Clint Eastwood is legendary. He’s a holdover from a bygone era. The beloved filmmaker is pushing 100 and still delivering quality content as an actor and director. I hope I live well into my golden years and I hope I’m as cogent and prolific as he when I get to be his age.
I am not putting you on when I say Eastwood is still cranking out bangers in his twilight years. His latest, Juror #2, was released to primarily positive reviews. And he shot that film in his mid-90s. That’s nothing less than exceptional. However, we are not here to talk about Juror #2 today. No, we are instead spotlighting another recent effort from Eastwood. I’m talking about Cry Macho, a Western thriller he starred in and directed in 2021.

As one of the oldest film genres of all time, the Western has more than its fair share of legendary movies under its holster belt. The genres range from the often-imitated, never-duplicated The Searchers from the iconic John Ford to the Spaghetti Western pulp greatness of Sergio Leone's The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, all the way to the neo-Westerns of the modern day, like the Best Picture-winning No Country for Old Men, the highest peak that Marvel ever reached with Logan, or late-career Clint Eastwood classics like Cry Macho. As is to be expected, as the genre accumulated all-time great films, it also accumulated all-time great filmmakers, from actors to screenwriters to producers to cinematographers, all the way to, of course, directors.

Warner Bros. Discovery and CEO David Zaslav is on a downward spiral in terms of satisfying both fans like me and key creators. The studio earned the wrath of fans and filmmakers alike when they announced that films would be released on streaming on the same day as their theatrical release right after the pandemic under the leadership of Zaslav.
Now, the CEO’s treatment of legendary filmmaker Clint Eastwood’s supposed last film Juror #2 has been nothing short of insulting. Despite being one of the best films of the year, the Nicholas Hoult starrer was released in only 30 and odd centers with little marketing efforts from the studio. The absolute disregard for a legend like Eastwood makes me feel that Zaslav is not going to take any good creative decisions in the future.

One of the most important figures in the history of cinema, with both on and off-screen presence that has lasted more than half a century, Clint Eastwood spans generations of Hollywood. His on-camera work in the Western films of the 1960s helped to usher in the Spaghetti Western subgenre, and his pivot to movies like Dirty Harry represented a shift toward the grittier pessimism of New Hollywood.
However, much of Eastwood's most prolific work has been behind the camera, directing dozens of movies over the last several decades. Even when Eastwood is not on the screen in one of his own films, his minimalist style and quiet approach to telling small-scale human stories still peek through, and he continues to capture the depth of the human experience well into his 90s.

The voting period for Oscar nominees this year has ended and there might be a surprise for Clint Eastwood fans. While his latest and potentially last film, Juror No. 2, did not make it to anyone’s top 5 prediction list, Academy voters show more interest in the film. The film explores the moral dilemma of a juror when he finds out that he could’ve accidentally killed the victim in the case.

For the last 30 years, every Clint Eastwood film carries the wistful and reflective tone of someone looking to walk off into the sunset. Despite starring and directing in a handful of stories about aging people on their last legs, the 94-year-old Eastwood, whose 2024 film, Juror #2, is now streaming on Max, refuses to retire or passively accept his screen persona. For someone whose work in the Western and crime thriller milieu is so easily misinterpreted, it's no surprise that he feels obligated to amend his filmography with deconstructions of these genres. With Unforgiven, however, Eastwood stuck to his guns by retiring from the Western genre for good. Still, he couldn't help himself, as the nonagenarian director unceremoniously returned to the revisionist Western in 2021 with Cry Macho. Despite what followed 30 years later, Eastwood's 1992 masterpiece was undoubtedly the end of the road for the Western genre.

