HBO's Lanterns series is still ever-expanding after recently adding Nathan Fillion's Guy Gardner into the fold. Per Deadline, Lawman: Bass Reeves star Chris Coy is now the latest addition to the upcoming Green Lantern drama series in a guest-starring role. He's set to embody a mysterious new character by the name of Waylon Sanders, described as "an intelligent survivor or a nervous truck driver." If that wasn't confusing enough, his real name and age remain an enigma, and he's said to be "unbound by the laws of nature." It's unclear what role he'll play and whether he'll be a friend or a foe to Lantern recruit John Stewart (Aaron Pierre) and legend Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler).
Coy boards a group that has grown significantly in recent weeks, with Kelly MacDonald, Garret Dillahunt, Poorna Jagannathan, Ulrich Thomsen, Jasmine Cephas Jones, Sherman Augustus, J. Alphonse Nicholson, and Jason Ritter among those on board thus far.

Actor Eric Bana (Deliver Us from Evil) has joined the cast of Netflix’s upcoming survival thriller Apex, described as Free Solo meets Silence of the Lambs, Deadline reports today.
Bana joins previously announced stars Charlize Theron and Taron Egerton (Carry-On).
Written by Jeremy Robbins (“The Purge” television series), Apex “follows a rock climber who finds herself being hunted in the wild.” Robbins’ spec script was selected as part of 2021’s The Black List, an annual buzzy compendium of the year’s most-liked unproduced Hollywood screenplays.
The spec script’s logline gives a better idea of the Silence of the Lambs comparison: “When an adrenaline junkie sets out to conquer a menacing river, she discovers that nature isn’t the only thing out for blood.” It’s the type of premise that feels designed to get the adrenaline pumping.

Marlee Matlin is an Oscar winner for her work in “Children of a Lesser God,” and starred in the 2021 film “Coda,” which won the Oscar for best picture, but she feels that Hollywood is so rigid that it hasn’t necessarily given her advantage when it comes to pitching projects.
“I’m not happy with the way things are,” she says. “It’s simply because I don’t know how this industry works to this day. You know, you win an Academy Award, everybody’s so excited. ‘Oh, that’s great. Things are gonna change. It’s fantastic. You’re gonna be working, offers are gonna come in,’ and they didn’t. Yes, you’ll be on that high, it lasts maybe a short little time, and then something comes up again a little while later. So what I do is I have to do it myself. I create my own projects.

Ryan Coogler is one of the biggest and most respected filmmakers working today. From his breakthrough drama "Fruitvale Station" to making one of the biggest blockbusters of all time with Marvel's "Black Panther," the man truly doesn't miss. One common thread in his success has been Michael B. Jordan, who has collaborated with Coogler as a core star in front of the camera from the very beginning. This year, the two of them have reunited for "Sinners," an original, big-budget vampire flick being released by Warner Bros. Mainstream though the movie may be, Coogler decided to go big on the gore.
The film centers on twin brothers (Jordan) who are trying to leave their troubled lives behind and return to their hometown, only to discover that an even greater evil is waiting for them. During a recent press event attended by /Film, and tied to the release of the new trailer for "Sinners,...

The human voice, as we all know, is as much of a musical instrument as any other instrument. But Jeff Buckley had a voice that was so breathtaking, so ethereally soaring, so reaching for the heavens in its virtuosity that it’s as if he’d been given a different instrument from everyone else in pop and rock. Not that he wasn’t profoundly influenced. He had a four-octave range, and when he ascended into the upper registers, with that theremin wail and that incredibly fast vibrato, he sounded like his greatest idol, Nina Simone, crossed with his other greatest idol, Robert Plant, crossed with the most impassioned angel God had ever gifted.
In “It’s Never Over, Jeff Buckley,” Amy Berg’s rapturous documentary about Buckley’s extraordinary rise in the ’90s and his tragically cut-short life, we hear Buckley sing in every conceivable context: in clubs, in stadiums,...

