One of the most interesting aspects of Stranded Deep is navigating the ocean and exploring shipwrecks and other islands. In theory, players can do this with the basic inflatable raft that they are provided with at the beginning of the game. However, this raft is extremely slow and not very enjoyable to use while exploring, and if players encounter some of the game's more terrifying sea creatures they will find themselves capsized and killed very quickly. It's better in the long run for players to build a raft in Stranded Deep themselves.

Newton series The Big Cigar has rounded out its cast, with Jaime Ray Newman (Dopesick), Noah Emmerich (Dark Winds), John Doman (City on a Hill), Chris Brochu (Zero Contact) and newcomer Brenton Allen coming aboard in recurring roles. The six-episode limited series, based on the eponymous Playboy magazine article by Argo‘s Joshuah Bearman, tells the extraordinary, hilarious, almost-too-good-to-be-true story of how Black Panther leader Newton (Holland) relied on his best friend, Bert Schneider (Nivola) — the Hollywood producer behind Easy Rider — to elude a nationwide manhunt and escape to Cuba while being pursued into exile by the FBI.

Newman will play Roz Torrance, with Emmerich as Schneider’s brother Stanley, and Doman as his father Abe.

Exclusive: Peter Gadiot (Queen of the South) and Kim Matula (LA to Vegas) are set as series regulars opposite Ben Rappaport and Alexandra Chando in NBC’s untitled drama pilot based on the award-winning Dutch series Adam & Eva. The pilot is written by The Village creator Mike Daniels and will be directed by Stephanie Laing.

The project, described as a funny and heartfelt drama, chronicles the epic love and lives of two complete strangers, Adam (Rappaport) and Eva (Chando), whose multiple run-ins begin to defy coincidence, leading both to believe in fate. Phantasm: Ravager Comes to Shudder: "Joining Shudder is Phantasm: Ravager- the final installment of the long-running Phantasm series.

In addition to Phantasm: Ravager, streaming exclusively on Shudder is the remaster of Don Coscarelli’s 1979 classic Phantasm, as well as its sequels Phantasm III and Phantasm IV.

It’s Sunday so it must be time for another installment of VOD Vault, taking a look at some of this weeks on-demand releases that have hit various VOD platforms. Ever since its inception in 2001, the Fast & Furious franchise has continued to add exciting new characters, while keeping established characters like Dom Torretto (Vin Diesel) in the mix as well. The next installment, Fast & Furious 8, will be no different, with Charlize Theron recently signing on to play the villain and Game of Thrones star Kristofer Hivju is starring as her primary henchmen. Today, we have news from Deadline that another key character has been added, with Scott Eastwood (Suicide Squad) taking on the role.

Unfortunately, no details about the actor's character have been released, and it isn't known if he will be siding with Dom and his crew, or if he'll be another character associated with Charlize Theron's villain. From writing Beverly Hills Cop to directing Toy Soldiers and Dawn Patrol, we have a chat with writer/producer/director Daniel Petrie Jr.

Daniel Petrie Jr comes from a family with movies in its blood.

His father, Daniel Petrie Sr, directed films such as Resurrection, Cocoon: The Return and A Raisin In The Sun. His mother, Dorothea, produced movies, wrote novels and acted. And then his brother, Donald Petrie, directed Cocoon: The Return, Miss Congeniality and Grumpy Old Men.

Yet Daniel Petrie Jr is just as busy. His screenplays include Turner & Hooch and Beverly Hills Cop (for which he earned an Academy Award nomination), whilst his directorial debut was the much-loved (by us especially) Toy Soldiers.

As his new film as director, Dawn Patrol (starring Scott Eastwood) lands on DVD, he spared us some time for a chat about his career. Starting with what he's up to right now.

I think this might be the first movie based on a Nicholas Sparks novel that I haven’t hated. Oh, sure, it’s set in an American South — specifically, North Carolina — where there are, impossibly, no black people (see also: Safe Haven), and where it only ever rains as an expression of manly sadness that cannot be articulated in any other way. Dawn Patrol is not the action adventure thrill ride about surfers that it would like you to believe it is. It has nothing to do with either the 1930 or 1938 films of (nearly) the same name about World War I fighter pilots. But it does hope that you will grant its central character some of the automatic sympathy that comes with a soldier’s uniform, because that’s how it introduces us to the “plight” of John (Scott Eastwood: Fury). He is in a desert somewhere — we are clearly meant to infer that it’s Iraq or Afghanistan — wearing Marine fatigues and being held captive by a woman...