Clint Eastwood's Best Picture-winning Western is getting a new streaming home. Since the 1960s, the American icon has been widely associated with the Western genre. He rose to fame for his roles as the ramrod Rowdy Yates in the Western television series Rawhide and the bounty hunter, the Man with No Name, in director Sergio Leone's Dollars trilogy of spaghetti Westerns, which includes A Fistful of Dollars, For a Few Dollars More, and The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.
Eastwood capped off the 1960s with the Westerns Hang 'Em High, which was his first starring role in an American movie, and the musical Paint Your Wagon. During the 1970s, Eastwood starred in Two Mules for Sister Sara and Joe Kidd before he began directing his own Westerns in addition to starring, starting with High Plains Drifter and followed by The Outlaw Josey Wales and Pale Rider. In Hollywood, some films take a long winding path to the screen. But few journeys have been as twisted – or as ironic – as that of Cry Macho, a movie that spent nearly half a century bouncing around between stars before landing in the hands of a then-91-year-old Clint Eastwood. But what’s even more surprising is that the role of the macho protagonist was once destined for none other than the former governor and action star Arnold Schwarzenegger. The announcement of his casting came in 2011, but personal circumstances forced him to back out of the project.
While the story had potential as it’s about a subject not often depicted - a macho type is wrestling with his past after he’s lost everything - it’s the execution that made this film a failure at the box office. Ill-fitting casting choices and pacing issues seem to hinder the film’s success.

Clint Eastwood owes his career to Westerns. He became a familiar face to American television viewers between 1959 and 1965 as the ramrod Rowdy Yates in the popular CBS series "Rawhide" before venturing off to Spain, where, with Italian filmmaker Sergio Leone, he helped turn the genre on its ear with the Spaghetti Western trilogy of "A Fistful of Dollars," "For a Few Dollars More," and "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly." From that point forward, Eastwood in any kind of Western was a big deal at the box office, which was especially impressive considering that oaters were declining in popularity throughout the 1960s and into the '70s.
Ultimately, even Eastwood couldn't keep the genre afloat. After an impressive run that included "Hang 'Em High," "Two Mules for Sister Sara," "High Plains Drifter," and "The Outlaw Josey Wales," the star only made one proper Western in the 1980s ("Pale Rider...

Clint Eastwood may first have been known as an actor, due in part to his starring roles in Westerns, including the iconic Dollars trilogy, but he's now just as well known for his directing. Eastwood's first directing gig was Play Misty for Me in 1971, and he followed that film up with others like High Plains Drifter (1973), The Outlaw Josey Wales (1976), Heartbreak Ridge (1986), and, of course, Unforgiven (1992).
Eastwood continued to appear in films throughout the 2000s, but the 2010s saw his career shift to one more focused on directing. He gave audiences films like American Sniper (2014), Sully (2016), and Richard Jewell (2019), while also doing double duty as star and director in The Mule (2018) and Cry Macho (2021). At 94 years old, most in Hollywood would be long retired, but Eastwood put out yet another film this year, and it's been a success with critics and audiences.

When it comes to icons of American movies, there is perhaps no greater figure than Clint Eastwood. For nearly 75 years, Eastwood has been a staple of the Hollywood landscape. Though he may have started off as an actor, he would eventually try his hand at directing, giving audiences some truly memorable films across a variety of genres. Coming off of Cry Macho in 2021, Eastwood's new movie is Juror #2, a gripping crime drama starring Nicholas Hoult, Toni Collette, and J.K. Simmons.
Eastwood, however, remains best known in many circles for his contributions to the Western genre. Some of the most iconic Western appearances are in the Dollars trilogy, with The Good, The Bad & The Ugly (1966) being a particular highlight. In addition to starring in these films, Eastwood has also directed a handful of Westerns, including one title that has since become one of his greatest achievements.

Clint Eastwood is nothing short of a Hollywood legend. His first acting credit dates back to nearly 70 years ago, and he would go on to become a force both in front of and behind the camera, appearing in iconic films like the Dollars trilogy and Dirty Harry, and directing others like Letters From Iwo Jima (2006) and American Sniper (2014). Often, his acting and directing work has overlapped, and these overlaps are some of the most memorable titles of his filmography.

At 86, Ridley Scott is on the cusp of releasing one of the biggest films of his career — “Gladiator II” — and already has at least two additional projects lined up for 2025, a reteam with Paul Mescal and a Bee Gees biopic. With no signs of slowing down.

