I played so many games in my life, specially survival horror games. There is no game that affected me like silent hill 2 did. Remaking this game was like impossible job to do. I still cant believe how Bloober Team recreated it that professionally.
Positives:
Negatives:
Positives:
- One of the best stories in gaming history
- THE BEST MUSIC in gaming history
- very good acting/voice-acting
- the graphics are amazing
- the puzzles are solid
- the combat is designed accurately to make you helpless
- Boss fights are awesome
Negatives:
- I dont know, may be personally i wished it a little bit shorter. I like games around 10 hours and it was about 16 hours. But ist not really a negative.
With the resident evil remakes being the new gold standard in survival horror and honestly gaming as a whole the developers of silent hill 2 (2024) were faced with a mammoth task. Remaking the greatest game of all time. And yeah all the fundamentals are there great gameplay, gorgeous graphics and level design, but the reason this is truly a masterpiece and a success is what they kept from the original and fairly and faithfully re-adapted is the joyless and broken soul of the original. The key here is the flawless true horror mixed with the tear inducing undertones of absolutely every element of the game. It's not just horrifying with stellar atmosphere and sound design but it's devastating. What makes this special and what I was really worried about is the thematic genius of the original and if they could keep it so perfectly subtlety woven into the game so you could feel it not see it. And they do all the themes of sexual violence, guilt, suffering, love, abuse, punishment and grief are all here and more. But what makes this special is how brutally under the radar it is all they sudden your welling up and you don't even know why until you really examine what is really going on. Allegories and themes in art are nothing new but they are rarely done this well in videogames and that's what makes this a perfect remake. Keeping the soul. It's a joyless broken soul but that's what makes it just a touch above the rest isn't it.
I got the deluxe ps5 version and started playing 2 days early. This remake is incredible. It is beautiful, frightening, and emotionally impactful.
Bloober team has completely outdone all the naysayers. This gane is way scarier than the 2001 original and some scenes/segments truly gave my heart some trauma. The attention to detail and synergy of music, dialog, and visuals is simply amazing.
Any SH or survival horror fan should experience this new masterpiece. It believably pulls off the beauty, tragedy, and fever nightmare hellscape that the original strived for.
I can't wait to see all the endings.

I'll say it, Silent Hill 2: Remake is the best horror game in years. It's terrifying, punishing, and an absolutely nail-biting experience pristinely paced to wring every chill and cry from the player it can. Bloober absolutely excelled in creating a masterpiece from a masterpiece, learning from the wonderful work of Team Silent while coding in their own DNA to create an instant modern classic.
From the foreboding fog to the crunchy combat, Silent Hill fans the world over should rejoice because the series is back and back with a voracious vengeance. It's gorgeous and narratively timeless, showing an incredibly raw look at mental health issues that, while not the most hopeful, contain painful lessons with uncomfortable truths that might just leave you with a level of compassion to your fellow man you otherwise wouldn't have experienced.
And all from a video game...take that naysayers.

I absolutely love the cinematography in this game, the dialogue & voice acting is so good, and the OG silent hill music during scenes hits you emotionally so hard
big props to the voice actress of Angela who I think absolutely carries any scene she's in, the perfect tone of voice innocent/lost, broken, confused.
I will say tho and I'm sorry for any OG fans that I may offend, but I do find that the exploration can kinda drag in some spots, so I was losing interest in some spots but it really doesnt stay like that for long.
The game is unbelievably eery, and silent hill is just the definition of a perfect environment for horror.

*Like many, when I saw the original trailer by Bloober Team I was like "this looks rough." Boy was I wrong. I mean I already pre-ordered the game already but still I went in with low expectations.
*This game is one of the greatest horror games I have ever played. It put Silent Hill back on the map (no pun intended). Survival Horror was in a rough place 10 years ago, with the release of RE5-6 being fun action games but there was no horror at all. Silent Hill hasn't had a decently good game since Silent Hill Origins. The whole survival horror genre had gone stale and old.
*This game is simply amazing, the graphics on PC MAX is absolutely stunning. The environments are some of the best I have ever seen, and Jame's face looks pretty photorealistic too. Unfortunately the female faces look kinda bad and scary.
*Anyways, this game has a great intro, and the final half of this game is nonstop edge of your seat thrills. I mean, I was completely glued to my screen from the mid way point when the story really started to take off.
*Pyramid Head is great, the characters have more cutscenes to flesh out the plot, and all of the boss fights are way way better than the original. The highlight is the Eddie boss fight, which is now this psychological "cat and mouse" battle.
-The only few negatives I have is that the female faces look pretty fugly, some of the classic scenes worked better with the original voice acting, and the last two stages were ridiculously dark, to the point where I was getting tired eyes from looking at all that darkness.
9.5/10.

