John Goodman is recovering after being injured during the production of an upcoming, untitled Alejandro González Iñárritu movie for Warner Bros. and Legendary, starring Tom Cruise.
The actor “experienced a hip injury,” a Warner Bros. spokesperson said in a statement.
“He received immediate medical attention that led to a brief delay in shooting to allow him time to recover,” the statement continues. “The production resumes shooting next week following John’s full recovery.”
The film was not shooting when Goodman was injured.
The untitled movie, the first to emerge from Cruise’s new deal with Warner Bros. and the first English-language feature from Iñárritu since Leonardo DiCaprio starrer The Revenant nearly a decade ago, is set to hit theaters on Oct. 2, 2026, taking the release date originally occupied by the studio’s Batman sequel.

Those with even the most cursory knowledge of musical theater would be familiar with the work of Rodgers and Hammerstein; those with similar familiarity with Rodgers and Hart, on the other hand, would be fewer and further in between. And from that simple statement of fact builds Richard Linklater’s “Blue Moon,” a bittersweet biopic of sorts that premiered on Tuesday at the Berlin Film Festival. Pitched halfway between “Midnight in Paris” and “Inside Llewyn Davis,” Linklater’s proudly stagey old-showbiz hangout follows a man as he watches the world pass him by in real-time.
That man is lyricist Lorenz Hart — a titan of the American songbook whose influence can still be measured in show tunes and jazz standards, but whose name and reputation have receded further than his hairline in the eight decades since his death. And though “Blue Moon” opens with the drinking binge that directly resulted in Hart’s November 1943 passing,...

After a five-year journey from initial announcement to final production, Timothée Chalamet’s portrayal of Bob Dylan in “A Complete Unknown” has secured an Oscar nomination, transforming what once seemed like a troubled project into a critically acclaimed success.
The film, originally titled “Going Electric,” faced significant obstacles when the Covid-19 pandemic halted production in 2020. What initially appeared to be a setback ultimately became an opportunity for Chalamet to deeply immerse himself in the role of the legendary musician.
In a recent interview with W magazine, Chalamet revealed that the extended preparation time was unexpectedly beneficial. “I began to think the film was cursed,” he said, “but the five years it took to get the cast and movie together ended up being a good thing.”

Timothée Chalamet didn’t even know if “A Complete Unknown” would ever get made.
The actor, who is now Oscar-nominated for portraying Bob Dylan in the biopic, told W that he thought the film was “cursed” because of its production delays. The feature was originally titled “Going Electric,” and was adapted from Elijah Wald’s 2015 biography “Dylan Goes Electric.” Writer/director James Mangold announced the film in 2020 — a bad time to start production — and the feature was shelved amid the Covid-19 pandemic. It was released in 2024.
“Originally, I thought I had no time to prepare, but there were delays,” Chalamet said for W’s Directors Issue alongside his “Dune” auteur Denis Villeneuve and David Lynch’s original Paul Atreides, Kyle MacLachlan. “I began to think the film was cursed, but the five years it took to get the cast and movie finally together ended up being a good thing.”

Joeland Ethan Coenare responsible for so many all-time great classics that it’s easy to take them for granted. While most cinephiles are familiar with the brutal neo-Western No Country For Old Men, the darkly comedic mystery Fargo, the cult classic The Big Lebowski, and the soulful music drama Inside Llewyn Davis, some of their best films have fallen under the radar, including The Man Who Wasn’t There. While not a direct remake, The Man Who Wasn’t There is an homage to the film noir movement of the 1940s, and shares many tonal and stylistic similarities with classics like Double Indemnity, Mildred Pierce, and many thrillers directed by Alfred Hitchcock. Although the aesthetics alone make it worthy of a recommendation, The Man Who Wasn’t There ranks among the Coens’ best thanks to the amazing performance by Billy Bob Thornton.

