Since its debut in 2006 – and before Warner Bros. and CBS Corporation merged into this network – The The CW was already responsible for some of the biggest mainstream TV series in history. These TV shows are so popular that even people who haven't watched them have surely heard about them. Similarly, many people know the basic premise of many of these series without actually watching them.
Not only is The CW responsible for some truly iconic shows, but several of these series run for many years, with the longest-running show being Supernatural, which has 15 seasons and a spin-off in progress. From shows from the 2000s, like Smallville, to more recent TV series, such as Riverdale, these CW shows have hugely impacted popular culture. Undoubtedly, The CW has made a significant impact, from memes to cultural investments to series finales to definitive depictions of superheroes.

Filming is underway in Louisiana on the new psychological horror movie Lake Vernon, and Variety has announced the cast this morning.
Former NFL star turned filmmaker Vernon Davis (The Ritual Killer) produces and stars in the film alongside Malcolm Goodwin (“Reacher”), David Anders (“The Vampire Diaries”), Olivia Grace Applegate (“Love and Death”), Andrea Sixtos (“Arrow”) and Tommy Wiseau (Big Shark).
Not only does Davis star and produce, but Lake Vernon is adapted from a story by Davis and Tiffany Toney. The story was adapted for the screen by director Aaron Jay Rome and writer/producer Isaiah Laborde.
In the film, “Old wounds resurface when a fractured group of friends reunites for a weekend retreat at an exclusive lakeside sanctuary,” the film’s official logline reads. “As buried tensions and unspoken betrayals bubble to the surface, the lake itself seems to be listening — watching — offering impossible miracles at a cost none of them understand.

Throughout its run, Two and a Half Men became one of the most successful sitcoms on television, largely due to the comedic chemistry between Charlie Sheen and Jon Cryer. However, after Sheen’s highly publicized departure in 2011, the series struggled to maintain its original charm.

Though Ashton Kutcher joined the show as Sheen’s replacement, the magic that once made the show a ratings powerhouse was gone. Cryer, who took on the lead after Sheen’s exit, had the opportunity to redefine the show’s dynamic. However, his level of enthusiasm for the show never quite matched the passion he later displayed for his role as Lex Luthor in the Arrowverse.

Katie Cassidy played Arrow's Laurel Lance and while her transformation into Black Canary was a little convoluted, fans embraced the character and weren't happy when she died in season 4.

During an interview with Michael Rosenbaum, Cassidy reflected on being dropped from the series and initially not being concerned about Black Canary being in the grave when the season 4 premiere aired. However, things changed in the build to that year's New York Comic Con.

With her role as Laurel Lance, also known as Black Canary, Katie Cassidy played one of the biggest roles on the hit Arrowverse series Arrow. At one point, however, she was killed off, a decision that gave her a flurry of emotions at the time.
Cassidy discussed her time on Arrow during a recent interview for the Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum podcast, per Deadline. She recalled how she learned of Black Canary's death in 2016 after she served as a big part of Arrow for the first four seasons. Famously, the season started with the reveal that a character's death would happen, though it wasn't until later that it was revealed to be Laurel. Despite that big tease, Cassidy was still quite shocked when she realized she was the one on the chopping block.

Though "The Dark Knight" is obviously the more successful of the Christopher Nolan movies, and one of the 100 best movies of all time according by our standards, some believe it's not the best Batman movie Nolan made. That honor could go to "Batman Begins," a movie that feels more like a comic book movie than a James Bond story, a movie with fantastic production design that doesn't just look like New York City or Chicago. Instead, the film introduces Kowloon-inspired slum district of the Narrows that has become a big part of Batman mythos. "Batman Begins" also has one of the best Bat-suits in film and some incredible visuals in its recreations of all-time great scenes from Frank Miller's "Batman: Year One."

In 2021, Doctor Who and Arrow star John Barrowman saw his career virtually end overnight following allegations of inappropriate behavior while working on the series over a decade earlier. Having played the incredibly popular role of Captain Jack Harkness in Doctor Who throughout Christopher Eccleston and David Tennant’s eras, as well as in a 2021 Christmas special, Barrowman was “blacklisted” when he was accused of “flashing” and acting in an unacceptable way during this time on the series. In a new interview, the actor has clarified the events that were deemed inappropriate, and once again reiterated that he doesn’t feel he needs to be regretful for anything.
Barrowman was a regular fixture on British TV and stage, combining acting roles with presenting jobs to become a much-loved personality in many households. Rarely do shows become even bigger after their original run, but Suits has enjoyed such success. The legal drama series received an immense surge in popularity after it became available for streaming on Netflix and Peacock. Data from Nielsen reveals that the New York-set show was watched for a total of57.7 billion minutes on Netflix in 2023, making it the most-streamed series that year. As expected, NBCUniversal began thinking of expansion. The studio developed a new spin-off series, titled Suits LA, starring Stephen Amell (better known for his work in Arrow), which is currently airing.
Regrettably, Suits LA hasn’t been a major hit with critics. The offshoot currently has a 37% Rotten Tomatoes score, while the parent had 91%. That’s something to worry about, but things can always change. A few characters from the original are rumored to show up down the line, so the quality might improve. In the meantime,...

