Richard Fleischer, director of 1959’s Compulsion, revisits the true-crime genre with 1968’s The Boston Strangler. The sordid nature of the material would make it a natural for the 42nd Street audience but the presence of Henry Fonda as a tenacious police detective and Tony Curtis as the infamous killer made sure the film was a hit in more respectable theaters.

"It's just a game. What are you afraid of?" "That I can't stop playing!" Ketchup Ent. has debuted an official trailer for a psycho-sexual horror thriller titled Compulsion, which premiered at a film festival in 2016 and is just now hitting theaters this year. From Canadian director Craig Goodwill, Compulsion stars Analeigh Tipton as a woman who is enticed by an ex-lover to join him and an enigmatic woman named Francesca at an Italian Villa, discovering a sinister game of murder and betrayal. Also starring Marta Gastini, Jakob Cedergren, Nina Senicar, Anita Kravos, & Jan Bijvoet. Perfectly described as "horror film that takes from Stanley Kubrick's steamy cult thriller Eyes Wide Shut and sends it to Dario Argento's hell." See below. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Craig Goodwill's Compulsion, on YouTube (via Bloody-Disgusting): Sadie (Analeigh Tipton), a budding erotic novelist, is enticed by an ex-lover to join him...

Prolific film and TV actor who gave a chilling performance in the 1959 film Compulsion and was often cast as a villain
In his engagingly casual 1997 autobiography, Are You Anybody?, the actor Bradford Dillman, who has died aged 87, took a self-deprecatory view of his own career in particular and of acting in general – a profession he considered just below that of used-car salesman in the American social order. About his prolific work in cinema and television, he was sanguine, having settled for what he called “the Safeway solution” – a willingness to accept any role in order to put food on the family table.
On stage Dillman had achieved early success as Edmund in the 1956 Broadway production of Eugene O’Neill’s Long Day’s Journey into Night. This lauded production starred Fredric March as the father and Jason Robards as the alcoholic brother Jamie. Although Robards received greater acclaim in the juicier role,...

Heather Graham and Carrie-Ann Moss are set to steam up the screen as a pair of lesbian lovers in "Compulsion," and HuffPost Gay Voices has an exclusive clip.
According to the film's press rep: "With images of sumptuous food and sensual enjoyment, the film explores the intimacy between the two through their connection with food, eating disorders and sex. In a battle of wills, one woman overflows with illusions and fearlessly faces life while the other withdraws from everything and fearlessly faces death."
Directed by Egidio Coccimiglio, "Compulsion" also stars Kevin Dillon and Joe Mantegna. The movie opens theatrically in Los Angeles and other markets on June 21.

It's a creature-filled weekend at the movies.
Zombie epic "World War Z" and Pixar's "Monsters University" hit theaters this Friday, to the delight of both Brad Pitt and Pixar fans everywhere.
"World War Z" -- or "Wwz," as it's been dubbed -- has been a long time in the making. Filming on the movie began in July 2011, and an original release date was set for December 2012, but several setbacks and issues pushed the action/horror flick's opening all the way to June 21.
Pitt plays Gerry Lane, a United Nations worker who traverses the world in a race against time to stop an undead pandemic that is toppling armies and governments, threatening to decimate humanity. The apocalypse drama is based on Max Brooks's novel of the same name.
Not quite as intense, but filled with just as many creatures, is "Monsters University," a prequel to 2001's "Monsters, Inc." Future best...

Considering that the majority of films released nowadays feature men in their leading roles, it’s a pleasant change to see indie feature Compulsion switching it up. Not content with one actress, there’s the delight of both Heather Graham and Carrie-Anne Moss co-starring in this upcoming thriller from director Egidio Coccimiglio.
A remake of the Korean film 301, 302, Compulsion ties together the obsessive habits of two women living in the same apartment building. Graham plays Amy, a gourmet chef with the desire to make every evening meal spectacular, twisting her culinary affection into a scheme to manipulate those around her. Upon meeting her new neighbour, Saffron, who turns out to be a child star she once adored, she launches a campaign to win over the former actress.
It all sounds rather Single White Female, and that template is one which has been recycled plenty. However, judging from this trailer, Compulsion...

"Cigarette lighters featured in films often go beyond their utilitarian function to serve as signifiers of a character's identity, becoming extensions of their owners' personas. These objects can reveal and illuminate multifaceted aspects of a character's life and psyche – including innermost secrets and desires.
Films depict cigarette lighters as tools of crime, deception, exoneration, investigation and manipulation. They are often represented as devices that drive the narrative, because the acquisition, possession and/or loss of a cigarette lighter can carry significant implications for the plot."

Sound engineer-turned-filmmaker Egidio Coccimiglio began production in Ontario on his psychological drama Compulsion with Carrie-Anne Moss and Heather Graham joining the independent thriller. Floyd Byars wrote the suspense drama about a former child star named Saffron (Moss) trying to withdraw from life and battling her neighbor, a chef named Amy (Graham), who fantasizes about being famous and slowly loses touch with reality. Byars wrote episodes of CSI: NY and Hill Street Blues as well as the novel Love, Again. Coccimiglio, a graduate of Toronto’s Ryerson University, did sound work on the films I’ve Heard the Mermaids Singing and The Top of His Head before directing Compulsion.
