The Indian film, which gained acclaim at the Toronto, London, Palm Springs and Red Sea fests in 2024, will see a multi-territory release across India, U.S., U.K., U.A.E., Australia and New Zealand before landing on Prime Video.

Helmed by acclaimed filmmaker Reema Kagti and penned by Varun Grover, the pic tells the true story of Nasir Shaikh, an amateur filmmaker from the small Maharashtra town of Malegaon. The narrative follows Shaikh’s journey as he rallies his friends to create homegrown cinema for their community, offering a glimpse into how grassroots filmmaking can transform a small town’s spirit.

Amazon MGM Studios and Excel Entertainment are taking their Indian streaming hit “Mirzapur” to theaters, marking a significant move in the Indian entertainment landscape.

The film adaptation of the Prime Video crime thriller series, which explores power dynamics and the criminal underworld in the heartland of northern India, is set to debut in 2026, with series creator Puneet Krishna at the helm, and Gurmmeet Singh, who has previously directed 17 episodes of the series, set to direct. This adaptation represents one of the first instances of an Indian streaming series making the transition to a theatrical release.

The theatrical venture will feature the return of the show’s principal cast, including Pankaj Tripathi as Kaleen Bhaiya, Ali Fazal as Guddu Pandit, and Divyenndu as Munna Tripathi. Abhishek Banerjee is also confirmed to reprise his role as the Compounder.

Following the theatrical window, the film will stream on Prime Video across 240 territories after an eight-week exclusivity period.

Reema along with her frequent collaborator Zoya Akhtar attended Prime Video’s slate announcement event, ‘Prime Video Presents’ on Tuesday.

The two are bringing the documentary series ‘In Transit’, which brings stories of the LGBTQ+ community to the fore.

Reema told the media at the event: “You can’t write real people, you have to find them. ‘In Transit’ has been a journey of exploring such real people and sharing their stories.”

Zoya said: “We share our space with so many people. We have explored such characters in fiction. With ‘In Transit’ we wanted to bring their real stories to the forefront, stories about their courage, their resilience and their joy.”

Bollywood star Sonakshi Sinha is all praise for her director Sanjay Leela Bhansali, whose anticipated magnum opus series “Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar” is due on Netflix this year.

Netflix describes the series as “an epic saga of love, power, revenge and freedom.” With a cast that also includes Manisha Koirala, Aditi Rao Hydari, Sharmin Segal, Richa Chadha, and Sanjeeda Sheikh, the series is set in the midst of multiple power struggles in Heeramandi, Lahore (now part of Pakistan) and more generally in undivided, pre-independence India, where anti-colonial freedom movements were emerging.

Mumbai, July 12 (Ians) Actor Vijay Varma, who is basking in the success of his recent releases such as ‘Darlings’, ‘Dahaad’ and ‘Lust Stories 2’, is set to step into the shoes of a newly-recruited cop for his upcoming streaming release ‘Kaalkoot’.

The promo for the crime drama was unveiled on Wednesday, which shows Vijay as a cop battling social challenges and marital pressure. He constantly faces bullying and pressure from his superiors while also dealing with the expectations from his mother and society to get married.

However, the world around them is filled with dark secrets, as hinted in the first look that ends with the revelation that the girl chosen for him by his mother is portrayed by Shweta Tripathi.

Directed by Sumit Saxena, ‘Kaalkoot’ is set to stream on Jio Cinema from July 27.
