We're officially halfway through The Penguin, HBO's DC limited series which takes place one week after Matt Reeves' The Batman. I was definitely looking forward to watching this show, but it's blown my expectations out of the water. Not only is the storytelling great, but the performances from Colin Farrell as the titular character and Cristin Milioti as Sofia Falcone are fantastic. The Penguin is already one of my favorite shows of 2024 and I know I'm not alone in that opinion.
The fourth episode, titled "Cent’anni," picks up during the final events of last week's episode, "Bliss," showing us how Oz managed to escape the Maronis and leave Sofia all alone. We get to see the events through Sofia's eyes and that continues with flashbacks to a decade prior when her father was alive, showing us how she ended up in Arkham to begin with.
Warning: Spoilers for The Penguin episode 4 are below.

The following contains spoilers for the first three episodes of Suicide Squad Isekai.
Your browser does not support the video tag.
As Suicide Squad Isekai kicks off, it's safe to say many assumed the focus would be on the anime's Harley Quinn and the iconic teammates she's tasked with working with. They include Peacemaker, Deadshot, Clayface and King Shark -- i.e. the usual suspects. However, the series throws fans for a loop by introducing another version of Task Force X.
This unit brings the deadly Katana into play. She has had many years working with the Suicide Squad in the comics, the animated medium, and in live-action. Interestingly, this anime gives Katana a more pivotal role, making her the direct nemesis to one of the lead protagonists.

Lance Reddick voiced iconic characters in the DC Universe, including Cedric Daniels in The Wire and Charon in the John Wick franchise. Reddick's final DC role is Lex Luthor in the animated series Kite Man: Hell Yeah! on Max. Reddick expressed interest in playing Martian Manhunter or John Stewart in live-action Dcu films, but his existing roles and posthumous releases cement his legacy.
Actor Lance Reddick played a handful of iconic characters in the DC Universe, but his dream role couldve been his best one yet. Glen Murakami, who was heavily involved in the creation of Batman Beyond and Teen Titans, was also responsible for the animated series Beware the Batman, which famously brought some of Batman’s more obscure villains into the limelight.
Beware the Batman | Warner Brothers Animation
While there have been a slew of Batman animated series, Beware the Batman came at the heels of greats such as Batman: The Animated Series and The New Adventures of Batman, and had the distinct responsibility of being different from these two, as Murakami did not want to retread what previous Batman shows had done.

The long-running Arrowverse ended with the final season of The Flash, and the world of DC television is about to enter a brand-new era. Once filled with extraneous series set in their own respective worlds, DC's future television projects are all expected to fall under the umbrella of James Gunn's new Dcu.
While DC has produced countless terrific television series over the years, not every made-for-tv project has been equally successful. Several television shows based on DC properties were rightfully canceled – whether it was due to bad acting, failure to capture the comics' imagination or a litany of other reasons.

The following contains spoilers for My Adventures with Superman Episode 8, "Zero Day: Part One," now streaming on Max.
Episode 7 of My Adventures with Superman introduced the multiverse by sharing Easter eggs of old Supermen and alternate Lois Lanes. For those that remember, Superman: The Animated Series was the second show in the DC Animated Universe after Batman: The Animated Series. The two famed characters had a few crossovers, displaying that their worlds were far bigger than initially thought. And eventually, the Dark Knight and Man of Steel helped form the animated Justice League.
Justice League and Justice League Unlimited were arguably the best adaptations of the iconic team. Having Wonder Woman, Martian Manhunter, Jon Stewart's Green Lantern, Wally West's Flash and Hawkgirl provided a well-rounded group that expanded over the years. Since then, fans haven't been fully satisfied with Justice League content. But considering how successful My Adventures...

With Season 2 of Invincible announced for November 2023, fans have been diving back into the comics and first season. Prime Video hit it out the park as it adapted Robert Kirkman, Cory Walker and Ryan Ottley's superhero story about young Mark Grayson. While the series felt a tad rushed, it was tastefully done, ending with Mark's evil father, Omni-Man (J.K. Simmons) leaving Earth.
Thankfully, the streaming service has provided a bonus episode to whet the appetites: the Invincible: Atom Eve special. This standalone episode details Eve's origin, and for fans of the late Lance Reddick, he actually has a key role in the story. With that in mind, here's a look at the character Reddick voiced, the impact to come, and what else is on the actor's docket.

