Exclusive: Bunny Levine (Thelma), Dree Hemingway (Starlet), and Connie Shi (Law & Order) lead cast of Omi, a Jewish body possession comedy, which has wrapped filming in Los Angeles.

Making her feature directorial debut is Emily Lerer (Shameless), from a script by Adam Lebowitz-Lockard (The Shrink Next Door), who also stars as Matt, an impulsive millennial mensch who gets possessed by the spirit of his dead Yiddish grandma, Omi (Levine), after popping the question to his shiksa girlfriend, Christina (Hemingway). In order to pull off the Jewish exorcism of the century, Matt and Christina enlist the help of Rabbi Louise (Connie Shi) and friends (played by Jonathan Fishman and Dalia Rooni).

Rounding out the cast are Shane Paul McGhie (Deputy) as Troy, Brooks Wheelan (Saturday Night Live) as Brian, Tess Paras (Crazy Ex-Girlfriend) as Lauren, Morgana Shaw (Hit Man) as Ms. Walker, Paul Urcioli (Thanks For Sharing) as Boss, with Ken Lerner...

You know Michaela Watkins, right? She was on “Saturday Night Live” and was the star of “Casual” and “Enlightened.” You’ve heard her voice work on “Big Mouth” and “Robot Chicken,” and she was in indie gems like “In a World,” “Sword of Trust,” and “Thanks for Sharing.” You know her from somewhere.

“I get to work all the time, and nobody really knows who I am,” she recently told IndieWire. And, as Watkins makes clear, that’s no complaint. She’s got a great acting career, one that started quite late by Hollywood standards. IFC has dropped the trailer and art for its upcoming comedy “Paint,” and leading man Owen Wilson goes full-on Bob Ross mode in it.

The film stars Wilson as Carl Nagyl, Vermont’s top TV painter who has everything going for him, from a fanbase to a van and even a perm, until a younger artist takes his spotlight. Nagyl is reminiscent of beloved TV icon Bob Ross, who led PBS’ instructional TV program “The Joy of Painting” from 1983 to 1994. He passed away in 1995 at 52 years old.

Wilson leads the film, having been previously featured in “Zoolander,” “The Royal Tenenbaums,” “Bottle Rocket,” “Loki” and “The French Dispatch.” The actor also has the upcoming film “Haunted Mansion” on his docket with Jamie Lee Curtis, Jared Leto and Winona Ryder.

Joining the Oscar-nominated star, the “Paint” cast includes Michaela Watkins, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Ciara Renée, Lusia Strus, Stephen Root and newcomer Lucy Freyer.

February ushers in a new slate of movies and TV shows making their way to HBO and HBO Max, from a slew of James Bond movies to the recently released Olivia Colman-led “Empire of Light” to, yes, the Puppy Bowl.

“The Terminator,” “Catch Me If You Can,” “Footloose,” “Taxi Driver” and “The Silence of the Lambs” all mark notable library offerings this month, in addition to “Superbad,” “Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance)” and “Eighth Grade.”

Despite HBO Max pulling a number of originals from its roster over the past several months, HBO Max originals premiering on the platform this month include a Dionne Warwick documentary, an adult European animated series titled “Poor Devil” and “Harley Quinn: A Very Problematic Valentine’s Day Special” based on the popular animated series.

Harley Quinn: A Very Problematic Valentine’s Day Special premieres on Feb. 9 and finds Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy celebrating their first Valentine’s Day together. Consider this a fun little aperitif for the fast approaching Harley Quinn season 3 – which will feature none other than freshly-installed DC czar James Gunn. Other HBO Max original series this month include another C.B. Strike special on Feb. 6 and Spanish-language animated comedy Poor Devil a.k.a. Pobre Diablo on Feb. 17.

The selection of titles for HBO Max in February 2023 will include the continuation of hit TV shows, premieres of holiday specials, and Oscar nominees. HBO Max’s January 2023 additions kicked off the new year with the premieres of TV shows like The Last of Us, which broke HBO records for having the highest jump in viewership for its second episode, and the original series Velma. The month also brought The Menu (2022) and the John Wick franchise to the platform’s library, with plenty more classic films and new releases set to drop on HBO Max in February.

Okieriete Onaodowan will play the title role in the upcoming AMC sci-fi comedy series “Demascus.”

The six-episode, half-hour series follows Demascus, a 33-year-old Black man who goes on a journey of self-discovery by delving into the world of digital psychiatry and using an innovative new technology that allows him to experience different versions of his own life.