For more than two decades, filmmakers chased the lightning-in-a-bottle story of Jeff Buckley, one of the most gifted and promising musicians of his generation, who drowned in a Memphis river in May 1997 at the age of 30.
Back in 2000, Brad Pitt courted Buckley’s mother, Mary Guibert, inviting her to lunch at his Los Feliz home and adding her to the VIP guest list for his wedding to Jennifer Aniston. It didn’t require much arm-twisting before she granted the actor permission to make a biopic about her son, the tortured singer-songwriter who is best known for performing the greatest version ever of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah.”
“If there’s 20 people calling you, and Brad Pitt is one of them, who are you gonna pick to go see?” Guibert says with a laugh.
But Guibert was skeptical about the idea of Pitt, or any actor for that matter, tackling the role of her only child.

Last fall, 27 years after Jeff Buckley died, the singer-songwriter best known for his haunting cover of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” reached a surprising new chart peak. Propelled mainly by teenage girls using the track as the backdrop for their moody musings, “Lover, You Should’ve Come Over,” a plaintive breakup tune from Buckley’s 1994 studio album, Grace, became the 19th most popular song on the TikTok Billboard top 50. “Ugh the Og yearner ,” reads an appreciative comment on a black-and-white video of Buckley performing the song that has been liked 640,000 times. “Imagine getting a song like this written about you like ,” reads one from another wistful admirer.
To older generations of Buckley fans, these youthful reactions are entirely understandable. “You hear that song, and you feel the most romantic feelings you could feel,” says documentarian Amy Berg, 54, who first had her own moody Buckley moment in the ’90s.

Park plays Kang No-eul, a North Korean defector who is desperately trying to find out more information about her young daughter left behind in the North. No-eul ends up entering the games — not as a participant, but as a masked soldier, cladded in a bright pink uniform and given the license to kill participants who fail each round of the winner-takes-all games.
This twist in her identity was not something that Park was aware of during the two rounds of auditions she went through for the second season of the trailblazing show.
“I went through two rounds of auditions, not knowing what role I would be playing,” Park tells Deadline. “I was just given a lot of lines to read. The first audition round, I sent in an audition tape. The second round was in person with the director and the creator.

When Wim Wenders was readying to present a 4K restoration of his classic 1987 fantasy film Wings of Desire in November 2018 in New York City, Scott Derrickson had to be there.
The German auteur is not only “a filmmaking mentor and one of my closest friends,” but he’s also godfather to both of Derrickson’s sons, Atticus and Dashiel. When the former was born, Wenders was the first guest to visit the family in the hospital. It made sense that Atticus, 14 at the time, would join his director dad in leaving their home in Los Angeles’ Thousand Oaks neighborhood to board a plane bound for the East Coast to attend the presentation at New York’s Quad Cinema.
“Wim always had trouble with the color of the black-and-white balance — both on the VHS, certainly the DVD but also with the prints — and getting the proper tone for the footage, which was running a little sepia.

One of the darkest chapters in South Korean history is chronicled in “12.12: The Day,” a riveting account of the coup d’état of the 1979 coup d’état that followed the Oct. 26 assassination of authoritarian president Park Chung-hee. Meticulously written and very well-performed by a top-notch cast including Hwang Jung-min (“Deliver Us From Evil”), the first feature from director and co-writer Kim Sung-su since 2016 is an exciting and highly suspenseful political action-thriller that ventures where no South Korean feature has gone before. This forensic examination of events that dashed hopes of democratic reform and plunged the nation into eight more years of severe military rule was a smash hit in its December 2023 release in Korea. Now it marks a worthy competitor in the best international feature film Oscar race as the country’s submission in the category.
With a domestic box office gross of $91.7 million, “12.12” is of those films that serves a purpose beyond entertainment.