The following contains spoilers for Secret Invasion Season 1, Episode 2, "Promises," now streaming on Disney+
Considering that the Skrulls are supposed to be anonymous, viewers of Secret Invasion may be struck by a familiar face in their ranks. Chris Stearns, the anchor on the Marvel Cinematic Universe's fictional Fxn, is actually one of the movers and shakers in the alien invasion. In fact, he's later shown to belong to the governing Skrull Council that decided to take Earth from humanity. He's played by actor Christopher McDonald, one of those veteran character actors who seems to appear in everything.
The actor is probably best known as Shooter McGavin in the Adam Sandler comedy Happy Gilmore, though he has over 200 credits stretching back to the 1970s. They include the likes of Geena Davis's out-to-lunch husband in Thelma & Louise and the voice of meddling government agent Kent Mansley in The Iron Giant.

Lance Reddick, a veteran character actor best known for key supporting roles in films like “John Wick” and “One Night in Miami” and TV series like “Fringe” and “The Wire,” has died at the age of 60.
The actor was found in his Studio City home Friday morning at around 9:30 a.m., according to media reports. The cause of death has, at this time, not been revealed, though it is alleged to be natural. His rep at Portrait PR confirmed the news to TheWrap.
The actor was currently promoting his fourth appearance as Charon, the loyal and beloved concierge at the Continental in “John Wick: Chapter 4” following the first “John Wick” in 2014 and the second and third installments in 2017 and 2019. Now in its second season, Titans has gradually built a reputation as one of the stronger DC television adaptations of recent years, and will likely survive any future changes to DC Universe and the possible transfer of shows to HBO Max. Not only that, but our sources – the same ones who gave us the scoop on that Green Lantern series before it was announced – are now telling us that Titans will be getting a Deathstroke spinoff, focusing on Esai Morales’ version of the character. Although it hasn’t been officially greenlit, the show is in early development and, from what we’ve heard, very likely to go ahead.

Being someone who didn’t quite know what to think about the upcoming Birds of Prey movie, I was pleased to find the first full trailer that debuted earlier today rather impressive. If anything, we’ve been given the impression that Cathy Yan’s foray into the DC Universe will be highly entertaining and in keeping with Harley Quinn’s brand of irreverent humor.
Still, it’s hard for me to shake how none of the characters featured actually resemble their comic book counterparts, but I’ll probably get over it (for the most part) if the movie itself lives up to the hype. That said, I’m right there with those of you who are perplexed by how Black Mask doesn’t actually where, you know, a mask of any sort. Perhaps he’ll gain one before the movie is over. I don’t know. But fingers remain crossed.

Now that Gotham is coming to a close, it looks as though the realm of television isn’t finished exploring what happened before Batman donned the cape and cowl. In fact, Epix will soon venture even further back on the timeline with the 10-episode series known as Pennyworth.

Even though Black Lightning has thus far proven to be one of the more serious and dramatic DC TV shows currently airing, it’s been known to get somewhat meta at times. As it turns out, they’re going ahead with a 10-episode series known as Pennyworth, which will likely debut later in 2019.
Truth be told, there actually is a lot of potential to be tapped here, as people can often forget about how the Dark Knight’s surrogate father was military intelligence in his younger days. Though this has been an aspect to the character for some time, it wasn’t until the graphic novel Batman: Earth One that the door was opened for a more rough-and-tumble Alfred in other media, namely in movies such as Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League, not to mention TV...

After witnessing the likes of Justice League, Batman: The Brave and the Bold and Beware the Batman being granted Blu-ray releases, fans have probably wondered what’s been the holdup when it comes to Batman: The Animated Series getting the same treatment. Granted, those other shows are more recent and require less in the way of remastering, but that doesn’t change the fact that many of us have been waiting impatiently for such a thing to happen.
Fortunately, San Diego Comic-Con brought us confirmation that the series responsible for first introducing us to Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill’s respective versions of Batman and the Joker will, in fact, be coming to Blu-ray on October 16th.
To start you off, here’s what to expect from the Deluxe Limited Edition that’ll be restricted to 30,000 copies:

Although I love me some Batman and Justice League, I have to admit that I began to yearn for something beyond the familiarity I’d settled into in recent years when it came to the DC Universe animated films. I mean, this was the same line that brought us gems such as Green Lantern: First Flight and Wonder Woman (2009), so, as you can imagine, I was more than willing to see these folks once again broaden their horizon.
Fortunately, Suicide Squad: Hell to Pay has proven to be just what the doctor ordered: An unapologetic, no-holds-barred love letter to the rougher side of DC’s pantheon that’ll appeal to diehard and casual viewers alike. Well, to be more specific, those who are of appropriate age.

