Gravitas Ventures has acquired U.S. and Canadian rights to Konstantin Khudyakov’s “I’m Beginning To See the Light” from Hoody Films. Starring Jack Huston, Abbie Cornish, Brandon T. Jackson, Jamie Chung, Lucy Punch, and Mark Boone Junior, the film is set for digital and cable video on-demand release in May.

Set against a “hauntingly beautiful coastal backdrop,” “I’m Beginning to See the Light” stars Huston as Ezra, a jazz musician who seeking solace in a remote lighthouse after losing his family in an unexpected tragedy. Becoming the lighthouse’s new keeper, Ezra “encounters kindred lost souls, each grappling with their own pasts,” according to a press release. “Through music, memory, and human connection, he begins to find new meaning in life.”

“I’ve always wanted to make a film about jazz and how music has the potential to help a person overcome grief and rediscover meaning in life,” said director Konstantin Khudyakov.

Lower the lights, close the curtains, and leave one headphone halfway off your ear to detect outside noise because Rory Culkin and Paris Jackson will lead the 1990s-set softcore porn comedy Skinemax. The project comes from Adam Sigal, who directs Skinemax from a script he wrote. Production for Skinemax recently wrapped in Budapest, with the film sounding like it could deliver some blush-worthy laughs.

Skinemax focuses on the softcore porn industry in 1990. You know, the decade when adult film icons like Silvia Saint, Asia Carerra, Peter North, and Jack Napier were the kings and queens of fictitious bedroom gymnastics, and adolescents prayed for scrambled channels to display even a single private part long enough to feel as if they’d won the porn lottery. Yeah, that magical time. The film follows Morgan Sands (Culkin), a failing indie film director, and his unlikely friendship with Jessie Hudson (Jackson), a popular adult film star.

Exclusive: The Onyx Collective’s UnPrisoned is rounding out the Season 2 cast with Brandee Evans (P-Valley) in a recurring role, as well as Oliver Hudson (The Cleaning Lady) and Jamie Chung (Lovecraft Country) in guest starring roles. Exclusive: BET+ has ordered a New Orleans-set spinoff of Carl Weber’s The Family Business, with Brandon T. Jackson set to star.

He also will serve as an associate producer on the eight-episode series, which is set to begin production in March.

Based on Weber’s bestselling crime drama book series, which wrapped its fourth season in October 2022, The Family Business follows the Duncans, an upstanding, tight-knit family led by L.C. Duncan (Ernie Hudson) that by day owns and operates an exotic car dealership in New York. By night, their business activities are more illicit in nature.

In the spinoff, when the New Orleans side of the Duncan family gets caught in a vicious turf war with corrupt politicians, dirty land developers, and ruthless crime bosses all vying for the family’s underground casino and night club business, they call on their relatives from New York to help wield their own brand of justice.

When he is mistaken for the new lighthouse keeper, Ezra meets Hannah (Cornish), a local school teacher who, along with ethereal music, reignites his passion for life and imbues it with meaning.

Chung will play Sarah, the wife of Ezra and mother of their 10-year-old daughter. She loves Ezra but is angry at him for the time and energy that he pours into a career that no longer supports them. Jackson will play Sam, a bass guitarist who hasn’t recovered from being replaced in his band and losing his girlfriend.

Veteran Khudyakov has worked in the business since the early 1960’s, starting out as an actor before turning to directing. He has directed more than 20 films and a number of TV series, including 2017 period miniseries The Road To Calvary, which scored multiple awards in Russia, and was picked up by Netflix.