Onaodowan is best known for starring as Dean Miller in the ABC drama and “Grey’s Anatomy” spinoff “Station 19,” as well as playing James Madison and Hercules Mulligan in the original Broadway cast of “Hamilton.” He also played Afrika Bambaataa in Netflix’s “The Get Down” and Anthony in HBO’s “Ballers,” along with voicing Timbourine Toucan in “Tuca and Bertie” and multiple roles in “Robot Chicken,” which both air on Adult Swim. On the film side, Onaodowan’s credits include “A Quiet Place Part II,” “Person to Person” and “Thanks for Sharing.

The “Dead Ringers” series at Amazon has added both Jennifer Ehle and Emily Meade in recurring roles, Variety has learned.

They join previously announced series lead Rachel Weisz as well as cast members Michael Chernus, Poppy Liu, Britne Oldford and Jeremy Shamos.

The series was announced at the streaming service in August 2020 with a straight-to-series order. It is a modern update of the 1988 David Cronenberg film of the same name. The series version will see Weisz playing the double lead role of Elliot and Beverly Mantle, twins who share everything: drugs, lovers, and an unapologetic desire to do whatever it takes, including pushing the boundaries on medical ethics in an effort to challenge antiquated practices and bring women’s healthcare to the forefront.

October is here and you know what that means: time for the streaming services to put their spookiest foot forward. Amazon is doing its part for its new releases in October 2020 by rolling out some horror originals and library titles.

This is the month that the much-hyped Blumhouse horror anthology series Welcome to the Blumhouse arrives. “Episodes” of that, Black Box and The Lie launch on Oct. 6 and Evil Eye and Nocturne arrive on Oct. 13. Another horror-adjacent release of note is Truth Seekers, a comedy-horror series from Nick Frost and Simon Pegg.

That’s about it for notable originals. Thankfully October 1 brings the usual burst of fascinating library movie titles. A Knights Tale, Spaceballs, and The Departed all debut on the first of the month. Terminator: Dark Fate arrives on Oct. 9. The superb final season of Mr. Robot will be available on Oct. 6. Start playing Pixies “Where is My Mind?...

Hulu is out with its list of everything new coming and everything leaving the streaming service in the month of October.

Highlights include seasons four and seven of “90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days,” Season 8 of “My 600-lb Life” featuring the late star Coliesa McMillian, and a bunch of cooking shows including seasons nine and 10 of “Bizarre Foods With Andrew Zimmern,” Season 13 of “Cutthroat Kitchen” and Season 18 of “Hell’s Kitchen.” All of those come out Oct. 1.

For Halloween, catch the Hulu Original series “Monsterland” out Oct. 2.

On Oct. 14, catch the season premiere of “The Bachelorette” just one day after it airs on ABC.

Leaving Hulu on Oct. 31 are all five of the “Twilight” movies, “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” and “Footloose.”

As we head into the last week of September, let’s look ahead at what’s coming to Amazon Prime in October. It’s the usual mix of great newly-licensed titles arriving at the top of the month and a range of original movies and TV shows dropping throughout the upcoming weeks. But, what with it being spooky season, this time Prime’s October haul is specifically geared towards giving you some scares during Halloween.

For starters, horror fans will not want to miss the launch of Blumhouse’s “Welcome to the Blumhouse” series with four original films going up across October. The first duo, Black Box and The Lie, land on Prime on October 6th. Then, a week later on the 13th, both Evil Eye and Nocturne debut. Anything with Blumhouse behind it is usually worth checking out, so make sure not to miss those.

October 1st delivers a couple of vampire movies,...

October is officially spooky season and it’s nice to know that some streaming services (*cough*Disney+*cough*) are taking that responsibility very seriously.

For its new releases in October 2020, Hulu is premiering the Marvel TV universe’s first-ever outright horror series. Helstrom debuts on Oct. 16 and follows Marvel Comics character Daimon Helstrom as he struggles against all manner of demonic forces. Another spooky treat arriving this month is Monsterland on Oct. 2. This anthology will feature scary stories from around the country.

On the movie side of things, Hulu is bringing out Clive Barker adaptation Books of Blood on Oct. 7 and Bad Hair on Oct. 23. Thank you, Hulu, for your spooky service.

