Actress and producer Kristen Bell will host the upcoming SAG Awards, honoring the best in acting, the organization announced on Monday.
The star of “Nobody Wants This,” “The Good Place” and “Veronica Mars,” Bell is returning to host for her second time, after taking the helm in 2018 when she was the first-ever host. The show is often run without a host — Megan Mullally (in 2019) and Idris Elba (in 2024) are the only other emcees in the ceremony’s 31-year history.
“Kristen Bell’s wit, warmth and charm makes her the perfect fit for our show — a night celebrating actors and the outstanding performances of the year,” SAG Awards executive producer Jon Brockett said in a Monday statement.” Plus, everybody wants this.”

FX's animated series Unsupervised is set to return on Thursday, December 6 at 11:30pm. It'll follow back-to-back episodes of sitcom The League. The remaining episodes of Unsupervised are expected to air before the end of the year.
Back in September 2011, the cable channel ordered 13 episodes. The first 10 installments aired from January through March, paired with Archer. The last episode to air in March attracted just 510,000 viewers, compared to Archer's 1.33 million viewers.
Despite garnering poor ratings, FX opted to order a second season of Unsupervised in late March. There's no word on when they'll air or how many installments have been ordered.
Unsupervised revolves around two 15-year-old best friends -- Gary (Justin Long) and Joel (David Hornsby) -- who try to do the right thing without parental supervision. The voice cast also includes Alexa Vega, Fred Armisen,...

It took five weeks, but box offices are beginning to get full on Katniss Everdeen as The Hunger Games fell to third place this weekend. Taking the top spot was Think Like a Man with a big bank of $33 million in estimated domestic gross. Director Tim Story showed that he could overcome disappointing fans of the Fantastic Four franchise and get back to making good films that African-American audiences (though let’s remember, not exclusively) can be excited about like his debut film, Barbershop. It’s good to know that black audiences don’t always have to wait for Tyler Perry to make or produce a film even though it seemed like that was the case for many years. Believe me that’s a good thing because Perry doesn’t always make good films. Think Like a Man opened bigger than any Tyler Perry film with the exception of Madea Goes to Jail...

Q- You are the current Director of WGA's Showrunner Training Program at Writers Guild of America West. How many applicants did you have for this year?
A- We had over eighty applicants for about twenty five slots. The application process is a two step process. First applicants have to be recommended by current show runners or creative executives. Once they've been recommended, they fill out an application. I review the applications and we end up interviewing about fifty candidates. Out of those fifty candidates we invite approximately twenty five people to participate in the Program. 30 Rock, Season 6, Episode 8, “The Tuxedo Begins”
Written by Josh Siegal & Dylan Morgan
Directed by John Riggi
Airs Thursdays at 8pm Et on NBC
We begin tonight with a refreshingly great episode of 30 Rock, possibly the best they’ve done in years. Turning to current events for the second time this season, the show finds significantly more success dealing with Alec Baldwin’s mayoral aspirations than it did Tracy Jordan’s homophobia. It opens with an amusing gag featuring Liz on the subway and a brief musical bit with a prostitute joyous upon arrival to New York City. That neither of these are mere throwaway gags and both factor into the episode that follows goes to show just how tight the writing on this episode is.
30 Rock more or less functions as a finely tuned joke machine and a good episode can usually be defined as one in which work than fall flat.

Valentine’s Day episodes seem to be a necessary evil if your show happens to run on one of the networks. There must be some data out there that suggests they help ratings during February sweeps but in comparison to Halloween episodes, which are usually a fair amount of fun, they often feel uninspired. Which doesn’t help things in a season of 30 Rock that uninspired describes fairly well. It’s the combination of jokes that are mildly-amusing at best and plots that feel short on innovation that has made this season feel like such a chore. If either area was working it would be significantly easier to overlook the other; unfortunately that’s not the case tonight.

David Hornsby is a very busy man. Not only is he an executive producer of FX's It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, but he also appears occasionally as Rickety Cricket. Last year, Hornsby created, executive produced and starred in CBS' short-lived sitcom How to Be a Gentleman. And now he's a co-creator and executive producer of FX's new animated series Unsupervised (Thursdays at 10:30/11:30c), which follows the exploits of...

Editor’s Pick: Read Our Review of Chronicle
We’re well into the second month of 2012 and the country is still infatuated with super heroes. When small films like Chronicle can sit atop the box office with a tally of $22 million, then you know how much super hero films have a hold on theaters around the country. Just wait until The Avengers and The Dark Knight Rises come out. Chronicle beat out Daniel Radcliffe and The Woman in Black by the slim margin of $1 million. Meanwhile, Kristen Bell (Unsupervised, House of Lies) and her viral breakdowns about her encounters with sloths could not help the third new release this week, Big Miracle, the feel good story of the week that recounted the true story about whales trapped in ice which finished fourth with a disappointing $8.5 million. Still holding strong at #3 was Liam Neeson and The Grey.

30 Rock, Season 6, Episode 5, “Today You Are a Man”
Written by Ron Weiner
Directed by Jeff Richmond
Airs Thursdays at 8pm Et on NBC
This week’s 30 Rock seems like an improvement on the season to date, yet it more or less recycles last week’s Kenneth plot. The staff at Tgs didn’t notice Kenneth’s absence when Jack discontinued the page program (didn’t they make a note of his absence during last week’s party scene?), so Kenneth rebels by switching places with another page and instead of Jack realizing how difficult life without Kenneth is like last week we have the writers experiencing the same epiphany. This is helped along by the dependable Kristen Schaal’s appearance as Hazel Wassername. Hazel is Suze Orman’s page at NBC so when she takes over for Kenneth he fills in for her. This leads to an extraordinarily awkward scene with Mrs.

Many animated shows struggle to find their stride and their true identity in their first season. Family Guy was not an instant hit. Neither were The Simpsons. But in all successful series you can always see through the rough spots and see a good show coming through.
FX’s Unsupervised is having that kind of start in its first season. Gary (Justin Long) and Joel (David Hornsby) are best friends but don’t have any idea or direction in life due to their lack of supervision. There’s a lot of potential, some well-written jokes a fun voice cast, and some great visual gags, but after tonight’s nod to baseball, “Field of Dreams… and Dogs” there still remains a little unevenness. Hang in there though because there are at least five reasons to stick with first season to see if they can tighten up the show.

30 Rock, Season 6, Episodes 3 & 4, “Idiots are People Three!” & “The Ballad of Kenneth Parcell”
“Idiots” Written by Robert Carlock, Directed by Beth McCarthy-Miller
“Ballad” Written by Matt Hubbard, Directed by Jeff Richmond
Airs Thursday at 8pm Et on NBC
It’s kind of disheartening to see the show has abandoned the new dynamic involving a happy Liz and a sentimental Jack it established in the pilot. Part two of “Idiots are People” was much stronger than part one, but after being teased with the possibility of Liz having a wonderful new boyfriend that was going to change her life, we’re firmly back in the familiar territory of Jack deriding Lemon’s poor taste in men. It’s amusing to watch as Jack break up with Liz’s boyfriend for her and it’s always fun when Devin Banks comes around, but these are very familiar scenes, tropes 30 Rock has turned to time and time again.

30 Rock, Season 6, Episode 2, “Idiots are People Two!”
Written by Robert Carlock
Directed by Beth McCarthy-Miller
Airs Thursdays at 8pm Et on NBC
Tonight on 30 Rock an attempt is made to deal with Tracy Morgan’s homophobic outburst this summer, and I’m not sure they wouldn’t have been better off leaving it alone. It’s not that the show isn’t capable of handling touchy political issues, last season’s “Tgs Hates Women” was one of the best episodes of the show’s run. It dealt with the perceived misogyny inherent in modern comedy (even more of an issue today with David Letterman’s talent booker being fired this week for claiming female comedians aren’t as funny as men), the Olivia Munn/Jezebel spat and female gross out comics like Sarah Silverman with a measure of insight and more importantly a level of humor that is completely absent from tonight’s episode.

I posted my review of FX's "Unsupervised" this morning. Now it's your turn. What did everybody think on this kinder, somewhat gentler spin on "Beavis & Butt-Head" from the "Always Sunny" guys? Did you like Gary and Joel? Did you find it funnier than I did? Do you prefer Kristen Bell's voiceover work here or on "Gossip Girl"? And given all the "Archer" love around here, are you going to stick around just because one airs after the other? Have at it.

FX has two hit comedies on its hands with "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" and "Archer." So when the network had the chance to combine the minds from these show into a new animated series, it makes sense that they gave it a green light. If only things worked out the way they look on paper.
"Unsupervised" follows two teen misfits Gary (Justin Long) and Joel (David Hornsby) whose parents are never around -- thus the title. Because the two have no actual adult guidance in their lives, they have carte blanche to do whatever they want. This results in the two conducting "Jackass"-type stunts and doing generally irresponsible things. If all this sounds familiar, it's because the show is essentially "Beavis and Butt-head" without the musical interludes...or the laughs.
In the pilot, Gary and Joel realize that they're behind the curve in terms of getting girls. So...

Chicago – It’s tough being a high school freshman nowadays. Your parents either don’t pay enough attention to you or they pay way too much. There’s peer pressure everywhere — smoking, partying, getting laid. What happened to just playing with toys and jumping off the roof? FX’s “Unsupervised” attempts to turn these tumultuous days into humor and partially succeeds. Tonight’s premiere has its moments but it follows an amazing half-hour of animated TV in “Archer” and will pale in comparison.
Television Rating: 3.0/5.0
Let’s talk about what really matters — is “Unsupervised” funny? There are undeniably clever lines and smile-producing twists of character well-voiced by an extremely talented cast of actors. But great animated comedies are more than just a string of jokes — they come together on another level in terms of plot and character. Mediocre animated comedies are joke, set-up, joke, set-up, joke, etc. While there’s...

What happens when suave spy Sterling Archer meets his hero, Burt Reynolds?
Sadly, his hero isn't terribly impressed, if this exclusive sneak peek at "The Man From Jupiter" is any indication.
"Archer" returns Thursday on FX, alongside the new animated comedy "Unsupervised," which comes from members of "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia's" creative team. But the main attraction when it comes to this Thursday's animated comedies is Burt Reynolds voicing himself on "Archer," an event that the show's creator, Adam Reed, discussed in depth in this story and podcast.

Frank Darabont Returning to TV With ‘L.A. Noir’ for TNT
