Now that we know the Jason Statham action sequel The Beekeeper 2 is officially happening, genre fans are buzzing and have found the perfect martial arts icon to join The Stath in the highly anticipated follow-up. Taking to social media, Statham fans are pleading with The Beekeeper 2 director Timo Tjahjanto to add The Raid star Iko Uwais to proceedings, with X/Twitter user @Dedikur21 kicking things off by saying, “I beg you work with Iko Uwais again and cast him in Beekeeper 2. Make a proper round 2 for this two.”
Jason Statham and Iko Uwais have shared the screen, and exchanged punches, before in 2023’s Expend4bles. Sadly, while both actors committed to kicking each other to death, both the movie and the fight scene were ultimately a disappointment. Following his star rising thanks to his role in The Raid and The Raid 2, Hollywood has struggled to give Iko Uwais...

After waiting several years for its arrival, the action movie majesty of Havoc, which sees The Raid director Gareth Evans join forces with Oscar-nominee Tom Hardy for this Netflix thriller, is almost upon us. And it certainly sounds like it could boast not just one of Hardy’s best performances, but Havoc has the potential to be one of the best action movies of all time, with Evans promising that the actor is in “f*cking beast mode.”
Speaking with Empire, who have also revealed a new image from Havoc which you can check out below, Evans teased how Havoc will differ from his previous action masterpieces The Raid and The Raid 2. Havoc will involve far more gunplay, and a little less martial arts, than Evans’ previous works, with Hardy at the center as an unstoppable, granite-built action hero.

Gareth Evans’ Havoc has been a long time coming, but the gritty action flick is finally set to be released next month on Netflix. As a massive fan of The Raid and The Raid 2, I’m hugely excited to see what Evans has up his sleeve this time. The director told Empire that Havoc marks a shift from martial arts action to gritty gunplay and that Tom Hardy was more than up for the challenge.
“It was never going to be a martial-arts film,” Evans explained. “I wanted this to feel like the gunplay stuff that I love watching… Tom came to us in f***ing beast mode. I tapped him on the shoulder and it was just like granite. He came fully physically prepared.“

Havocwriter and director Gareth Evans explains how his upcoming Netflix action movie features Tom Hardy in "f*cking beast mode." Known for directing action movies like The Raid: Redemption (2011) and The Raid 2 (2014), Evans' new movie follows Hardy's Walker, a detective who must fight his way through the criminal underworld to rescue a kidnapped politician's son. In addition to Hardy, the Havoc cast features Forest Whitaker, Timothy Olyphant, and Luiz Guzmán, with the initial teaser trailer promising that the film will be a violent ride for audiences.
In a recent interview with Empire ahead of the Havoc release on Netflix on April 25, Evans previews some of what's to come from the film. The movie will mark a subtle shift away from something like The Raid 2 in the sense that Evans says, “It was never going to be a martial-arts film." Gareth Evans is undeniably one of the greatest action directors working today. And now, over a decade after he delivered The Raid 2, he’s back with his first action movie since that head-exploding sequel. Make way for Havoc, a bruising crime thriller packed with wince-worthy action – this time with Tom Hardy in the leading role. And where The Raid and its follow-up leaned into the martial arts prowess of Evans’ regular collaborator Iko Uwais, the brawls in Havoc are tailored to Hardy’s hulking physique.
“It was never going to be a martial-arts film,” Evans tells Empire, speaking to a subtle shift in action sub-genres. “I wanted this to feel like the gunplay stuff that I love watching.” You’ll see Hardy blasting a shotgun above, but Havoc also makes use of the A-lister’s sheer heft. “Tom came to us in fucking beast mode,” says Evans. “I tapped...

“Havoc” is finally here. Almost.
The underworld thriller starring Tom Hardy was announced back in 2021 and it arrives on Netflix on April 25. And now you can watch the brand-new, bone-crunching teaser below.
“Havoc” hails from writer/director Gareth Evans, who wrote and directed modern action classics “The Raid” and “The Raid 2.” His last film was the underrated 2018 Netflix folk horror film “Apostle,” starring Dan Stevens as a man searching for his missing sister on an island gripped by a strange cult. He also co-created “Gangs of London,” the cult series based on the PlayStation game.
The official logline for “Havoc” reads: “Walker (Tom Hardy) is a bruised detective fighting his way through the criminal underworld threatening to engulf his entire city. In the aftermath of a drug deal gone wrong, Walker finds himself with a number of factions on his tail; a vengeful crime syndicate, a crooked politician, as well as his fellow cops.

Buckle up, everyone: Gareth Evans is back in action. Literally. After the gore-strewn one-two punch of The Raid and The Raid 2 – a duology which quite literally reshaped the action movie genre as we know it – the director moved on to gnarly folk horror (Apostle) and small-screen crime sagas (Gangs Of London Season 1). But with his long-awaited Havoc, he’s back in movie mode for the first time since 2017 – and plunging back into the all-out action with which he made his name. And this time, he has a mega A-list star leading the way in the shape of Tom Hardy. The results promise to be thrilling and bruising in equal measure – and the first teaser has arrived, offering a glimpse of the… well, havoc to come.
Boom. This is just a brief look for now, but the combination of Evans and Hardy seems to be as no-holds-barred as you’d hope.

Great action movies come to those who wait, and our patience has finally paid off as, after four years, Tom Hardy and The Raid director Gareth Evans’ Netflix thriller Havoc is all set to land on the streamer later this year. Recent rumors claimed that the action outing would be a lengthy 2 hours and 30 minutes long. However, during yesterday’s “Next on Netflix” event, Evans revealed the real runtime. And while it's considerably shorter, this may, in fact, be a good thing.
Responding to the rumors, the filmmaker revealed that, rather than a sprawling action epic, Havoc will instead be a much tighter, fast-paced fist to the face, and clocks in at “a tight as a drum” 1 hour and 45 minutes. Which, rather than spending time on a lot of chatter, should mean that Hardy and Evans will hit the ground running when Havoc lands on Netflix in the spring. Check...

We have now reached year four of waiting for Tom Hardy to join forces with the director behind The Raid, Gareth Evans, for the Netflix action movie Havoc. But this latest update certainly suggests that it will have been worth the wait. While we have known the plot and the cast for some time, action fans have had to wait patiently for any other information or updates, with this new insight potentially revealing the long-awaited thriller’s epic runtime.
According to World of Reel, various outlets, including IMDb Pro, now have Havoc listed with a runtime of 2 hours 30 minutes, matching Evans’ 2014 martial arts epic The Raid 2. If this is accurate, it should give Hardy and Evans plenty of time to deliver what promises to be a modern classic of the genre as the Oscar-nominee and Venom star takes to the streets as a “bruised detective” who finds himself entering...

Mark Wahlberg’s panned action thriller from 2018 is currently finding new life on streaming. Mile 22, which sees Wahlberg reunite with Lone Survivor, Deepwater Horizon, and Patriots Day director Peter Berg, has now found its way into the top 10 on Starz, with audiences turning to this no-nonsense tale of Marky Mark and his leadership of an elite, top secret CIA unit.
Starring Mark Wahlberg, Iko Uwais, John Malkovich, Lauren Cohan, and Ronda Rousey, Mile 22 was met with largely negative reviews upon release. The action outing stands at just 23% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, with audiences slightly more enamored and scoring the movie 44% on the Popcornmeter. “Mile 22 lets the bullets fly -- and not much else -- in a thrill-deficient action thriller whose title proves sadly fitting for a film that feels close to a marathon endurance test,” the critics’ consensus reads. Gareth Evans’ long awaited new film Havoc is (finally) coming to Netflix in 2025 after delays, and here are the details.
It’s been a long time coming, but the first film from Gareth Evans in over a half a decade is finally set for release in 2025. Getting here has been quite the road.
Gareth Evans made a huge impact on 21st century action cinema in 2011 when he wrote and directed The Raid, which introduced the world not only to the fierce Indonesian martial art of Pencak Silat, but also to Iko Uwais, who dispatched body after body with brutal efficiency. 2014’s The Raid 2 upped the ante on the violence considerably, letting characters like Baseball Bat Man and Hammer Girl loose and featuring quite possibly the best prison brawl this century.

It’s been nearly five years since it was first announced that Tom Hardy would star in Havoc, a new action thriller from The Raid director Gareth Evans. The film has certainly been a long time coming, but it will finally be released on Netflix in 2025. Empire dropped a new image from Havoc featuring Hardy sending some poor bastard to the emergency room. You can check that out below, as well as a few more from Netflix itself.
As production wrapped up four years ago, you might be wondering what the hold-up has been; according to Evans, that came down to the difficulty in scheduling additional photography, which required some very specific people to be in the same place at the same time. However, the director promised the film would be worth the wait, and the delay was only beneficial. “It’s had a profound effect on the film,” he said.

Venom 3 continues to deliver at the box office, and despite the possibility that it might not reach the same level of commercial success as its predecessors, it already proved to be a hit. It looks like Tom Hardy gets much busier these days as he gears up for yet another action thriller film, Havoc.

This project is an exclusive deal with Netflix and the English actor has been attached to it from the get-go. Surprisingly, filming began in July 2021 and finished in October of the same year. After a long-gestating process, it will finally be unveiled in 2025.

More than three years after production initially wrapped on the action movie, Netflix is finally ready to show the world Gareth Evans' Havoc. Two first look images from the hotly-anticipated movie have been released, both showing a grizzled Tom Hardy that means business.
Empire released the first image as part of its "2025 Preview First Look" series, showing Hardy's character Walker restraining a man in what looks to be a bar or nightclub. Netflix debuted the second image on X, which simply features Hardy's Walker pointing a gun directly at the camera. A brief synopsis for Havoc was also shared by the streamer and reads as follows: "After a drug deal gone wrong, a detective fights his way through a criminal underworld to rescue a politician's son unraveling a web of corruption and conspiracy ensnaring his entire city." Check out the first look images of Hardy in Havoc below.

You may not even be aware that Oscar nominee and Venom star Tom Hardy has already filmed an action thriller for Netflix directed by the filmmaker behind the martial arts masterpiece The Raid. If you were not aware, allow me to say that again: Tom Hardy is leading an action thriller from the director of The Raid. Titled Havoc, Hardy reportedly finished filming more than three years ago, but we still do not know when it will debut on the streaming platform.
Thankfully, we may at least now have some idea. Director Gareth Evans, who has also helmed Merantau, The Raid 2, and Apostle, took to Instagram a few months ago to reveal that Havoc will (hopefully) hit Netflix in the first quarter of 2025. See what Evans had to say about the production of the action movie below.

An upcoming action thriller could very well be what every action movie fan has been waiting for. Sounding like the perfect cross between Liam Neesons 2008 hit Taken and director Gareth Evans The Raid, the movie boasts an incredible cast of martial arts actors with enviable action movie pedigree, a filmmaker with a penchant for stunts, and an exquisitely no-nonsense plot that should allow for the punches, kicks, and everything else in between to fly hard and fast.
Titled The Furious (which should tell you everything you need to know about what were in for), the action outing is all set to be helmed by Tanigaki Kenji, who is best known for his stunt work in the likes of the Donnie Yen movie Raging Fire, G.I. Joe spin-off Snake Eyes, and this years martial arts hit Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In. Without further ado, you can check out the synopsis for The Furious below,...

Thanks in large part to movies like The Matrix and directors like John Woo, in the early 2000s, action films became highly stylized and more concerned with how slick they looked than with necessarily delivering hard-hitting, in-your-face action. The rough-and-tumble brutality of the Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone era gave way to high-flying wire-fu and highly choreographed fight sequences and never did the two meet. Not until The Raid: Redemption came along and totally upended the action film genre once again.
A non-stop thrill ride from beginning to end, The Raid: Redemption took advantage of (North American) audiences' newfound appreciation for graceful and well-choreographed action while bringing back hard-hitting battles that spared no expense when it came to visualizing their brutality. Here was an action franchise that was finally not afraid to pull any punches. Shortly after that, an American franchise by the name of John Wick took that idea and made it its own.

There are still questions about whether The Raid 3 will happen, even though it's been 13 years since The Raid: Redemption was released. Gareth Evans' Raid movies, which introduced the world to the Indonesian Pencak Silat martial arts, are some of the most influential action movies of the 2010s. The movies were so successful with both critics and audiences that they not only became cult classics, but also made the leading man in the franchise, Iko Uwais, a star who went on to work on notable films such as The Expendables.
Over the years since The Raid 2 was released, there have been discussions about a possible sequel, but so far, nothing has resulted from them. In 2022, it was announced that there would be a remake of The Raid with Michael Bay and Patrick Hughes at the helm (via Deadline). Although some audiences would have preferred a third movie from Evans instead,...

Anthology films have become synonymous with the expression "mixed bag," as it's incredibly difficult to bring in multiple different directors with distinct voices to create short films and expect there to be an equal level of quality or tone. In my opinion, that's part of the fun. An anthology film gives me the chance to micro-dose an experience of a time gone by, where I'd agonize over VHS box cover art in the hopes that whatever I brought home would become my new favorite movie. If it didn't, that's okay, because I could just move on to the next one. The "V/H/S" films capture that experience, and every so often, a segment transcends its place within the anthology and becomes something singular. There are plenty of "V/H/S" segments that I adore and can watch on repeat without ever tiring, but there will always only be one "Safe Haven.

The trailer for Kung Fu Games boasts that it’s from one of the executive producers of Halloween: Resurrection. For those who don’t remember, that’s the one where Michael Myers gets beaten up by rapper Busta Rhymes. The fact that they thought a connection to that film was something to boast about should have been all the warning I needed.
Instead, I found myself watching a group of confused people wake up in what looks like a subway car as lights flash and sirens sound. A door opens, and they run out into what looks like a fog enshrouded bamboo forest, where one of them gets impaled with a spear and the rest get attacked by fighters who rappel down from the clouds.

One of the greatest action movies, not just of the modern era but of all time, is now available to stream for free. That's right, you can now bear witness to martial arts and action movie mastery without spending a single cent as 2014s The Raid 2 lands on Tubi TV this month. Directed by Gareth Evans and starring Iko Uwais, Arifin Putra, Oka Antara, Tio Pakusadewo, Alex Abbad, Julie Estelle, Ryuhei Matsuda, Kenichi End, and Kazuki Kitamura, it is not hyperbolic to say that The Raid 2 is a blood-drenched symphony of violence and action movie artistry that makes most other movies of the genre look like easily defeated henchmen.
A sequel to 2011s The Raid, the Indonesian action thriller that tells the simple, isolated story of an elite squad tasked with infiltrating a high-rise building run by a ruthless drug lord, The Raid 2 picks up with Iko Uwais character,...

Many film historians speculate that cinema's first martial arts movie was Zhang Shichuan's The Burning of the Red Lotus Temple. Released in 16 parts between 1928 and 1931, The Burning of the Red Lotus Temple ran 27 hours long. Unfortunately, The Burning of the Red Lotus Temple is now a lost film, but there are plenty of incredible martial arts films that now exist to help fill the void.
It was not until the late 1960s that martial arts movies began to appeal to international audiences. Cheng Pei-pei and Jimmy Wang Yu were among the first internationally recognized martial arts movie stars thanks to their performances in films such as Come Drink with Me and The One-Armed Swordsman. Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, martial arts movies produced by Shaw Brothers Studio and Golden Harvest turned actors such as Bruce Lee, Alexander Fu Sheng, Gordon Liu, Sammo Hung, and Jackie Chan into cinema's greatest action movie stars.

Upcoming Tom Hardy Movie Can Be The Follow-Up To These 2 Action Movies That I've Wanted For A Decade
Gareth Evans directs Tom Hardy in the upcoming action movie Havoc, a city-wide conspiracy thriller. Havoc marks Evans' return to the action genre after a decade, following The Raid franchise. Despite being finished since 2021, Havoc's release remains uncertain, with no confirmed date from Netflix.

Computer-generated and visual effects in movies have reached peak saturation over the past couple of decades. Seemingly every other “exterior” scene is shot against a digital background nowadays, and most action sequences look more like flashy video game cutscenes than genuine cinematic moments.
Amid the deluge of CGI sadness, however, there are still filmmakers and stunt people committed to filming action in the purest way, capturing stunts in-camera, on location, and with trained professionals. As much as visual effects have advanced over the years, there’s still nothing better than the real thing, and the movies on this list prove that the art of in-camera stunts is as potent and powerful as ever.
Tom Cruise Hangs on Side of Plane — Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation
A case can be made that Tom Cruise hanging off the side of an A400 Atlas military plane as it takes off is the most iconic modern movie stunt there is.

Iko Uwais has been practicing the Indonesian martial art of pencak silat since he was 10 years old. Uwais was discovered by Welsh filmmaker Gareth Evans in 2007 when Evans was making a documentary about silat. Uwais learned the fighting style from his grandfather, who founded the Tiga Beranti Silat School in 1974.
Indonesian actor Iko Uwais has one of the most extraordinary fighting styles used in modern martial arts movies. Gaining popularity from Gareth Evans' gripping The Raid movies and being seen as a wasted martial artist in The Expendables 4, Uwais has started to become a household name in action films. Over the last decade, Uwais, alongside his often-on-screen fighting partner, Joe Taslim, has delivered some of the most fast-paced, brutal, and satisfying fight scenes throughout the genre. Though he broke out in 2011's The Raid: Redemption, he's just now starting to appear in major Hollywood films.

Movies that embrace gaming elements can create a unique and immersive experience for viewers. Action films like The Raid and Edge of Tomorrow show the influence of video games on cinema. Films like Crank and John Wick adapt video game-like intensity and storytelling for the big screen.
While there have been plenty of video game movie adaptations over the years, often a movie that looks and feels like a video game without being based on one can work a lot better. This was because movies that took influence from gaming without being burdened by the expectations set by a previously established work had the freedom to embrace what they were and create something special. Many action movies could learn a lot from video games' intensity and immersive nature, and some movies have fully embraced these lessons.