Max has announced that Juror #2, Clint Eastwood’s latest (and likely final) movie, will arrive on the streaming service on December 20th.
The announcement comes after a bit of controversy surrounding the film’s release — Warner Bros., Juror #2’s distributor, chose an extremely limited release, screening the movie in fewer than 50 domestic theaters before it inevitably headed to Max. Furthermore, the studio opted for little-to-no advertising, declined to report domestic ticket sales, and even initially removed it from the awards page of their website.
The minimized strategy is said to be an effort by the studio to protect Eastwood from a major box office or critical disappointment. Yet, despite having strong audience impressions and favorable reviews, Warner Bros. still seems totally indifferent to giving Eastwood’s film a larger release.
Even director Guillermo del Toro wondered why Eastwood’s work was getting stifled by the studio, raving about the film on Bluesky.

After playing in around 50 theaters across the nation, Juror #2 is finally headed to streaming later this year. The Clint Eastwood-directed film might be the veteran filmmaker's last project, but that hasn't stopped Warner Bros. from practically burying the film during its theatrical release, despite the overwhelmingly positive reviews from critics. But now Juror #2 will be readily available for everyone to watch in the comfort of their own home, for a small fee, of course.
The streamer announced that Juror #2 would be joining the platform as a "Max Original" on December 20. Despite being marketed as a Warner Bros. $3.8 billion. That’s the amount of money Clint Eastwood’s films have grossed at the North American box office throughout his career. A superstar since the 1960s, Eastwood is rare in that almost all of his biggest blockbusters, including all the Dirty Harry movies, were all made for Warner Bros. It’s been his home studio since about the time he made The Outlaw Josey Wales. He’s made everything from Oscar-winners to action movies, to movies where he’s chilling with his pal Clyde the Orangutan for them, and they almost always ended up at least breaking even. Sure, he’s had a few flops, but even in his golden years, he still cranked out smash hits for them, with American Sniper making over half a billion dollars, while The Mule and Sully both made over $100 million domestically. Why all the outrage over the apparent slighting of Clint Eastwood’s “Juror #2”? There’s the limited theatrical release, no advertising, and initial absence from Warner Bros. Guillermo del Toro is being the judge on the theatrical rollout for Clint Eastwood’s “Juror #2.”
The Academy Award-winning director took to social media to question why Warner Bros. only gave an extremely limited theatrical release to Eastwood’s critically acclaimed legal thriller. The film opened November 1 in merely 31 U.S. and Canadian theaters, as well as in six European countries; it expanded to a handful of additional U.S. cities for its second week in theaters.
Del Toro is now urging audiences to go to the theaters to support “Juror #2,” while also asking Warner Bros. to hopefully leave the feature in theaters for longer.
“Went to the theatre to see ‘Juror #2,’ Clint Eastwood’s latest film. We enjoyed it tremendously. It’s — in some ways — his ‘Crimes and Misdemeanors,'” Del Toro wrote, via World of Reel. “The film is precisely and assuredly filmed and it’s Nicolas Hoult’s to lead.

Clint Eastwood's breakout role was, of course, the Man with No Name in Sergio Leone's 1964 Western classic "A Fistful of Dollars." At the time the movie was released, 17-year-old bodybuilder Arnold Schwarzenegger who had just started a competitive career in his native Austria, far from both Hollywood and Spain's Tabernas Desert where Leone's seminal Western was shot. But the movie, and specifically Eastwood's movie star magnetism, made a big impression on the young Schwarzenegger, who throughout the illustrious career that followed his early bodybuilding days has praised the Hollywood veteran as one of his idols. The "Terminator" star even modeled his post-Governator acting career on Eastwood, telling The Hollywood Reporter in 2011:
"In the future I have to adapt my roles to my age. Clint Eastwood also has done it in the same way. Extreme fighting or shooting is not possible anymore. I want to be...

About halfway through his already remarkable career, actor Clint Eastwood reinvented himself as one of Hollywood's most critically acclaimed directors. Since then, directing has become much more of a focus, especially as he seemingly chose films that challenged his former big-screen image. Then, in 1992, came the culmination of that vain thought when Eastwood directed what was essentially the final word on the 20th Century Hollywood Western in the seminal Unforgiven.
More than three decades later, Clint Eastwood is 94 years old, remaining as prolific today as he's ever been. Sure, the heyday of his career is certainly behind him, but that hasn't stopped this versatile filmmaker from still occasionally making some truly fantastic films, like the recently released Juror #2, his 40th movie as director. In fact, since 2010, Clint Eastwood has directed an incredibly diverse range of films, a few of which have even managed to reach close to the heights of his very best.

