Tammy Slaton is arguably 1000-lb Sisters' biggest star, but there are signs she may leave the beloved show for good. The series premiered in 2020 and chronicled the incredible weight-loss journeys of 38-year-old Tammy and her 37-year-old sister, Amy Slaton. It even gets its provocative title from Tammy and Amy, who once weighed a combined 1,000 pounds.
When they made their TV debuts, Am weighed over 400 pounds, while Tammy weighed over 600 pounds. Neither of the sisters was living their best lives, but Tammy was barely mobile. She couldn't do anything for herself, rarely left the house, and was a prisoner of her own body. Despite her diminished quality of life, Tammy continued to gain weight, getting up to 725 pounds at her heaviest. At her heaviest, Tammy seemed to just give up. She dropped her diet, stopped trying to up her activity level, and started drinking with a bad group of friends all the time.

1000-Lb Sisters season 6 is in full swing, and long-simmering tensions between Tammy Slaton and Amanda Halterman finally reached a boiling point during a Slaton family meeting. The beloved unscripted series, which premiered in 2020, chronicles the weight-loss journeys of several members of the Slaton family. It mainly centers around 37-year-old Amy Slaton and 38-year-old Tammy Slaton, but several of their other siblings have gotten in on the weight-loss action, including 43-year-old Amanda.
Anyone who has watched the unscripted series over the years knows that the Slatons are a hot-headed bunch. They often butt heads, but this recent fight between Tammy and Amanda during 1000-lb Sisters season 6 was uglier than usual. Both sisters said things that they likely didn't mean, but can never take back. Though the Slatons have forgiven each other for heated arguments in this past, it's hard to imagine how they moved past this most recent row.

People tune into sitcoms for laughs, but that doesn’t mean the shows can’t be populated by some downright hateful characters. Redditor Helloimafanoffiction jumped on the r/Sitcom subreddit recently to ask, “Who is the greatest sitcom villain of all time?” and here were some of the most popular responses for the cruelest characters in comedy…
1 Tammy 2
Ron Swanson on Parks and Recreation has few weaknesses in life, but his ex, Tammy 2, is one of them. “Her toxic, manipulative antics make her one of the most memorable and entertaining sitcom villains ever,” wrote user YARRLandPirate. But while Tammy 2 is a terrible person and master Swanson manipulator, Heidi1066 argued that “Tammy 1 is scarier.”
2 The Gang
Most of the sitcom villains named by Redditors are supporting characters who live to antagonize the nice people at the center of the show. On It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, the evil lives in its main characters.

Hollywood has been revisiting a lot of ‘90s teen horror franchises lately, from the new Scream movies, to the I Know What You Did Last Summer TV show, to the Jurassic World series that clearly took its cues from the Denise Richards classic Tammy and the T-Rex.
Now it’s just been announced that Idle Hands is getting a remake (even though it was basically already a remake of that one scene from Army of Darkness).
The new Idle Hands is penned by Billy Bryk and Finn Wolfhard (of Stranger Things fame), and it will be produced by Jason Reitman. Presumably, a story about demonic possession will be a pleasant change of pace for Reitman after the hellish nightmare that is Saturday Night Live’s backstage politics.

To be clear: this is not a comedy!
Meanwhile, new sci-fi series 3 Body Problem hails from Game of Thrones co-creators David Benioff and D. B. Weiss. Oscar-winner Jessica Chastain has to chase directors for movie roles - because they fear they won't be able to "afford" her.The 46-year-old actress won an Academy Award in the Best Actress category for 2021's 'The Eyes of Tammy Faye' and has starred in blockbusters including 'The Help', 'Zero Dark Thirty', 'Interstellar', 'The Martian' and 'Molly's Game'.However, that doesn't mean she is inundated with work offers - quite the opposite. She told Radio Times magazine: "I think that you reach a level of success where the very interesting filmmakers stop calling. Because they are like, 'I'm going to wait for ever for an answer. They're going to string me along, they'll sign up, and then they'll ditch it at the last minute for something else that makes them more money.' So the weird thing is that now it's more me seeking them out.

