Leslie Howard: A Quite Remarkable Life

This is an early version of the documentary later known as Leslie Howard: The Man Who Gave A Damn. Running 105mins (22 mins longer than the 2016 version, It was shown just once to an invited audience of 12 (including Leslie Howard's daughter) at the NFB in Toronto in September 2009. The film was briefly announced as screening on Turner Classic Movies in Dec of that year but was then deleted from the schedules. A few DVD-r copies of this version survive but are not available for viewing. The film underwent continual re-editing between 2010-2015, and was re-titled The Man Who Gave a Damn in 2010. Under this title and running 89 mins it a version was screened at Leslie Howard's former home in Sept 2011, again to an invited audience. BBC South reported on the screening and interviewed Hamilton and narrator Derek Partridge. However the funding to clear the film failed to materialize and this version has also never been screened again. The film was in limbo until Feb 2014 when Independent Producer Monty Montgomery contacted the film-maker and became Executive Producer.

It then underwent a radical new edit with the addition of many archive interviews as well as further filming, extensive re-writing of the narration and a specially composed music score. The end result is so distinct from A Quite Remarkable Life as to constitute a different film.
