David Leitch could soon be sailing into the Ocean's franchise waters; the fan-favorite action director is reportedly in early talks to helm Ocean's 14. The upcoming feature will mark the first of the franchise films starring Brad Pitt and George Clooney that Steven Soderbergh will not direct. Clooney will also be involved in Ocean's 14, reprising his role as Danny Ocean and serving as a producer.
It's an exciting development for fans of Leitch's work and the series itself, given his previous work directing mega-action flicks like John Wick, Atomic Blonde, Deadpool 2, and Fall Guy, starring Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt. That last one was a particularly personal one for the director, given his time working as a stuntman (often with Pitt) before becoming a director. He also directed the raucous Bullet Train, which starred Pitt as the unlucky assassin Ladybug. Pitt, though not officially confirmed, is expected...

Some anime couples are just so farfetched that they're laughable. But somehow, the couples' incongruous natures and predicaments work together to make a compelling, or at least entertaining, love story. Sometimes the couples are such a disaster that even if the audience knows it's a dumpster-fire, they just can't look away.
Just because an anime couple may never work in real life doesn't mean it doesn't make a great story. Some off-beat anime may be incredibly unlikely, but their romance has a certain charm. They may be hokey in every other story, but sometimes the perfect elements converge to make a silly premise entirely watchable.

Atomic Blonde 2 is, in a surprise reveal, a thing that’s happening… on Netflix, no less.
Charlize Theron, whose Netflix sci-fi action thriller, The Old Guard, just arrived on July 10, has revealed plans in an interview with Total Film to field another action offering for the streaming giant. However, rather than immediately following up that film, said offering will be a sequel to Atomic Blonde, the stylish Theron-headlined 2017 late-Cold-War spy thriller. Indeed, while there’s no news to cite for The Old Guard 2, Theron does reveal that she successfully pitched the once-mooted Atomic Blonde sequel—having also served as a producer on the original film—to Netflix through Scott Stuber, Head of Original Films.
“We went into [The Old Guard] talking about [a sequel] as a possibility, and it’s definitely something that excites us,” she explains. “We took [Atomic Blonde 2] to them and Scott Stuber, was really interested in it.

Bouncing back from disappointment over his Daredevil pitch and abortive attempt to remake Death Wish, Joe Carnahan has been throwing himself into working on the pilot for TV drama Those Who Kill. Now, in addition to several other bubbling big screen projects, he’s in talks to tackle Sugar Bandits for Universal. The script, written by The Town/The Strain’s Chuck Hogan and based on his novel Devils In Exile, deals with an Iraq War veteran named Neal Maven who returns from the conflict with little hope of a good job or a satisfying future. He and a group of fellow soldiers decide to team up and rip-off the ill-gotten gains of some local drug dealers, which naturally puts them in real danger. Oh, and he’s also sleeping with his employer’s girlfriend. This sounds like something Carnahan can really tear into, and makes us hopeful he’ll...

"Papa" Joe Carnahan has faced a weird, long road since he released the critically-acclaimed drama The Grey back in January of last year. First there were his plans to direct a remake of Death Wish, but that fell apart because the filmmaker didn't want to cast Bruce Willis in the lead role. Then there were his plans to reboot the Marvel Comics character Daredevil at 20th Century Fox, but that project couldn't get together fast enough and the rights to the man without fear reverted back to Marvel Studios. We've also heard stories about Stretch with Patrick Wilson, the action flick Continue, and the adaptation of Undying Love, but it's been hard to say exactly what direction he was heading. And today yet another movie has entered the picture. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Carnahan is close to signing yet another deal, this time to direct an adaptation of the...

After his failed attempt to adapt "Daredevil," director Joe Carnahan is aiming to get another comic book adaptation under his belt.
"The Grey" helmer is reportedly in talks to direct an adaptation of "Undying Love," Deadline has learned. The graphic novel, which was written and illustrated by Tomm Coker and Daniel Freedman, tells the story of two lovers, an ex-soldier named John Sargent and a Chinese vampire named Mei. Sargent goes on a journey to kill the vampire who made Mei in order to free her from her curse.
This might not be Carnahan's next project, as he's already working on "Nemesis" and a remake of "Death Wish." However, it is exciting to know that Carnahan hasn't given up on the comic book movie genre after missing out on the "Daredevil" remake.
Meanwhile, Carnahan has revealed who his dream actor to play Daredevil in his planned remake would have been.