The Oscar chances for Best Costume Design frontrunners “Barbie,” “Poor Things,” “Killers of the Flower Moon,” “Maestro,” and “Oppenheimer” were bolstered by their nominations for the 26th Costume Designer Guild Awards on January 4. The Cdga will be held February 21, 2024, at Neuehouse Hollywood.
While “Barbie” was nominated in the sci-fi/fantasy category — and should prevail over “Haunted Mansion,” “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes,” “The Little Mermaid,” and “Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire” — the other four compete in the period category against “Napoleon,” with “Poor Things” as the clear favorite here.
Meanwhile, the contemporary contenders include “American Fiction,” “May December,” “Nyad,” “Renfield,” and “Saltburn.” None is expected to make the final Oscar cut, but “Saltburn” is the flashy favorite here.
In terms of the Oscar race, it looks like a feminist battle between Greta Gerwig’s billion-dollar blockbuster “Barbie” and Yorgos Lanthimos’ “Poor Things.

Tammy Slaton is a "monster" who crushes anyone who gets in her way. She has an explosive temper. Tammy's an arrogant woman. Tammy has a troubled past, including the loss of her ex-boyfriend Caleb. Her relationships with her relatives are strained. Tammy's outbursts, selfishness and poor romantic choices have earned her the "monster" label.
1000-lb Sisters season 5 is on the horizon (the new installment premiered on December 12) and "monster" Tammy Slaton's sure to wreak havoc onscreen. Like Godzilla razing the landscape, Tammy crushes anyone who gets in her way. Thanks to a dramatic weight-loss transformation, the cantankerous diva is a whole new woman on the outside. However, inside, Tammy may be roiling.
Tammy has an attitude. Thanks to her arrogance, which admittedly makes for amusing television, she's "Queen Tammy." In real life, she's living with the reality of losing her ex, Caleb Willingham, who sadly passed away when he was only 40 years old.

The run-up to Halloween proved to be a good time to release a new version of Goosebumps.
The series based on R.L. Stine’s beloved books broke into the top 10 overall for the week of Oct. 16-22. The show, which streams on both Disney+ and Hulu, racked up 594 million minutes of viewing for its second week of release, marking a rare non-Marvel or Star Wars original series entry for Disney+ in Nielsen’s rankings (being available on two platforms helped, as well).
Nielsen, incidentally, classified Goosebumps as an acquired show the previous week, apparently because of it being shared across the two platforms, before switching it to the originals column going forward.
The Fall of the House of Usher kept the No. 1 overall spot for the second straight week, growing by 19 percent over its opening to 1.47 billion minutes of viewing. Suits remained strong, recording its 18th straight week above a...

Although things have changed significantly as a result of the streaming era, there have been many great television stars that were never able to completely make the transition to film. Sarah Oh is a great example. Oh immediately established her range as a dramatic performer thanks to her breakout performance on Gray’s Anatomy, which led to a series of successful roles in other prestigious television projects. Although Oh was ruthless on Killing Eve, she was hilarious on The Chair; she hasn’t been able to be pinned to just one genre. Despite how strong Oh’s work on television has been, her film career has not been as successful. This says less about her abilities as an actress, and more about the lack of great roles written for women of color. Although her performances in Umma, Hard Candy, Tammy, and Under the Tuscan Sun were perfectly fine, they don't showcase...

