Both Julianne Moore and Sydney Sweeney have become known for playing against type to take on challenging roles that we might not otherwise expect them to be in. Moore has played everything from a porn star in Boogie Nights to a troubled housewife in The Hours, while Sweeney went from playing a telepathic superhero in Madame Web, to a naive nun in Immaculate. Now, the two are together on-screen for the first time, playing mother and daughter in the chilling new Apple TV+ film Echo Valley, and we have our first look at the eerie new project.
First-look photos courtesy of Vanity Fair (seen below) show Moore and Sweeney as Kate and Claire Garrett in Echo Valley, which was directed by Michael Pearce (Beast) and written by Brad Ingelsby (The Way Back). The new thriller promises to zig when it should zag, keeping audiences on the edge of their seat as its plot unfolds.

Per Deadline, Sweeney will also produce I Pretended to Be a Missing Girl through her Fifty-Fifty Films. The movie is set up at Warner Bros., with Eric Roth set to adapt Cote's Reddit short story. Roth is best known for scripting Forrest Gump (1994), The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008), and Denis Villeneuve's 2021 movie Dune. He also provided additional literary material for the 2024 sequel Dune: Part Two. The short story centers around a drifter who "impersonates a missing girl to rob the girl’s family — only to realize she’s made a terrible mistake."

Here’s a cool one in the works at Warner Bros: Sydney Sweeney is attached to star in and produce I Pretended to Be a Missing Girl, via her Fifty-Fifty Films.
The movie project is based on a Reddit short story by Joe Cote. Fifty-Fifty notched Oscar-winning Forrest Gump and Dune scribe Eric Roth to adapt it.
In the short story, a drifter impersonates a missing girl to rob the girl’s family — only to realize she’s made a terrible mistake.
Vertigo’s Roy Lee, Steven Schneider, Trevor Engelson and Aaron Folbe at Underground are attached to produce.
Sweeney, the White Lotus and Euphoria star, is taking a bigger hand in producing the projects she stars in. She was an executive producer on Sony’s 2023 romantic comedy hit Anyone But You ($220.3 million global box office gross and $103M net profit after ancillaries), and she shepherded the nun horror...

Four years ago, a high school English teacher posted a short story to Reddit, a tale with Gone Girl-worthy twists and turns. Now, Joe Cote is in the midst of his own real-life plot twist.
The Massachusetts-based educator’s project is in development as a feature, with Sydney Sweeney attached to star and produce, and Oscar-winning Forrest Gump scribe Eric Roth penning the script.
Warner Bros. has won the rights to the package in a competitive situation that now puts the teacher on Hollywood’s radar. He first landed representation after manager Aaron Folbe of Underground Entertainment stumbled upon the story and sought Cote out for a meeting.
Sweeney’s involvement on the project then pushed it into overdrive, with her bringing Roth aboard.

Ready to get “Together?”
The film, which premiered earlier this year in the midnight section of the Sundance Film Festival, places real-life couple Dave Franco and Alison Brie in a body-horror scenario. It has brand-new teaser trailer out Wednesday, which you can watch below (if you dare).
Written and directed by Australian filmmaker Michael Shanks and produced by Brie and Franco, among others, the movie was a sensation when it premiered at Sundance and kicked off a bidding war, with A24, Apple TV+ and Focus Features among the potential distributors. Ultimately, Neon won the worldwide distribution rights to the film for a whopping $17 million. It was the first major sale at this year’s sleepy Sundance and made the movie even buzzier.
The trailer doesn’t give much away, but the film is said to be a gooey metaphor for codependency, which you can totally get. The official synopsis reads: “Years into their relationship,...

There is something very British about the new Netflix Italian period drama The Leopard. Upon doing some research, it seems the Brits have, in fact, adapted this 1860 novel by Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa to create an illustrious miniseries that will consume your senses from start to finish. The show, set in 1860s Sicily, follows the titular character, the Prince of Salina, and his family through a time of distress and fear. On the surface, The Leopard seems to be a regular period drama with all of the ingredients that make them so lovable: a love triangle, family drama, people going to war, and a lot more of the usual fluff. But what stood out to me the most about The Leopard is that even amidst all of that chaos, at its heart, it is a drama about a father-daughter relationship.
As you can imagine, the Italian countryside is an absolute delight,...