With the Twilight series finally ‘over and done’, there’s only one thing left – to be patient for a little while, until the last film leaves the theaters.
Albeit a great moment for many people, there are some out there simply can’t make it through a year without knowing they have some sleazy vampiric love stories/triangles to help them along. Luckily for them, Warner Bros. and director Joe Carnahan are setting up to bring an adaptation of Undying Love to the big screen, and hopefully, make it tolerable for the rest of us.
After the talk about Alexandre Aja getting the directing chair from this past March followed by the silent bubble, it is a bit unclear how and when it went to Carnahan but hey, Undying Love is an Image Comics miniseries created by Tomm Coker and Daniel Freedman. What do you do when you’ve made a movie about killing wolves? You follow-it up with one about killing vampires, of course. According to Deadline Hollywood, Joe Carnahan has proven he’s neither on Team Edward nor Team Jacob by negotiating to direct Undying Love over at Warners. Taken from the Tomm Coker and Daniel Freedman graphic novel, the story follows a badass who falls in love with a vampire, but has to badass his way to the monstrous heart of Hong Kong to go all badass on her creator – who happens to be protected by a ton of mobsters. Probably badasses. It legitimately sounds like the kind of movie that has everything – romance, action, adventure, danger, thrills, spills, exotic locales, vampire mobsters, interspecies sex, and true love. Usually with news like this, the big question of whether the world needs another vampire story jumps to the forefront, but you know what? It...

A-Team and The Grey director Joe Carnahan is attached to write and direct the big screen adaptation of the vampire comic book Undying Love for Warner Bros. The comic was published in 2011 and created by Tomm Coker and Daniel Freedman, who also previously wrote a draft of the script when Piranha 3D director Alexandre Aja was attached to direct the movie. Obviously he was never able to move it into production. I think Carnahan is a better director anyway, and I think this will be a great project for him to work on. It's definitely different from anything he's worked on before.

Earlier this year, we got word that Piranha 3D director Alexandre Aja would be at the helm of Undying Love, a big screen take on the Image Comic of the same name that comic writers Tomm Coker and Daniel Freedman have adapted themselves for a feature film. The story follows an ex-soldier who falls in love with a vampire, but in order to be with her, he must take on her creator, who is protected by an army of monsters in the Hong Kong underworld. However, it sounds like Aja is no longer involved on the project, and Deadline's report pegs A-Team and The Grey director Joe Carnahan as the man to take over the job now. But the path to true love – or at least some sexy times – is fraught with peril as she turns out to be a member of the fang club.Undaunted by her vampiric ways, our hero journeys to the Hong Kong underworld to take on an army of undead beasts and slay the bloodsucker who sired her so she can be free. The original deal allowed Coker and Freedman to take first whack at the script, which then attracted the attention of Alexandre Aja. Now that he’s lost out on directing a reboot of “Daredevil”, Joe Carnahan is setting his sights on the comic book horror title “Undying Love” instead. Well, calling this “horror” is a bit deceptive. Sure, it has vampires, but so do the “Twilight” movies, and they aren’t really horror, are they? Likewise with “Undying Love”, which is more of an action movie that just happens to have vampires, sort of like the “Underworld” films. Carnahan, who last helmed the survival flick “The Grey” with Liam Neeson, has signed on to write and direct a big-screen version of “Undying Love”, to be based on the comic book series by Tomm Coker. The title follows a Special Forces soldier who falls for a pretty female vampire (are there any other kind?), and takes it upon himself to save her. To do that, he’ll have to slay her creator — a...

Based on the graphic novel by Tomm Coker and Daniel Freedman, who also wrote the first draft of the script, the story centers around an ex-soldier who falls in love with a vampire, but in order to be with her he must take on her creator, who is protected by an army of monsters in the Hong Kong underworld. Well, we'll certainly say it's a different spin on the genre, and as long as it doesn't involve anyone named Edward or Bella, that can only be a good thing.

