But the movie criminally wastes Sam Neill and Rosamund Pike in barely there supporting roles, and the picture has exactly two tones: grim and gooey. They do not coexist harmoniously. Many who hear about Affluenza may at first assume that the movie is a look inside the thoroughly depressing case of Ethan Couch, a Texas teen who drove drunk and caused a crash, killing four and injuring two. During his trial, a psychologist argued Couch was a victim of “affluenza,” as the product of rich parents who never set boundaries for him or taught him to understand the relationship between actions and consequences. The case made national headlines when the judge sentenced him to ten years of probation and therapy in a cushy rehab facility – a sentence that defied basic ideas of both logic and justice with its leniency.

Unfortunately, Affluenza does not explore that inflammatory case – however, its teenage subjects are certainly comparable to Couch. Set in pre-recession 2008 on privileged Long Island, the film follows an aspiring photographer named Fisher (Ben Rosenfield) who comes to stay with his upper-class relatives after his parents divorce.

Affluenza (n) - a psychological malaise supposedly affecting wealthy young people, symptoms of which include a lack of motivation, feelings of guilt, and a sense of isolation. While that doesn’t sound like a the most pressing disease, filmmaker Kevin Asch uses the condition to highlight a time in America where the rich got richer, markets crashed, and the only ones saved were those lucky enough to receive a golden parachute. There’s a sad truth to Affluenza, and Asch doesn’t shy away from its dirtiest parts.

Affluenza is defined as the guilt or lack of motivation experienced by people who have made or inherited large amounts of money. Affluenza’s Fisher (Ben Rosenfield) doesn’t suffer from it, but Nicola Peltz and Gregg Sulkin’s characters most certainly do. Fisher’s an aspiring photographer who opts to ditch his home in Ithaca to spend the summer at his cousin Kate’s (Peltz) house in an extremely wealthy area on the North Shore of Long Island. The plan is to get away for a bit, take some pictures and try to get himself into a good school, but Fisher winds up getting caught up in Kate’s world of big parties, fancy things and an excess of self-indulgence. Everyone loves a good coming-of-age story, which is why we asked Gregg Sulkin, one of the stars of the upcoming coming-of-age movie "Affluenza," to pick five of his favorites.

You may know Sulkin from his stint on Disney's "Wizards of Waverly Place," or maybe you saw him on MTV's "Faking It," in any case, the actor has a keen grasp on teen angst and he goes one step further in showcasing that in "Affluenza." The movie, which centers on a group of privileged teens living it up in suburban, pre-recession 2008, is in theaters July 11.

With that, we'll let the expert take it away. Here are Gregg Sulkin's five favorite coming-of-age movies.

Though she can currently be seen on the big screen in Michael Bay’s Transformers: Age of Extinction, rising star Nicola Peltz isn’t done with television just yet. After breaking out on A&E’s excellent Bates Motel, her character departed the show early on in season two. While many fans were left disappointed, it was assumed that the actress wanted to focus on her film career and would not be returning.

In fact, we sat down with Peltz about a month ago and asked if we might ever see her back on Bates Motel. While she teased that we might, she wouldn’t confirm anything one way or another. This week, however, the actress seems to have had a change of heart.

Our very own Matt Donato landed an exclusive interview with Peltz for her new movie Affluenza and asked her about any future projects that she had in the pipeline.

It's hard to say exactly whom writer-director Kevin Asch is trying to warn with Affluenza, a teen drama about wealthy Hampton-ites that engages in more than a little virtuous tut-tutting. Is he cautioning a younger generation, in danger of taking their privilege for granted? Or, as suggested by a businessman who berates photographer and sometime weed dealer Fisher (Ben Rosenfield) in the opening scene, their laissez-faire parents? Or is the audience simply being warned away from types like Fisher’s host for the summer, a manic uncle played by Steve Guttenberg whose off-putting pencil mustache alone makes him a dubious role model? Chicago – Among the Transforming machines in the fourth installment of the “Transformers” series are human actors, poised to react to the giant robot madness around them. Nicola Peltz and Jack Reynor are newcomers to the series, and both are making major franchise film debuts in “Transformers: Age of Extinction.”

Peltz portrays Tessa Yeager, the daughter of Cade Yeager (Mark Walhberg), and they are both allied with the good-guy Transformer Autobots, who are the target of a government takedown. Jack Reynor is Shane Dyson, the secret boyfriend of Tessa, who also happens to be a expert race car driver, which is really handy when escaping both the emerging enemy Transformers and the government.

Nicola Peltz is also familiar to fans of “Bates Motel” on the A&E Network, portraying Bradley Martin. She was also seen in “Deck the Halls” (2006) and “The Last Airbender” (2010), and will have a role in the upcoming – and intriguingly titled “Affluenza.