Juror #2 has had an incredibly weird release strategy, with this plan being immensely confusing after Clint Eastwood's $173 million box office hit from only six years ago. Clint Eastwood is one of the biggest figures in Hollywood, with him starring in and directing movies for the better part of a decade now and consistently being critically and commercial successful. Despite Clint Eastwood's involvement, however, the director's newest film Juror #2 hasn't gotten a wide theatrical release. This strange decision from Warner Bros. Pictures has been the subject of much conversation, with it limiting access to Juror #2.
2024's Juror #2 is the latest film from superstar icon Clint Eastwood, and while he has directed it, he isn't starring in this one. Instead, the cast of Juror #2 stars Nicholas Hoult, while major actors like Zoey Deutch, Toni Collette, Kiefer Sutherland, and J.K. Simmons make up the supporting cast. The film follows a...

Let’s start by giving Warner Bros. Discovery credit. They took a risk in financing “Juror #2,” a $30 million adult drama by a nonagenarian auteur whose last film (“Cry Macho”) grossed $16.5 million worldwide. And here, movie star Clint Eastwood was director only on the intimate, complex morality tale in the shape of a courtroom drama.
Without a seven-decade studio relationship, perhaps no one would back this. But Warners did — and having done so, dropped the ball.
“Juror #2” opened last Friday with little fanfare and less marketing in 31 U.S./Canada theaters as well as six European countries, where it had a more elevated presence. A handful of additional dates were added in the second week, with new cities that included Houston, Austin, Denver, and Portland. Press screenings were also limited; many entertainment writers complained of not being invited.

If the Warner Bros. logo was a badge, as opposed to a shield, Clint Eastwood would be the man behind it: the tough, rule-bending guy who sticks to his guns, à la Harry Callahan. So why is the studio doing him dirty on “Juror No. 2,” Eastwood’s 40th — and quite possibly last — stint in the director’s chair?
At 94, the star is just seven years younger than the studio with which he’s been associated since 1971. That was the year he shot “Dirty Harry” with his filmmaking mentor, Don Siegel, for WB, and it was also the year that Eastwood made his own directing debut, “Play Misty for Me,” over at Universal. He’s strayed from Warner Bros. just a few times since 1975, calling the studio home for nearly half a century, during which he’s earned four Oscars — and more than $4 billion at the box office.

There have been some conflicting reports regarding the release strategy for Juror #2, Clint Eastwood's latest and possibly last film as a director. The movie was made for the Max streaming service, but word on the street is that Warner Bros. pivoted to a theatrical release following positive test screenings. When it was revealed that the film would only be given a limited run on 50 screens (it's currently playing on just 35), some saw it as blatant disrespect to Eastwood, who has worked with the studio for years. As overwhelmingly positive reviews emerged for Juror #2, some thought another pivot might be in store to expand its theatrical release, but it looks like that isn't going to happen.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, Juror #2 was made for Max due to uncertainty around the performance of adult-skewing dramas at the box office. This was done with Eastwood's approval and wasn't a situation where he...

The headlines were grim. Slapped with poor reviews and a B- CinemaScore from audiences, Robert Zemeckis’ new movie Here opened to just $4.8 million from 2,642 North American theaters over the Nov. 1-3 weekend despite the intriguing chance to see the veteran director reunite with stars Tom Hanks and Robin Wright for the first time since their seminal, Oscar-winning film Forrest Gump three decades ago.