The high-concept vampire tale? Another one? Please no! But wait, this time we have The Grey helmer Joe Carnahan interested in the whole thing, maybe that news deserves our attention after all? Yeah, I thought so.
Here’s the thing then, Carnahan is apparently attached to both write and direct an adaptation of a graphic novel series created by Tomm Coker and Daniel Freedman, and titled Undying Love. Sounds promising?
Described as a horror-action tale, Undying Love combines vampire mythology and Chinese folklore, and is set in modern day Hong Kong.
It centers on an ex-soldier John Sargent who has fallen for a beautiful Chinese woman named Mei. The only thing keeping the star-crossed lovers apart: yeah, you already guess – she’s a vampire! To free Mei from the curse, Sargent sets out to destroy the vampire that made her. Another problem shows up: Mei was turned by one of...

In July 2011, Warner Bros. purchased film rights to Image Comics’ Undying Love. We haven’t heard much about the project since earlier this year, when Alexandre Aja (Piranha/The Hills Have Eyes remakes) was in negotiations to direct the film. However, it is now being reported that The Grey director Joe Carnahan is coming on board to write and direct the adaptation.
The original script was written by Undying Love‘s creators, Tomm Coker and Daniel Freedman, but it is not known how much of it will be changed now that Carnahan is coming on board. Here’s what he had to say about the project:
“I really took to it, and the metric I use is how fast I come up with ideas and an outline, and this brought about a bunch of ideas… It is a little out of my wheelhouse, taking place in China with mysticism and swordplay,...

It sounds like Joe Carnahan (The Grey) will take on writing and directing duties for an adaptation of Undying Love, a graphic novel series created by Tomm Coker and Daniel Freedman. The story centers on John Sargent, an ex-soldier who falls in love with a Chinese woman, only to find out that she's a vampire. The only way they can be together is if Sargent can defeat her incredibly powerful creator. We previously reported that Coker and Freedman were writing the script for Warner Bros., but Carnahan's deal would have him writing up another draft as well as directing. Hit the jump for more on this story, including a quote from Carnahan himself. Deadline reported that Carnahan was in talks to write and direct Undying Love for Warner Bros. Joe Carnahan is going to be a very busy man indeed. It was recently announced that he had begun work on the Nemesis screenplay with his brother, and he also has several other projects in the pipeline at Fox. It shouldn't come as any surprise to comic book fans that major Hollywood studios are busy snapping up rights to just about any graphic novel that they can get their hands on. With 2012 being the year of the superhero (thanks for that, "The Avengers," "The Amazing Spider-Man" and "The Dark Knight Rises"), the comic book medium continues to prove that it can make big bucks on the big screen as long as adaptations are done correctly.
The latest two projects to be picked up are "Lucid" and "Undying Love." Warner Bros has claimed both of them, which makes sense since it seems like their plans to adapt the DC Universe—much like Disney is with Marvel's—isn't panning out as well as the studio would have hoped. Sorry, "Green Lantern," you just didn't quite bring it all together for us.
However, both comic book series stand a bit outside the average moviegoer's spectrum of knowledge.

I know what you're thinking - "Ugh, another vampire movie?!" But hang on to your judgments for a second, because this one actually sounds pretty solid. Deadline reports Piranha 3D director Alexandre Aja is in negotiations to direct Undying Love, a Warner Bros. film based on the Image Comic of the same name. Comic writers Tomm Coker and Daniel Freedman have adapted their own book, which follows an ex-soldier who falls in love with a vampire, but in order to be with her, he must take on her creator, who is protected by an army of monsters in the Hong Kong underworld. Could this be the next Big Trouble in Little China? To answer my previous question, I don't think Undying Love will have quite the same amount of humor as Big Trouble in Little China. The comic's official website calls it a horror-action tale with equal parts vampire mythology...

I haven't read the comic, but I guess it has the potential of turning out to be good movie regardless of all of the vampire films that will eventually be released.

Last we heard concerning Tomm Coker and Daniel Freedman’s “Undying Love” comic book, it had been optioned by Warner Bros. to turn into a movie. The latest news on the comic’s movie adaptation finds the studio in negotiations with “Piranha” director Alexandre Aja to get behind the camera of the vampire story. Written and drawn by Coker and co-written by Freedman, “Undying Love” is the story of Sargent, an American commando who travels to Hong Kong with Mei, a beautiful Chinese vampire who he runs across during one of his missions. Instead of killing her like he should (she is a bloodsucker, after all), Sargent instead falls in love, and sets on a course to Hong Kong where he intends to kill the powerful vampire who sired Mei, thus releasing her of her vampiric curse. This, of course, pits Sargent against a legion of vampires, but our man is up to the task.
