The American girl revolution in England will continue this summer, when The Buccaneers Season 2 premieres with its first episode on Wednesday, June 18, on Apple TV+, the streamer has announced. One installment will be released every Wednesday until the season finale on Aug. 6.

Additionally, Apple TV+ unveiled several new images from the upcoming season, including a first look at new cast member Leighton Meester (Gossip Girl, Single Parents) as Nell.

Breaking Bad fan favorite Aaron Paul's next movie role has been revealed. The actor has boarded the cast of Bear Country, marking one of several new additions announced for the project.

Per Deadline, Paul is set to appear in Bear Country alongside fellow new additions Luke Evans (Beauty and the Beast) and Daniel Zovatto (Woman of the Hour). It was previously announced that Russell Crowe (Gladiator) would be starring in the action-thriller movie. Other confirmed cast members include Nina Dobrev (The Vampire Diaries) and Teresa Palmer (A Discovery of Witches).

About two years ago, we heard that producers Mark Lane and James Harris of Tea Shop Productions, who freaked out movie-goers with the shark thrillers 47 Meters Down and 47 Meters Down: Uncaged, as well as the survival thriller Fall, were teaming up with Gavin Mehrtens and Ashley Holberry of Cowboy Cosmonaut for a new “nature run amok thriller,” a killer alligator movie that was, at the time, called The Bayou. That project has since been retitled Gator Creek and it’s set to be released through the likes of Prime Video, Apple TV, YouTube Movies, Sky Store, BT Store, and Microsoft Store on March 24th. Exclusive: Warm Bodies and A Discovery Of Witches actress Teresa Palmer has been set to star with Russell Crowe, Nina Dobrev and Kartiah Vergara in action-thriller Bear Country, which is currently filming in Australia.

Helmed by Derrick Borte, Bear Country follows an ageing but formidable club owner, Manco Kapak (Crowe), who is robbed by a masked gunman, leaving his aspirations of selling his club and riding off into the sunset alongside his razor sharp girlfriend Sunny (Palmer) more distant than ever. Palmer has the female lead role.

The BBC has released first-look pictures for the brand-new four-part thriller ‘Reunion,’ starring Matthew Gurney, Lara Peake, Anne-Marie Duff, Eddie Marsan and Rose Ayling-Ellis.

The thriller is an emotional thriller of revenge and redemption following the journey of Daniel Brennan, played by Matthew Gurney, a deaf man determined to right his wrongs while unravelling the truth behind the events that led him to prison. Brennan embodies the struggle of a man caught between two worlds, unable to fully integrate into the hearing world and shunned by his closest friends and the wider deaf community following his heinous crime. Amidst this isolation, Brennan’s only meaningful relationship is with his estranged daughter Carly, played by Lara Peake, who he has not had any contact with since his arrest over a decade ago.

Bestselling author Juno Dawson has entered the Tardis for the upcoming Doctor Who.

Dawson, who pens a Doctor Who spin-off podcast, is one of a number of new faces joining Russell T Davies’ regenerated series, also including Pete McTighe, Inua Ellams and Sharma Angel-Walfall.

The new series will come out later this year.

Dawson is a best-selling author whose works include This Book is Gay and Her Majesty’s Royal Coven. Her Doctor Who: Redacted BBC podcast features former Doctor Jodie Whittaker and is about a group caught in a supernatural conspiracy as they learn that everyone who’s ever met the Doctor is disappearing and being forgotten.

Dublin-based post-production house Windmill Lane Pictures is to close with immediate effect, citing the impact of the 2023 writers’ and actors’ strike in the US and the “erosion of competitiveness” of Ireland’s VFX tax credit.

Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead, Last Night in Soho) is directing a new take on Stephen King’s The Running Man, and the adaptation has found its game show host in actor Colman Domingo per Deadline.

The Running Man will now release in theaters on November 7, 2025 after shifting from its original November 21 date.

King’s novel, published under the pseudonym Richard Bachman, was released in 1982, loosely adapted into the same-titled Arnold Schwarzenegger-starring film in 1987. I can't believe it's been a little over a year since Netflix announced the sad news that Shadow and Bone had been cancelled. The streamer shared the update back in November 2023. Since then, many of us fans have still been thinking about the fantasy series.