Despite being panned by critics, Melissa McCarthy's 2014 comedy film Tammy has recently become a hit on Netflix, ranking at #8 on the streaming platform's global film chart. Tammy's success showcases McCarthy's box office appeal in the early 2010s, with her previous films Identity Thief and The Heat also grossing high domestic box office numbers. While McCarthy's box office clout has declined in recent years, her popularity remains strong among streaming viewers, as evidenced by Tammy's unexpected appearance in the Netflix top 10.
A critically-panned Melissa McCarthy comedy becomes a Netflix hit almost ten years after its release. Released in 2014, Tammy starred McCarthy as a frazzled fast food worker going on a hilarious road trip with her colorful grandmother (Susan Sarandon) after learning of her husband’s infidelity. No Hard Feelings has made the Netflix global top 10 list, ranking as the seventh most popular film for the week of October 16 – 22. The R-rated comedy stars Jennifer Lawrence as Maddie, a broke woman who takes a job attempting to get a 19-year-old boy out of his shell before he heads off to college. The movie earned positive reviews from critics and audiences, but failed to impress at the box office due to its high budget and a theatrical landscape that isn't friendly to comedies.

Looking at PVOD and Netflix charts this week reveals some significant findings.
The just-debuted “Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One” tops all lists in its first week of release as assumed. That comes 90 days after its release. Did theaters benefit? Not really.
Netflix has a top 10 with eight studio titles, six from Universal, including #1 “Tammy” with Melissa McCarthy. But the big news here? “Fair Play,” last week’s #1 and a $20 million Sundance acquisition for the streamer, dropped off the list after only eight days.
Both suggest a result that could influence future decisions. For “Reckoning,” the hope was that delaying its initial home release 90 days would extend its theatrical run. That didn’t happen.
In the 30 days up to its PVOD release, it grossed less than $2 million in theaters. This year, only a handful of films have had a 60 days or longer window, most at close to that time.

Within the past four years alone, the success rate for Best TV Movie/Limited Series Actress Emmy nominees who have entered their ceremonies with same-year SAG Award wins under their belts has dropped from 100% to 60%. After being followed by Anya Taylor-Joy (“The Queen’s Gambit”) in 2021, win-lose trendsetter Patricia Arquette might soon be joined by 2023 SAG Award recipient Jessica Chastain (“George & Tammy”), whose Gold Derby Emmy odds are significantly lower than those of her strongest challenger, Ali Wong (“Beef”).
Chastain and Wong represent half of their Emmy lineup’s first-time acting nominee majority, which also includes Dominique Fishback (“Swarm”) and Riley Keough (“Daisy Jones & the Six”). Rounding out the group, which features no former Emmy champions, are category newcomers Lizzy Caplan (“Fleishman is in Trouble”) and Kathryn Hahn (“Tiny Beautiful Things”).
In order to determine the likelihood of Chastain perpetuating said unfortunate trend, let’s take a closer look at each nominee.

Emmy-nominated costume designer Mitchell Travers didn’t have the luxury to simply re-create the real suits and gowns worn by country music legends George Jones and Tammy Wynette for Showtime’s limited series George & Tammy. In fact, the stature of actor Michael Shannon, who has earned an Emmy nom for his performance as Jones, was an immediate obstacle for the designer.
“Michael Shannon is a brilliant actor, but he’s also six feet, four inches [tall],” Travers tells THR, adding that the real-life Jones was seven inches shorter. “Trying to create costumes for a much shorter man was a major part of the transformation for him.”

Blue Beetle is the long-awaited live-action debut of the DC hero. The story follows teenager Jaime Reyes, who finds a weird robotic scarab that ultimately infiltrates his life. It intertwines with Jaime's body and grants him a superhero suit. But, obviously, this isn't a blessing for the teen as he can't always control the beetle armor. Aside from the interesting premise and lack of horrible superhero tropes, Blue Beetle stands out because of its groundbreaking representation of Latino communities both on screen and off. As such, some pretty familiar faces are thrown in the bunch to get excited about.

