A mysterious illness has killed more than 60 people in northwest Democratic Republic of Congo (Drc) over the past six weeks, according to the World Health Organization (Who).
The Who said in a bulletin that 431 cases and 60 deaths occurred in two outbreaks in remote villages in different health zones in Equateur province.

“The outbreaks, which have seen cases rise rapidly within days, pose a significant public health threat,” Who spokesperson Tarik Jasarevic told a briefing. “The exact cause remains unknown.”
Jasarevic said that the villages have both limited surveillance capacity and health infrastructure.
The larger outbreak, reported from Bomate village, killed 45 people out of 419 cases. Almost half of them died within 48 hours of falling ill, the Who said, with symptoms including fever, pain, vomiting, internal bleeding and diarrhea.
This two-day timespan is the interval between the onset of these several symptoms.

The Sopranos had its fair share of shocking deaths, but not all of them were scripted from the start. One cast member took matters into her own hands, demanding a brutal exit after battling a real-life addiction that mirrored her on-screen struggles.

A great hero is nothing without an equally compelling villain spurring them into action, and across the history of cinema, there have been some truly awesome antagonists. From sadistic superiors to murderous maniacs, movie villains come in all shapes and sizes, as the dark depravity and calculated motivations of the bad guys have brought movies to life and made for truly nail-biting viewing. With villains often representing a dark subversion of the hero’s personality, in some cases, the antagonist has endured far more than the protagonist in mainstream popular culture.
Many of the best movies ever made gained their acclaim because of the villains at the heart of their stories, whose unsettling and intriguing nature made audiences question their own morality and beliefs. From an actor’s perspective, playing a villain is often more interesting, as their depraved nature and underhanded tactics keep things exciting. While it’s true...

Nurse Christine Chapel has a blink-and-you'll-miss-it cameo in the 2009 Star Trek movie. Nurse Chapel was a fixture of Dr. Leonard McCoy's (DeForest Kelley) sickbay, often standing by to provide assistance (or pine after Leonard Nimoy's Spock) in 25 episodes of Star Trek: The Original Series. In Star Trek: The Motion Picture, Dr. Christine Chapel easily falls into her old role as McCoy's trusted nurse. The prequel Star Trek: Strange New Worlds improves Nurse Chapel (Jess Bush), making her a brilliant scientist with her own character arc.

Silent Hill 2 Remake has thankfully brought back one of the most iconic monsters from the original game, the Bubble Head Nurse. These creepy creatures dressed like nurses are much more terrifying this time around with their improved looks and animations.
They are armed with a melee weapon and move quickly when James gets close, and act in a more unpredictable way, which makes them even more dangerous. This means players can easily get caught off guard, making the fight with them tougher. Killing a Bubble Head Nurse requires good timing and strategy. If you’re not careful, they’ll catch you with their fast attacks.

One of the bigger cable hits of early cinematic television in the early 2000s was Showtime's Nurse Jackie. Fans of the popular medical drama will remember the ups and downs that came with the telling of Jackie Peyton's story. A suburban wife and mother of two who works full time as an ER nurse at All Saints Hospital in New York City seemingly has a normal life, if not for the fact that she's a serious drug addict.
Nurse Jackie does a fantastic job exploring the various aspects of drug abuse and its effect on people's lives, detailing the lengths people with addiction will go to get their next fix. The darkest depths of Nurse Jackie portray Jackie's inability to care about how much of her life she'll destroy in order to keep using. The twists and turns of the series are specifically designed season by season to give Jackie Peyton a perfect arc,...

The movie version of One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest is closely associated with Jack Nicholson -- but it wasn't planned that way. Kirk Douglas had bought the rights to Ken Keseys counterculture call to arms and performed a stage version on Broadway in 1963; he felt the natural next step was to make a movie. But time -- and several delays -- were against him, enabling Nicholson to win his first Oscar for his performance as R.P. McMurphy after the film's release in 1975.
The film would win four more statuettes from nine nominations and become an influential piece of 1970s cinema. Director Milos Forman ensured that everything on screen felt authentic. The ensemble cast -- which included Danny DeVito and Christopher Lloyd -- completely immersed themselves in the environment of a real mental institution and gave fearless performances. Nicholson may be the one audiences remember, but nearly 50 years later, the...

Makeine: Too Many Losing Heroines! is available for streaming on Crunchyroll.
Makeine: Too Many Losing Heroines! is one of the most popular anime series of the Summer 2024 lineup, highly praised for its well-written and painfully relatable characters, introspective plot, and stunning animation (credited to A-1 Pictures). This slice-of-life romantic comedy based on Takibi Amamoris light novel is a hit anime that will continue to be loved long after its final episode airs.
A huge part of Makeine's appeal is its characters, who are not only realistically written versions of common anime stereotypes but also possess a unique charm that endears them to viewers, especially the so-called "losing heroines" of the series. Each character leaves the audience looking forward to their growth and victory, regardless of the anime's title.

Danielle Jbali is asking for financial assistance to help pay for nursing school, but her critics think that should be 100 percent her responsibility.
The 90 Day Fiance Season 2 alum graduated nursing school in 2021 and has worked as an Lpn or licensed practical nurse.
Now that she’s worked in nursing for a few years, Danielle is ready to further her career and become an Rn, or registered nurse.
Going from an Lpn to an Rn means more schooling for Danielle. While someone can become an Lpn in 12-18 months, becoming an Rn typically takes two to four years.
More schooling means more tuition for the 51-year-old former reality TV star, and apparently, she’s having trouble making the payments.
Taking to her Instagram feed this week, Danielle uploaded a photo of herself from her lamp ceremony last year, which marked the halfway point for her Rn program.

I'll Be Right There is a great and critically acclaimed film that is a wonderfully bittersweet tribute to parenthood. The dramedy focuses on a mother who struggles to contend with all the tasks and responsibilities she faces as a mother to a dysfunctional family. The film focuses on Edie Falco's Wanda, a friendly and well-meaning woman who finds herself constantly helping those around her. This includes her constantly gambling mother Grace, her recovering addict son Mark, and her pregnant daughter Sarah.
On top of that, Wanda finds herself torn between two lovers, both of whom consistently try to turn her into their idealized partner. It's a quietly tricky balancing act that the film can nail, and a challenge that I'll Be Right There knocks out well. The film (and the world within it) hangs almost entirely on Edie Falco's role as the patient mother, and it speaks to kind...

Edie Falco's Nurse Jackie is getting a revival which will see the series return a decade after ending its initial run. Despite the passage of time, Falco explains that now's a good time to bring the show back, as its subject matter is just as relevant as ever.
Falco discussed the show's return in a new interview with Screen Rant. She was asked why now is the best time for Nurse Jackie's return on Prime Video, and Falco touched on how mental health issues and subsequent drug use are still a very big danger, no less so than they were when the show was on the air previously. Because Nurse Jackie "did a fair amount of exploration" into that subject, the show may have helped viewers who were dealing with their own struggles, and Falso is hoping that the revival will similarly provide some inspiration for others.

With a decade gone since the show first ended, Nurse Jackie star Edie Falco addresses why now is a good time for the sequel show. Running for seven seasons across six years from 2009-2015, the series told the story of Falco's Jackie Peyton, an emergency department nurse caught between her complicated relationships and addictions. With mostly positive praise across its original run, a Nurse Jackie sequel show series that Falco will lead and produce was confirmed to be in development in 2023.
As it nears a decade since Nurse Jackie's seventh and final season aired, Falco explained to Screen Rant why the time to revisit the character was perfect when she sat down to discuss her upcoming comedy, I'll Be Right There. The star explained that current mental health crises and discussions around addiction make the series' themes and subject matter worth discussing so that people can learn through the media they consume.

The Night Nurse may not have been able to drag the Dead Boy Detectives out of the world of the living, but Netflix could. The streamer has canceled their adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s comics after just one season, TheWrap has learned.
The series starred Jayden Revri and George Rexstrew as Charles Rowland and Edwin Payne respectively, a pair of teenagers who were both killed unexpectedly. When they meet in the afterlife, they quickly become best friends and decide to team up to form a detective agency, which gives both the comics that served as the inspiration and the show itself its title.

