Paramount has released the trailer for “Freediver,” a documentary from director and writer Michael John Warren. The film, based on the GQ article “Secrets of the Deep” by Daniel Riley, will be available on digital Dec. 7, 2024.
After geopolitics forced him into exile, the world’s greatest living freediver, Alexey Molchanov, fights to reclaim his athletic glory and honor his iconic mother’s towering legacy by attempting the most dominant season in the history of the deadly sport. His near-suicidal quest to set five world records in under four months brings him to the farthest reaches of the globe and his mind, forcing him to reevaluate the very skills on which he has built his entire life. Watch the trailer below.
The trailer states, “The goal of competitive freediving is simple: Dive as deep as you can on a single breath…and come back up alive.” Molchanov reveals, “I’m very competitive.

With the arrival of the Paramount+ documentary miniseries “Lolla: The Story of Lollapalooza,” alt-rock fans who attended the era-defining Lollapalooza festival in its national heyday will experience a rush of nostalgia, and viewers from Gens Z and Alpha will see and hear what Gen X has been crowing about since 1991. That’s the year Perry Farrell created a touring farewell party for his Jane’s Addiction, invited still-new bands such as Nine Inch Nails and Ice T’s Body Count for the ride, and found a tribe of like-minded rebel youth enthralled with his tribal gathering.
Farrell and the series’ director, Emmy nominee Michael John Warren, spoke with Variety about the new documentary in separate interviews. Warren is more naturally prone to rhapsodize about Lollapalooza’s rich history than Farrell, who isn’t so nostalgically inclined and has his sights set very much on what he believes could happen under...

While Jonathan Groff's most famous relationship is arguably his longtime friendship with Lea Michele, the actor has also had some romantic partners that fans may or may not know about. Groff tends to lay low for the most part, but in HBO's 2022 "Spring Awakening: Those You've Known" documentary, he opened up about how starring alongside Michele in the Broadway musical helped him really come to terms with his sexuality.
"Lea and I, we were grasping onto each other, we were really in love," he explained. "Coming from a religious background surrounded by the Amish, I felt . . . ashamed of who I was. I guess I was also afraid that if people knew who I was, they wouldn't find what I was doing believable."
In the doc, Groff also explained how Michele helped him gain enough confidence to come out as gay, which he did in 2008, just one month after they both exited "Spring Awakening.

“It was really healing, actually, to come back together,” reveals Jonathan Groff of the reunion captured in “Spring Awakening: Those You’ve Known.” The HBO documentary chronicles the recent 15 year anniversary concert of the original Broadway cast of “Spring Awakening.” Groff serves as executive producer, but viewers also watch his emotions explode on screen as he dives back into the musical which made him a teenage star. Watch the exclusive video interview above.
One silver lining of the global pandemic is that it provided the opportunity to gather the original “Spring Awakening” cast for a one of a kind benefit concert. “Everyone’s schedules were wide open because of Covid,” describes Groff, “It was feeling like kind of a miracle that we were getting everyone together.” That cast includes likes of Lea Michele, Skylar Astin, John Gallagher Jr., Lauren Pritchard, Lilli Cooper and Gideon Glick; all of whom went on to...

In this documentary film the entire original team returns for a one-night benefit show during the full height of the pandemic. ‘Spring Awakening: Those You’ve Known,’ depicts the cultural importance of this revolutionary play and what it has ultimately meant for those involved, not only for their careers but for the role it has had in shaping who they are as individuals. This which went on to win multiple Tony awards and swept the nation by storm is significant for the subject matter and difficult topics that it covers in its form and content. With movie theaters fully back up and running, HBO Max no longer has any major film releases to point to with its list of new releases for May 2022. That’s alright though as the streamer is leaning into the HBO side of its branding to offer up some fun TV releases.
The biggest HBO Max original this month is undoubtedly the return of Hacks on May 12. The first season of this comedy starred Jean Smart as a venerated Vegas comedy and Hannah Einbinder as her new millennial assistant. The first batch of episodes was excellent and even won an Emmy or two for its troubles and now season 2 will look to keep up the good vibes.

The internet was ablaze Monday with the news that Lea Michele once gave an anatomy lesson to her “Spring Awakening” and “Glee” co-star Jonathan Groff using a desk lamp.
The two close friends disclose the intimate story in the upcoming HBO documentary, “Spring Awakening: Those You’ve Known,” which revisits the groundbreaking musical through the lens of a 15th anniversary concert that reunited the entire cast, many of whom have gone on to have fruitful careers since the show — Tony nominee Lilli Cooper, “Pitch Perfect” star Skylar Astin and Krysta Rodriguez from “Smash” are among them.

I saw "Spring Awakening" on Broadway for the first time on December 5, 2007, just about a year after the off-Broadway production transferred to the Eugene O'Neill Theatre. Alongside a small group of girls, I was invited by a friend to celebrate her birthday at the show. And I had no idea when we took our seats that night that my life would be changed forever by what I was about to witness. Fifteen shows later over the course of two years, I had a pretty good idea. That's the level of passion Duncan Sheik and Steven Sater's coming-of-age rock musical set...
