Exclusive: Harvey Guillén (What We Do in the Shadows) is set to exec produce and star opposite Kate Siegel in Damned If You Do, the dark comedy from first-time feature filmmakers Jake Rubin and Evan Metzold, on which we were first to report.

Among the other newcomers to the cast are Ginger Gonzaga (She-Hulk), Paulo Costanzo (Royal Pains), Beth Dover (Orange Is the New Black) and Ed Weeks (The Mindy Project).

Prime Video is the place to be in August with an incredible month of new releases. The month kicks off with the premiere of the animated series Batman: Caped Crusader on Aug. 1. The series was produced by J.J. Abrams and The Batman‘s Matt Reeves. We also return to Middle Earth this month with the premiere of The Rings of Power season 2 on Aug. 29.

As far as movies go, the Amazon original Jackpot! arrives on Aug. 15 starring Awkwafina and John Cena. This comedy is set in a world where Lottery winners have to survive until sundown in order to claim their multi-billion dollar jackpot – anyone who kills them before that gets to claim their prize.

The Hobbit trilogy also joins the Prime Video library this month, as do 21 and 22 Jump Street, Superman I-iv, Superman Returns, Night Swim, Drive Away Dolls, and 10 Cloverfield Lane.

Mena Suvari and Antoine Olivier Pilon (“French Girl”) have been cast as the leads in psychological drama “Anatomy of the Sun.”

The film, from writer and director Steven Richter, also features Iman Karram in a supporting role.

“Anatomy of the Sun” follows Alex (Pilon), a music producer who is haunted by visions of his dead sister as he tries to understand the details of her untimely demise. Suvari plays his mother Carol, who is also in the throes of grief.

Casting is underway for the role of Alex’s step-father Hector. Alexis Allen is overseeing casting for the project, which is in pre-production and scheduled to start shooting in the fall.

Richter’s 2011 feature “Center of Gravity” was nominated as Raindance’s Film of the Festival.

Exclusive: Christopher Landon’s Drop has added British writer/performer Ed Weeks to the Platinum Dunes and Blumhouse’s fast-paced thriller.

For fans of rom-coms, it can be a struggle to find a new one that puts a fun, unique spin on all the tropes and twists that go hand-in-hand with the genre, while also respecting that said twists should not come at the expense of what makes the genre so beloved. In the case of French Girl, in theaters now, writer-directors James A. Woods and Nicolas Wright take the story to Quebec City, Canada, and follow Sophie (Évelyne Brochu), a French-Canadian chef living in the States, who travels home with her American boyfriend Gordon (Zach Braff) when she gets an opportunity to interview for a prestigious restaurant at the Château Frontenac. Only problem? Head chef and restaurant owner Ruby (Vanessa Hudgens) is also Sophie's ex-girlfriend. And she wants her back.

To mark the release of French Girl, released this week by Paramount, we had the pleasure in speaking to its leading trio of stars and those caught up in this endearing rom-com’s love triangle: Zach Braff, Vanessa Hudgens and Evelyne Brochu. Speaking to the three via Zoom, they discuss with us the resurgence of the romantic comedy, and what for them makes this genre tick.

They talk about working in Canada, while we even chat about their cooking skills, and whether they have any phobias. We also couldn’t help but speak about Ryan Gosling’s performance as Ken at the Oscars, because yes we’re still thinking about it. You can watch the interview in its entirety below.

The love triangle in French Girl is unique and set in a beautiful, unique setting of French Canada. The comedic aspect of Ruby's character brought a fun dynamic to the movie, especially in scenes with Gordon. Evelyne Brochu felt connected to her role as a French girl and expressed a desire to be part of the Orphan Black world forever.

French Girl follows Gordon, whose life seems nearly perfect working as an English teacher in Brooklyn with a beloved girlfriend, Sophie. However, things get flipped on their heads when Sophie is offered the opportunity to land her dream job as an executive chef at a new restaurant in her hometown, Quebec City. When they visit her home, Gordon makes a startling discovery about Sophie's friend Ruby, who set up the job opportunity, and their history as more than just friends.