Now, look. Season 2 was not my cup of tea and I did not enjoy it very much overall. However, because of how great season 1 was, it's following, and with so much more story still left to tell, I do think Netflix should have given the series one more shot.

But, here we are in this unfortunate position still. That doesn't mean the fantastical tale doesn't cross our minds every once in a while. If you're like me and looking for something to give you the same vibes, I've got your back. Here's 4 good shows like Shadow and Bone to watch if you miss the fantasy series.

It’s hard to believe that 2024 is nearly over. It certainly was a tough year for the world, and one we will remember, for all the good and the bad. But one thing is certain: our favorite authors dropped some awesome books this year. So many fantasy books came out in 2024 that it was hard to keep track, between new installments in well-established series, standalones, and new sagas. AMC Networks is kicking off 2025 with a January lineup that includes season two of Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches and Sanctuary: A Witch’s Tale. Planet Earth: Asia, presented by Sir David Attenborough, premieres in late January on BBC America, and horror fans will be treated to Nick Frost’s Get Away debuting on Shudder on January 10th.

Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches Season...

There are several excellent fantasy books that have both spice and plot but tend to focus more on the plot than on the spice. Fantasy books containing a mix of plot and spice have become more prevalent as a whole. Fantasy books with more spice than plot, such as From Blood And Ash by Jennifer L. Armentrout or What Lies Beyond The Veil by Harper L. Woods, have been massively successful on BookTok. While these stories might not become classic fantasy books, they are well worth reading all the same.

Spice in fantasy is not necessarily for everyone, and plenty of fantasy books deliver romance with little or no spice at all, proving that spice is not always necessary for a compelling narrative. However, some fantasy books contain a significant amount of spice, but not enough to overtake the plot—just enough to provide sensual chemistry while the plot primarily drives the narrative.

My Lady Jane is a truly unique series that combines royal court politics, drama, romance, and fantasy all into one! Plus, Jane and Guildford's love starts out as enemies to lovers and also has an element of a forbidden romance to it since he's an Ethian. I mean, where are you truly going to find a show like that?

Unfortunately, you can't. That's what truly made My Lady Jane so special and we're still so mad that Prime Video cancelled the show after only one season. It's amassed quite a following and had really good ratings from viewers and critics. So it's really hard to understand why the streamer decided to cut it short.

So while we miss the series, all we can do is either keep rewatching it or try to find a show that will give us some similar vibes. There isn't one that combines all the things...

Agatha All Along has been a fantastic series, and there are more shows to watch if you love that witchy magic!

The Marvel Television series has become a major hit for Disney Plus. This sequel to WandaVision has Kathryn Hahn reprising her scene-stealing role as witch Agatha Harkness, the secret architect of much of the chaos. After regaining her memory and powers, Agatha goes on a quest for more power with the uneasy aid of other witches and a mysterious Teen.

The show has a wonderful mix of dark humor, action, thrills, drama and some truly shocking twists. It’s one of many TV shows that use witches and magic, most aimed at a YA audience. Others do have the same appeal as Agatha with a darker take on magic yet some truly offbeat storytelling.

Narrowing it down can be hard, but these 15 shows are just for anyone who enjoyed Agatha All Along.

I did wonder how well Good Omens would translate from book to screen. Well, it worked, and now we’re ready to see how it all comes to an end. Well, sort of. We’re not “ready” ready, but it does need an ending.

Netflix’s limited series The Perfect Couple and its movie Rebel Ridge ranked first and second overall on Nielsen’s streaming charts for the week of Sept. 9-15, just as they did over the prior seven days. The Perfect Couple drew 1.97 billion minutes of viewing time (up a bit from 1.91 bilion), and Rebel Ridge grew to 1.28 billion minutes from 1.11 billion for its premiere week.

Also showing significant growth: Hulu’s unscripted show The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, which improved by 78 percent week to week and broke into the overall top 10 with 729 million minutes of viewing. The BBC has picked up Nicole Kidman’s The Last Anniversary, the latest adaptation from Big Little Lies scribe Liane Moriarty.

Deadline revealed casting for The Last Anniversary for Australia’s Binge last year and the series will star Teresa Palmer (The Clearing, A Discovery of Witches, The Fall Guy), Miranda Richardson (Good Omens, Spider) and Danielle Macdonald (The Tourist, Patti Cake$).

