Once upon a time, in the not-so-distant year 2005, a group of space cops in colorful spandex took our TV screens by storm. Yes, we’re talking about Power Rangers S.P.D., the season that gave us futuristic crime-fighting, alien bad guys, and some of the best morphing sequences in the franchise.
The show was packed with action and had some of the most well-developed characters in the Power Rangers universe, giving fans a mix of humor, drama, and intense teamwork. It was a season that stood out for its strong storytelling, memorable villains, and, of course, a legendary mentor who was literally a walking, talking space dog.

Fast forward to today, and our beloved heroes have swapped their Ranger suits for new careers, different roles, and the occasional Comic-Con appearance. But what exactly are the S.P.D. squad members up to these days?...

Given its 15 seasons and 327 episodes, Supernaturalwas bound to falter a few times. This is an unfortunate reality that every long-running TV series faces, regardless of the show's overall quality and enduring popularity. That's not to say that the series' weakest episodes were entirely unsuccessful.
After all, some fans have a soft spot for infamous episodes, like the found footage-style "Bitten" and the borderline offensive "Route 666". However, there is one episode that fans dislike unanimously. The episode in question is "Bloodlines," the 20th episode of Supernatural's ninth season.
Updated by Lauren Younkin on March 18, 2025: Supernatural continues to have a passionate and enduring fanbase long after the show's finale. However, not all of its episodes are equally beloved, and "Bloodlines" is one such episode that is sure to get skipped in a series rewatch. This article has been updated to include further information about why "Bloodlines" failed as a Supernatural episode,...

I’ve always found it strange how Found Footage appears more frequently in film than in television. If you think about it, most of the recovered footage that we see in real life comes from True Crime TV and investigative journalism rather than movies – or at least it used to before the internet turned the whole world into one giant Found Footage horror flick streaming live until the end of time.
Despite this, there were actually quite a few big-name TV shows that recognized the storytelling potential of the Found Footage format and decided to experiment with Pov filmmaking during their run. And in honor of these small screen pioneers, today we’d like to highlight six excellent Found Footage episodes of non-Found-Footage TV shows.

Canada’s eOne division is rejigging following the Lionsgate buy, with Orphan Black EP Kerry Appleyard set to replace Tecca Crosby at the creative helm.
From April, Appleyard will take on the SVP Scripted and Unscripted role that Crosby has held for the past 12 years and will direct both genre teams creatively. She joins from Boat Rocker Studios where she was an EP on clone thriller Orphan Black, spin-off series Orphan Black: Echoes (AMC) and World War Two spy drama X Company, amongst others.
Crosby will “embark on a new chapter,” eOne said, after shepherding the likes of Private Eyes, Mary Kills People, Moonshine, Bitten and The Spencer Sisters.
eOne Canada has further reorganized by promoting Darren Giblin to SVP Current and Co-Productions and Andrew Kelly to VP Scripted Development, with Scott Boyd and Christine Diakos serving as VP’s Unscripted Development. Rounding out the team, Isabel Gomez-Moriana will continue as Director,...

2023 was a year of seemingly seismic change for the film industry, as superhero movies (especially Marvel) lost their grip on the box office while more auteur-led efforts such as Oppenheimer and Barbie made serious bank. Audiences seem hungry for a return to thoughtful and engaging efforts, voting for their wallets against a decade of cape-clad hegenomy in favour of more challenging (and visually interesting) cinema. But as with the majority of contemporary film analysis, these are mostly concerns for Hollywood. The international arthouse scene plugs away as usual, providing a diverse range of exciting visions that once again expand the very possibilities of the cinematic form. I went back and forth on this list several times, only coming to a final top ten this very morning. With courtroom drama, oddball romance, epic character study and even outright horror, this year’s selection subverted and expanded genre norms, showing that great cinema,...