I played this remake of the original 2001 one for the first time on Sony PS5 on the 8th October 2024 and I finished it yesterday (17th October 2024). It's a great remake and I love it! It's kinda very creepy especially the hospital but it's still worth playing.
I like both the original version and the remake version. They're both brilliant as well. I cannot prefer so who cares which one is better anyway?
I'm delighted that Konami has brought back Silent Hill and it's all thanks to the Polish team Bloober Team. Fair play to them.
It's probably one of the best video game remakes I've ever played in my life!
I always love Silent Hill. It's my favourite horror video game series of all time and Silent Hill 2 is my favourite one in the series too.

Its here and its perfect.
As with all remakes i was very cautious and just hoped it would not be screwed up by some greedy fart face involved in its development.
It came out so much better than i could hope for.
I have been playing the original for years since it came out. Once a year at least. This new version is incredible. Its got everything from the old game and so much more. Its bigger, better and beautiful. The original was on pa2 so the backgrounds were always limited to look a bit plain but this new one takes all you loved and fleshes it out big time. I love exploring the town in the old fame but now you can really explore so much more. Some shops are open and you can explore those now too.
This new remake is everything i hoped it would be and so much more.
Compared to great remakes like RE2 and Dead Space, this one probably sits right next to them for being great. Well maybe a bit higher as it has always been a favourite game to go to.
I also hope the original gets cheaper and the scalpers dont get what they ask for a ps2 copy. You greedy scalpers charging over 200$
I hope we get more and GOOD silent hill games like this.
Because the ones that have come out in the past decade are mediocre.
Except for the Ascension. That was just terrible.

Never in my life have I played the silent hill saga for a reason that at the time that silent hill 2 came out on PS1 I was a child and at that age it was not common to play horror games, now when analyzing this work of art I have to admit that it is the best horror game I have ever played in my life, I have never played any SH before, I am amazed, from the exquisite story, its graphic quality, but most importantly the psychological terror and stress that this game generates is not for everyone It's brilliant, its music hits the mark in every moment of tension, the game doesn't give you a chance to relax. Masterpiece 10/10.

I have no idea why people like this game because the gameplay is just awful especially the character movement. The game surely is creepy, but the gameplay is so bad that it's hard to enjoy the game. Perhaps there is something I'm missing in that the intention was to simulate the earlier version of the game, but in my opinion, they should've updated stuff. Some of the remakes of resident evil games also have very bad gameplay and one of the games I bought I couldn't even get on the 15 minute mark because the character movement was so clumsy. It was difficult to enjoy the game silent Hill two falls in the same category.

The game has a very good atmosphere and the environment gives the player a very good feeling. Everything that was expected from the city of Silent Hill is felt in the environment. Fortunately, the composition has not changed and this is much more acceptable than a new music. The faces of the characters, except for Angela, look very satisfactory, but the design of Marie's dress is not as good as the first version, and this dress design is seen as weak. The voice acting is really good, unlike the 2013 Collection game, which was a disaster.
The story of the game is designed exactly like the OG game and I hope this trend continues in other versions of Silent Hill.
Atmosphere 10/10 Music 10/10 Fight 8/10 Story 9/10 Adaptation and remake 9/10 Face, style and body of characters 7/10 Voiceover and cassette 10/10 Total score 9.

The creators of this new Silent Hill 2 remake have truly outdone themselves, delivering an experience that is both faithful to the original and refreshingly modern. This game is a visceral and terrifying journey that has genuinely messed with my sleep and given me some extreme paranoia, which is a real compliment! This remake stands as a testament to psychological terror at its finest, likely the best game of its type ever made.
The set design and visuals are disturbingly well-crafted, immersing players in a world that is both haunting and beautiful. Every corner of the game is meticulously detailed, creating an atmosphere that is as unsettling as it is captivating. The sound design is equally impressive, with horrifying audio cues that enhance the sense of dread and unease, making for a truly unnerving experience. The combat mechanisms are also very well done and crafted perfectly, leading to a profound experience for the player, giving just the right amount of fright and disorientation when fighting enemies.
Silent Hill 2 is an amazing achievement in the horror genre, offering a deeply immersive and terrifying experience that fans of the original and newcomers alike will love. I cannot say enough good things about this game!