Transforming actors into well-known figures such as Tammy Wynette and Princess Diana was a challenge for artisans, who experimented with techniques to come up with hair and makeup that would look authentic to viewers.
Cate Hall spent hours with Elizabeth Debicki while recreating Princess Diana’s sophisticated coiffure from the early 1990s for Season 5 of “The Crown.” Through a series of incremental adjustments to the wig — and plenty of patience from Debicki – Hall got the look she desired.
“You hold one another’s hand as you keep slicing the wig with a razor and inching towards a shape that feels recognizable,” she recalls of her collaboration with Debicki.
Hall admits that in her first attempt at the wig, Debicki looked more like a “lady called Brenda from 1983” than the glamorous royal. But she kept working on it.

Halle Bailey stars as Ariel, a young mermaid whose desire to explore the human world leads her to trade her voice to the sea witch Ursula (Melissa McCarthy) for a pair of legs.
On Wednesday, Melissa McCarthy took to Instagram to share a brand-new clip from The Little Mermaid remake.

“George and Tammy” is just outside Gold Derby’s Best Limited Series top five, but considering Emmy voters find shows about turbulent real-life celebrity marriages nearly as irresistible as “The White Lotus,” we might be underestimating this six-part dramatization of country singers George Jones (Michael Shannon) and Tammy Wynette’s (Jessica Chastain) thirty-year romantic and artistic relationship.
In 2019, FX’s “Fosse/Verdon” scored nominations for Limited Series, Actress (eventual winner Michelle Williams), Actor (Sam Rockwell), Supporting Actress (Margaret Qualley) and its writing and directing. Positive reviews and high placement in the odds that year made the inclusion of Bob Fosse and Gwen Verdon’s connubial saga all but obvious. Qualley’s nomination, however, came as something of a shock. The actress was down in 18th place but outgunned Emma Thompson (“King Lear”), Sally Field (“Maniac”) and Eliza Scanlen (“Sharp Objects”).

The Little Mermaid live-action remake director Rob Marshall recently explained why Melissa McCarthy was chosen to play Ursula. Based on Disney's 1989 animated classic of the same name, the 2023 musical stars singer Halle Bailey as Ariel, a mermaid princess of the underwater kingdom of Atlantica. McCarthy takes the role of the film's villainous Ursula, a conniving sea witch who removes Ariel's voice in exchange for her to become human, all in a plot to steal King Triton's magical trident.
Speaking with SFX Magazine (via GamesRadar), Marshall detailed his reasoning for choosing McCarthy as The Little Mermaid live-action remake's Ursula. Praising McCarthy's comedic talents, the director also highlighted her dramatic capabilities as well, stating that the actor's versatility made her a great choice for the role. Read what Marshall said about McCarthy below:

The top honorees at the 2023 Laurence Olivier Awards were plays that focused on cultures outside of London. “My Neighbour Totoro,” which is based on the beloved Japanese film of the same name from Studio Ghibli, won six trophies, the most of the night, including Best New Comedy, Director, and four craft categories. A revival of the American classic “A Streetcar Named Desire” by Tennessee Williams claimed three: Best Play Revival and for lead Paul Mescal and featured player Anjana Vasan. Meanwhile, the British-based “Prima Facie,” which is set to bow on Broadway this month and will thus compete at the Tony Awards, took home two prizes for Best Play and for star Jodie Comer.
The only other productions to win more than one trophy were all musicals. “Standing at the Sky’s Edge” won two of the top prizes: Best Musical and Best Original Score or New Orchestrations. “Tammy Faye,...

Melissa McCarthy has a manic energy, and boy, does she know how to wield it. The Illinois native got her start in the comedy scene at the legendary improvisational theater company The Groundlings, where she pursued her passion for creating silly characters, wearing wigs, and making people laugh. Following her time well spent on the famous Chicago stage, she’s appeared in a number of laugh-out-loud comedies, from Identity Thief, This is 40, and Bridesmaids, to Spy, The Heat, and Tammy. Within seconds of her being on screen, she sounds the alarms that she is a force to be reckoned with, as she metaphorically punches you with jokes.
