"Grey's Anatomy" alum Jesse Williams balances his busy acting career with being a father of two. The star made his onscreen debut on "Law & Order" in 2006 and later became a household name after landing the role of Jackson Avery in "Grey's Anatomy," which he starred in from 2009 to 2022. Along with his role on the long-lasting medical drama, Williams has also appeared in a variety of films, ranging from "The Butler" to "Secret Headquarters," and most recently, Netflix's "Your Place or Mine." Off screen and on stage, Williams recently played Darren Lemming in the 2022 revival of "Take Me Out," which earned him a Tony nomination for best featured actor in a play.
When he isn't working, Williams shares parenting duties with his ex-wife, Aryn Drake-Lee. The two met in 2007 and married in September 2012, as reported by People. The two kept their relationship out of the spotlight and privately welcomed their two children,...

Sarah Drew basically said the play was a home run! Jesse Williams' new role in Broadway play, Take Me Out, features some nudity from the former Grey's Anatomy star. But in a recent E! News exclusive interview, Sarah—who is returning to the long-running ABC medical drama alongside Jesse for the 400th episode—showed support for her former co-star. Specifically, the actress defended that the nudity in the show is "art." "The funny thing about the show, is the nudity is not shocking," Sarah explained. "There's so much of it, the entire row of baseball players is just naked and you just see everybody naked, so by the time Jesse's naked, it's like,...

Broadway’s 2021-22 season – 10 weeks shorter than usual, plagued by Covid and the cancelations it caused, not to mention the tourists who didn’t show up – took a beating at the box office, with season-end numbers no less stark for being expected: The industry took in a total of 845,354,915 at the box office, down about 54 from the the historic high of 1.829 billion set by the 2018-19 Broadway season (the last full season prior to the 2020 pandemic shutdown).
Figures compiled by the Broadway League released today indicate that total attendance for the season was 6,729,143, also down 54 from the 2019 record high of 14,768,254. Despite the year-to-year downturn, the percentage of available seats that were filled during the 2021-22 season was a solid 82.
Some major caveats in a year-to-year analysis: The start of the season that came to a close on May 22 was delayed by 10 weeks due to the Covid shutdown, meaning the season...

Winners of the 88th Annual Drama League Awards were announced on Friday, May 20 2022 at a ceremony hosted by Emmy Award-winning journalist Frank Dilella at the Ziegfeld Ballroom. The Drama League Awards honor both Broadway and Off-Broadway productions from the 2021-2022 theater season.
Tony Awards frontrunners mostly dominated the production categories. Best Musical went to “A Strange Loop,” Best Play went to “The Lehman Trilogy,” and Best Revival of a Musical was handed to “Company.” The Second Stage Theater production of “Take Me Out” prevailed in the hotly competitive Best Revival of a Play category.
The winners of the Drama League’s inaugural categories for direction of a musical and play went to Marianne Elliott (“Company”) and Kate Whoriskey (“Clyde’s”), respectively. Elliott sits far out front in the corresponding Tony race, though Whoriskey’s triumph comes as a surprise. This frequent collaborator of Lynn Nottage failed to earn a Tony nomination,...

Last week’s Tony Award nominations translated into box office sales for at least some of the contenders, with A Strange Loop seeing the biggest boost. The musical, which topped the Tony list with 11 nominations, saw a 213,871 increase in its weekly grosses, taking in 690,668 for the week ending May 15.
Overall, the 35 Broadway productions grossed 30,349,653, a slight 3 dip from the previous week’s 31,199,660, a decline largely attributable to the 1,054,792 drop in box office at Moulin Rouge! The Musical, which canceled four of its usual eight performances due to Covid cases among the cast. Moulin, with Broadway favorite Derek Klena now leading the cast, took in 537,705 for four performances, filling 91 of available seats.
Also losing ground was Lincoln Center Theater’s The Skin of Our Teeth, which canceled three performances due to Covid, dropping 58,736 from the previous week to 115,745 for its five performances.
Total attendance for the 35 productions was 246,003, down about 1 from...

Audra McDonald is the most lauded Broadway performer winning a whopping six Tony Awards in both musical and dramatic categories. And she may be receiving her seventh for the revival of “Frankie and Johnny in the Clair du Lune” when the 74th annual Tonys take place Sept. 26th at the venerable Winter Garden Theatre.
Despite that record, it took a long time for Black artists to be acknowledged by the Tonys, which were first handed out in 1947. It wasn’t until 2004 that a Black actress won for a lead performance in a play: Phylicia Rashad broke this barrier with her win for a revival of Lorraine Hansberry’s “A Raisin in the Sun.” Hansberry was the first Black artist to be nominated for Best Play in 1960 for the original production of “A Raisin in the Sun” as were its director Lloyd Richards and stars, Sidney Poitier and Claudia McNeil.

