Production on the fifth season of the hit comedy series Only Murders in the Building is underway. Now, an exciting update has been revealed with the announcement of the season's first new guest star.

Per Deadline, acclaimed actor and comedian Keegan-Michael Key has joined the cast of Only Murders in the Building for his role in Season 5. Details about his character have not been revealed, but it will be for a recurring role. The season will focus on solving the murder of Lester (Teddy Coluca), and while it's not yet known which other actors might guest star in Season 5, the new episodes will, of course, bring back series stars Steve Martin, Martin Short, Selena Gomez, and Michael Cyril Creighton.

Exclusive: Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building has locked in the first major cast addition for the upcoming fifth season. Keegan-Michael Key has been tapped for a recurring role. As per usual, details about the storylines and new characters are being kept under wraps.

Production on the new season, which will be solving Lester’s murder, started earlier this week in New York with the show’s four series regulars — stars/executive producers Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez as well as Michael Cyril Creighton — returning. Once again, they will be surrounded by a recurring cast of big names, starting with Key.

Season 4 features the show’s starriest cast yet, including the return of Meryl Streep, joined by Eugene Levy, Zach Galifianakis, Eva Longoria, Jane Lynch, Richard Kind, Melissa McCarthy, Kumail Nanjiani and Molly Shannon.

The Oscars will honor the best movie of the year this Sunday, but the infamous Razzie Awards have crowned the “worst” of 2024’s films.

Sony’s much-derided superhero film “Madame Web” has the (dis)honor of winning three Razzies, including worst picture, actress for Dakota Johnson and screenplay. “Joker: Folie à Deux,” another divisive superhero entry,” led with seven nominations and took home screen combo for Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga and prequel, remake, rip-off or sequel.

Francis Ford Coppola won for directing his big-budget epic “Megalopolis,” and star Jon Voight won supporting actor for the film — shared with his turns in “Reagan,” “Shadow Land” and “Strangers.” Coppola’s “Megalopolis” received six nominations, which was tied for second-most nods with “Madame Web,” “Borderlands” and “Reagan.”

The famed filmmaker responded to his Razzies on Instagram, saying “box office is only about money, and like war, stupidity and politics has no true place in our future.

One of my favorite types of movie to watch is the wilderness-set slasher movie, particularly summer camp slashers, with my favorite film franchise being Friday the 13th. I’m always on the lookout for a new summer camp slasher to watch – which is why the trailer for Marshmallow caught my eye. A campfire horror story becomes a living nightmare in the upcoming horror movie Marshmallow, and the summer camp horror movie has been dated for a spring release.

Hemlock Circle will release Marshmallow in theaters on April 11, 2025.

In the film, “At a secluded summer camp, Morgan, a shy and introverted 12-year-old, is thrust into a living nightmare when a legendary campfire tale becomes real. As a mysterious figure begins stalking the camp, Morgan and his newfound friends must embark on a perilous journey that will force them to confront their deepest fears and question the very nature of their existence.”

Raunchy rom-com There's Something About Mary is climbing the streaming chart, currently sitting at number six on Hulu. Starring Ben Stiller and Cameron Diaz, the comedy was directed by the Farrelly Brothers (Peter and Bobby), and became a massive smash hit when it premiered in July 1998. The film went on to earn nearly $370 million at the global box office against a $23 million production budget. It currently sits at a positive 84% critical and, surprisingly, only 61% audience on Rotten Tomatoes.

Following the success of Dumb and Dumber in 1994, and, to a lesser extent, Kingpin in 1996, the Farrelly Brothers went to work on There's Something About Mary, which starred Stiller as Ted, Diaz as Mary, and Matt Dillon as Healy. Years after a disastrous high school date with his crush Mary (you have to see it to believe it), Ted gets another chance years later when his best friend Dom (Chris Elliott) suggests he find her.

The 45th Golden Raspberry Awards (Razzies) will be held on March 1, 2025, to recognize the worst films of 2024. The nominees were originally set to be announced on January 16, but due to wildfires in Southern California, the announcement was delayed several times, eventually being revealed on January 21.

The nominees were chosen by 1,202 members of the Golden Raspberry Foundation, including movie fans, critics, and journalists. This year, many comic book adaptations received nominations, such as ‘The Crow,’ ‘Madame Web,’ ‘Joker: Folie à Deux,’ and ‘Kraven the Hunter.’

Several well-known actors, including Ariana DeBose, Cate Blanchett, and Joaquin Phoenix, were also mentioned, with Jon Voight getting a nod for his roles in four films. 2024 was really bad for superhero adaptations considering that the movies received eighteen nominations overall.

There are few awards shows more mean-spirited than the Razzie Awards, which each year join the awards season circus to ridicule the previous year’s most notable flops. 2024 gave the Razzies plenty of punching bags, as Joker: Folie a Deux, Megalopolis, and Madame Web were among the nominees for Worst Picture.