In addition to Demi Moore taking home a statue for her performance in The Substance, the Screen Actors Guild Awards also celebrated horror in an unexpected way last night.
Prior to Jamie Lee Curtis coming on stage to present an award, the Netflix-streamed live event aired a video package paying tribute to horror’s Scream Queens, featuring clips from a handful of horror movies alongside insights from Curtis, Neve Campbell, and Jenna Ortega.
The video package put the spotlight on classics including Scream, Halloween, Psycho, and A Nightmare on Elm Street, but it also featured clips from deeper cuts including Night of the Demons, Leprechaun, and even Chopping Mall. 2024 was a massively successful year for horror movies, especially those from independent studios. With notable titles like A24's Heretic and a wide selection from Neon, including Longlegs, Cuckoo and Immaculate, the horror field saw an increase in audience reception. Looking toward the cinematic lineup in 2025, it's clear that the refreshing wave of new horror films is only growing.
Whether it's expanding franchises with anticipated, blood-curdling sequels or fresh takes on pre-established horror stories, 2025 contains a diversity of works that will have audiences squealing with joy and fear. Does Sydney Sweeney want to be a young mother? (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Sydney Sweeney isn’t pregnant, but she has indeed thought about it. The Euphoria star wants to be a young mom and there is no suspicion about it. But here’s the thing—she’s a little wary of how Hollywood treats women who have kids early. Not surprising, right?
Kylie Jenner shook things up by having Stormi at 20, and Sweeney might be contemplating a similar path. But the thing is: she didn’t grow up with billionaire parents. The actress actually knows what it’s like to check price tags. So, she’s not rushing into mom life without a substantial plan. So, what’s stopping her? Let’s plunge into it.

It appears that body horror wins again! After the great success of The Substance, which was recently nominated for five Academy Awards, including Best Picture, any studio would be smart to snatch up the next potential body horror sensation. Another likely sensation, Together, which stars Dave Franco and Alison Brie, screened at the Sundance Film Festival and immediately generated buzz. The movie made waves following its midnight premiere, and now it's the first official sell from Sundance.

It's always exciting when a new horror film gets picked up, particularly by distributors like A24 or Neon. These companies have a keen eye for great horror content, and more often than not, the films they acquire are usually both unique and boundary-pushing. One of these indie powerhouses just snagged the worldwide rights to a new body horror, and based on what we know so far about this movie, it's something you're going to want to see.
We're talking about Neon, the studio that delivered what is arguably the best horror film of 2024, Longlegs. If you haven't seen Longlegs, maybe you're familiar with other Neon horror movies such as Immaculate, Cuckoo, Possessor and Infinity Pool. Now, the company has another horror flick to add to its lineup, and we're hoping it hits theaters this year.
The film is titled Together, and it stars real-life husband and wife Alison Brie and Dave Franco.

2024 delivered an incredible lineup of horror films, including A Quiet Place: Day One, Abigail, Alien: Romulus, Heretic, MaXXXine, Trap, Smile 2, The Substance and Nosferatu. Yet, one movie from last year truly rose above the rest. That film is Longlegs, starring Maika Monroe and Nicolas Cage. After leaving theaters, fans eagerly waited for its arrival on streaming. Now, that day is finally here.
Longlegs is now available to stream, but not for everyone. On Jan. 8, 2025, the smash-hit horror film became available to watch on Prime Video but only in select locations. Those locations are Prime Video in the U.K. and Ireland. With only these two locations having access at the moment, this leaves fans outside those regions in suspense. They're stuck having to resort to alternative methods to watch the film.
For example, the only way people in the U.S. can watch Longlegs is by renting or buying it on digital platforms.

Here’s How Sydney Sweeney Feels About Not Going For Breast Reduction Surgery (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Sydney Sweeney hit us with some unexpected teenage tea. Back in high school, the Euphoria star wasn’t feeling her curves—specifically, her chest. She even had a whole plan to shrink them as soon as she turned 18. Yeah, she was that serious about it.
But then came the ultimate mum intervention. According to Lad Bible, the actress’ mom straight-up told her, “Don’t do it. You’ll regret it in college.” And guess what? She nailed it. Looking back, Sydney couldn’t agree more. “I’m so glad I didn’t,” she said during an interview with Glamour in 2023. “I like them. They’re my best friends.”
But it wasn’t always smooth sailing. Teenage Sydney Sweeney wasn’t vibing with her body. “I went through that process of covering my body up at such a young age,...

The Oscars are meant to celebrate the best of the year, but they are just as infamous for the movies they ignore. Every year the Academy releases a list of films that can be nominated in most categories (this year’s list features 323 films) and a shorter list for best picture (207 in 2024).
Not all films make the lists. Movies that didn’t open in certain US cities and didn’t show in theaters for long enough, premiered on streaming, screened outside of the year, or didn’t pay the fees aren’t eligible. Then there’s also a slew of genre and low-budget movies from all over the world that just don’t win awards. Some of these omissions are surprising. They have big stars, got some of the best reviews of the year, made money at the box office, or set the streaming world afire. But, in the end,...

The work of Edgar Allan Poe has been adapted for the big and small screen numerous times over the years, with several of the legendary writer's stories influencing Mike Flanagan's recent retelling of The Fall of the House of Usher.
The acclaimed Netflix miniseries put its own unique spin on The Masque of the Red Death, and we're now hearing that a feature adaptation is in the works. Deadline reports that A24 and Picturehouse are developing the project, with Charlie Polinger set to write and direct.

