The latest Transformers toy line is now heading to retail, with several new action figures planned for the first wave. This includes two upcoming Voyager Class toys, including one based on an overlooked anime Predacon.
Transformers: Age of the Primes' Sky-Byte and Heatwave are both based on pre-existing characters from the franchise, recreating their designs with modernized toy engineering. This continues the theme of the preceding toy line, which featured Autobots, Decepticons, Maximals, Predacons and more from across the property's history. Now available for preorder, both figures are set to be released by Q3 2025.

The fun thing about franchises that have been around for a long time is that over the years, we get to see so many different interpretations of characters, themes, and ideas. This is absolutely the case for Transformers, a franchise that has really learned how to evolve with its audience over its forty year history and find ways to introduce the characters to the newest and youngest fans while still making media that connects with the original fans and gives them new characters and stories. This includes Michael Bays Transformers films or any of the fantastic Idw comic book series. The franchise shows no signs of slowing down, either with Transformers: One now in theaters, and quite a few projects are in the works for the franchises fortieth anniversary, including a collaboration with Monster Hunter.

Many different actors have played the iconic Transformers character Optimus Prime over the years. The franchise, which is a collaboration between Hasbro in America and Takara Tomy in Japan, originally kicked off when the Takara Tomy toy lines Micro Change and Diaclone were rebranded in the West in 1984, accompanied by an animated series bringing the characters from the lines to life. Optimus Prime, whose Japanese name is Convoy, was one of the original Transformers characters during this rebrand launch.
Since it originated, the Transformers franchise has expanded to include a vast array of further toy lines and animated shows as well as additional multimedia properties including animated and live-action movies, comic books, video games, and more. Optimus Prime has continued to be one of the core characters of many of these iterations, and more than a dozen different actors have provided his voice over the years, with still others providing...

We all know what happened after 2004’s Mean Girls – Regina became a lacrosse champ, Karen used her psychic boobs to present the morning weather announcements, Gretchen co-opted the Cool Asians, and Cady floated in a newly repaired girl world… while keeping a beady eye on any emerging Young Plastics set to reinstate the old hierarchy. Now there’s a film of the musical of the film.
But to the actors who played them in the original? Oscar nominations, pop careers, Hallmark Christmas movies, prestige streaming dramas, LGBT+ firsts, and much more.

Concept art for an unmade G.I. Joe cartoon has finally been released, showcasing an unseen look at the Real American Hero.
Said concept art was revealed through Night Shining, Inc., with the series being pitched during the 2010s. Titled G.I. Joe: Adventure Team, the series was going to combine the adventure and rescue scope of the 1970s G.I. Joe toyline while acting as a sort of prelude to the G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero cartoon of the 1980s. Eschewing terrorists and similar threats entirely, the focus was instead going to be on adventuring around the world to protect natural wonders. To this end, the Adventure Team was going to be comprised of various adventurers with certain skill sets and specialties. For instance, Rocky was the "Land Adventurer" who was trained in geology and tracking.

The Transformers franchise has, over nearly four decades, managed to take an innovative Japanese toy line and not only rebrand and sell it in the West but also create one of the most famous and beloved series of all time. From these humble origins arose a vast, sprawling universe not just of transforming robot cars, but of gods, political intrigue, and destiny.
But setting aside the action, storytelling, and everything else that makes the franchise so popular, there is one thing that makes Transformers truly stand out: it looks cool. From the beginning, great care has been taken in designing these characters, both on toy store shelves and television screens, and has resulted in some of the most iconic designs in sci-fi history.

An actor synonymous with the Transformers franchise is now set to receive a Lifetime Achievement Award.
The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences has announced that it will be awarding this honor to none other than Peter Cullen. A voice actor since the 1970s, Cullen is best-known as the voice of Autobot leader Optimus Prime. He first portrayed the iconic character in the 1984 animated series The Transformers, with his portrayal of Prime becoming a father figure to a generation of viewers. Though temporarily killed off in the events of The Transformers: The Movie, the character -- still voiced by Cullen -- returned in the series' third and fourth seasons. He continued to be the vocals behind the Autobot Matrix of Leadership for the rest of the "Generation 1" promotional material and into the commercials for the 1990s rebrand Transformers: Generation 2.