The other films rounding out the five Worst Picture nominees were video game adaptation Borderlands and Dennis Quaid vanity project/biopic Reagan. All five movies were also well-represented in additional categories including Worst Actor, Worst Actress and Worst Screen Combo.

This year’s Academy Award nominations are set to be announced Thursday, after being delayed due to the devastating Los Angeles fires. Keegan-Michael Key is shaping up for a busy 2025 as he has two dream projects currently in development.

The Emmy winner said he “has a good feeling” about what this year has in store while teasing an upcoming sports project and another in the action genre. “We’ll see how it goes,” he added.

“I don’t know how to answer without saying things I can’t say. If only I could tell you,” Key told People.

“I have two projects in development that I’m very excited about,” he noted. “Both are checks on my bucket list. One goes in the sports world direction and one goes in the action direction, which is very different than a lot of the work that I have done in the past.”

In March, Deadline announced Key was cast in the Amazon MGM Studios crime thriller Play Dirty, based on Donald E. Westlake’s Parker novels.

One of producer Norman Lear’s final projects will be released on Prime Video next month.

Laverne Cox returns to small-town life in Clean Slate, one of the late Norman Lear’s last shows, at Prime Video.

The streamer released the trailer today for the eight-episode comedy series, which premieres February 6.

Cox and and George Wallace star in the comedy which follows Harry (Wallace), an old-school car wash owner in Alabama who has a lot of soul searching to do when the child he once called “son” returns after 17 years as a proud trans woman named Desiree (Cox). Her homecoming brings together a hilarious cast of friends, coworkers, and love interests as Desiree and Harry try to get it right the second time around.

Cast also includes Telma Hopkins, D.K. Uzoukwu, Jay Wilkison, and Norah Murphy.

Chris Hemsworth's path to superstardom has been paved by franchise films. One of his first roles was playing George Kirk in the 2009 film Star Trek. The supporting role was high profile and paved the way for other opportunities. Two years after he played that role, he made his Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) debut playing the titular god in Thor. Ben Stiller has been in a lot of movies over the years that have been hit or miss with critics, but when it comes to the film of his that he thinks pundits completely missed the point of? That’s easy: Zoolander 2. Stiller reprised his role as male supermodel Derek Zoolander for the 2016 sequel, which – like the first film – he also directed and co-wrote. Produced on a budget of $55 million, the movie was a box-office flop, earning just $56 million in receipts.

Christmas bargain shopping usually doesn’t start until December 26. But this week’s Video on Demand top 10 lists suggest the sales started early. And once again this year, Ron Howard’s “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” (Universal) leads the way.

Overall, nine different holiday-related movies charted either at iTunes or Fandango (as VOD) or among the current top 10 movies streaming on Netflix. For the latter, that includes their original thriller “Carry-On,” with the Christmas Eve-set movie starring Tagon Egerton and Jason Bateman #1 for the second straight week.

It’s an odd year for VOD, with fewer than usual top recent films getting a pre-holiday release with potential digital gift ability. None of November’s four biggest hits, “Gladiator II” will go digital after its fifth weekend in theaters. It is likely to lead VOD activity both because of its strengths and the lack of competition during this period.

Paul Rudd and Jack Black are teaming up for a new version of the campy 1997 cult classic Anaconda for Sony Pictures, and to announce the release date, the pair made a hilarious video together (below). In the short clip, Black promises, "There's gonna be a big f**kin' snake, and it's gonna rip." Two comic legends and this description should be more than enough to put butts in seats come Christmas Day 2025, when the movie will hit theaters.

Little else is known about the project, which was first announced back in August 2024. Given the casting of Rudd and Black, it's clear the studio, Sony Pictures, wants to take the Anaconda franchise into more intentionally comedic territory. Before he became the "Yellowstone" universe impresario he is today, Taylor Sheridan was a struggling actor who, after a recurring role on "Sons of Anarchy," decided to turn his attention to writing. It's a good thing he did, too, because he has since built nothing short of an empire for himself with "Yellowstone" and its ever expanding universe, home to a bewildering amount of series which will now include the recently confirmed Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser spin-off.

But since he left acting behind, Sheridan hasn't just managed to take over the small screen. Even before "Yellowstone" launched in 2019, the man was churning out an impressive run of crime drama/thrillers which included such well-respected fare as the Denis Villeneuve-directed "Sicario" and snowy shocking thriller "Wind River." Both films comprised part of what Sheridan called his "American Frontier Trilogy," and there's another film that also belongs to that group: 2016's "Hell or High Water.

Pablo Larraín’s opera biopic “Maria” is the latest and last of this year’s Netflix’s Oscar top Best Picture and acting contender films to stream on the service. And like “The Piano Lesson” and “Emilia Pérez” (never listed), “Maria” had a short shelf life among top-viewed titles. It debuted at #4, placed for two more days, then dropped off before this weekend..