"Remember you are dust, and will return to dust." Films Boutique has revealed a trailer for a Giallo thriller from France titled Bitten, originally called La Morsure in French. Yet another dark, grainy, gothic vampire thriller? This is premiering at the Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland underway now, just in time for its world premiere. A Catholic schoolgirl is convinced tonight is her last night on Earth and decides to attend a costume party with her best friend. Set in 1967 during Mardi Gras. Françoise is a 17-year-old boarder who sneaks out with her friend Delphine to attend a party and live the night as if it was her last... The director explains that he references are "films like Let the Right One In (Tomas Alfredson), Carrie (Brian De Palma), or Phenomena (Dario Argento) for their striking and intense visions of adolescence, distorted by a prism of fantasy. Bringing some of the most adventurous filmmaking from around the world to Switzerland, the Locarno Film Festival is now running through next weekend. One of the directorial debuts on our radar is Romain de Saint-Blanquat’s Bitten (aka La Morsure), set in 1967 during Mardi Gras and backed by Films Boutique for international sales. The giallo thriller follows a seventeen-year-old at an all-girls Catholic high school. Convinced that she has only one night left before her death, she sneaks out with her friend Delphine to attend a costume party and live the night as if it was her last.
“La Morsure is a film that plays on changes of register and atmosphere, on rupture and opposition, in tune with the perception and chaotic trajectory of its heroine. I wanted to try to make its upheaval palpable, an inner storm that echoes the one blowing outside,” said the director. Ahead of tomorrow’s festival premiere,...

Films Boutique will handle international sales on Filipino master Lav Díaz’s “Essential Truths of The Lake,” one of the highest-profile titles in the just announced main International Competition at this year’s Locarno Festival.
The Berlin and Lyon-based production-sales company’s fifth collaboration with Diaz following, among others, Venice Golden Bear Winner “The Woman Who Left” and Berlin Silver Bear Winner “Lullaby To A Sorrowful Mystery,” “Essential Truths of The Lake” marks a prequel to Diaz’s ‘When The Waves Are Gone’ that premiered out of competition at Venice last year.
It reprises the character of the ethically conflicted police lieutenant Hermes Papauran, one of the best investigators of the Philippines. When asked what drives a man to search for the truth, Papauran says dejectedly that maybe he just wants to keep inflicting pain on himself.

The Murphy family added a new member on Saturday when Eddie Murphy's eldest daughter, Bria Murphy, married her fiancé, Michael Xavier. BET is closing out the summer with a block of original feature films, including the Taryn Manning lightning rod “Karen.”
Titled “Summer of Chills,” the slate of suspense thrillers includes three BET original movies and the linear debut of two titles from streaming service BET Plus.
Stars including Paula Patton, Lauren London, LisaRaye McCoy, Loretta Devine, Wood Harris, V. Bozeman, Columbus Short, Deborah Cox, Anthony Hamilton and Ledisi.
“Karen,” a suspense thriller about an entitled and twisted racist woman who comes undone after a Black couple moves into the McMansion next door, will air on Sept. 14. An early look at the title, a pejorative term for toxic white women who’d like to speak to the manager, caused a stir on social media and drew comparisons to Jordan Peele’s “Get Out.”

The most uneven of David Cronenberg’s early commercial horror features, the 1977 “Rabid,” was nonetheless probably the biggest success among them, in large part due to the novelty value of seeing “Behind the Green Door” porn superstar and erstwhile Ivory Snow detergent-box model Marilyn Chambers in a lurid mainstream vehicle. It’s also the one ripest for remake, if only because his just-prior “Shivers” aka “They Came from Within” and ensuing “The Brood” should be left alone — largely reviled upon release, they’re now rightly considered genre classics. Lacking their outrageous ideas and cumulative narrative momentum despite some striking elements, “Rabid” nonetheless has a strong-enough basic concept to warrant revisiting.
In theory, “twisted twins” Jen and Sylvia Soska are fair candidates for that job: Like Cronenberg, they’re Canadian, attracted to body-horror, and have cut their own path from micro-budget projects toward the mainstream. They also claim they dislike remakes as a rule,...

Rabid, the classic film from horror auteur director David Cronenberg, has been remade by filmmakers Jen and Sylvia Soska.
Rabid may be a campy, schlocky classic from the dawning era of the horror Renaissance of the 1970s and 1980s, but the film, a breakthrough offering from director David Cronenberg – who would move on to genre masterpieces like 1981’s Scanners, 1983 cult classic Videodrome, 1983 Stephen King adaptation The Dead Zone and 1986’s The Fly – maintains a fanbase, notably siblings Jen and Sylvia Soska, who have remade the movie.
Laura Vandervoort stars in the horror remake as Rose, a young woman whose mutilated looks become miraculously restored… albeit with carnivorous consequences.

The first trailer for Jigsaw is here. Aka Saw 8, it has been six years since a Saw film has debuted. The film is set for a late October release. And, the film's first trailer shows several people trapped in various torture rooms. Several characters must face their flaws, or face the saw. Tobin Bell is attached to the film. Though, the character Jigsaw has died several films ago. Laura Vandervoort ("Bitten), Brittany Allen (It Stains the Sands Red) and Hannah Emily Anderson (Lizzie Borden Took an Axe) also star in this latest outing. The release details, for Jigsaw, are here. The synopsis mentions an apprentice. Still, John Kramer's DNA is turning up on victims. So, who is still killing in Jigsaw's name? Further story details remain elusive. Though, the trailer does focus more on action, than a narrative. Characters find themselves in all sorts of dire situations. In one scene,...

The first poster has been released for the next film in the Saw franchise. It was recently revealed that the film would be called Jigsaw, after the crazed killer that made the horror franchise famous. This is the eighth Saw film and it comes seven years after the last film, Saw: The Final Chapter, which obviously wasn't the final chapter.
Bodies are turning up around the city, each having met a uniquely gruesome demise. As the investigation proceeds, evidence points to one man: John Kramer. But how can this be? The man known as Jigsaw has been dead for over a decade. Or has an apprentice picked up the mantle of Jigsaw, perhaps even someone inside the investigation?
Franchise star Tobin Bell is set to return to the franchise in some capacity. He will actually be at San Diego Comic-Con doing autographs. I imagine we'll end up getting our first trailer at the convention.

Do you want to play a game? If this poster for Jigsaw, the upcoming eighth installment of the Saw franchise, is to be believed, you may actually be the one creating the games this time around. Lionsgate has just released the first official poster for Jigsaw and it is inviting you to become Jigsaw. What does that mean? Someone needs to take up that mantle since Tobin Bell's John Kramer has been dead for a long time. Looks like this poster is teasing a job opening for those who might be interested in setting up some twisted death traps.
The Saw Twitter account unveiled the poster for Jigsaw, which features a pig's head in a wig on a table with the word "become." over the movie's title. That may give us some clues about the story in Saw 8, which has been kept under wraps up to this point. Does...

Oh, what a Halloween we'll have this year. There are plenty of ghouls and goblins heading towards the local cinema. But perhaps more awaited is the return of Jigsaw! Yes, John Kramer will be back this October as the Saw legacy continues. The eighth movie in the series, this latest installment promises to rejuvenate the horror franchise after laying dormant for several years. Today, we have the official logo along with these words from Lionsgate.
"One of the highest grossing Horror franchises of all time is back, taking the Jigsaw killer's signature brand of twisted scenarios to the next level."
As previously reported, Jigsaw will be in theaters the weekend of Halloween, starting October 27, 2017. Lionsgate did not offer any more on the story, but we do have some ideas about where this particular installment is heading. The story takes place seven years after Saw: The Final Chapter. And it stars Laura Vandervoort (Bitten, Smallville) and Hannah Anderson (Shoot the Messenger, Lizzie Borden Took an Ax) in the leads.
It was previously reported that Tobin Bell will be back as the main villain John Kramer, albeit via flashbacks as he's been dead since the third Saw movie, unless there is something sinister afoot that we don't yet know. Michael and Peter Spierig of Daybreakers fame are helming this latest installment. Pete Goldfinger and Josh Stolberg are penning the screenplay with help from original creators James Wan and Leigh Whannell. Producers include Mark Burg, Gregg Hoffman, and Oren Koules.
As far as John Kramer is concerned, early reports on the film indicated that he'll be back in a limited capacity. A glorified cameo. He is the Mickey Mouse of this saga, introduced 14 years ago, at a time when Saw was considered a breakthrough in the horror genre. It not only spawned 6 sequels and healthy filmmaking careers for James Wan and Leigh Whannell, but it also started a Halloween tradition that ran straight through for seven very successful years. For a couple of years, Paranormal Activity stood in its place while it hibernated. But now the iconic series is raring and ready to go, with its pig masks back in place.
Set photos revealed that there will be some grave robbing going down in the opening moments of this next installment. And these bodies turn up all over the city. Each corpse has met their own unique demise. An investigation gets underway. And all fingers point to John Kramer, aka Jigsaw. But how can this be? Jigsaw has been dead for more than a decade. The belief is that an apprentice has stepped in to pick up the mantle left behind by Kramer. And the clues may lead to someone embedded within the investigation. Neither Costas Mandylor nor Cary Elwes, both exposed as Kramer apprentices in past installments, are returning in Jigsaw, unless their appearance is planned as a surprise for fans. Though not officially confirmed by Lionsgate, the rest of the cast is believed to include Mandela Van Peebles, Brittany Allen, Callum Keith Rennie, Matt Passmore, Hannah Emily Anderson, Josiah Black, Shaquan Lewis, Michael Bolsvert, and James Gomez.
Jon Cor's Ryan from the last installment, 2010's Saw 3D, is rumored to be back in this sequel. Though it isn't known how much time he gets in the overall plot. Ryan was seen in the opening trap with Sebastian Pigot's Brad in Saw 7. Writers Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan previously revealed in that film's commentary track for the Blu-ray and DVD release, that it was Ryan and Brad who were wearing the pig masks at the end of the film, leading to speculation they may be the ones who unearth Jigsaw's grave in this new installment. Jigsaw died in Saw III, but he has been featured through flashbacks in ever subsequent Saw movie. With Tobin Bell returning here, it sounds like Saw fans are in for an old school treat that will terrorize their soul. While we await the first teaser trailer, take a look at the official logo.