Hello, “You.”
All eyes are on Penn Badgley‘s Joe Goldberg in the trailer for the fifth and final season of psychological thriller series.
“You” centers on Joe, a book-loving hopeless romantic with a penchant for stalking and killing the women he claims to love, as well as anyone who gets in his way. While Joe’s search for The One began in New York, it took him to Los Angeles in Season 2, then to the suffocating suburbs of San Francisco in Season 3, and then to London in Season 4.
Across the pond, Joe was thrown into a 1%-skewering whodunit that forced him finally to accept he’s not a good man — an undeniable truth he avoided for far too long as bodies piled up around him. At the season’s conclusion, Joe returned to the Big Apple with his wealthy partner Kate Galvin and a new lease on life… or so it seems.

“I can’t sing and I can’t dance,” Mildred Burke tells her future manager, husband, business partner (and later ex-husband and rival) Billy Wolfe. “But I can tell a story and beat some ass.”
What a story, and what an ass-beating. “Queen of the Ring” is a wide-eyed and inspirational biopic about Burke, born Mildred Bliss, who defied gender norms, broke arbitrary laws separating and limiting the participation of all genders in sports, and shattered the glass ceiling. She was a single mother, an entrepreneur and I hope I never get punched as hard as she can punch. At a time when women’s wrestling was outlawed throughout much of the United States, she not only proved it could be done, but also that it could be profitable as hell.
Mildred Burke is played by Emily Bett Rickards, who is best known for playing the hacker Felicity Smoak on the superhero TV series “Arrow.

The world of professional wrestling has always tried to blur the lines between fiction and reality, and last night's red carpet event for Queen of the Ring continued that trend when star Toni Storm got into a heated confrontation with Mariah May. For those not in the know, yes, this was a wrestling angle, but it only served to highlight the fact that the sport is nothing if not entertaining. Storm portrays Clara Mortensen in the new biopic, which comes from director Ash Avildsen and examines how wrestler Mildred Burke became the first million-dollar female athlete in history.
The brouhaha occurred during a Queen of the Ring event that had all the stars on hand to walk the red carpet for photographers and journalists. Storm was posing for the cameras when the glamorous May came out of nowhere and delivered a devastating slap that sent Storm crashing to the ground...

The Batman villain Harley Quinn made her debut on the "Batman: The Animated Series" episodes "Joker's Favor", where she was voiced by actress Arleen Sorkin. The character was envisioned as a clown-like moll for the Joker, and was given a ditzy personality and a broad Noo Yawk accent. She proved to be so popular that she was eventually incorporated into Batman comic books, and soon grew to have titles of her own. Over the years, Harley Quinn has appeared in multiple TV shows and movies, most recently played in live-action by Lady Gaga in "Joker: Folie à Deux."
Fun trivia: Harley Quinn was actually preceded by a very, very similar character called Prank (Corinne Bohrer), a clown-like moll to a very Joker-like villain named the Trickster (Mark Hamill) on a 1991 episode of "The Flash." Whether or not the makers of "Batman: The Animated Series" were aware of Prank is a matter of speculation.

Shortly after Smallville concluded on The CW, the network launched its next superhero TV series in 2012 with Arrow. Stephen Amell was cast as Green Arrow and, as the years passed, his show spawned several spin-offs and a shared DC Universe later dubbed the "Arrowverse."
The show's achievements are undeniable but it had a lot of "CW-isms." Among them was giving Green Arrow a geeky female sidekick in Emily Bett Rickards' Felicity Smoak, the spiritual successor to Smallville's Chloe Sullivan.
Felicity was soon established as Oliver Queen's true love, a decision that upset those eager to see his romance with Black Canary fully explored.
Doing the rounds to promote her new movie, Queen of the Ring, Rickards - who plays wrestling legend Mildred Burke in the biopic - reflected on needing a thick skin in response to the criticisms.

Queen of the Ring star Emily Bett Rickards isn't scared to face wrestling's rabid fanbase. The former Arrow ensemble member will draw their attention when she takes to the silver screen as wrestling legend Mildred Burke in an upcoming biopic, but she developed a knack for braving backlash during her time in the CW's DC universe as Felicity Smoak.
"When I was on Arrow, I quickly realized how passionate comic book fans can be," said the CWveteran in an interview with TV Insider, confessing "At one point, I had to have a really long talk with my therapist, asking, 'Okay, so what is all this energy? I don’t really understand it.'"
The actress claims she had to develop "skin like a rhino" and "heart like a rose" to be able to achieve that understanding. She now acknowledges criticism often stems from passion, not malice alone.

Big studios are always in competition with streaming services. However, the success some titles have on online platforms proves there is a way for all films to become successful, even when they're not big hits at the box office.

David Johansen, the pioneering vocalist known for his work with New York Dolls and his persona Buster Poindexter, has died. He was 75 years old.
According to a statement from his publicist, Johansen “died at home in New York City on Friday afternoon holding hands with his wife Mara Hennessey and daughter Leah, surrounded by music, flowers, and love. He was 75-years-old and died of natural causes after nearly a decade of illness.”
Johansen had been battling stage four cancer and a brain tumor, and had kept the situation private for a number of years. After a fall that broke his back in two places last November, though, things had taken a turn for the worst, leading him to reveal his diagnosis and ask for financial help in January 2025.
Born David Roger Johansen on January 9th, 1950 in New York City, Johansen first rose to prominence performing with local groups on Staten Island.

TV fans watched her light up the superhero world as Felicity Smoak on eight seasons of Arrow. Now, Emily Bett Rickards takes on an entirely new challenge: portraying legendary 1930s pro wrestler Mildred Burke in Queen of the Ring, a big-screen adaption of Jeff Leen’s biography of the same name that hits theaters on March 7. As a groundbreaking figure for athletes, entertainers, and women in general, Burke’s story is inspirational, and Rickards has already received strong acclaim for her performance after the film premiered at the Buffalo Film Festival last year. TV Insider chatted with the Canadian-born star about being hooked by Mildred’s attitude, the real-life physical rigors of transforming into a pro wrestler, and why Arrow and pro wrestling fans may be more alike than you think. We are inching closer to the official theatrical release of Queen of the Ring. How are you feeling about it?...

The DC Multiverse owes a lot to Greg Berlanti, given that the producer extraordinaire was responsible for the immensely successful DC TV-verse, which aired on CW. This included Arrow, which kicked off the franchise on the small screen, followed by shows like Supergirl, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, and so on.

For a long time, the Green Lantern IP was kept on the sidelines after the debacle of the 2011 movie, which was originally meant to be the first entry in Warner Bros’ planned DC film universe. 2025 has just begun and so many movies have already made an impact on audiences. With the rise in horror movies like Companion and The Monkey and a new addition to the MCU, Captain America: Brave New World, 2025 has already solidified itself as a fascinating year for movies. Mirroring previous years in writing, direction, and overall cinematic spectacle, 2025 promises a variety of films that will inspire audiences for years to come.
It's usually assumed that films released in the earlier months of the year may not capture as much attention or acclaim as later releases. This has been disproved with 2024 releases Dune: Part Two, released on March 1, and Challengers, released on April 26. As the Winter months dwindle and Spring brings about warm weather and new releases, movie-goers are excited to see this lineup of films appear on the big screen.

The Lord of the Rings is one of the most beloved franchises of all time and for good reason. J. R. R. Tolkien fans are nothing if not loyal to many branches of the franchise, from Tolkien's original novels to the Peter Jackson films, and even Prime Video's original series, The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power (2022-present). It's safe to say that The Lord of the Rings is still alive and kicking and isn't likely to go anywhere anytime soon.
That said, Rings of Power has been a bit divisive among fans. While the series has decent critic reviews and solid audience scores, some viewers have taken it upon themselves to nitpick every detail in the series. Everything is under a microscope, from how much the show changes Tolkien's canon, to the fight sequences. While Rings of Power is an overall impressive series, there are still plenty of...

Welcome back to Origins, our recurring series that gives artists a space to break down everything that went into their latest release. Today, indie folk favorites The Head and the Heart return to announce their sixth album, Aperture, and break down “After the Setting Sun.”
The Head and the Heart are back to announce their sixth album, Aperture, set for release on May 9th (pre-orders are ongoing). To go along with the announcement, Consequence is premiering the album’s lead single, “After the Setting Sun,” and sharing the band’s Origins breakdown.
Aperture arrives with a sense of new for The Head and the Heart. For one, it’s their first release since signing to Verve Forecast, joining fellow folk and Americana talents like Madison Cunningham and Joy Oladokun. But perhaps more crucially, the project is the band’s first entirely self-produced album, and their first with a brand new songwriting style.