Ryan Coogler is one of the most exciting filmmakers working today. He's the rare writer/director who actually managed to make the jump from doing small independent movies to tackling massive blockbuster franchises without losing his style. Quite the contrary, in an era where the pipeline of Sundance darling to pawn in a superhero or big franchise machine has all but ruined the future of many a once-promising filmmaker, Coogler gave us not one but two exciting creative-driven properties.
First, he revitalized the "Rocky" franchise with the phenomenal "Creed," one of the best movies of the century and a nuanced and thrilling exploration of nature and nurture, with boxing thrown in for good measure. Coogler's legacy sequel approach worked wonders, kickstarting a trilogy, allowing Sylvester Stallone to do his best work in the franchise, and making Michael B. Jordan a star.
Next, Coogler went even bigger with "Black Panther" and "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

It's been 12 years since Ryan Coogler made his startlingly assured feature filmmaking debut with "Fruitvale Station," but he still feels like an unknown quantity as an artist. We know from "Creed" and "Black Panther" that he's got a knack for imbuing franchise movies with uncommon heart, and no shortage of swagger when it comes to staging dynamite action set pieces. But due to circumstances beyond his control (the death of Chadwick Boseman and the Covid-19 pandemic), he's only made one movie over the last seven years. That's a lot of time for a still-young filmmaker (he's 38) to sit on the sidelines, especially one whose oeuvre is curiously light on original movies.
That's not a knock on Coogler at all. Christopher Nolan directed a remake ("Insomnia") and three Batman movies en route to becoming the most prominent and praised studio filmmaker on the planet, so Coogler is in excellent company. But...

From Fruitvale Station to Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Ryan Coogler has established himself as one of the most vital voices in filmmaking over the past 12 years, and now he's stepping into the world of horror with his latest film, Sinners. Ahead of the movie's April 18th release in theaters, Warner Bros. revealed a new trailer for Sinners that sinks its teeth into visceral scares and unveils the vampiric side of its chilling and emotional story.
Daily Dead recently took part in a virtual Sinners trailer preview event with Ryan Coogler hosted by Juju Green. During the insightful conversation about Sinners, Coogler discussed how this film is especially a personal project for him:
My maternal grandfather is from Mississippi. And my uncle James, who passed away while I was finishing up Creed, was also from Mississippi. And it was a place I had never been. My maternal grandfather passed before I was born.

It’s worth mourning the films we’ll never get to see: the unfunded epics, the unmarketable art films, perhaps even the unengaging streaming product. Filmmaker Charlie Shackleton faced that grief when his thoroughly researched project, a documentary on the Zodiac killer case, got the plug pulled after years in development. But the director’s vision was simply too comprehensive for the project to go unrealized. In the comically plainly titled “Zodiac Killer Project,” Shackleton explains how his film would’ve unfolded, speaking in a consolation-prize confessional.
The candid narrator, who is also a published film critic, emerges with more than just his regrets. The doc is also a playful evaluation of the true-crime content bubble and the genre’s full capitulation to copycatting itself.
Though Shackleton’s feature can’t legally cite its source material as the 2012 book “The Zodiac Killer Cover-up: The Silent Badge,” it is all but an official adaptation.

Carey Mulligan revealed at the Variety Studio presented by Audible at Sundance that she “just started” filming the second season of Netflix’s series “Beef.” The first season won Emmys for leading stars Steven Yeun and Ali Wong, so anticipation is high for the new episodes. The show’s second season will feature a new storyline and an entirely new cast, headlined by Mulligan, Oscar Isaac (with whom she starred in the Coen Bros.’ “Inside LLewyn Davis”), Charles Melton and Cailee Spaeny.
“We just started. Almost everything [is different],” Mulligan told Variety’s Tatiana Siegel when asked about the new season. “But it’s still [creator Lee Sung Jin] being brilliant. It’s a completely new story and if I say anything else then a laser beam will appear on my head. But it’s very exciting.”
Another project Mulligan can’t talk about is Emerald Fennell’s “Wuthering Heights,” starring Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi.

As much as Adam Driver's career has reached some impressive highs, it has been met with some notable lows. On the one hand, Driver has been a part of some major moneymakers over the past decade. All three of his Star Wars movies made over $1 billion, with Star Wars: The Force Awakens making just shy of $2.1 billion. On the other hand, however, Driver has played roles in films that have lost boatloads of money. Most infamously, he played the lead in Francis Ford Coppola's Megalopolis, which made a mere $13.8 million on an $120 million budget.
The same disparity applies to the critical reception of Driver's films as well. The actor has been a part of indie darlings like Frances Ha and Inside Llewyn Davis that have earned Certified Fresh Rotten Tomatoes scores of over 90%. His work has been praised in similarly high-scoring movies like Paterson and Marriage Story. On the other hand,...

Miller's Crossing, one of the greatest gangster movies ever made, is an extremely underrated movie created by The Coen Brothers. As one of the best directing duos of all time, The Coen Brothers have directed classic films such as The Big Lebowski, Inside Llewyn Davis, Fargo, and No Country for Old Men. Joel and Ethan Coen have directed a total of 20 films together beginning with the 1984 neo-noir crime film Blood Simple.
Following their feature film debut, the Coen Brothers' sophomore effort was the 1987 crime comedy Raising Arizona, which remains one of Nicolas Cage's most iconic roles. They then went on to direct the showbiz comedy Barton Fink, the satirical comedy O Brother, Where Art Thou?, the black comedy Burn After Reading, and the instant classic Western True Grit. The Coen Brothers' last joint effort was 2018's The Ballad of Buster Scruggs.

Adam Driver has had an idiosyncratic career. He is simultaneously a beloved independent film actor who has also taken on controversial mainstream roles. Perhaps his most ire-inspiring role was playing Kylo Ren in the newer Star Wars movie, whose last installment, Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker, dismayed many fans. At the same time, however, Driver is a scene-stealer in movies like Inside Llewyn Davis and Frances Ha, which came out before his foray into a galaxy far, far away.
Driver's films have also gained notoriety in meme culture, and this year is no exception. The actor led the ensemble of Francis Ford Coppola's Megalopolis, a dystopian sci-fi fantasy romp that was met with divisive responses. While some critics appreciated his performance, lines from the film, especially his delivery of "go back to the club." Growing up, it was impossible not to hear Bob Dylan’s music. ‘Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door,’ ‘ Hurricane,’ and ‘The Times They Are A-Changin’ all had an incredible influence for decades. And this year, James Mangold, who brought Johnny Cash to life with Walk the Line, now sets his sights on Dylan with A Complete Unknown (read our review). The film stars Timothee Chalamet as Dylan in a fantastic performance. The rest of the cast shines brightly as well. You have Edward Norton as Pete Seegar, Elle Fanning as Sylvie Russo, Monica Barbaro as Joan Baez, and the terrific Boyd Holbrook as Johnny Cash. Considering all the actors do their own singing, it’s nice to see the care that went into exploring this legendary musician’s life.

The enigmatic, elusive genius of The Bard, Bob Dylan, has long fascinated the world, not at least filmmakers, D.A. Pennebaker, Martin Scorsese, Todd Haynes, John Hillcoat, and even the Coen Brothers. The Bob Dylan Cinematic Universe is a-changing. Dozens of films about the legendary singer-songwriter already exist — including two documentaries by Martin Scorsese, the experimental 2007 drama I’m Not There from Todd Haynes (which saw no fewer than six actors take on Dylan’s famous drawl), and the bizarre 2003 drama Masked And Anonymous, in which Dylan played a version of himself and served as co-scribe, writing under the pseudonym ‘Sergei Petrov’.
There have been many, many ballads of this thin man. This latest effort comes from James Mangold, the filmmaker whose 2005 Johnny Cash film Walk The Line inspired the music biopic parody Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story, the standard by which all music biopics must now be judged. To its credit, A Complete Unknown deftly avoids such clichés.

How Did Timothee Chalamet Change Oscar Isaac’s Mind About His Bob Dylan Role In A Complete Unknown? (Photo Credit – Facebook)
Oscar Isaac admitted that he initially questioned the casting of Timothée Chalamet as Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown. The biopic is directed by James Mangold and based on a 2015 book by Elijah Wald. However, Isaac acknowledges he may have been mistaken in his initial judgment.

At the Gotham Awards last weekend, Timothée Chalamet called the five years he’s spent prepping to play Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown “the greatest education a young artist could receive.”
Chalamet’s Dune co-star Oscar Isaac put the stakes of the performance more succinctly.
“I mean it’s Dylan — the Holy of Holies,” Isaac said at the Gothams. Isaac is not unfamiliar with the terrain, having played a Dylan-adjacent folk singer in the Coen Brothers’ Inside Llewyn Davis.
Now, the Holy of Holies himself has weighed in on Chalamet’s efforts in director James Mangold’s upcoming film.
In a post on X, Dylan offered a surprisingly positive but typically elliptical assessment.
“Timmy’s a brilliant actor so I’m sure he’s going to be completely believable as me. Or a younger me. Or some other me,” the Grammy, Oscar and Nobel Prize winner wrote.

James Mangold is following up his 2023 blockbuster Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny with a smaller but just as ambitious project: A Complete Unknown. The biopic, which centers around music icon Bob Dylan during the early days of his career, is already receiving awards season buzz in no small part thanks to the lead performances of Timothée Chalamet and Monica Barbaro, who play Bob Dylan and Joan Baez respectively. After his incredibly compelling role in Dune: Part Two, it's impressive to see the actor delivering yet another landmark performance in the same year.
However, for those who think Mangold's casting of Timothée Chalamet as the legendary folk singer is unconventional, his Dune co-star Oscar Isaac would agree. That is until he experienced Chalamet's creative process with the character firsthand. According to a report from Variety at the Gotham Awards, the Dune actor and some of his other Dune co-stars...

Oscar Isaac thought it was a bad idea for Timothée Chalamet to play Bob Dylan in “A Complete Unknown” until he heard him sing and play guitar on the set of “Dune.”
Isaac told the story at the Gotham Awards Monday night while presenting Chalamet and “A Complete Unknown” director James Mangold with the Visionary Tribute. Back during the filming of “Dune,” Chalamet told Isaac, Stephen McKinley Henderson, and Josh Brolin about the project, which tells the story of Dylan’s early years in the Greenwich Village folk scene. Isaac, a Dylan fan who starred in the definitive film about that folk scene, “Inside Llewyn Davis,” was skeptical.
“My first thought was… sounds like a really bad idea,” Isaac said. “I mean, it’s Dylan. It’s the holy of holies for me. It just didn’t sound right. Then, Timmy takes out his guitar. Not a good sign.”

The Coen Brothers have no shame in gut-punching audiences with sharp dismantling of characters or rude short-changing of narrative expectations, in ways that feel like a cinematic middle finger. While not an entirely unearned reputation, it willingly ignores the tender empathy the duo can extend to even the most audaciously unlikable of their characters, perhaps none more impervious than Llewyn Davis (Oscar Isaac) in Inside Llewyn Davis. On first watch, Llewyn Davis seems like miserable company, but on closer inspection, his story is a tough-love hug for someone clearly struggling with deep clinical depression that he has no way of confronting.

There is a legitimate argument to make that Joel and Ethan Coen are the most versatile filmmakers of their generation and possibly ever. There arent many other filmmakers that can claim responsibility for an all-time great crime thriller (No Country For Old Men), neo-noir (Fargo), music drama (Inside Llewyn Davis), western (True Grit), cult film (The Big Lebowski), and slapstick comedy (Raising Arizona). While it would take too long to name all of the essential attributes that make the Coen brothers so talented, they have a particular ability to analyze the flaws within their own industry. The Coen brothers offered a scathing depiction of writing in Hollywood in their dark comedy Barton Fink, of which Roger Ebert said in his review showed that there is a horror lurking underneath the affluent surface.

Decades never start quite on time, pop-culturally speaking, and it’s tempting to say that the Sixties didn’t really kick off until the Beatles played The Ed Sullivan Show in 1964, just as “Smells Like Teen Spirt” started the Nineties in 1991. But as David Browne’s new book, Talkin’ Greenwich Village: The Heady Rise and Slow Fall of America’s Bohemian Music Capital, suggests, the Sixties’ spirit really began in Greenwich Village, not Liverpool — and the music that really got it going was written by Bob Dylan. In June of 1963, Peter,...