A24 and Picturestart are working together on ‘The Masque of the Red Death,’ Deadline reports, a new version of Edgar Allan Poe’s story with a “darkly” funny twist. Sydney Sweeney is in talks to star, with Charlie Polinger writing, directing, and executive producing.
‘The Masque of the Red Death’ is a short story by Edgar Allan Poe about a prince named Prospero who tries to avoid a deadly plague called the Red Death. He throws a fancy, masked party in his castle, locking himself and his wealthy guests inside to stay safe. However, the Red Death finds its way in, showing that no one can escape death.
Sweeney herself already starred in a horror movie relatively recently, ‘Immaculate’ which received mixed reviews. Critics praised Sydney Sweeney’s performance, but opinions on the film’s execution were divided, with some appreciating its bold themes and others finding it uneven.

All these years, and sci-fi still remains one of the most fascinating and beloved genres in the movie industry due to its endless possibilities and imaginative storytelling. Production has officially begun on The Housemaid, a film adaptation of Freida McFadden's bestselling thriller, with Sydney Sweeney in the leading role. The movie will see Sweeney starring as Millie Calloway, a young woman who takes a seemingly straightforward housekeeping job with the Winchester Family, only to unravel dark secrets within the home. The novel gained massive popularity due to its layered psychological drama, making it a respectable candidate for a film adaptation.
The announcement was shared via Instagram under the film's official account, @housemaidmovie. The cast, which includes Sweeney, Amanda Seyfried, director Paul Feig, and Michele Morrone, used a popular BookTok review/audio from user @cedelove_, whose review of the novel helped catapult the novel to a viral success, with the cast seen on set reading the original novel instead of the script. 2024 is almost over! It went super fast, had a lot of ups and downs, and at times, threatened to drive some of us to the brink of insanity. I’m sure 2025 promises most of the same, but if there is one thing we can celebrate, it’s the glut of amazing movies, books, and general nerdy stuff that keeps us entertained and loving the horror genre.
The Substance
The Substance might be the best thing I saw this year. I always have a hard time picking my absolute favorite, but this might be it. The excitement of having no idea where the story was going, combined with the increasingly loud reactions and squirming from the audience, created a singular experience. For the most part, a trend that emerges during any particular year of cinema doesn't have anything genuinely competitive about it. Sure, there may be the "Dante's Peak" and "Volcano," "Deep Impact" and "Armageddon" years, where highly similar projects are developed to compete with each other, but most trends that occur are less about an intentional duel and are more an indication of where the culture's head is at. Remember 2017, when a John Denver song turned up in no less than five separate movies? While there's no one catch-all explanation for such a thing happening, it's intriguing and potentially illuminating to identify the trend and see what, if anything, it speaks to in the contemporary real world.

First announced in October 2024, Variety reports that The Housemaid, a new thriller starring Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried, will premiere on Christmas Day 2025 via Lionsgate. The film is an adaptation of Freida McFadden’s 2022 novel of the same name, which is a New York Times bestseller that spawned three sequels, The Housemaid's Secret, The Housemaid's Wedding, and The Housemaid is Watching.
The plot follows Millie (Sweeney), a struggling young woman who gets a fresh start when she's hired as a housemaid for a wealthy couple (Seyfried and Brandon Sklenar). Millie soon learns that the couple's secrets are as dangerous as her own. The Housemaid also co-stars Sklenar and Michele Morrone. The front cover of the novel states that it's an "absolutely addictive psychological thriller with a jaw-dropping twist."

The latest fiasco surrounding Sydney Sweeney’s bikini photos proves that constantly being in the spotlight comes with its own predicaments. A few days ago, candid photos of Sweeney enjoying the sun, draped in a bikini, were making the rounds on the internet. While the actress looked happy and confident having a chill day without makeup and inhibitions about her body, people on the internet had a lot to say.

A relaxing day for the Euphoria actress quickly turned into a body shaming session with exceedingly degrading remarks about her looks by netizens. Thankfully, they failed to put a downer on her spirit, as she recently hit back at them in her signature witty style.

Sydney Sweeney has been steadily acting for over 15 years, but her big break, arguably, did not come until 2019’s Euphoria. Like Euphoria, many of Sweeney’s early roles in her career have been on television, but she has expanded into movies as well with blockbusters like Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, horror like Immaculate, and rom-coms like Anyone But You.
Sweeney might have a reputation for appearing like a classic blonde bombshell, but she appears in movies and TV projects as more than simply a sex symbol. Her roles have been varied, even if they are not always as well received, like 2024’s Madame Web, her first foray into the superhero genre. Sweeney has more than demonstrated that she has a well of emotion to tap into and a great grasp of the characters she plays. These are Sydney Sweeney’s best movie and TV roles in her...

Sydney Sweeney just can’t catch a break. Sort of.
Her career is spectacular. She’s an immensely in-demand actress.
But, despite being one of the most famously beautiful women on the planet, she remains a target for body-shaming trolls and a fixation for incels.
Sydney is clapping back. But … what in the world has these trolls in such a frenzy?

Last week, paparazzi photos of Sydney Sweeney on the beach caused a stir.
The actress has appeared topless on Euphoria, so this wasn’t people hoping for bikini pics to show what they’d never seen before. Strangely, it also wasn’t just normal run-of-the-mill lust for a beautiful celebrity. Rather, she became a target of outrage.
Various misogynist accounts began to target Sydney,...