Directed by Daniel Petrie Jr., "Dawn Patrol" marks the return to the big screen of one of the most important Latino talents of the past few decades, Julie Carmen.

Scott Eastwood stars as a young surfer-turned-Marine who must confront the consequences of his terrible decisions. In her "Dawn Patrol" portrayal as the enigmatic Laura River, Julie Carmen holds Scott Eastwood hostage as he recalls the twists and turns of how and why he murdered her son. Throughout the film they give alternate Rashomon-like accounts exposing the xenophobia and racism that rips a remote, multicultural surf city apart. Laura explodes with the rage and confusion of a mother confronting her child's killer, and plots a haunting, lasting revenge.

"I was directed in a style inspired by Latin American magical realism and that contrasts with how Scott Eastwood, Rita Wilson, Jeff Fahey, Kim Matula, and Chris Borchu tell their story, in an ultra realistic way. " said Julie Carmen about working on "Dawn Patrol.

In a laughable scene in Dawn Patrol, John (Scott Eastwood) passes a joint to his brother (Chris Brochu) while riding a skateboard, and director Daniel Petrie Jr. stages the moment in drawn-out slow motion, as if he expected it to appear as a SportsCenter highlight. This kind of tacky, on-the-nose treatment is representative of Petrie’s choices throughout the movie — though, in his defense, the screenplay he’s working from (co-written by Rachel Long and Brian Pittman) is a mess in its own right.

Exclusive: La-based indie Enderby Entertainment has set a new production fund to finance two to four projects annually from various domestic and international partners with budgets of up to $15M. The first to be greenlit is Texas-set thriller The Storm. Nelson McCormick (The Stepfather, Prom Night) is directing from a script by Josh Campbell. Enderby partner Rick Dugdale will produce with Peter Toumasis; Enderby’s Daniel Petrie Jr (Beverly Hills Cop) is executive producing. Slated to shoot later this year, the film takes place in the midst of Texas storm season as a cold-blooded criminal seeks revenge on the small town sheriff who sent him to prison a decade earlier. With the sheriff mortally wounded, only an inexperienced deputy is left to protect the locals who are caught in the crossfire after a tornado rips through the town, cutting it off from the outside world.

Exclusive: Roman Kopelevich’s Red Sea Media will handle all international sales on adventure comedy The Librarian starring Marcia Gay Harden and Spanish star Oscar Jaenada.

The film screens at the market and centres on a teacher who travels to Costa Rica where she embarks upon adventure and romance with a younger man.

Red Sea Media’s Afm sales slate include screening titles Dawn Patrol starring Scott Eastwood and Rita Wilson and The Timber starring Josh Peck.

Among Kopelevich’s market roster are Beyond Skyline, set to start production in December; sci-fi adventure The 7th Tear produced by Brett Ratner, Matthew Chausse and Greg and Colin Strause of Hydraulx and John Cheng.

The list includes Squirrels produced by Timur Bekmambetov and the supernatural sci-fi Chimera, produced by Hydraulx.

Exclusive: The action-thriller stars Dominic Purcell, Danny Glover, Cody Hackman and Stephen Lang and is in post.

Allan Ungar directs Gridlocked, about a former Swat leader and a movie star on a ride-along who become trapped when a training facility is overrun by mercenaries.

Ungar and Rob Robol wrote the screenplay and Bruno Marino produces alongside Jenna Mattison and Geoff Hart from Hackybox Pictures.

“It’s fun to sell such an energetic, exciting and edgy film,” said Red Sea Media CEO Roman Kopelevich. “This is a high-quality production with an outstanding script and we think this type of action film is exactly what buyers are looking for.”

Ungar previously wrote and directed the Mma thriller Tapped starring Michael Biehn and Anderson Silva.

The Austin Film Festival has announced its first wave of film screenings, including Centerpiece Film Black and White (directed by Mike Binder and starring Kevin Costner), documentary 21 Years: Richard Linklater, and Dawn Patrol, directed by Aff regular Daniel Petrie Jr. This initial list is a mix of world and regional premieres and provides glimpses of a diverse program; among other things, festivalgoers will have the chance to see a Texas-based political documentary, a pioneer drama with an all-star cast, and Benedict Cumberbatch playing the role of Alan Turing.