The Silent Hill 2 Remake masterfully recreates the haunting atmosphere of the original while enhancing nearly every aspect. Its updated graphics bring the fog-drenched town to life, immersing players in a deeply unsettling environment. The terrifying sound effects, from eerie whispers to jarring industrial noises, heighten the tension at every turn. Staying true to the original story, the remake honors its emotional depth and psychological horror, making it a must-play for fans. Every improvement-graphics, mechanics, and atmosphere-keeps players on edge, delivering a tense, chilling experience that does justice to the classic. Well done team bloober you have done a amazing job.
First of all: this was my very first Silent Hill game, so this remake is my introduction to the series.
Other notable and comparable horror games I played include like half of the Resident Evil games (all the new ones, Remakes), the two Alan Wake, TLoU and Outlast parts, respectively.
Gameplay wise it definitely is your "standard" Horror Survival / Action game, which is not a bad thing. It's a trusted concept after all; multiple findable weapons, different types of reoccurring enemies, boss fights, a good ol' flashlight, a little dodge mechanic, puzzles you need to solve to progress - you get the idea.
I sometimes needed a lot of time for certain parts of the game and got quite frustrated here and there because I did not understand what to do (I remember needing ages to figure out the clock puzzle for example - but if that's an issue you can always decrease the puzzle difficulty, which is a really good accessibility feature btw).
However, where SH2 really shines is its atmosphere. Constantly eery and, quite frankly, it only gets "worse" the longer the game goes on. Silent Hill 2 has a surprisingly low amount of jump scares (in terms of scripted ones, mannequins will do their thing exceptionally well tho) and rather tries to be scary in a consistent manner - which it achieves very well in my opinion. One of the most tense parts I remember was walking through a tunnel in basically complete darkness only so start hearing something that sounds like footsteps... I quickly decided to go back! The jail chapter was exceptionally atmospheric as well.
The story, which I enjoyed, slowly progresses and starts to make more sense through findable clues and cutscenes until you get to the final resolution at the very end. Yet, some things remain unanswered - but that's fine. And maybe animate you to play the game again in order to get one of the other endings!
Also, being a game from 2024 after all, the graphics are great. The game just looks really good - and sounds good too for that matter. Really fitting soundtrack that conveys tension when it's needed but also knows when to be completely silent, an underrated aspect!
In short; definitely one of the best horror games I've played so far, big recommendation!

Saying 'Silent Hill 2 remake is fantastic' is like saying nothing. This definitely goes to the list of games I play even after getting the platinum trophy. Unbelievable that metacritic gave only 86%. It easily deserves Must-play. The devs definitely knew they were serving us a masterpiece, so they also made sure it's spacey and long enough. Yes, Silent Hill 2 remake is a vast world to explore and a pretty long game. Just when you think you've seen all its might, the level design keeps getting better and better and focused. The visuals are stunning just like the spectacularly designed bosses, basically like a dream come true. Akira Yamaoka's chilling soundtrack and unsettling sound effects give the story even more depth and get under your skin. The storytelling is amazing as well and has some nice emotional touch to it. You really do get to care about the characters. And not to forget, the game is strongly unsettling to say the least, much more than the original when it first arrived. Not to spoil anything, in new game+ you get a great melee weapon that will make the second playthrough even more enjoyable. To get the platinum trophy I had to complete overall three playthrough and immensely enjoyed every single one. This is the Silent Hill game we've been dreaming of. Much as I enjoy Resident Evil games, for me this Silent Hill 2 remake is easily much better than all the RE games put together. Definitely the second best game of 2024 on par with Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erd tree DLC. Very few games I've enjoyed this much. Rest assured, the future for Silent Hill franchise looks more than promising. Very much hoping to see a remake for the first Silent Hill, SH3 and 4.