There are a lot of non-Hulu TV shows of note arriving in October as well. The final season of Homeland will be available to stream on Oct. 26. The premiere of Saturday Night Live‘s 46th season will arrive on Oct.

We’re now just over halfway through September, so let’s turn our attention to what’s coming to Hulu next month. Every October, the streaming service celebrates “Huluween” by adding a bunch of new Halloween-themed content. And this year is no different, with countless classic movies going up on the site that you’ll want to check out to get you in the spooky mood as well as a few notable originals.

These include anthology series Monsterland (October 2nd) and horror comedy film Bad Hair (October 23rd), starring Lena Waithe, Vanessa Williams and Laverne Cox, from Dear White People director Justin Simien. Superhero fans will also want to catch supernatural-themed Marvel series Helstrom (October 16th). The final production from Marvel Television, it’s sadly already doomed to just the one season.

It’s been 10 years since “The Kids Are All Right,” a queer family dramedy that was the darling of that year’s Sundance Film Festival, charted an unlikely ride to the Oscars and helped shift popular opinion about gay marriage.

Written by Lisa Cholodenko and Stuart Blumberg, and directed by Cholodenko, the movie arrived as attitudes about gay rights were shifting dramatically. Annette Bening and Julianne Moore starred as a couple whose long marriage had grown stale, further strained by an emptying nest. As their eldest child prepares to leave for college, she hatches a plan with her teen brother to meet their biological father, an Echo Park-dwelling free spirit played by Mark Ruffalo. Tensions escalate as Moore and Ruffalo embark on a secret affair, the kids launch into full rebellion, and Bening unravels with boozy abandon.

As Marvel Studios delay the reveal of the Avengers 4 title beyond all sense, many different candidates have made their way onto fan forums and social media, and some suggestions are better than others.

For one example, you might remember earlier this year when Avengers: Endgame was briefly considered and dismissed in light of co-director Joe Russo’s statement that the sequel’s subtitle wouldn’t be taken from a line of dialogue in Avengers: Infinity War. More recently, Avengers: Annihilation has been deemed a frontrunner by some, though it’s had some competition in The Last Avenger, a title that Mark Ruffalo famously blurted out on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

The debates will likely continue for a while longer, and some fans are understandably feeling a little exasperated or worn out by the build-up. Consequently, a few Twitter users have offered some tongue-in-cheek ideas for what next year’s movie could be called,...

Emmy winners Jeff Daniels (“The Newsroom”) and Alec Baldwin (“30 Rock”) head up the new Hulu original series “The Looming Tower,” which chronicles the rise of Osama Bin-Laden. Also featured in this docudrama about the inter-agency rivalry between the CIA and FBI in the first part of this century are Golden Globe nominees Peter Sarsgaard and Michael Stuhlbarg. The first of the 10 episodes starts streaming on Hulu on Feb. 28.

Before then, Hulu viewers will get a chance to see another acclaimed docudrama, the film “Detroit” by Oscar-winning director Kathryn Bigelow (“The Hurt Locker”). She reteamed with screenwriter Mark Boal, who also picked up an Oscar for “The Hurt Locker,” for this acclaimed film. “Detroit” documents the riots that beset the motor city in the summer of 1967 after the police raid an unlicensed bar on July 23 and arrest the 82 patrons and staff. Over the course of just five days, 43 people died...

Conrad Brooks, star of Plan 9 from Outer Space, has passed away. Brooks was 86-years-old and his cause of death has not yet been announced. Reports of his death have been circulating on social media and several outlets have reported on his passing, though, no official obituary has been released. Neither his family or representatives have released a statement regarding Brooks' passing yet.

With a career dating back to 1953, in an uncredited role in William Beaudine's Jalopy, Conrad Brooks had a career that spanned more than six decades. The late actor was known best for his relationship with director Ed Wood, who directed legendary B-movies such as Plan 9 From Outer Space and Bride of the Monster. Jerry Williams, who worked with Brooks several times over the years, had this to say in an Instagram post.

"Rip Conrad Brooks...plan 9 from outer space alum and you starred in several of my films.

As tributes to the late Hugh Hefner continue, Jenny McCarthy was overcome with emotion today remembering her time with the late Playboy founder.

"It's a sad morning for me," she began on her SiriusXM radio show, Dirty, Sexy, Funny With Jenny McCarthy, on Thursday. 

She credited the opportunity to model for Playboy for kickstarting her career and allowing her to work side by side with Hefner.