There’s no need for a spoiler alert when talking about Caroline Dhavernas‘ new series. Her character’s big secret is right there in the title: Mary Kills People.
But unlike the protagonist of Dhavernas’ former series, Hannibal, the lead in Lifetime’s new drama ends lives for mercy — not art (or dinner).
Mary is a medical doctor who, unbeknownst to her family, provides suicide assistance to the terminally ill on the side. Season 1 already aired in Dhavernas’ native Canada, a country that recently voted to legalize the practice.

At first glance, the exclusive trailer for Mary Kills People — as well as the title of Caroline Dhavernas’ new Lifetime drama itself — may make you think that the Hannibal alum is back on familiar, murderous ground.

If you missed it on the festival circuit, Sean Byrne's The Devil's Candy, starring Ethan Embry (Cheap Thrills, Fashionista, Can't Hardly Wait), Pruitt Taylor Vince (Heavy, Monster), Kiara Glasco (Maps To The Stars, Bitten) and Shiri Appleby (Unreal, Roswell) is coming to a theater or TV near you this Friday. You can see the film in select theaters and on VOD and digital platforms on March 17th from IFC Midnight. While most movies announce their cast members in the lead-up to production starting, Lionsgate's Saw: Legacy, the first Saw movie in seven years, has taken the opposite approach. With filming wrapped, the studio has announced that Laura Vandervoort and Hannah Anderson will star in the horror sequel, although nothing about their characters has been revealed at this time. While no story details or other cast members have been confirmed, there were a few interesting rumors swirling around the production, when filming was under way last fall.
Variety reports that the movie is currently in post-production, and that the previously-announced release date of October 27, just four days before Halloween, is still intact. Back in November, when production was under way, a rumor surfaced that both Tobin Bell would be returning as John Kramer, a.k.a. Jigsaw, along with Jon Cor's Ryan from the last installment, 2010's Saw 3D. There...

Smallville's Laura Vandervoort and Hannah Anderson are going to play a little game with Jigsaw in Saw: Legacy.
Production is pretty much done on Saw 8, the revival of the long-running horror series (with the movie shooting in Canada, and now in the edit suite). The new film is going by the name of Saw: Legacy, and it’s expected in cinemas this coming October.
It’s assumed that Tobin Bell is going to defy science to return once again in the role of Jigsaw. That hasn’t been confirmed as of yet though. Two names definitely appearing in Saw: Legacy though have been announced.
Laura Vandervoort and Hannah Anderson are the actors in question. You may have seen Vandervoort in her days as Supergirl on Smallville, and she’s been appearing in Bitten too. Anderson’s popped up in the TV series Shoot The Messenger.
