While all eyes are currently on the arrival of Superman this summer, another Dcu project that is coming up fast is the second season of Peacemaker. The John Cena-led series, which is a spinoff of The Suicide Squad and one of the only projects to have straddled the Dceu and Dcu, is set to premiere Season 2 in August, and there are many fans wondering how the transition will impact the series.

While discussing her upcoming role in A Minecraft Movie with ScreenRant, Peacemaker returnee Danielle Brooks, who plays Leota Adebayo, explained how things are different this time around as part of the Dcu. She said:

Cordelia Cupp, a consulting detective for the Washington D.C. Metropolitan Police Department comes into the White House to investigate the murder of its chief usher. Comedy standouts like Jason Lee and Ken Marino, and TV character actors like Susan Kelechi Watson and Giancarlo Esposito also impress in various roles as the staffers and guests at a state dinner for Australia, where Kylie Minogue and (kinda) Hugh Jackman were in attendance.

But Uzo Aduba’s Cordelia captures everyone’s attention the second we first see her taking a moment to do some birding in the South Lawn of the White House before diving into her latest mystery — as the men upstairs, all leading various security organizations of the government, muse about her being the “best detective in the world.

J.J. Abrams (“The Force Awakens”) and showrunner Latoya Morgan’s (“Shameless”) new series “Duster” will debut May 15, with the first official trailer teasing an increasingly dangerous crime syndicate.

Starring Josh Holloway (“Lost”), Rachel Hilson and Keith David (“The Thing”), “Duster” is set in the 1970s Southwest as a getaway driver gets entangled in a crime network that is threatened by the arrival of a young agent in town. Hilson stars as the first Black female FBI agent.

“Duster” was produced in association with Warner Bros. Television, with the eight episodes dropping weekly through the finale on July 3. The first two episodes are written by Abrams and Morgan, with Abrams and Rachel Rusch Rich executive producing for Bad Robot while Morgan executive produces for TinkerToy Productions.

Lionsgate has promoted Joel Meyer to executive vp, worldwide production for Lionsgate Television, replacing studio veteran Gary Goodman as he retires.

Meyer will head up production for the studio’s premium scripted series slate, while overseeing Lionsgate’s East Coast TV production facilities in Atlanta, Yonkers, New York and Newark, New Jersey. He succeeds Goodman, an 18-year veteran at the studio.

Meyer’s promotion comes as the Lionsgate Television Group has a production slate that includes ABC’s The Rookie, a Rookie spinoff in the works from series creator Alexi Hawley, and an adaptation of the John Grisham bestseller The Rainmaker for USA Network. Other TV series in production include the reimagining of the classic Robin Hood tale for MGM+ and multiple Power Universe shows for Starz.

Lionsgate has promoted Joel Meyer to executive vice president of worldwide production for its television unit, succeeding Gary Goodman who decided to take an early retirement package, an individual with knowledge told TheWrap.

In his new role, Meyer will be responsible for overseeing the studio’s slate of premium scripted series as well as its East Coast production facilities in Yonkers, N.Y., Atlanta, Ga. and Newark, N.J the company announced Thursday.

The 44-year-old actress was celebrated by Netflix’s Strong Black Lead in support of her new series The Residence held at Carondelet House on Tuesday (March 18), and she got support from her former co-stars Danielle Brooks, Natasha Lyonne and Laverne Cox, among others.

Also stepping out was her The Residence co-stars Edwina Findley and Susan Kelechi Watson, as well as executive producer Shonda Rhimes, Yvonne Orji, Tabitha Brown, Amber Riley, Jurnee Smollett and Essence Atkins.

After its Season 2 renewal in February 2023, Rian Johnson’s and Natasha Lyonne’s Poker Face, the case-of-the-week mystery series, will be back for more sleuthing this year.

Season 1 of the Peacock show featured 10 episodes of Lyonne’s Charlie Cale, a Vegas casino worker whose keen sense of honesty leads to a Columbo-style show and reverse detective format. Johnson, who also has Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery in the works with a stacked cast, describes the show as a “howcatchem” versus a “whodunit” which is the format of the Knives Out and Glass Onion films.

Amanda is based on the true story of how Amanda Knox was wrongfully convicted for the murder of her roommate Meredith Kercher and her 16-year odyssey to set herself free.

Wisocky will play Cecilia, an American in prison who moves into Amanda’s (Van Patten) cell to take care of her. Lanza portrays Chris Mellas, Amanda’s stepdad who found love later in life with Edda (Horgan) and is a strong presence in Amanda’s life.

Fitzgerald will play Madison, Amanda’s best friend who always speaks her mind.

Poker Face is adding more potential suspects to its ever-growing list of guest stars. The Emmy Award-winning comedy crime drama will be an unofficial Orange is the New Black mini-reunion as series star and executive producer Natasha Lyonne will be working alongside her Oitnb co-stars Taylor Schilling (Pam & Tommy) and Adrienne C. Kevin Bacon has been plugging away in movies since making his big-screen debut in 1978's highly problematic comedy classic "National Lampoon's Animal House," and has been in so many different kinds of films over the last 47 years that there's a trivia game, Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon, that essentially holds him as the center of the cinema universe. In 2023, Warner Bros. Discovery launched its “Diversity Digest,” a quarterly update on the company’s Dei efforts. The first installment highlighted Latino representation in “Blue Beetle” and home renovation show “Rico to the Rescue.”

But after regular updates in 2024, the digest went silent after the election of President Trump. Last week, the feature was dropped from the company’s Dei page, along with Wbd’s commitments to equity and diversity outreach, as the company narrowed its focus to “inclusion.” The move came as Trump has sought to stamp out Dei programs at the federal level and threatened civil and criminal investigations of private companies. Last month, the Federal Communications Commission opened an investigation of Comcast, the parent of NBCUniversal — and MSNBC — for possibly pursuing “invidious forms of discrimination” under the banner of Dei.

“Bullying is causing a lot of companies to reassess,” says Vernā Myers, former head of inclusion at Netflix.

It’s not just other characters that poke fun at people on screen, as the audience gets free rein in deciding whether a character is worth liking or hating. The audience can love a character so much that spinoffs get created for them, or their actor receives more acclaim. But, a great show often features a character the audience simply can’t stand.
