The producers behind “RuPaul’s Drag Race” are ready to pay tribute to late U.K. Series 1 winner The Vivienne two months after her tragic death at age 32.

World of Wonder has entered production on a documentary entitled “Dear Viv,” which will celebrate the life and legacy of performer James Lee Williams with the blessing of his family and friends.

“We want to celebrate The Vivienne’s extraordinary life and work so everyone can experience her incredible talent, sass and enormous heart,” WoW co-founders and executive producers Randy Barbato and Fenton Bailey said in a Wednesday statement. “Although her stay here on Earth was far too brief, it is with tremendous admiration and affection that we share her legacy in ‘Dear Viv.’”

The doc will feature archival footage, personal messages from fans, and interviews with loved ones and fellow “Drag Race” icons Baga Chipz, Michael Marouli and Danny Beard.

The world of drag has paid tribute to RuPaul's Drag Race UK star The Vivienne after they passed away at the age of 32. The performer, real name James Lee Williams, passed away in their Chester home and was found on Sunday, Jan. 5, 2025.

James Lee Williams, born in North Wales, derived his drag name from his love of fashion designer Vivienne Westwood. Already popular in the British drag scene, they rose to fame after winning the first U.K. season of RuPaul's Drag Race in 2019.

Since winning the show, they have competed on Dancing on Ice and have appeared on stage in The Wizard of Oz and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. The Vivienne also returned for Drag Race All Stars 7 in 2022.

Tragedy rocked the RuPaul’s Drag Race fandom over the weekend when it was revealed that The Vivienne (aka James Lee Williams) had died at 32.

The Vivienne broke through as a contestant on RuPaul’s Drag Race UK Season 1 and went on to compete in RuPaul’s Drag Race: All Stars Season 7.

News of The Vivienne’s death was shared by their publicist, Simon Jones, in an emotional Instagram statement.

“It is with immense sadness that we let you know our beloved James Lee Williams — The Vivienne, has passed this weekend,” the statement begins.

“James was an incredibly loved, warmhearted and amazing person.”

“Their family are heartbroken at the loss of their son, brother and uncle. They are so proud of the wonderful things James achieved in their life and career,” the statement concludes.

MTV announced the 14 drag performers who will be competing on the upcoming 17th season of the Emmy award-winning series on Wednesday (December 4).

The competition show was officially announced to be renewed back in August, along with a new season of RuPaul’s Drag Race: Untucked, RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars season 10 and RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars: Untucked.

Season 17 of RuPaul’s Drag Race will kick off with the queens competing in “Drag Queens Got Talent” and this season will bring back the gag-worthy “Rate-a-Queen” scoring system, but with an all-new twist.

After heading up the docuseries division since 2021, Farwell departed the company, according to an individual with knowledge of her departure. It’s unclear if the exit stemmed from restructuring efforts. Netflix declined to comment on Farwell’s exit.

Prior to being named as director of documentary series, Farwell served as a manager of creative documentary series since joining Netflix in 2018. It's almost back-to-school time: Tubi has announced it will continue to bring the critically acclaimed BBC Three coming-of-age series "Boarders” to North American subscribers for the series’ second season.

Written by BAFTA nominee Daniel Lawrence Taylor (“Timewasters)”, “Boarders” follows the lives of five talented Black teenagers from inner-city London as they navigate life at St. Gilbert’s, an elite boarding school. The second season reportedly will see a new era for the students at the school with an acting headmistress who wants them gone.

The All Stars Season 9 finale episode will begin with a special appearance from the vice president of the United States and the possible Democratic presidential hopeful.