Juror #2 is performing well at the box office in spite of its limitations. Even though the project, which stars Nicholas Hoult as a juror facing a moral quandary, could be Clint Eastwood's last movie, it has received minimal support from Warner Bros. Pictures in its domestic debut. A recent report suggested that it may never expand beyond a 50-theater limited run and that the distributor is not reporting their own box office numbers, in a move that could reflect doubt that it will perform well either commercially or as an awards contender.
Per Deadline, reporting from 35 theaters shows that Juror #2's projected 3-day domestic opening weekend total is between $260,000 and $275,000, which is a solid per-screen average of roughly $7,500. To compare, the opening weekend per-screen average for Venom: The Last Dance, which cost more than 3 times Juror #2's roughly $35 million budget, was $12,348, while the comparably budgeted Smile 2 has a...

“Venom: The Last Dance” notched an encouraging box office milestone, crossing the $300 million mark in its second weekend of release.
So far, the third and final entry in Sony’s alien symbiote comic book trilogy has grossed $317.1 million globally, including $227 million internationally and $90 million domestically. The film, led by Tom Hardy as the titular antihero, opened this weekend in France with $6.5 million and Japan with $3.8 million. Other top markets are China with $70.6 million and Mexico with $13.4 million. “The Last Dance” cost $120 million to produce, which is far less expensive than most superhero tentpoles. So, it should be decently positioned in its theatrical run even if grosses don’t match the two prior installments, 2018’s “Venom” ($856 million worldwide) and 2021’s “Let There Be Carnage” ($506 million worldwide).
Elsewhere at the international box office, Clint Eastwood’s “Juror No. 2” collected $5 million from 1,348 screens across six territories. The Warner Bros. film had the...

Despite his contribution to showbiz throughout his decades-long venture in the realm of cinema, Hollywood icon Clint Eastwood is seemingly facing an uphill battle against the WB executives over Juror No. 2. While the actor has been loyal to the Industry giant for five decades, and has earned them billions in box-office grosses, on top of critical glory, his potential last film has received little to no push from the studio.

Clint Eastwood's latest movie, Juror #2, has debuted on Rotten Tomatoes with an early score that could offer the director redemption. The new legal thriller, which could be Eastwood's final directorial bid, is a high-stakes courtroom drama focusing on a juror's moral dilemma. Juror #2 stars Nicholas Hoult as Justin Kemp, a man serving jury duty who begins to suspect that he might have committed the very crime he is now tasked with judging. As Kemp wrestles with his conscience, the film will explore his guilt, along with explorations of justice and accountability, hallmarks of Eastwood's storytelling.

Since 1964, Clint Eastwood has been a Hollywood legend, having found stardom by playing the Man With No Name in Sergio Leone's Dollars Trilogy. Taking on a variety of roles, from grizzled cowboys to morally ambiguous detectives, the actor/director has been responsible for some of the most critically acclaimed movies. However, not every one of his movies lands with audiences -- despite some being excellent.
Eastwood has more legendary films under his belt than most actors, from Where Eagles Dare and Kelly's Heroes to Dirty Harry and Unforgiven. Like any actor, however, he has his share of films that, despite being decent stories, didn't make a good impression on audiences or critics. From off-brand dramas to forgotten thrillers, the star has no shortage of underrated movies that are still worth a look.

Clint Eastwood directs Juror #2 to add to his filmography, but questions linger about whether it is his last movie. As an iconic figure in front of and behind the camera, Clint Eastwood's desire to continue working over the years has been impressive to watch. Clint Eastwoods longtime producer, Tim Moore, has addressed whether his latest film, Juror #2, will be the movie icon's last. The upcoming movie follows Justin Kemp (Nicholas Hoult), a juror for a high-profile murder trial who finds himself struggling with a serious moral dilemma that could influence the verdict and potentially convict, or free, the accused killer. The film also stars Toni Collette, J. K. Simmons, Zoey Deutch, and Kiefer Sutherland. Moore has worked with Eastwood for over two decades, producing films such as American Sniper, Cry Macho, Richard Jewell, The Mule, J. Edgar, The 15:17 to Paris, Jersey Boys, and Sully.
In an interview with Deadline, Moore was asked if Juror #2 would be Eastwood's swan song. The producer stated that he didn't know, adding that Eastwood had stated that he planned to call it quits for some time. He also commented that he would retire before the director but that he has yet to retire.

Warner Bros. may have made a grave error by trying to bury legendary actor Clint Eastwood’s latest film Juror No. 2. The 94-year-old filmmaker’s 40th film recently premiered at the AFI Fest but Eastwood reportedly skipped the event, in what is being speculated to be a protest against the studio.

If a studio has a film by Clint Eastwood on deck, you would think they would give it a rollout worthy of his pedigree and longevity in the industry. This should especially be true if the film turns out to be his last movie as a director, something that has been widely said about his upcoming release, Juror #2. Warner Bros. is the studio releasing the film, but they aren't treating it like a project by an acclaimed director. In fact, they seem to be treating it like an afterthought.
Variety reports that despite Juror #2 having its world premiere at AFI Fest this weekend at the Tcl Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, Warner Bros. will only be releasing the film in less than 50 theaters, with no plans to expand the film in the weeks ahead. As of now, it looks like showtimes are popping up at four locations in New York City,...

Juror #2 may only ever have a limited release. The upcoming Warner Bros. movie, which was directed by Clint Eastwood, stars Nicholas Hoult as Justin Kemp, a juror who faces a major dilemma when he realizes that he holds information that could sway the results of the case. The Juror #2 cast also includes Toni Collette, J. K. Simmons, Chris Messina, Zoey Deutch, Cedric Yarbrough, Gabriel Basso, Leslie Bibb, and Kiefer Sutherland. It is rumored that the movie will be the 94-year-old filmmaker's last.
A new report from Variety reveals that, at the time of writing, the Juror #2 release will be severely limited in spite of it potentially being Eastwood's final film and the fact that he has had a longtime collaboration with Warner Bros. that has lasted five decades. Warner Bros. currently has the movie set to play in a maximum of 50 theaters nationwide, with no plans to expand it...

Clint Eastwood has consistently directed feature films for over 50 years. He is now 94 years old, which could potentially make the soon-to-be-released Juror #2 his final movie. Given his illustrious legacy, both in front of and behind the camera, it’s somewhat puzzling that Warner Bros. seems to be burying Juror #2, which will reportedly be screened in less than 50 theaters.
Juror #2 will premiere at AFI Fest on October 27th, and Warner Bros. will give the film in limited release on November 1st. Given Eastwood’s decades-long partnership with the studio, not to mention the billions in box office grosses over that time, you’d think the studio would treat Eastwood’s potentially final movie with a little more respect. Well, according to Variety, this is the respectful approach for the studio.
The film, which was produced on a budget in the mid-$30 million range, was originally conceived as a streaming release. Warner Bros.

AFI Fest, the longest-running film festival in Los Angeles, will cap off its 38th edition Sunday evening with the world premiere of Clint Eastwood’s “Juror #2” at the historic Tcl Chinese Theatre in Hollywood. Stars Nicholas Hoult, Toni Collette and Zoey Deutch will walk the red carpet, which marks the festival’s fourth world premiere of an Eastwood-directed feature. The courtroom drama is the filmmaker’s 40th directorial effort — and, given he’s 94 years old, it’s potentially his final one.
Four days later, Warner Bros. will give “Juror #2” a somewhat less distinguished treatment. The studio is putting out the feature in a limited release of less than 50 theaters, according to two sources with knowledge of the film’s distribution, with no current plans to expand to more locations in the following weeks.
While exact location counts are still being finalized, as it stands one week from opening day,...

Just when you think that courtroom films can't come more twisted than Pauly Shore's Jury Duty, Clint Eastwood saunters into town with a movie promising to flip the judicial process on its head, Juror No. 2. The term "veteran filmmaker" is thrown around pretty liberally these days, but there's no one in Hollywood it suits better than the 94-year-old superstar turned prolific director, Clint Eastwood.
To put it bluntly, whether he's acting or directing, Clint Eastwood is a living legend. Given his advanced age, every picture he makes could conceivably be his last. Thankfully, he's said on multiple occasions that he will continue to work until he quite literally physically can't any longer. After the somewhat lackluster reception of his last feature film, Cry Macho, reports suggest that Clint wanted to find one final project he believed in before riding off into the sunset with his head held high, begging the question: is Juror No.