I was excited to dive back into the world of Silent Hill 2, especially since the original holds such a special place in my heart-it was one of the first games I ever bought for my PS2 over 23 years ago. I'll admit, I only completed it once, but the eerie atmosphere and haunting narrative stuck with me. So, when the remake dropped for the PS5, I grabbed it on release day, eager to experience that dread all over again.
The plot is deceptively simple yet profoundly chilling. You play as James Sunderland, a man grappling with the loss of his wife. One day, he receives a letter from her, beckoning him to Silent Hill. She's waiting for him at their special place. What unfolds is a harrowing journey filled with heart-wrenching revelations and psychological terror. I won't spoil much, but trust me when I say, the game digs into some extreme themes that resonate long after you put it down.
Gameplay is a mix of third-person exploration and survival horror. It's linear, meaning you won't find side quests or distractions; every moment is focused on finding clues and collecting items that help navigate the terrifying town of Silent Hill. You'll explore ominous locales-an apartment building, a hospital, a prison-each designed with such meticulous detail and horror that they become unforgettable. The main puzzles connecting these areas are engaging enough to keep you invested.
The atmosphere is key here. The darkness envelops you, and your flashlight becomes both your lifeline and your worst tormentor. The radio static that signals nearby enemies adds an extra layer of anxiety. I remember holding my breath as I crept through the shadows, unsure whether the threat was a menacing creature or just an unsettling silence. Ammo management adds tension; it feels scarce at times, but the game finds clever ways to make you utilize what you gather, especially during the brilliantly crafted boss fights-each one feeling fresh and challenging.
I appreciated how James isn't a combat expert. His slower gunplay and less-than-ideal accuracy serve the narrative well. It creates this daunting feeling of vulnerability, which is crucial in a survival horror game. You're not just fighting monsters; you're fighting the dread and anticipation of every encounter.
Speaking of monsters, the enemy designs are nightmares made flesh. They evolve and adapt as you progress, keeping you on your toes. Each encounter feels urgent, every moment loaded with dread as you navigate the maze-like levels. The prison level, in particular, had me sweating-navigating through flickering lights, constantly worrying that darkness would envelop me entirely.
Graphically, this remake is stunning. The environments are visually rich, though some flora feel a bit static. However, that doesn't overshadow the incredible character design and the emotional depth captured in their facial animations. It might be the best representation of character emotion I've seen in a game.
The voice acting deserves a special mention; it's exceptional. The performances are raw and genuine, particularly James's actor, whose portrayal brought a depth I didn't expect. I genuinely felt every ounce of his despair, and it lingered with me after the credits rolled.
Sound design ties everything together beautifully. The music and ambient effects enhance the horror, making every creak and whisper send shivers down your spine. Just like the original, this remake excels in crafting a soundscape that's as haunting as the visuals.
After completing the game, I found myself reflecting on it for days, much like finishing a profound book or binge-worthy show. The impact it left was profound.
In my opinion, this is not just a standout remake; it's a top contender for game of the year. A perfect blend of nostalgia and fresh terror, I wholeheartedly give it a 10/10.

I offer a slow clap for Bloober Team for them having given such TLC to this remake. It was almost perfect outside of some wonky gunplay controls. Silent Hill 2 is still one of my all time favorite survival horror video games, up there with Resident Evil 2 and 4 and possibly surpassing them in a way in regards to the story. Silent Hill 2's story is and always will be masterclass to me. It could be its own movie if it wanted to but let's not give those Hollywood degenerates anymore ideas. It also showcases and sends some powerful messages about mental illness stemming from bullying and other avenues such as physical and emotional abuse as the characters you encounter in your journey throughout the game are very unwell in some way, shape or form. And the story's ending twist was very well executed and holds up very well to date. Gameplay wise, the over the shoulder camera system feels very Resident Evil esque but he main draw has to be the sense of wanderlust exploration and clever as heck puzzle solving. Even though the game sometimes funnels you into linear pathways, I just loved checking out every single door or crevice to see if I could unlock secrets from within. Overall, the Silent Hill 2 remake is one of the more profoundly nurtured and fleshed out remakes you'll encounter and with a new game plus mode there's more to go back for once the somber credits roll.
Terrified me as a kid. Terrified me again at 35. The combat is a little clunky but so was the original at that was an utter masterpiece. The voice acting really stands it away from the original. As good as it was for the time. It still had its 'Jill Sandwich' moments. The voice actors really did a great job of bringing this to life.
Akira returning for the revised soundtrack is just the icing on the cake. His atmospheric sound work is truly second to nonce. And sometimes even the silence is just totally and utterly terrifying. All in all. A phenomenal experience for old and new fans a like. Completely different story from the first. Although there is the odd reference. Don't think you need to play it first. Just sit down. Strap in, and hold on tight!

A beautiful remake of a fantastic game. The devs respected the original game keeping the open ended and charm of the story and mind bending dialogues just like the Original. The music is very good composed by Akira Yamaoka and he made his already perfect soundtrack better. The performance by the actors are also very good and the Luke robert was nominated for the game awards. Some necessary additions were present but it felt at place and the new puzzles were good . The controls were responsive and It kept the janky type controls just like original because James is a normal man and not solid Snake. This discourages combat and makes player feel vulnerable. It's all part of the horror experience.
Must play Game.