Having previously bought Moriarty adaptation Apples Never Fall, the BBC has snapped The Last Anniversary up for iPlayer in a deal with distributor Fifth Season.

Less than a week after it was announced that Glen Powell's Running Man remake would release on November 21, 2025, the film is building out its ensemble with a major Netflix star. A new report from Deadline revealed that Daniel Ezra, who plays the lead role of Spencer James in all six seasons of All-American, has joined Powell in The Running Man. Powell will also reunite with his Twisters co-star Katy O'Brian in the film, which was announced shortly after Paramount dropped the release date last week. In addition to his role in All-American, Ezra is also known for his role as Nathaniel Wilson in A Discovery of Witches, the supernatural fantasy series which is currently streaming on Netflix, and also for playing Alan Gill in Prey, a 2014 crime thriller series streaming on Peacock and Hulu.

Based on the novel of the same name by Stephen King that the author first published under the pseudonym Richard Bachman, Running Man was made famous by the 1987 movie starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. King’s futuristic novel is a chase thriller set in a dystopian America in the year 2025. The story centers on Ben Richards, a desperate man who participates in violent reality show called The Running Man in order to win enough money to revive his gravely ill daughter.

The Perfect Couple shot to the top overall spot in Nielsen’s streaming rankings for its premiere week.

The murder mystery limited series, which stars Nicole Kidman, Liev Schreiber and Dakota Fanning, accumulated 1.91 billion minutes of viewing for the week of Sept. 2-8 (it premiered on Sept. 5). That’s the fifth highest total for any original series premiere week on the streaming charts this year, behind Fool Me Once (3.04 billion minutes), Fallout (2.9 billion), Bridgerton (2.76 billion) and Netflix’s live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender (2.56 billion).

The Perfect Couple was one of five titles to record more than a billion minutes of viewing for the week. The others are Netflix’s movie Rebel Ridge (1.11 billion), Family Guy (1.06 billion), Prison Break (1.05 billion) — which had been the overall No. 1 for the previous four weeks — and The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (1.02 billion), which was even with its season two premiere a week earlier.

Let's talk about TV ratings! What shows are doing well and which are tanking? The new hot show on the block this week is The Penguin, a spinoff of The Batman starring a heavily made-up Colin Farrell as Oswald Cobb, Batman's nemesis in the making. Critics, including us, love the gritty, Sopranos-esque crime drama, and it looks like viewers are right there with us. Per Variety, HBO says that The Penguin nabbed 5.3 million viewers for its premiere episode within four days of its release across both HBO and Max. That's better than the season 4 premiere of Succession and the season 2 premiere of The White Lotus, two other top-tier HBO dramas, although below the take for the season 4 premiere of True Detective: Night Country. And The Penguin got the best numbers for a new series on Max since 2022's The Last of Us.

“The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” debuted its second season as Nielsen’s No. 2 most-watched streaming program in the last week of August.

The Prime Video series, which released the first three episodes of Season 2 on Thursday, Aug. 29, logged 1.015 billion minutes viewed across its 11 existing episodes during the interval of Aug. 26-Sept. 1, according to Nielsen. “The Rings of Power” stood as the most-watched original streaming show during the week, but was outpaced on the overall streaming list by “Prison Break.”

The second season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power opened to big viewing numbers in the United States — just not as big as its first season.

The Prime Video series amassed 1.02 billion minutes of viewing in the United States for the week of Aug. 26-Sept. 1, good for first place among original series and second among all titles in Nielsen’s streaming rankings. Season two premiered on Aug. 29 with three episodes, and Nielsen says about 70 percent of the show’s weekly total was for those three, with the remainder devoted to season one. (Viewing totals on the ratings service’s charts cover all episodes of a series.)

This does, however, mark a drop in viewership from the opening of Season 1. In 2022, the series debuted with 1.3 billion minutes watched — and that was spread across only two episodes. If Season 1 had dropped with three episodes as Season 2 did, its total would have been even higher. Additionally, the new billion-minute total also accounts for all viewership of Season 1 during the week of Aug. 26 to Sept. 1, during which many viewers were likely rewatching earlier episodes or discovering them for the first time.
