After failing to get into the police academy, Chris Potamitis (Liam Hemsworth), settles for a security guard job with the EMPIRE STATE Armored Truck Company. Chris makes the mistake of mentioning the companyÂ’s lax security to his best friend, Eddie (Michael Angarano), and is soon unwittingly drawn into an elaborate scheme to rob the abundant amounts of cash being stored there - resulting in the largest cash heist in U.S. History. As the stakes continue to rise, Chris and Eddie must outwit James Ransone (Dwayne Â“The RockÂ” Johnson), the veteran NYPD Detective that is hot on their trail, as well as the local crime bosses that want to know who pulled a job on their turf, or suffer the consequences.

It could have been far better

The story has a very nice and potential background as its base. But it turned out that the movie didn't really took advantage of this in the development and execution. The opening looks quite nice with the back and forth flow of the story, starting the story near the ending point, and the quick story buildup between the start and the conflict revelation. But then it plunges into mediocrity, and quite honestly boredom, since the movie decreased its speed significantly and let the drama and investigation set in more dominantly. The action also don't take long when they happen. Too much use of close up angles combined with the very quick camera movement with less shot accuracy takes precious split seconds at those sequences to refocus on what we are viewing.The acting seems just a standard job in overall. It's a bad surprise considering the potentials of Dwayne Johnson and Liam Hemsworth.

Chris Potamitis was in real life the security guard who looked the other way, when the actual million dollar heist took place. He got 9 years in jail for his crime, but he is now a free man again. A short real life interview clip of him is featured during the end credits. It is suggested in that interview, that he is the only person who knows where the missing million dollars of the heist are. This convicted security guard now has financed (co-produced) this movie about his own heist.

Goofs
The story is taking place in the early 1980s (based on a real robbery that occurred in 1982) but the Armored vehicles used in the film are Ford F chassis that are too new for the time, having been 1995 or newer Fords.
