Keep your Criterion Closet. For pure entertainment value, we’ll take Kyle Mooney’s Plastic Bag O’ VHS Tapes. Rooney showed up on Late Night with Seth Meyers last night to promote his movie Y2K, and in keeping with the ‘90s theme, he ridiculed some of his favorite VHS tapes from back in the day. Here are some of the gems in his collection, both from last night and other Mooney appearances over the years:
Moviemakers could have chosen a title like Fantastic Future or Back in the Day, Mooney said, but instead, they decided to go with the most unexciting choice imaginable: Present Time. The producers also targeted a very narrow demographic: ages 8 to 13. “So if you’re 7 or 14, sorry, guys,” Mooney said.
“They’re like, ‘Trust me. At 14, you think this movie stinks,’” laughed Meyers.
What, Meyers wondered, are those kids doing with the paint guy?
“They learn about baggage transport,...

While France has a deeply entrenched cinema tradition, drama series have been gaining tremendous ground within the country’s cultural landscape within the past few years, with some of the country’s biggest producers, stars and filmmakers venturing into ambitious television projects. The 3-month-old merger of UniFrance and TV France Intl., the country’s film and audiovisual promotion organizations, into a single entity is probably the best illustration of this blended world.
The growing presence of global streaming services, especially Netflix, in the TV space has played a key role in bolstering a talent drain, catapulting French stars, such as Omar Sy with the Gaumont-produced show “Lupin,” to international recognition. Although Sy broke through a decade ago with the smash hit French comedy “Intouchables,” “Lupin” allowed him to reach many more viewers around the world. Friends: The Reunion satisfied fans on so many levels, as it brought everyone back together and in such a unique and nostalgic way. And as it crammed in as many cast members as possible to get insight into their time on the show and where they think their characters would be today, most fans felt it was a perfect substitute for a proper scripted reunion episode.

Friends: The Reunion sparked some criticism over its "lack of diversity," and director Ben Winston has responded to the backlash. Last month, the reunion special premiered on HBO Max, featuring all six of the show's original stars along with a variety of special guests. Though many fans enjoyed the reunion, there were some critics who questioned why Black actors who guest starred on Friends weren't included, concluding that the special was not diverse enough.
Speaking with The Sunday Times, Winston was asked about the perceived lack of diversity in Friends: The Reunion. For his part, the director says that the people making those claims "haven't seen it," insisting that the special was in fact very diverse. Here's how Winston explains it, straight from the interview.
"We have Malala, Mindy Kaling, BTS [the South Korean boy band]. There are three women from Ghana, one who talks about how Friends saved her life. Two boys from Kenya.

The Friends reunion reignited fan passion in the iconic sitcom from the '90s and early '00s. For the first time in 17 years, the main cast members were all together in the same room to reminisce about their time on the show. Along with the main cast getting together with host James Corden to discuss the series, plenty of other supporting characters returned to participate.

After a very long wait, Friends: The Reunion has just premiered on HBO Max, but don't expect this to mean that a series revival or movie adaptation is on the way. The new special features all six main cast members - Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry, and David Schwimmer - getting back together again to reminisce about the series. Several special guests also appear on the program as well.
The Friends actors do sort-of recreate the famous trivia game scene from the series, but is there a chance they'll soon be back in character for a genuine revival, whether that be through another spinoff or even a reunion movie? Any fans wanting that to happen shouldn't be holding their breath. In a new interview with THR, series creators Marta Kauffman and David Crane, along with executive producer and director Kevin Bright completely shut down the idea.

Fans of the iconic '90s sitcom Friends had been anxiously awaiting the Friends: The Reunion special (official name Friends: The One Where They Got Back Together), which had to be delayed due to Covid-19, but it finally aired on HBO Max and, for many, it was totally worth the wait.

Back in the day, this would have been a nice touch as Bonus Feature on a Collector's Edition DVD set. In the streaming era, when right marketing can trend just about anything that can be dropped on Ott, the pop hysteria about "Friends" renders reason enough for an event release. The hype about the special seemed obvious pre-release.
"Friends: The Reunion" was never really meant to reload the hysteria. The purpose was always to remind the world that the hysteria still exists. Seventeen years after the original series ended its decade's run, the reunion special was essentially aimed at reiterating the fact that nostalgia around the series is still intact.
Creators Kevin S. Bright, David Crane and Marta Kauffman have wisely gone for an unscripted format, aware perhaps that no amount of smart storywriting could create an episode that would let them avoid comparisons with an original series that continues to draw overwhelming sentimental appeal.

As professed by Monica E. Geller herself, “The One with the Embryos” is certainly among the very best episodes of “Friends.” Valid arguments against its No. 1 ranking would have to highlight Phoebe’s absence from the heated trivia game. After all, there are great bottle episodes featuring the whole Central Perk crew (like “The One Where No One’s Ready”), great episodes grounded in reveals (“The One Where Everyone Finds Out”), romance (“The One With the Proposal”), and routines (“The One With the Routine”), and, of course, there are the Thanksgiving episodes (“The One Where Ross Got High” tops among them).
But really, “The One With the Embryos” isn’t just a flawless episode of television; it’s a flawless episode of “Friends,” in that it illustrates just how deeply the creative team understood their show. Lifting Phoebe out of the A-plot actually works in her favor, since learning facts...