Alexandra Billings, a trans actor who made Broadway history when cast as Wicked‘s Madam Morrible in 2020, has issued a strong rebuke to Cameron Mackintosh over comments the British theater producer made opposing the casting of trans performers in classic roles.
In the post addressed to “Sir Cameron,” Billings writes, in part, “I am an actor. I am Mame and I am Madame Rose. I am Miss Hannigan and I am Annie Oakley and I am Fantine…I am an actor, Mr Mackintosh, not a gimmick.” (Read the full post below.)
Billings’ comment was a response to an interview Mackintosh gave to UK’s Telegraph last week, in which the producer of the West End’s Les Miserables, Phantom Of The Opera and Hamilton said he would not be in favor of casting a transgender actor in the lead role of his Mary Poppins West End musical because the tale is “not about that,...

Jesse Williams may have found his next series. The Grey’s Anatomy alum has been tapped as a lead opposite Aubrey Plaza and Ramón Rodríguez in Olga Dies Dreaming, Hulu’s one-hour drama pilot based on the novel by Xochitl Gonzalez.
The pilot for Olga Dies Dreaming, written by Gonzalez and to be directed by Alfonso Gomez-Rejon, tells the story of a Nuyorican brother (Rodríguez) and sister (Plaza) from a gentrifying Sunset Park in Brooklyn who are reckoning with their absent, politically radical mother and their glittering careers among New York City’s elite in the wake of Hurricane Maria.
Williams will play Matteo who is a collector: of music, of objects, of trivia, and mainly, of opinions. A passionate Brooklynite, he won’t just tell you where to find the best slice, he’ll drive you there to get it. He’d come across as a know it all if,...

The first season of HBO's drama The Leftovers was one of the most divisive 10 episodes in recent television history. Supporters hailed it as a dark and intelligent allegory for surviving trauma, while detractors slammed it as 'grief porn.' However, Season 2 has been able to maintain the show's intense mystery, while creating a more thrilling, less depressing, motif. One of the major changes was the introduction of Erika and John Murphy and their twin teenagers. Erika, played by recent Emmy-winner Regina King, is a hearing-impaired doctor, while her husband, played by Kevin Carroll Broadway's Angels In America, Take Me Out, and more is a convicted felon turned vigilante fire captain.

Saturday nights are no longer for going out - The X Factor is finally returning to our small screens this weekend with new hosts, a fresh judging panel and a fair few format shake-ups.
But whatever happened to the finalists of the first ever series - "barking bloody mad" Rowetta Satchell, red-haired wannabe rocker Tabby Callaghan, cheesy best friend duo 2 to Go and eventual winner Steve Brookstein?
Roberta Howett
Roberta Howett went from unhappy telecommunications worker to Louis Walsh's Dublin darling after her successful X Factor audition. But perhaps it was the curse of the Walsh that resulted in her early exit from the series when she became the first act to be eliminated.
Now 33, Roberta appeared on the debut album of Spanish composer Toni Castells in 2007. She finally released her debut album in 2010, its lead single 'Beautiful Lies' became her first Top 40 single in the Irish Singles Chart,...

Mark Wright is the latest reality star jetting off to the Love Island villa.
The newlywed former Towie cast member will be taking to the decks as the resident DJ at islander Lauren Richardson's birthday party on Sunday night (July 12).
"I'm really excited to be going in to DJ at Lauren's party," said Wright. "I've been addicted to Love Island and I'll be making sure I get all the gossip whilst I'm in there."
Wright is pretty familiar with ITV2 dating shows, serving as co-host of Take Me Out's spinoff show The Gossip since 2012.
He's also no stranger to island paradises either, recently flying off into the sunshine for a tropical honeymoon with his actress wife Michelle Keegan.
The pair tied the knot at a lavish country house ceremony in May.
Mark Wright's Love Island appearance will air on Tuesday (July 14) on ITV2.

It's exactly five weeks until the General Election and with the first week of campaigning nearly finished, all seven main party leaders turned up to ITV Studios tonight (April 2) to debate four main issues and tell voters their policies.
David Cameron for the Conservatives, Ed Miliband the Labour Party, the Lib Dem's Nick Clegg, Nigel Farage of Ukip, leader of the Green Party Natalie Bennet, Nicola Sturgeon for the Snp and Leanne Wood of Plaid Cymru all took to their podiums and discussed the economy, immigration, the NHS and education.
And here's what Twitter thought of the two-hour programme:
The set's blue hue and sheer number of podiums required for all seven leaders brought one TV show in particular to mind:
