Emma Laird has gotten to work with some top-shelf talent of late. Last year, she was part of the cast of The Brutalist, featuring Best Actor winner Adrien Brody, and returned to Mayor of Kingstown, led by Jeremy Renner. Before that, in 2023, her career united her with Kenneth Branagh, Michelle Yeoh, Tom Holland, and Amanda Seyfried between A Haunting in Venice and The Crowded Room. Her luck in the actor lottery has yet to run out too, as she's due to join a star-studded cast in Cary Joji Fukunaga's Blood in Snow, featuring her upcoming 28 Years Later co-star Aaron Taylor-Johnson at the top of the call sheet. With all the talent involved, the actress has high hopes that the film won't just be a success, but a gratifying experience for her thanks to the team's wonderful personalities.

After the erotic drama Baby Girl, Nicole Kidman continues her divisive streak with a certified Rotten thriller. Kidman began acting in the 1980s with Australian films like the action-comedy BMX Bandits and the critically acclaimed Dead Calm before achieving international stardom. Her Hollywood breakthrough came in 1990 when she starred opposite Tom Cruise in the NASCAR love-story Days of Thunder, spawning a variety of leading performances from Stanley Kubrick's Eyes Wide Shut to the black comedy To Die For.
In the early 2000s, Nicole Kidman's performances continued with back-to-back Oscar-nominated roles from Moulin Rouge! to The Hours, the latter scoring the actor her first Best Actress win with her portrayal of Virginia Woolf. In 2017, she delivered her first Emmy-winning performance in HBO’s drama series Big Little Lies. British actor and filmmaker Sir Kenneth Branagh has been a Hollywood staple for years, between his adaptations of Shakespeare plays like 1993's "Much Ado About Nothing" and 1996's "Hamlet" and blockbuster projects like "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets," as well as the first "Thor" movie in 2021. He also won his first Academy Award in 2021 thanks to the autobiographical film "Belfast," which was based on his own childhood in the Northern Irish city during the Troubles. Branagh is clearly a curiously-minded and ambitious filmmaker and performer who's always looking for a new challenge, which might explain why, in 2017, he started adapting Agatha Christie's Hercule Poirot stories for the big screen.
Branagh kicked off this new project with "Murder on the Orient Express" that year and followed It up with two other Poirot stories, "Death on the Nile" and "A Haunting in Venice," which came out in 2022 and 2023, respectively.

The Masters of the Universe franchise has been going strong for over forty years now, consisting of multiple lines of action figures, several animated TV shows, a bunch of comic book series, and much more including a live-action film adaptation that was released in 1987 and starred Dolph Lundgren as the iconic character He-Man. Although that ’87 film has a strong fan following, it wasn’t received very well in general… but now, Mattel (the toy company behind the franchise) is ready to give the idea of a live-action Masters of the Universe film another try. Set up at Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel Studios, the new Masters of the Universe is aiming for a theatrical release date of June 5, 2026 – and here’s everything we know about it:

What are the hallmarks of a best-selling Agatha Christie novel? Crisp, accessible prose and memorable characters culminate into classic murder mysteries that have stood the test of time. There's also a sprinkling of clever sleight of hand, where subtle, essential clues are peppered right up to the big reveal hiding in plain sight. Although her stories make little space for what might be termed as morally grey, this very insistence on treating morality as an easily definable standard grants us comfort in a messy, volatile world. This is also why Christie's brand of escapist fiction makes for good adaptations, with figures like Hercule Poirot or Miss Jane Marple steering these quasi-fantastical detective stories.
Christie's oeuvre has been adapted across mediums, including film, from 1928's mystery drama "The Passing of Mr. Quinn" to the more recent Kenneth Branagh-helmed "A Haunting in Venice." In terms of television adaptations, a chunk...

Michelle Yeoh's Hollywood debut was Tomorrow Never Dies, the film that marked a milestone for her career. The actor explains why she passed on a chance to reprise her role in a James Bond sequel.
Michelle Yeoh would have been the third Bond Girl to reprise her role in the franchise (Eunice Gayson and Lea Seydoux each appeared in two James Bond films). Yeoh played agent Wai Lin in Tomorrow Never Dies and was offered to return in Die Another Day; she declined due to scheduling conflicts. "I was asked one time, to come back to do a cameo," she told Radio Times. "But unfortunately I was filming, I was producing my own movie. Sometimes life throws tough choices at you."

Disney has redeemed their dismal 2023 by hitting a major box office milestone in 2024. Across their brands, Disney had a string of unsuccessful releases last year. One of the most notorious was the Marvel Cinematic Universe movie The Marvels, which grossed $206.1 million against a budget of more than $300 million and became the lowest-grossing movie in the 34-film franchise. Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny was similarly unsuccessful, reportedly losing Disney $143 million, while Haunted Mansion also severely underperformed, grossing $117.5 million against its $150 million budget.
Per Deadline, Disney has now become the only studio to gross more than $2 billion at the domestic box office, off the back of hits such as Inside Out 2 ($652.9 million domestic), which is now the highest-grossing animated movie of all time worldwide, Deadpool & Wolverine ($636.7 million), which is the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time worldwide, and Moana 2 ($342 million). Universal is looking to Jamie Lee Curtis to pick up where Angela Lansbury left off for the studio’s Murder, She Wrote movie. There’s no deal yet, but Curtis is the studio’s top choice to play Jessica Fletcher in a film based on the 12-season CBS series.
The script is by Dumb Money scribes Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo, and Lord Miller and Amy Pascal are producing it. Plans to scope out a Murder, She Wrote film come at a time when whodunit stories are making a killer comeback. Rian Johnson’s Knives Out Mysteries series is a smash hit with audiences. At the same time, other titles like Netflix’s Enola Holmes, starring Millie Bobby Brown as the younger sister of Sherlock Holmes (Henry Cavill), and Kenneth Branagh’s revival of Hercule Poirot are great additions to the genre’s offerings.

Who doesn’t love a good whodunit? The setting is usually so simple that you don’t expect anything to go wrong. The characters are relatable and only a little off-kilter to make you trust only your instincts. As soon as you start to settle in, something criminal happens, thereby sending everything into a state of chaos. And the best part is when it all comes together in the most satisfying, cathartic, and sometimes anticlimactic fashion imaginable. I have grown up reading and watching anything that’s related to Satyajit Ray’s Feluda. Which obviously means that I have read and watched almost everything that has “Sherlock Holmes” written on it. Amongst the more recent stuff, I think Game Night is a masterpiece. The Knives Out movies are excellent. Neeyat and A Haunting in Venice really caught me by surprise. Also, Bodies Bodies Bodies has to be one of the most subversive whodunits out there.

Warning: Mild spoilers for all 3 Hercule Poirot movies
Kenneth Branagh has directed and starred in three Hercule Poirot movies, but they’re not all equal to one another. A Haunting in Venice is the most recent murder mystery starring everyone’s favorite Belgian detective. Like the first two movies, A Murder on the Orient Express and Death on the Nile, A Haunting in Venice was adapted from an Agatha Christie story. Each film in the franchise includes an all-star ensemble cast, a murder mystery waiting to be solved, and Poirot at the center of it all, but which film reigns supreme?
Each of Branagh’s Hercule Poirot movies has something to like. Whether that’s the cast, the unfolding mystery, the untold secrets lurking behind the lies the characters tell, or Poirot’s memorable mustache (which gets its own backstory), the franchise isn’t short on entertainment. 2017’s Murder on the Orient Express...

Kenneth Branagh's 2017 adaptation of Murder on the Orient Express is streaming on Prime Video along with its sequels, creating a great opportunity for audiences to revisit the series. Branagh directs and stars in each film as Hercule Poirot, Agatha Christie's legendary detective. Each film features an exciting setting and a cast of well-known stars to go with its mysterious murder waiting to be solved by the character from Agatha Christie's books.
In particular, Murder on the Orient Express centered around Hercule Poirot's journey from Jerusalem to London and the murder that occurs one night when the train derails. Since 2018, Yellowstone has garnered a massive fanbase due to its expansive neo-Western story. The universe is ever-expanding, with plenty of spinoffs currently available and in production. Thus, while the show itself is soon coming to a close, the world will keep expanding. Much of the success of the show is due to the superbly written characters and the actors that play them perfectly.
While many actors have come and gone while Yellowstone has aired, a core cast of actors earned the show its fame, such as Kevin Costner as John Dutton and Gil Birmingham as Thomas Rainwater. Detailing the history of Yellowstone characters and the actors who play them provides insight into why the show has been so successful. Though many side characters have been introduced over Yellowstone's run, that core cast deserves explanation.

Kelly Reilly has lived up to pretty much all her fans’ expectations with her beyond-iconic works, of which Beth Dutton from the Yellowstone saga continues to be regarded as her best one to date by many. Her epic rendition in Taylor Sheridan’s Western has been so commendable that many might as well expect her to continue her role in case the series gets revived for new seasons.

Lucasfilm confirms new Star Wars trilogy ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
It’s time to travel to a galaxy far, far away once again, as a new Star Wars trilogy has been confirmed to be in the works. Lucasfilm has signed a deal with filmmaker Simon Kinberg to develop three new films based on the iconic franchise.
The Star Wars series already features three trilogies: the originals, released between 1977 and 1983, the prequels, released between 1999 and 2005; and the recent sequels, released by Disney between 2015 and 2019.
Simon Kinberg to Create New Star Wars Trilogy
The project is still in the early stages of Development, and reports suggest that it will feature a fresh storyline after The Skywalker Saga concluded with Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker in 2019. However, a source quoted by Deadline has revealed that the new films could also continue the tale of Luke Skywalker, becoming episodes 10 to 12 of the overall franchise.

The Force is strong with Simon Kinberg.
Lucasfilm has hired the prolific writer and producer to write and produce a new trilogy of “Star Wars” films. An early report insinuated are that this will actually be chapters 10 – 12 of the Skywalker Saga, continuing the path that most recently concluded with “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” in 2019. But there are others that insist this is a standalone series, something akin to the trilogies that David Benioff and D.B. Weiss and, separately, Rian Johnson, were working on for the company. It is being referred to as a “new saga.”
Kinberg is no stranger to “Star Wars.” Following the acquisition of Lucasfilm by Disney, Kinberg was part of a small brain trust that was working on new projects for the studio. He consulted on J.J. Abrams’ “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” and co-created the animated series “Star Wars: Rebels” with Dave Filoni.

It's not uncommon for an actor to direct themselves in a movie, and these movies often produce deeply personal results. Actors have been doubling as directors ever since the silent era. Buster Keaton and Charlie Chaplin were two of the biggest movie stars of the time, and they both directed themselves on multiple occasions. Although the landscape of Hollywood has changed drastically since then, this practice persists to the present day.
These days, it's not unusual for an actor to step behind the camera later in their career. People like Ben Affleck, Denzel Washington and Bradley Cooper have all transitioned to directing after starting out as actors, and they have frequently acted in their own movies. People like Ben Affleck, Denzel Washington and Bradley Cooper have all transitioned to directing after starting out as actors, and they have frequently acted in their own movies. The murder mystery subgenre has been a part of cinema for many decades, reaching its highest peak in the 1920s and 1930s. Thanks to the written works of Agatha Christie and other famed authors, the subgenre took off, thus paving the way for the Golden Age of murder mystery films. Furthermore, these mentioned pieces of literature got their chance to be adapted for the big screen.
While the subgenre has significantly slowed down, it hasn't entirely died out, which is a relief to those who enjoy these types of films. Every decade, there are a few murder mystery films that get made and stand out among viewers. Murder mysteries even had a recent comeback thanks to the widely acclaimed success of Knives Out, which spawned a sequel and will get a third installment in 2025. Alongside that modern classic, there are other murder mystery movies, both old and new, that people...

At this point, we all know that for better or for worse, Lady Gaga loves going Method for her roles. She claimed that for her role as Ally in "A Star is Born" — the role that won her an Oscar for best original song thanks to the showstopper "Shallow" — she lived in the role for years. More recently, she changed her singing voice and walked the set of "Joker: Folie á Deux" as Harleen "Lee" Quinzel. In 2022, for the biopic "House of Gucci," Lady Gaga took "the Method," where you fully embody your character even when the cameras are off super seriously, and even spoke in an Italian accent for her role as Patrizia Reggiani. Apparently, she also refused to speak to one of her co-stars as a result of her approach to Patrizia.

To offer some details on the projects and what theyre all about, "And Then There Were None" was first published way, way back in 1939 and centers on 10 strangers who are invited to Soldier Island, an isolated rock near the Devon coast.

The reboot of the cult classic crime comedy Cluehas found the perfect director, with Zach Cregger, who is best known for the horror movie hit Barbarian, reportedly joining the project. Earlier this year, Sony acquired the film and television rights to the Clue franchise, with Sony's TriStar Pictures and Hasbro Entertainment all set to produce the new take on the board game. The news of Cregger's involvement comes from notable insider Jeff Sneider, who writes:
"I hear that Cregger is in talks to direct the Clue movie for Sony's TriStar Pictures label, which landed the film and TV rights to the classic Hasbro board game back in April (along with Sony Pictures Television).
I'm told that Shay Hatten will write the script, having previously written John Wick: Chapter 3 Parabellum and Chapter 4 as well as Zack Snyder's Rebel Moon movies and the director's zombie film Army of the Dead.

After just one weekend in theaters, albeit a financially fruitful one, Alien: Romulus has already entered the Top 10 20th Century Studios Movies of All Time at the domestic box office. Currently accumulating $42 million in three days, the film is now eighth in the list, ahead of the likes of Barbarian and The Creator, with next in sight 2023's A Haunting in Venice. If the current trend of Alien: Romulus persists throughout the week, with the film hitting over $10 million per day, it would only take three days for the interquel to move all the way to fourth. To achieve second place, currently held by Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, Alien: Romulus would only need another $130 million domestically, something certainly a likelihood across the movie's theater lifespan. However, grabbing the top spot is a much trickier task, with Avatar: The Way of Water earning exactly four times more than second place,...

Oscar-winner Michelle Yeoh is still set to join the Avatar franchise, it just won't be as soon as fans were initially led to believe. James Cameron recently opened up about which movie will feature the franchise debut of Yeoh.
In 2019, Yeoh was announced to have joined the Avatar franchise in the role of Dr. Karina Mogue, with the character set to debut in Avatar 3, now officially titled Avatar: Fire and Ash. However, while speaking with Entertainment Weekly at D23, Cameron revealed that Yeoh will not appear in the franchise until Avatar 4. "Michelle Yeoh won't be in 3. She's in 4 and 5," Cameron shared. "So that got a little bit misreported. She will be coming in soon to do her part, which is an interesting, fun character. I mean, we're getting ahead of ourselves now. Kenneth Branagh's upcoming psychological thriller has an exciting cast, including Patricia Arquette, Jodie Comer, and Michael Sheen. Branagh is a great director, and an original project like The Last Disturbance of Madeline Hynde is much more exciting than adaptations like his Hercule Poirot franchise. Branagh will likely continue to make Hercule Poirot films after The Last Disturbance of Madeline Hynde, as A Haunting in Venice teased his next case.
Kenneth Branagh's next psychological thriller film already seems much better than a continuation of his murder mystery Hercule Poirot franchise. Kenneth Branagh is best known for his work in front of the camera, as he's starred in some major movies like Henry V and the Hercule Poirot franchise. He's also had a wildly successful career behind the camera, though, as he directed all the Hercule Poirot films and even original movies like Belfast. Now, Branagh is set to continue his...

Production is now underway in the UK, and Deadline has learned that Comer is joined in the cast by Patricia Arquette (True Romance), Michael Sheen (Good Omens), Tom Bateman (Da Vinci’s Demons), Vicky McClure (Line of Duty), Michael Balogun (You Don’t Know Me), Kristina Tonteri-Young (Warrior Nun), Karla Crome (Carnival Row), Aiysha Hart (Atlantis), and Gemma Whelan (Game of Thrones).
Details on the story Branagh has crafted for this film are being kept under wraps, and the same goes for any character details. The “contemporary psychological thriller” description is all we have to go on.

Actor, writer and director Kenneth Branagh’s next film will be The Last Disturbance Of Madeline Hynde. Comer stars alongside Patricia Arquette, Michael Sheen, Tom Bateman, Vicky McClure, Michael Balogun, Kristina Tonteri-Young, Karla Crome, Aiysha Hart and Gemma Whelan.

[Editor’s note: this list was originally published September 2023, and has since been updated.]
There was a time not too long ago when whodunnits seemed to be a dusty relic of cinema’s past. Mysteries about a cast of colorful characters at the center of a murder case, and the intrepid detective investigating them, were far and few between in movie theaters for what felt like decades, and the rare films to feature those plots seldom attracted much attention. But nowadays, the genre is back, baby.
In 2017, Kenneth Branagh directed and starred as the iconic detective Hercule Poirot in “Murder on the Orient Express,” based on one of mystery writer Agatha Christie’s most famous novels. It was the first high-profile Christie adaptation to hit theaters in ages, after 1988’s “Appointment with Death.” The movie was highly successful, and Branagh has returned to that Poirot mustache with “Death on the Nile” and “A Haunting in Venice,” the latter of which opened in theaters this month.