Fresh off her Oscars red-carpet hosting gig for the third year in a row, Vanessa Hudgens is back on the big screen with a juicy new femme fatale-type role. French Girl also stars Garden State director-star Zach Braff, and it's a gloriously silly new addition to a certain subgenre of cinema. Do you miss the glory days of rom-coms when you'd be knee-deep in some soapy love triangle-type story, and then something shocking would happen on-screen, and you'd say, "Awkwarrrrd," out loud to no one in particular? If yes, you're in luck (and it's okay to watch romantic comedies by yourself). They seem to be making a comeback as of late — in addition to French Girl, there is No Hard Feelings, Anyone But You and also What Happens Later.

The eponymous character in French Girl is the wonderful French Canadian actress Évelyne Brochu, who TV-goers will remember from the hit series Orphan Black.

Who said romantic comedies are dead? Dating back to the 1990s and beyond, of course, the crowd-pleasing genre remains a perfect date-night excuse to remain couchbound and watch lovers quarrel, reunite, kiss, make up, and more. French Girl, a new small-budget feature from co-writer-directors James A. Woods and Nicolas Wright, isn't exactly the most groundbreaking content out there, but it successfully puts a unique little spin on the common love-triangle tropes often seen in modern-day romantic comedies. Zach Braff's age certainly shows here, but his reliably humorous physical comedy might just bring you back to the glory days of Scrubs.

Exclusive: William Fichtner (Hypnotic) has been set to star opposite Free Solo‘s Alex Honnold and his fellow climbing legends Brette Harrington (The Alpinist) and Adrian Ballinger (Edge of the Earth) in The Sound, an indie horror pic set in the adrenaline-filled world of big wall rock climbing.

Written and directed by Brendan Devane (The Canyonlands), the film currently in production in Nevada follows a group of climbers as they embark on the formidable challenge of conquering the Forbidden Wall, a perilous climb that has remained off-limits for years. What initially begins as an audacious expedition swiftly transforms into a harrowing battle for survival against a malevolent force that toys with their minds and tests their resilience.

Intel on the climbers’ roles hasn’t been disclosed, but Fichtner portrays Conner, a father who is faced with losing his son in the same way he lost his father at a young age.

Asian American actor Vanessa Hudgens, who gained stardom with her work in Disney’s ‘High School Musical’ series, is set to shoot a travel documentary in the Philippines, the country of her mother’s birth.

The untitled project will shoot in Palawan and Manila in March, reports ‘Variety’.

Paul Soriano, who is attached as the director, is known for directing the 2019 film ‘Mananita’ and Manny Pacquiao biopic ‘Kid Kulafu’.

The documentary is said to showcase the relationship between Hudgens and her Filipino mother, Gina, who emigrated to the US at the age of 25, as well as Hudgens’ sister, Stella.

Since “High School Musical,” Hudgens has notched up key roles in ‘Spring Breakers’, ‘Gimme Shelter’, ‘Bad Boys for Life’, and the Oscar-nominated Lin-Manuel Miranda-directed musical ‘Tick, Tick… Boom!’.

Hudgens executive produced and starred in the film ‘The Knight Before Christmas’ and all three installments of ‘The Princess Switch’ series for Netflix.

Actress Vanessa Hudgens is heading to the Philippines to explore her family history as the star of a new travel documentary. The film will capture Hudgens’ first trip to the country of her mother’s birth, showcasing her close relationship with her family and her personal trajectory as an American-born, half-Filipino woman who has become one of the world’s most recognizable stars.

The project is set to begin shooting in the Philippine cities of Palawan and Manila later this month. Hudgens will be accompanied on the journey and in the film by her mother, Gina Guangco, and her sister, Stella Hudgens.