"It gave me on-camera experience, so by the time I auditioned for MTV, I was able to get that job," she said. "And through the numerous covers I did after that or the specials that I would host with Hef, I'll never forget."

Jenny McCarthy broke into tears Thursday morning as she reflected on the life of Playboy founder and publisher Hugh Hefner — whom she claims “made me who I am today.”

Addiction has long been one of Hollywood’s favorite muses. It makes for empowering, emotionally charged films about one of life’s most trying personal battles. Self-destruction has been a popular cinematic theme since the silent era. One of the first examples being Charlie Chaplin’s The Cure from 1917, a film about a drunk who goes to a spa hoping to cure his addiction. Almost 100 years later, the most recent contribution to this popular narrative is Krisha, Trey Edward Shults’s first feature film. The film stems from Shults’s short film released the year prior titled Krisha, and, spanning over a single day, tells the story of a woman returning home after having disappeared for a number of years.

Update: Turns out the students are not dressed as members of the Night's Watch! Gambii Kay emailed me to say that the cloaks these students are wearing are actually part of a long rooted tradition called praxe. Essentially, wearing this cloak symbolizes a badge of pride and was actually Jk Rowling's inspiration for the robes worn by Hogwarts students! Thanks for sharing!

A group of Portuguese students decided to dress up as members of the Night's Watch and perform the Game of Thrones theme on classical guitars! The result is pretty incredible. While it is a legitimate cover, there are some pretty goofy moments in this video that made me laugh! What the hell was with that resurrection scene?! Great work, Grupo de Fados do Isep!

Amy Schumer picked up a copy of Glamour and saw she was in the magazine -- which may sound good in theory, but it was apparently dedicated to "plus size" women, and she was not happy to be included. Why? Because of her own size, and the message she feels it sends to other women and girls.

The "Trainwreck" and Comedy Central star shared an Instagram post on the subject, which was met with some interesting comments, some agreeing with her point and others challenging it.

Sleeping With Other People is a forgettable, by-the-numbers romantic comedy that relies on tiresome clichés and unfunny sex jokes. The newest from writer/director Leslye Headland opens at Columbia University in 2002 where students Jake (Jason Sudeikis) and Lainey (Alison Brie) lose their virginity to each other one night. Jump ahead 13 years and horndog Jake is reintroduced having an angry confrontation with his current girlfriend over his serial inability to stay committed. Meanwhile, Lainey is having an affair with Matt Sovochek (Adam Scott), now a gynecologist married to pregnant Emma (Katherine Waterston). After over a decade of not having contact with one another, Jake and Lainey reconnect at a sex addiction support group meetings. They suddenly become platonic best friends, venting their frustrations over their sexual and romantic lives while falling for each other in the process.

UK film arm of European distributor withdraws from theatrical.

Two years after entering the competitive UK distribution space with an ambition to theatrically release 25 films per year, the UK film arm of European distributor Koch Media is to withdraw from theatrical.

Koch Media UK will instead focus on home entertainment releasing and look to consolidate its mainstay of video game distribution.

The transition will see some staff leave the company and others move across to the home entertainment department.

As part of the restructure, Koch UK will relocate its film distribution team to new company headquarters in Reading, where they will be joined by employees from the company’s Hampshire branch, which concentrates on video games.

Koch Media MD for Northern Europe Craig McNicol explained the strategy to ScreenDaily: “Our observation of the UK theatrical market has been that over the last couple of years there has clearly been a paradigm shift.

Warner Bros. and Boyhood director Richard Linklater have parted ways on the studio’s planned remake of The Incredible Mr. Limpet, despite the helmer having been attached to the project since 2011. Apparently, Warner Bros. eventually realized that Linklater’s schedule would not allow production on the film to commence in a timely fashion, and it wants to get The Incredible Mr. Limpet into theaters sooner rather than later.

Other directors have been approached by the studio, but no names have been dropped in association with the remake just yet. Like the 1964 family film, this take on the novel by Theodore Pratt will also focus on a man who is transformed into a fish. However, the story will no longer take place during World War II. This time around, The Incredible Mr. Limpet will find the title character as a beach bum and conservationist who is devoted to saving the fish population around his town.

Something I didn’t realise was happening is that Netflix UK and Ireland actually has a blog and what they have been doing on the rare update is providing information on which ISP’s are actually providing the fastest service. For the last couple of months the top two have always been Virgin and BT with BT coming out on top.