Dead By Daylight has entertained fans for over eight years by introducing new Survivors, maps, and Killers to keep the gameplay loop fresh and exciting. Those eight years have given Behavior Interactive time to create a huge roster of Killers, ranging from the original three to crossovers with some of the greatest horror franchises of the modern era.
Excluding the Trapper, Wraith, Hillbilly, Nurse, and Huntress, all extra Killers must be purchased through their associated Dlc, called a Chapter in-game. This makes it hard to know which Killers are worth the extra cost and which ones you can gloss over. A Killer's strength is best gauged by their unique ability and the skills they can later pass on to other Killers.

For as long as there have been films, there have been filmmakers attempting to enhance the theatrical experience through the use of gimmicks. From the red-eyed skeletons of William Castle to the “odorama” cards of John Waters’ Polyester, gimmicks are the puns of the filmmaking world: memorable and effective in small quantities, but annoying when overused.
That’s why I get why so many people reject 3D cinema. After all, modern theater screens ended up becoming oversaturated with lazily post-converted cash-grabs rather than movies that were shot on actual stereoscopic cameras. However, having just recently fixed my own aging 3D TV and binge-watched dozens of gimmicky genre films, I’m pleased to say that there are a surprising number of fun 3D experiences beyond the usual suspects.
With that in mind, here’s a list recommending six underrated horror movies that were shot in 3D!

Not sure that I would equate Tom Holland and Zendaya with the same level of triple-a star firepower as Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor, but the last time I witnessed sheer frenzied pandemonium outside the Duke of York’s Theatre was when Taylor went to see Burton read excerpts from Dylan Thomas’ Under Milk Wood in February 1982.
It was bonkers, with onlookers five deep on both sides of the street waiting for a glimpse of the superstar much-married Hollywood lovers.
Four decades on, I found myself at the same theatre that has stood on the site in St. Martin’s Lane since 1892.
This time it was the occasion of the official opening night for Jamie Lloyd’s stark, modern-dress production of Shakespeare’s The Most Excellent and Lamentable Tragedy of Romeo & Juliet, to give its full title, starring Holland and Francesca Amewudah-Rivers as the tragic star-crossed lovers.

"Good night, John-Boy. Good night, Elizabeth. And good night, daddy. Good night, son. And good night, mama. Good night, Mary Ellen. Good night, Jim Bob." Even if you've never watched a single moment of the classic TV show "The Waltons," the impact the series has had on television continues on even to this day. With the series' roots stemming back all the way to one of the most hated episodes of "The Twilight Zone" in history, references to "The Waltons" have extended all the way to films like 2016's "The Nice Guys," where Matt Bomber's villainous Dr. Malek is given the code name "John Boy" as he shares a similar facial birthmark to John-Boy actor Richard Thomas.

Film-maker Alvin Gray rode a rollercoaster of emotions as a young woman went ‘missing’. The result was The Nurse That Saw the Baby on the Highway
When Carlee Russell “disappeared” on the evening of 13 July, the matter was treated with a seriousness that is rarely extended to cases of missing Black women and girls.
Pictures of the 26-year-old proliferated on social media, and police in her Hoover, Alabama, hometown launched a statewide dragnet. But as the circumstances of Russell’s disappearance became more clear, the established narrative quickly unraveled.

People like to tell you that film and television are basically interchangeable now, but that is far from the truth. Each medium has its own strengths, and while they utilize similar filmmaking techniques, the stories told in one medium are not necessarily suited to be transported to the other. In the case of television, stories are heavily reliant on a sturdy ensemble. Being a more condensed art form, films can so easily hone in on the inner life of one character, but with a long-running TV series, spending all your time with one person would become monotonous and give you a false sense of the world they inhabit.
This is especially true of sitcoms. Comedy is built on action and reaction, and to build that kind of back-and-forth, you are going to need a cast of characters to show up...

Warning: Spoilers for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 2 Finale - "Hegemony"
Strange New Worlds season 2 focused on Lt. Spock's character development, including his relationships, hijacking the Enterprise, and risking his life to save Nurse Christine Chapel. Despite the shocking reveal in season 1, Sybok's return was not explored in season 2, which is disappointing. Sybok's absence in season 2 creates an opportunity for his character to interject in Spock's emotionally vulnerable state in season 3, potentially leading to a greater villainy.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 2 took a lot of "big swings" that worked, and perhaps the only disappointment is that Sybok didn't return. Introduced in Star Trek V: The Final Frontier, Sybok (Lawrence Luckinbill) is Spock's older half-brother. The eldest son of Ambassador Sarek (Mark Lenard) and a Vulcan princess, Sybok was a renegade and heretic who eschewed logic and built a following on his...