To talk about Peter Cullen's voice acting career is to take a trip through the last five decades of mainstream U.S. animation. The man has lent his voice to so many noteworthy cartoon series that it boggles the mind, including "Scooby-Doo and Scrappy-Doo," "The Smurfs," "Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends," "Voltron: Defender of the Universe," "Alvin and the Chipmunks," "Muppet Babies," "Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers," and "Invincible." But one cannot even begin to do justice to his body of work without touching on the iconic character that he's voiced across multiple animated shows and feature films for nearly 40 years now. Truly, at this point, Cullen is all but synonymous with his onscreen counterpart: Eeyore.
After debuting as the Autobots' intrepid leader in "The Transformers" in 1984, Cullen took over voicing the most relatable resident of the Hundred Acre Wood from the late Ralph Wright (who voiced...

The year is almost over. The Hargreeves kids have saved the world and Beth Harmon has checkmated her last opponent. But in its new releases for December 2020, Netflix still has some tricks up its sleeve.
For starters, Netflix is ending this most curious year with some promising original films. David Fincher’s long-awaited Mank arrives on Dec. 4 to fill us in on the story of Citizen Kane‘s screenwriter. Then on Dec. 11, Meryl Streep, Nicole Kidman, and James Corden do their best musical impression with The Prom. Chadwick Boseman’s final film Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom debuts on Dec. 18. Then George Clooney rounds out the month with The Midnight Sky on Dec. 23.
But of course, it’s in the original series realm where Netflix does most of its work. The biggest one comes at month’s end this December. The final season of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina premieres on New Year’s Eve.

With The Umbrella Academy returning for a second season this Friday, superhero shows remain a solid investment for Netflix. A new trailer for Deathstroke: Knights & Dragons has arrived online. This latest DC animated feature is interesting as it started life as a short-form series on CW Seed. But more than 50 minutes of footage has been added, given fans an entire movie to enjoy. The trailer showcases the R-rated adventure to come, with Slade Wilson getting his hands very dirty on a quest to save his family.
The trailer opens up with Slade Wilson's transformation into the assassin known as Deathstroke. Things get action-heavy in a hurry before we find the mercenary put in a tough spot. A large body count is racked up, plenty of bullets fly and there is quite a bit of emotion layered in to break up the violence. Even though this came to life in a non-traditional way, converting a series into a full-length movie, it looks to be in line with what we...

Warner Bros. has released a new trailer for Lego DC: Shazam! Magic and Monsters. This brings the DC hero back for a new cinematic tale, but in Lego form this time around. It follows in the footsteps of last year's live-action Shazam, which proved to be a big hit. This time, it's Goonies star Sean Astin taking on the role in what looks to be an adventure-filled DC adaptation geared toward younger viewers.
The trailer kicks off with Shazam! stopping a monster attack, which catches the eye of several other notable DC heroes. The Justice League are then captured by Mr. Mind and turned into children. Black Adam also comes into the picture, and the younger versions of these heroes are forced to partner up to take him down. This is giving fans the Black Adam vs. Shazam fight we're not getting between The Rock and Zachary Levi anytime soon,...

Disney’s dormant film franchise, The Rocketeer, will be revived as an animated series, starring a female hero...
The Rocketeer franchise is ready for another liftoff more than a quarter of a century after it was grounded. While rumblings in recent years have teased a reboot movie and even a straight sequel to the original 1991 film, Disney’s family-friendly genre-mixing action brand will soon manifest as an animated series on the Mouse’s youth-aimed cable platform, Disney Junior.
Disney has announced that production on The Rocketeer animated series has already commenced. The franchise-reviving cartoon will – apropos to its platform – be aimed at young children (ages 2-7,) and families, targeting a release in 2019. The story will draw inspiration from The Rocketeer comic book series of Dave Stevens, which adhered to the original film. However, the series will follow the rocket pack-powered exploits of a young female hero. Each...

Disney has started production on a new animated adventure series for kids called The Rocketeer, which is inspired by the classic Dan Stevens comic book series. The series will air on Disney Junior is being aimed at kids 2 to 7 years old.
I'm a huge fan of The Rocketeer! I especially loved Joe Johnston's 1991 film adaptation. I kinda wish that they were making a more adult-oriented Rocketeer animated series, but at least this will introduce a whole new generation of kids to the property. Here are the story details:
The Rocketeer follows Kit, a young girl who receives a surprise package on her birthday revealing that she’s next in line to become the Rocketeer, a legendary superhero who has the ability to fly with the help of a rocket-powered jet pack. Armed with her cool new gear and secret identity, Kit is ready to take flight and save the...