“They just don’t make ’em like they used to.” It’s a phrase that definitely applies to today’s Hollywood. Digital cameras and computer animation have revolutionized the way the industry works, and those who’ve been in the business long enough have seen a seismic shift in the way movies are made. Spencer's dad is back.
We knew this day would come eventually, and now that it's happened, we're left with even more questions.
His surprise return on All American Season 1 Episode 13 threw Spencer off his game, but no matter what is revealed, we know he'll find a way to bounce back.
Spencer is forced to dig deep when his teacher threatens to bench him for the playoffs if he doesn't improve his essay. He has to write about his biggest influence, and a football player just isn't going to cut it.
His teammate got away with writing about The Rock, but it's obvious that this teacher sees something more in Spencer, and threatening football was the only way to draw it out of him.

There are many, many questions that will be asked the days, weeks, and months ahead following Disney‘s deal for Fox. One of the many queries being pondered is whether or not the squeaky clean Disney will be willing to sully their family brand with some adult oriented grit. Back in the day, the studio reached the non-kid market thanks to movie arms like Miramax and Touchstone Pictures, but in recent years, they’ve strictly stayed in the all-ages, four-quadrant vein.

Guy takes a belated look at the fourth (but possibly not final) film in the Lethal Weapon franchise…
Spoilers lie ahead for Lethal Weapons 2 to 4.
See related The Oa: 10 questions (sort of) answered The Oa: Netflix renews for season 2 Netflix's The Oa: spoiler-free review
At the beginning of 2016, Den of Geek gave me the opportunity to rank the Lethal Weapon films in order of merit and then write about each one individually. This made me very happy, as it is a franchise for which I have a great deal of passion – both positive and negative. But like a reluctant hit man stuck in a clichéd redemption arc, I just couldn’t finish the job.
By the time I had produced a well-reasoned account of why the third in the series was objectively the worst – an assertion I still stand by, despite what you’re about to read...

Amber Portwood has had enough.
Monday night’s episode of Teen Mom Og picked up on Portwood’s fight with Matt Baier after she told him she wanted to put their engagement on the backburner.
Leaving in a rage, Baier packed up a few of his things and drove off, while Portwood spent time with her mother and brother.
“He told me that we could separate our bank accounts if it makes me feel good,” Portwood told her brother. “Within the last three years we’ve been together, tallying everything up, it’s been $120,000 that I have no clue where it’s went.

A long time ago, a grade-schooler got his hands on a spaceship. He followed the assembly instructions as best he could, snapping on the cannons, the landing gear, the tiny interstellar-chess table. Soon enough, Rian Johnson was holding his very own Millennium Falcon. "The first thing I did," he recalls, "was throw it across the room, to see how it would look flying." He grins. "And it broke."

DeGeneres had an interpreter on hand, but it turns out some members of the group speak English rather well, thanks to a little help from their Friends!

Ahead of the release of Doctor Who series 10 on DVD and Blu-ray – it lands on Monday, and is available digitally now – outgoing showrunner Steven Moffat did a select few interviews to chat about the show. And he saved one for us.
It was refreshing that, having got lost myself on the way to the interview venue in the depths of London, Moffat himself managed to as well. Apologetic for arriving ten minutes late for our chat, he insisted on adding those minutes to the end of our time, and that’s not something that happens very often with interviews.
With that in mind, we settled down for a long chat about the show, the environment it exists in, and series 10 itself…

Elsa Hosk makes pleather look good. Back in the day, imitation leather, which oftentimes had a shiny finish, didn't have a great reputation among the fashion set, with many describing the look as cheap or tacky. Celebs either wore it like a costume (think: Missy Elliott in that Supa Dupa Fly black bodysuit) or as a raincoat. Well, now the Victoria's Secret model is showing us how to incorporate it in our cold-season wardrobe in the most flattering way. Elsa paired an oversize Pvc, or vinyl-like, jacket with a Jean Atelier bustier denim mini-dress and combat boots. Pairing the shiny material with a naturally stiff and textured fabric helps to modernize the look. Just remember to wear a...

If you're an '80s kid or a '90s kid, Winona Ryder was pretty much the epitome of indie cool. And then, much like her TV son Will Byers, she disappeared. For those who need a refresher: Back in the day, the doe-eyed darling lit up the screen with her broody, but approachable ways in a slew of iconic films, like Heathers, Beetlejuice and Reality Bites. But then the 2000s hit and so did controversy. The actress caused a pop-culture moment (complete with the catchy "Free Winona" slogan) when she was arrested for shoplifting in 2001. Soon after, the former teen star stepped away from the limelight and Hollywood, still appearing in films but none that gained much notoriety, save...