Most characters in horror films, apart from the final girl, of course, are usually there to add nothing more than a tally to the body count. The Halloween movies are no different. The franchise is notorious for killing its side characters, but while it may be expected at this point, there’s one death that still stings: Nurse Marion Chambers (Nancy Stephens). We first met Nurse Marion in the original ‘78 film that started it all. In it, she’s a nurse at Smith’s Grove Sanitarium, and Dr. Loomis’ (Donald Pleasance) right-hand (wo)man, meaning she’s very well acquainted with Michael Myers. Her addition to the first film is brief, but she gets a more prominent feature in Halloween II. She’s the one who delivers the twist that Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) is Michael Myers's sister. Her actual screen time may have been slight, but she left a mark nonetheless.

The following contains spoilers for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 2, Episode 5, "Charades," now streaming on Paramount+.
One of the reasons for the vast success of Strange New Worlds is that the series takes time to explore its core cast of characters. Every episode of the show so far unpacks a deeper aspect of both long beloved and newer characters in the franchise. The show's opening conflict, Pike dealing with his mortality, sets the series up for its character-driven story style, and this trend continues with Season 2, Episode 5, "Charades." The episode further explores Spock's arc as he navigates his human side after a shuttle accident. It deals with the central love triangle in the series with Spock, his fiancée T'Pring and Nurse Chapel.
Although T'Pring only appears in one episode of The Original Series, the Season 2 opener, "Amok Time," shows that she has been betrothed to Spock since childhood,...

Los Angeles, June 27 (Ians) Actress Laura Benanti, who has shared screen space with Jennifer Lawrence in ‘No Hard Feelings’, has gushed over the Oscar-winning actress and said that she is not a “princess”.
“You immediately forget she’s a movie star when you meet her,” said Laura Benanti.
“She’s so down to earth.”
Lawrence stars in ‘No Hard Feelings’ as an Uber driver who agrees to date a wealthy couple’s (Benanti and Matthew Broderick) socially awkward 19-year-old son (Andrew Barth Feldman) in exchange for a car, reports ‘Variety’.
“Sure, at first I was nervous because it’s like, ‘How are you so beautiful?’” Benanti said of Lawrence. “But then I was immediately laughing with her. She’s so funny, silly and a hard worker. She’s not a princess. She is comfortable being uncomfortable.”
In one much-buzzed-about scene, Lawrence is completely naked during an epic fight on the beach.

Changes made to the true story The Nurse is based on resulted in a major question going unanswered. Naturally, studios are usually careful when it comes to adapting real-life traumatic events. Aside from Ash and Pikachu themselves, there are few Pokémon characters more iconic than Nurse Joy as she is always there to take care of sick or injured Pokémon–but there is a secret darkness to her that was revealed upon her anime debut, and Pikachu proves it.
Nurse Joy is a both equally canonically important and hilariously meta within the Pokémon anime’s continuity. In the original video game, Nurse Joy was located within every Pokémon Center in every town and city the player travels to. While there is no in-world explanation for how one character can travel from city to city seemingly instantaneously, the anime has a perfect work-around for that phenomenon. Apparently, every Nurse Joy is just related to the other, despite the fact that they look like perfect clones of each other. While that mystery is certainly worth looking deeper into, that isn’t the hidden...

Nurse Christine Chapel (Jess Bush) has been significantly improved by Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, which has turned her into a bona fide fan favorite. Chapel is one of two Star Trek legacy characters originated by Majel Barrett-Roddenberry who are featured in Strange New Worlds, the other being Number One (Rebecca Romijn). But as a modernized prequel to Star Trek: The Original Series, Strange New Worlds has developed Nurse Chapel far beyond the character Majel was limited to in the 1960s.
Nurse Chapel is destined to be the Nurse supporting Dr. Leonard McCoy (DeForest Kelley) on the USS Enterprise in Star Trek: The Original Series. Strange New Worlds establishes that Christine actually began her service on the Enterprise commanded by Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount) seven years prior. It's during this five-year mission that Chapel first meets Spock (Ethan Peck) and Nyota Uhura (Celia Rose Gooding), who she will continue...