Netflix is expiring a slew of movies and TV shows in February -- but don't panic! As we previously reported, several BBC series including "Doctor Who" and the original British "The Office" that were once set to leave Netflix on Feb. 1 are staying put. However, several other BBC titles will be disappearing Feb 1. According to Variety, bid a sad toodle-doo to "Fawlty Towers," "Blackadder" and "Mi:5." As for movies, the clock is ticking on "Zodiac," "Batman Returns," "Apocalypse Now," and "Mad Max," which will also be pulled in the monthly purge.

Netflix has just released their lists of what films and TV shows we will see added in February…and what films and TV shows will vanish.
First, the good news: quite a few classic and popular TV shows are making the grade on the streaming service, including the first five seasons of Mash, Hawaii 5-0, and the new season of House of Cards. New additions to the film list include RoboCop, The Brothers Bloom, and Gimme Shelter. While there’s not a lot of quality stuff on offer, there are at least a few new films and TV shows that we can enjoy on the Netflix streaming service.
Now for the bad news: quite a number of favorites are going to vanish from Netflix come February 1. Among these are several James Bond films, Zodiac, Jane Eyre, and Dredd. The TV shows fare even worse, with tons of BBC shows expiring,...

Science fiction, man. I love it. But comic books make me want to hate it. I mean, I get that comic books aren’t really a literary medium. They can be, but they’re read mostly by people avoiding the commitment and sometimes challenge of a more rigorous, if still speculative, format, namely prose. Now I’m not going to pretend that prose Sf&F is always a step up from comics and, in fact, there’s pretty much an equal ratio of turds to gold (there’s some kind of law for this, I think). But so much more effort is put into the “science” part of science fiction in literature than it is in comics, and that seems to be an unfortunate result of the assumption (perhaps correctly) most comic book writers make that their audience isn’t interested in “harder” sci-fi or fantasy. But they try at it anyway sometimes,...

It was a real pleasure to speak with Maurice, who I’ve been listening to in various guises since I was a wee thing (I was a big Inspector Gadget fan as a child; and then with Animaniacs, Pinky and the Brain, and Futurama being amongst my other favorite shows through the years, I guess I’ve pretty much been listening to Maurice all my life!). It was also great to see him do many of his excellent voices and impressions both during the interview,...

The Movie Pool finds more than meets the eye to the Transformers Rescue Bots: Roll to the Rescue DVD!
The Set-up
A band of Transformers with rescue abilities is assigned by Optimus Prime to protect the town of Griffin Rock. From the Hub TV network show.
The Delivery
A kinder, gentler version of Transformers geared towards younger kids, Rescue Bots is a well-done, entertaining cartoon that is perfect for the 7 to 12-year-olds it aims for.
The new show focuses on a new group of Transformers called Rescue Bots, who come to Earth after getting the signal sent out by Optimus Prime. With skills made for rescue operations, Prime assigns them to work undercover as rescue vehicles in the town of Griffin Rock. Chase, Heatwave, Blades, and Boulder are the led characters here, although Optimus Prime does show up in cameos.
The animation is surprisingly well done, and doesn't appear cheap like so many current cartoons.

Lacey Chabert starred as little Claudia Salinger on one of the most depressing TV shows ever, "Party of Five" -- and today, she turns 30!The show, which ran from 1994-2000 on Fox, is known for its somber plot-lines, which included dead parents, alcoholism, a cancer battle, domestic violence, a miscarriage and mental illness.Thankfully, most of the stars ended up having some happy careers after the movie.Lacey would go on to play Gretchen Wieners in "Mean Girls" and do voice work for "The Wild Thornberrys," "Young Justice," "Transformers: Rescue Bots" and "The Spectacular Spider-Man."Neve Campbell would have success with the "Scream" franchise, Matthew Fox starred on "Lost" while Scott Wolf would go on to star on "Everwood" and "V." And Jennifer Love Hewitt, who played virginal Sarah on the show, would get her own short-lived spinoff ("Time Of Your Life"), star on "Ghost Whisperer" and Lifetime's current hit "The Client List.