One reason why the character of Batman has endured for 78 years is that he’s so malleable. Sure, there are intrinsic qualities that unite various interpretations such as his superior intellect, martial arts skills and care for his fellow man, but that doesn’t mean there haven’t been portrayals on opposite ends of the spectrum. For example, both Adam West and Ben Affleck have brought something very different to the table, but neither man’s efforts were no less valid than the other – and the same sentiment can be extended to comics and animation.
Having said that, the time has come to embrace what the near future will bring. As it turns out, the Caped Crusader will once again venture to the Japanese anime arena, this time with Batman Ninja. Directed by JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure’s Jumpei Mizusaki, this bold story will see – get this – the Dark Knight...

Just when I thought The CW’s prime time lineup couldn’t sustain yet another DC TV show, the first trailer for Black Lightning premiered a few months ago and I thought to myself, “yeah, there’s room for one more.” Combining striking visuals that Greg Berlanti’s superhero series have become known for with real world sensibilities, it should definitely make for some compelling television.
But like any of these shows, it’ll need the right big bad in order to make it work. Not long ago, we learned that none other than Tobias Whale would be the one to cause headaches for Cress Williams’ Jefferson Pierce throughout the inaugural season and today, we can finally put a face to the menace.

Anyone who’s been keeping up with the third season of Gotham is well aware of how many twists and turns the series has taken in recent memory, delivering one powerful episode after another.
It looks like we can expect all that to continue in 2017, given that veteran actor James Remar (Code Black, Mortal Kombat: Annihilation) has been cast as Frank Gordon, Jim’s uncle, in a recurring role. His character is described as follows:
Frank Gordon is a master at playing both sides and a man who knows how to keep a secret. Frank abandoned the family after Jim’s father’s fatal car crash and now, 25 years later, he’s returned to reconnect with his estranged nephew. But Frank harbors a dark secret, one that will upset the very foundations of Jim’s world and force him into a terrible choice between saving his family and saving his city.

(Cbr) DC Comics-based animated series "Beware the Batman" has a Cartoon Network return date, but at a much later time slot than most would expect. According to a report last week by Toon Zone, "Beware the Batman" will join the Adult Swim "Toonami" block Saturday, May 10 at 3 a.m. -- surprising scheduling given its previous, kid-friendly Saturday morning spot. In a subsequent report published by IGN on Monday, the site reported that the Toonami airings of "Beware the Batman" will start with the show's first 11 installments, before the show's 15 previously unaired episodes debut in that time slot starting on July 27. It's a fairly clear instance of a network burning off produced episodes of a show that has otherwise been scrapped. "Beware the Batman," a CGI-animated Batman series featuring a more hands-on role for Alfred and Katana as a major part of the supporting cast, debuted on July 13, 2013 as part...

To help celebrate Batman's 75th Anniversary this year, Warner Bros. commissioned Darwyn Cooke to create a new Batman short set within the world of the animated series Batman Beyond, which the studio debuted at WonderCon yesterday. The full short can now be watched online, featuring the return of Batman Beyond voice actors Kevin Conroy and Will Friedle as Batman/Bruce Wayne and Terry McGinnis. The short will also air Wednesday, April 23 after an episode of Teen Titans. It isn't known if this short is being used to gauge fan response to see if Batman Beyond can come back, after its original run lasted between 1999 and 2001.
In related news, Toonami's Jason DeMarco announced that Beware the Batman, which joins the Adult Swim/Toonami lineup on May 10, will air all of the previously unaired episodes on the network.

Beware The Batman is a show that first aired in summer 2013 on DC Nation. While we don't know exactly why, the series was put on hiatus on October of that year. While it was supposed to return January 2014, the series was pushed back. Despite numerous beliefs that show would be canceled, it has been confirmed that it will return on May 10. And yes, this is 100% confirmed. Due to the fact that reactions for the show were mixed, many were hoping the series would be canceled and it's DC Nation slot would be replaced with a different show. Good news. Those people don't have to worry. Rather than coming back to DC Nation, the series will instead air on Cartoon Network's Toonami block. Every episode of the series, including all 15 of the unaired episodes, will eventually air on Toonami. The head of Toonami, Jason DeMarco, tweeted: "#Toonami fans- yes...
