We spoke with Danny Trejo leading up to the release of Seven Cemeteries, his uniquely comedic new Western film that features familiar faces like Efren Ramirez (Napoleon Dynamite) and Maria Canals-Barrera (Wizards of Waverly Place). It's a wild, supernatural ride as Trejo's lead antihero, Bruno, guides a ragtag undead posse to redemption. It's also just the kind of project for a likable badass like Trejo, who is perhaps best known for his awesome collaborations with filmmaker Robert Rodriguez, including his eponymous role in Robert Rodriguez's cult classic Machete franchise. Ever since the movie was released following the faux trailer's premiere during Grindhouse (2007), fans have been yearning for another Machete film.
There was talk of a potential sequel titled Machete Kills in Space, and Trejo confirmed to us that he's still interested in the idea. "I've got to get Robert to make Machete Kills in Space. I'll take Elon Musk with me!

Even at 80, Danny Trejo is tough to keep down. But that’s just what one provoker tried to do after a 4th of July event in Los Angeles last week. In a viral video, the actor is seen engaging in a scuffle after a water balloon was thrown at his head while he was in a convertible. Now, Trejo is explaining the situation further and expressing regret over his actions.
Speaking with TMZ, Danny Trejo stated, “I’m so sad that I behaved the way I behaved…I’m so sad that grown men gotta throw water balloons to enjoy a day.” He clarified why he even stepped out of the passenger seat and approach the crowd, adding, “I don’t think I would’ve even got out of the car if somebody hadn’t yelled, ‘It’s acid!’ That’s when I got panicked. When I got out of the car — boom!

Machete may not text but he do sequel. Director Robert Rodriguez has addressed claims by Machete himself, Danny Trejo, who said that he doubts Rodriguez even has the rights to make the threequel Machete Kills in Space.
First, some context. Trejo recently told Rob Zombie in Interview that he was under the impression that Rodriguez had sold the rights to Machete “to Russians or something,” thus halting the project permanently.
But Rodriguez quickly rebuked this, telling IndieWire that his old pal isn’t exactly up to date on his info. “I retain all the rights…We do plan to make another one, we just stopped saying that we are until we’re actually making it because of all the stories that come out saying, ‘They’re making it right now, they’re making it right now!’” With that, Rodriguez noted the connection he has to Machete, something no doubt shared by fans.

Turns out, Danny Trejo actually might be wielding a machete soon, as the eponymous franchise is still on track to be a trilogy. During a recent discussion with Rob Zombie for Interview magazine, the almost-80-year-old actor Trejo incorrectly stated that “Machete” and “Machete Kills” director Robert Rodriguez “sold part” of the franchise, and therefore it’s unlikely another will be made.
“God, I guess Robert [Rodriguez] screwed up and sold part of ‘Machete,'” Trejo said, “to Russians or something. Everyone always asks, ‘When are you doing “Machete Kills in Space?”‘” Director Zombie added that he’d love to see “Machete Kills in Space,” saying, “I thought for sure it was going to happen. It’s so ridiculous.”
However, Rodriguez exclusively told IndieWire that Trejo’s comments are thankfully “incorrect” and a third “Machete” film may still slice up cinemas soon.
“I retain all the rights,” Rodriguez told IndieWire in an email.

Warning: Spoilers for Spy Kids: Armageddon!Spy Kids: Armageddon has released on Netflix, but does series regular Danny Trejo return as Machete? The 2023 Netflix movie is the first film in the Spy Kids franchise in 12 years since 2011's Spy Kids: All the Time in the World, and as a result, the release focuses on a completely different family and a new pair of mischievous but genius spy kids. However, that leads to confusion over whether or not any of the original characters are returning, as Spy Kids: Armageddon is technically still in the same cinematic universe as the previous four movies.
Unfortunately, original Spy Kids actors Alexa Vega and Daryl Sabara are absent from the Spy Kids: Armageddon cast, and Antonio Banderas, Carla Gugino, and Alan Cumming are all lacking even small cameo roles in the new film. However, Danny Trejo's Machete had the best chance of returning, as Trejo...

Danny Trejo has played plenty of tough guys on screen, but could play a Mexican version of Keanu Reeves’ character John Wick? Well, AI has imagined it, and Trejo has shared the results with the simple pitch that he could become Juan Wick and kill off even more people than his career has allowed him to so far.
In the never-ending wave of AI art and trailers that are popping up on the internet, there are some that work and some that don’t. If it is good enough for Danny Trejo to share it though, then who is going to argue with that. The John Wickfranchise has been doing pretty well having just passed the $1 billion mark in its total box office gross across four movies, so why would Trejo not fancy his own piece of that.

Machete Kills director Robert Rodriguez had never planned to make the incredible looking cosmic sequel, Machete Kills in Space, hoping that the trailer would be enough to placate fans of the B-movie franchise. However, that is far from the way things turned out, with Machete advocates still asking for the interstellar adventures of Danny Trejo's titular anti-hero. Promisingly, this desire has not gone unnoticed by Rodriguez.
"We tried to make it in the trailer. We said: let's just make the trailer. That will satisfy people because they'll see enough of it in the trailer. They'll go, 'Okay I already saw that movie.' But no, they still keep asking anyway (laughs)!"
Released back in 2010, the first Machete follows Danny Trejo as a legendary ex-army veteran, who goes on a violent rampage against his former boss after an attempted assassination on his life while he himself was attempting to assassinate a Texas Senator.

It has now been a decade since the B-movie grindhouse flick Machete hit theaters, and headline star Danny Trejo is still being asked whether a proposed third movie, Machete Kills Again... in Space!, will ever happen. In a recent interview, the actor declared that, if it comes to it, he would be more than willing to write the movie himself just to see it get made.
"Machete, Machete Kills, if Robert would ever get off his ass, he'd write Machete Kills in Space! I might write it (laughs)."
After being asked whether he had discussed Machete Kills Again... In Space with Machete and Machete Kills director Robert Rodriguez, Trejo added, "You know I haven't spoken to Robert in a while. He's been really busy and I've been busy. Maybe I'll call him, see what's up. But I haven't talked to Robert for a while. He kind of dumped me I think.

We're closing in on six year's since we last got to see Danny Trejo as his ultimate alter ego Machete on the big screen. So far, there have been two movies and a couple of appearances in the Spy Kids sequels. We've long been promised a third movie with Machete Kills Again... in Space. But there hasn't been any apparent movement on that sci-fi action epic. Or has there?
Danny Trejo recently gave an update on the Machete franchise. And believe it or not, he claims Robert Rodriguez is still going to make this movie happen. He wants it, Danny wants it, and the fans certainly want it. Danny had this to say about the impending sequel.
"Robert's working on it, it's gonna be... unbelievably crazy."

If you saw Machete Kills in theaters, then you probably also saw that hilariously ridiculous trailer for something called Machete Kills Again…in Space. At the time, we thought that was all we were going to get of the supposed third installment of the Danny Trejo-led franchise, but the man himself has confirmed that this is in fact in the works. Yes, we will be seeing Machete going berserk…in space! Trejo told Halloween Daily News that he and Robert Rodriguez, his Machete director, will be filming Machete Kills in Space. (Apparently they thought the "Again…" part was unnecessary.) We won’t even have to wait too long for it, as he also said that they will be “working on it this year.” If Trejo can’t land a part in Star Wars: Episode 7, 8 and/or 9, he’ll ...