The true crime genre has never been more popular than it is today, with a plethora of films, documentaries, books, and podcasts all dedicated to uncovering interesting, real-life stories about criminal activities. Many times, documentaries can actually be more impactful and intriguing than their fictional counterparts, with curated elements making way for more accurate, true-to-life sequences. Documentaries have a way of gripping the audience, knowing that usual Hollywood tropes may not apply, as in the real world, fact is often stranger than any fiction could be.
Some of the best documentaries ever made, such as Paradise Lost: The Child Murders at Robin Hood Hills and Dear Zachary: A Letter to a Son About His Father, show the harrowing and cruel nature of humanity while also aiming to present a hopeful, meaningful message. It’s been an eventful summer for Disney, and not under ideal circumstances. After his wife’s death because of food allergies at a Disney park, a man struggled to pursue legal action against the company due to his Disney+ subscription. Then, “X-Men: 97” showrunner Beau DeMayo shared a series of posts elaborating on his termination, and his attorneys told IndieWire that he’s preparing to sue.
The headlines have people considering whether to keep subscribing this month — but if you’re a parent, there’s no real replacement. The kids can tune in to “Lego Pixar: Bricktoons,” “Chibi Tiny Tales,” “Disney Jr.’s Ariel,” and more, as well as new episodes of the K-pop series “Are You Sure?” There’s also a big Marvel premiere, but more on that below. Hulu gets a ton of new movies including the “Die Hard” franchise, “Freaky Friday” (which has a sequel in the...

And we’re back. We’re back to possession and we are back to it being heavy on the religious side and everything purported to be a true story. This time we are looking a little deeper into the legal implications of what happens when someone is injured or even dies during an exorcism, sanctioned or not. The Exorcism of Emily Rose (watch it Here) was a massive commercial hit and garnered middle of the pack reviews when it came out in 2005. 2005 was not a banner year for horror and it was different from the slew of remakes as well as setting itself apart from nearly everything else that came out that year. While The Asylum, known for schlock takes on popular products, would release their version of the true story in 2011 and German film Requiem would come out to far better acclaim the next year, Emily Rose would be...

Deliver Us from Evil was Eric Bana's first and last foray into horror, receiving mixed reviews despite his strong performance. Based on a true story, the film delves into the dark world of demonic possession while highlighting the real-life experiences of cop Sgt. Ralph Sarchie. Fans appreciated the film's terrifying scenes and nuanced aspects, balancing scares with deeper themes like spiritual darkness and inner demons.
In 2014, the highly talented Aussie actor Eric Bana appeared in an unfamiliar role. It came at a time when the actor was being showered with adoration as a heartthrob with oodles of charisma and a terrific acting range after proving himself a decade earlier through standout roles like Bruce Banner in Hulk and Prince Hector in Troy. The film in question was the supernatural horror Deliver Us from Evil, and it was Bana's first and last appearance in a horror movie.

Actor Lee Jung-jae will attend the Monte-Carlo Television Festival next month for the French press launch of Lucasfilm’s latest live-action series “Star Wars: The Acolyte,” which streams on Disney+. In the show, Lee plays a Jedi Master.
It was his role in the globally successful Netflix series “Squid Game” that first catapulted Lee’s career to an international level. Starring as Seong Gi-hun (No. 456), a financially struggling father who participates in a deadly survival game, his performance earned him the Emmy Award for best actor in a drama series, a first for a non-English speaking actor.
This tremendous success significantly elevated the career of Lee, who is now considered by many as the international standard-bearer for a highly creative and avant-garde Korean culture.
In “Star Wars: The Acolyte,” an investigation into a series of shocking crimes pits a respected Jedi Master (Lee) against a dangerous warrior from his past.

Star Wars: The Acolyte will be the first live-action project set during the High Republic era, and series star Amandla Stenberg says that period will lead to a different kind of story in the faraway galaxy.
"In the context of the Star Wars universe, it's a time of great peace, theoretically," Stenberg told C Magazine. "It's also a time of an institution, and it's a time in which conceptions around the Force are very strict. And I think what we're trying to explore within our show is when an institution has a singular conception of how power can be used. We try to provide a lot of different perspectives and answers to that question. The idea is to kind of honor the ethos of Star Wars and ideas around the Force and also challenge them, hopefully harmoniously."