Young adults lounge about, smoke, drink and party, but no, this isn't another trailer for “#RichKids of Beverly Hills.” “Affluenza” is an indie drama depicting a fictionalized version of that world, wherein the older generation can only look on in bewilderment as their kids revel in having no responsibilities and more money than they know what to do with. Now before watching this trailer I thought this movie might be about that Texas teen that got drunk, drove and killed four people and ultimately got off because he suffered from "affluenza" -- "the product of wealthy, privileged parents who never set limits for the boy." Currently trending topics of conversation include the ever-increasing wage disparity between classes, white privilege vs white guilt, and cultural causes of psychopathic behavior. So when the first trailer for writer-director Kevin Asch's drama Affluenza hit earlier today, I couldn't quite tell if the film was well-timed in its prescience or incredibly tone deaf to contemporary social issues. I suppose I'll have to wait and see how this loose adaptation of "The Great Gatsby" pans out to find out for sure, but the trailer plays like a teaser for a soap opera series on The CW. With three weeks to go before shooting starts for Dr. Barry Allen on the 2nd season of Arrow, the top contenders for TV’s The Flash emerge.

The Flash will get the origin treatment this season on Arrow, then possibly get his own spin-off series on The CW.

Arrow executive producer Andrew Kreisberg last week told EW,

“We’ll have to have somebody by Sept. 30, which is when we start shooting [his first] episode. Update: Li Bingbing (The Forbidden Kingdom), Nicola Peltz (The Last Airbender) and Sophia Myles (Thunderbirds) are the three women co-stars of Transformers 4, the first Transformers movie to not revolve around Sam Witwicky (Shia Labeouf). 

Bingbing's casting marks the union of Transformers 4 and China Movie Channel, the first agreement of its kind where China will work hand-in-hand with the American production. Paramount says Transformers helmer Michael Bay is one of the favorite directors of Chinese audiences.

This is obviously the biggest role for Peltz, who's known for Deck the Halls, The Last Airbender and the current Bates Motel TV series. She's also in post-production phase on Affluenza. James Marsden has signed on to star opposite Elizabeth Banks in the comedy Walk of Shame.  The story follows "a high-strung news anchor (Banks) who, after a wild night out, finds herself locked out on the street with no phone, money, ID or car, and embarks on a series of misadventures as she finds her way to the most important job interview of her life."  Steven Brill (Mr. Deeds) wrote and will direct.  Tom Rosenberg, Gary Lucchesi, and Sidney Kimmel are producing.  Banks and Marsden ought to be a nice comedic pairing, so while the logline doesn't hook me, the casting does. Sesso Entertainment Group has acquired film rights to Kurt Muse and John Gilstrap true-life 2006 action-adventure novel "Six Minutes to Freedom" says Variety.

The story follows an American living in Panama who was arrested in 1989 under the direct order of Noriega in retribution for his involvement in a plot to overthrow the dictator.

He was tortured during his nine months at Modelo Prison and was rescued by Delta Force operatives during the opening moments of the U.S. invasion.

Gilstrap is adapting the script and the project is now out to directors. Samuel V. Franco ("Affluenza") and Trish Hofmann ("Hemingway and Gellhorn") will produce with shooting aiming to begin by late next year.

July 11, 2012 - Gregg Sulkin, best known as Selena Gomez' werewolf boyfriend on "Wizards of Waverly Place", will star in "The Great Gatsby"-eque indie drama Affluenza. The coming-of-age story focuses on New York City's upperclass suburb of Long Island the summer before the 2008 financial meltdown.

Sulkin also has recurring roles on ABC Family series "Pretty Little Liars" and "Melissa & Joey." He's also in the upcoming White Frog with Tyler Posey and Booboo Stewart and Camilla Dickinson based on Madeline L'Engle's coming-of-age novel "Camilla" about a 15 year old girl whose parents are getting a divorce and finds solace by hanging out with a rebellious boy.

Hold onto your hats ladies and gentlemen, because The Gute may be coming back to movie screens near you; THR brings us the news that Steve Guttenberg and Samantha Mathis are the latest to join the cast of Affluenza, the Holy Rollers follow-up from director Kevin Asch and screenwriter Antonio Macia. The movie, which draws inspiration from the classic F. Scott Fitzgerald novel The Great Gatsby (which itself is getting the 3D, big-screen treatment this year), will take place right before the financial meltdown that nearly destroyed the United States in 2008.

According to Asch himself, Affluenza will deal with an American society that “was unprepared and unwilling to accept the death of the American dream.” Guttenberg and Mathis join a cast that includes Ben Rosenfield as main character Fisher Miller, Nicola Peltz, and Glee stalwart Grant Gustin, among many others. While the word’s still out on his return to Lima, Ohio, Glee‘s Grant Gustin‘s about to make his mark in theaters. Known for his days as the villainous Sebastian Symthe on television’s musical sensation, Gustin has just landed the lead in the indie Affluenza, set to start production next week in Manhattan and Great Neck, N.Y. But aside from that confirmed role, there’s also the possibility of a major break-out coming his way.

The actor has also revealed to The Insider that he’s auditioned for the hotly-contested role of Finnick in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. Considering Lionsgate seems to be looking at all young male talent – including Armie Hammer, Garrett Hedlund, and Taylor Kitsch – there’s no reason why Gustin may have a leg up, but there’s another hat to throw into the ring.