Oscar Isaac lent his voice to the role of Spider-Man 2099 in Marvel's hit animated film Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, and new art sees the actor imagined in the role in live-action. Isaac has been a celebrated performer in Hollywood since breaking through as the title character in the Coen brothers' Inside Llewyn Davis. Since then, he has played major franchise roles such as Apocalypse in X-Men: Apocalypse and Poe Dameon in Star Wars. However, lending his voice to Miguel O'Hara might be his most interesting performance yet.
Some recently shared art by bluuclone was posted on Instagram, where the concept artist created a mockup for what the actor might have looked like in a live-action version of the role. Isaac's face looks perfect on this rendition of Miguel O'Hara, and the suit, too, feels like a perfect translation of what was seen in the animated film.

Each week we highlight the noteworthy titles that have recently hit streaming platforms in the United States. Check out this week’s selections below and past round-ups here.
Across the River and Into the Trees (Paula Ortiz)
Hemingway’s work across novels and short stories has been adapted for film countless times over, yet Across the River and Into the Trees has never properly been rendered onscreen. Until now. Written by Peter Flannery and directed by Paula Ortiz, here is a handsome film that is decidedly modest in its endeavor. The best thing going for it is Liev Schreiber as Colonel Richard Cantwell, the lead of the picture. Schreiber is one of those actors who has somehow always been underrated, despite being capable of playing nearly any kind of part. A kind boyfriend thrust into an impossible familial situation (The Daytrippers)? Check. Tough-but-fractured fixer living on the edge (Ray Donovan)? Check.

The life of a professional musician is seldom easy. Because of this, many films about musicians end up being rather tragic stories. Of course, that does not stop audiences from flocking to see them. Something about the trials and tribulations of those trying to find success in the music industry is endlessly alluring to viewers; perhaps because of the fascinating contrast between the glamour of achieving fame through music, and the near-impossible path to get there.
Whether they highlight musicians who skyrocketed to stardom but tragically died young, or gifted artists who never received the recognition they deserved, all of these films portray heartbreaking stories of those who merely sought to bring joy to the world through their songs. All of these films, whether true stories or fictional tales, are bound to break the hearts of audiences over and over again. As major releases continue to hit big screens, 2024 is shaping to be an important year for showbiz and the box-office. Countless conversations continue to cover pandemic recovery, nevertheless, Hollywood now has another pebble in its shoe – can it weather the aftermath of the 2023 Screen Actors Guild and Writers Guild of America strikes? So far, things seem to be picking up slowly, but not necessarily at the box-office.
Although the year has seen bright spots early on—like the success of Dune: Part Two—there have also been a slew of disappointments. While films like Madame Web and Furiosa managed to break even on the back of their production costs alone, they did ultimately become part of the financial disappointments when marketing expenses—which now run the risk of equalling the film’s production costs—are taken into account.

In a sense, Netflix really is the new Blockbuster Video (or Hollywood Video or whatever rental chain my fellow old people preferred to frequent). Once you marched past the rows stacked with endless copies of the latest release at your local Blockbuster, you could uncover films and TV shows that either flew under the radar or were deemed too scandalous for mainstream tastes. (Stumbling upon and being mildly traumatized by the grotesque cover artwork for horror B-movies was practically a rite of passage for folks of a certain age.) You don't get anywhere near the same range of choices on Netflix -- especially now that its library is increasingly composed of the service's originals -- but it does similarly allow certain older, somewhat forgotten titles to gain a new lease on life, however fleeting it may be.
Admittedly, it's easier to understand why certain movies or series abruptly crack Netflix's...

Adam Driver has taken on many diverse roles in films such as Lincoln (2012), Frances Ha (2012), Inside Llewyn Davis (2013), BlacKkKlansman (2018), Marriage Story (2019), The Last Duel (2021), House of Gucci (2021), and Ferrari (2023). However, for mainstream fans, his portrayal of Kylo Ren, or Ben Solo, in the Star Wars franchise remains his most iconic role.
While the Sequel Trilogy had its share of clumsy moments, Driver’s performance stood out, and Kylo Ren is still regarded as one of the most significant characters in the trilogy. This lasting impact explains why discussions about Kylo Ren persist.
One key aspect of Kylo’s character in the films was his connection to Darth Vader, a relationship that was largely left unexplored. However, a recent Star Wars story has finally delved deeper into the origins of this connection, shedding light on the mysterious bond between Kylo and Vader.