The streamer continues to do very well in Oscar nominations and has won top prizes. But Netflix has so far failed to win Best Picture or either lead acting prizes. The company’s top contenders always get some theatrical play. But in that absence, how they do on the site remains a gauge of how popular they are, and public interest is always a nice arrow for any awards campaign to have in its quiver.

The VOD top 10s this week at iTunes (ranking by transactions daily) and Fandango are more conventional.

One of Dear Santa's main actors has recently made their debut in a huge franchise on Disney+, making their December 2024 even more impressive. Despite a disappointing rating of just 22% on Rotten Tomatoes, the Dear Santa cast has still managed to entertain swathes of people on Paramount+, but one figure from the movie has had far more success in a project on another platform.

Although Dear Santa's ending teases a possible sequel, a follow-up movie hasn't yet been greenlit. This isn't surprising, as Paramount+ will likely want to monitor the movie's performance throughout the holiday season before deciding whether to go ahead and commission a follow-up. Although Dear Santa hit Paramount+ in late November, the Christmas movie's popularity has understandably ballooned in December as the big day approaches. Jack Black is brilliant as Asmodeus in Dear Santa, but his co-star has been given the chance to shine even brighter this month.

Netflix still has several holiday flicks on the way before 2024 ends and Christmas fades away. Richard Curtis’ book-based animated film That Christmas, directed by Simon Otto, arrives early on in the month, and Sabrina Carpenter has a musical holiday comedy special also out early in December.

Angelina Jolie’s portrayal of opera singer Maria Callas, which is generating a lot of awards buzz conversation, arrives Dec. 11. A Christmas-set thriller Carry-On will be available starting Dec. 13, and Tyler Perry’s film The Six Triple Eight, which is based on real life events and figures, will be out Dec. 20.

Exclusive: Robert De Niro, Ben Stiller, Teri Polo and Blythe Danner are in early talks to return for a new film in the Meet the Parents franchise, in development at Universal Pictures.

Plot details are being kept inside the circle of trust. John Hamburg — who co-wrote all three prior films in the franchise, and produced the most recent, Little Fockers — is set to write the screenplay. No word yet on who’s directing.

Jane Rosenthal and De Niro are returning to produce through Tribeca Productions, along with Jay Roach — who directed the first two films and produced all three past installments — through Delirious Media. Stiller and John Lesher will also produce through Red Hour Films. Executive Vice President of Production Development Matt Reilly and Director of Production Development Jacqueline Garrell will oversee the project for the studio.

Inspired by John Hughes' short story Vacation '58 originally published in National Lampoon magazine, the films follow the chaotic misadventures of the Griswold family and their well-meaning yet hapless patriarch, Clark Griswold, whose attempts to create the perfect vacations for his family spiral into disastrous and hilariously awkward situations.

Bobby Farrelly is to direct 'Driver's Ed'.The 66-year-old filmmaker – who has worked on comedy films such as 'Dumb and Dumber' and 'Kingpin' with his brother Peter Farrelly – is set to take on the teen ensemble comedy as his next project.'Driver's Ed' has gained traction in recent months and casting is underway for an early 2025 shoot in North Carolina.The picture tells the story of teenagers who steal the school driver's ed car to go on a road trip to help a high school senior track down his college freshman girlfriend and win her back.Jonas and Jennifer Pate have commissioned and developed the original screenplay by Thomas Moffett and the project is the first of a new cost-efficient movie slate that they are putting together.Producers will include the Pates and Tfc Management's David Stone as well as Ford and Aghi Koh of AGC.

Ben Stiller's new Christmas movie has become a streaming success despite its 37% Rotten Tomatoes score. Since the 1990s, Stiller has been a consistent comedic presence in film and television, starting with his sketch comedy series, The Ben Stiller Show. He later made appearances on shows like Friends, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Arrested Development, and Extras, the last of which earned him a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series.

Exclusive: Following the November 25 Paramount+ launch of his holiday comedy Dear Santa, Bobby Farrelly has closed a deal to direct Driver’s Ed, a teen ensemble comedy to be fully financed and co-produced by Stuart Ford’s AGC Studio.

While we’d reported in October that Sporkinfeesten, a “finding your roots” style family vacation comedy loosely inspired by true events, would be Farrelly’s next project after Aaron and Will Eisenberg’s hot spec landed at Amazon MGM Studios, Driver’s Ed has gained traction first and moved to the top of the filmmaker’s docket, with casting underway for an early 2025 shoot in North Carolina.

For the first time in ten years, comedic directors Bobby and Peter Farrelly have joined forces once more for the Christmas movie Dear Santa, now out on Paramount+. Fittingly, that big-screen creative reunion between the brothers came just three weeks ahead of the 30th anniversary of their comedy classic feature debut, Dumb and Dumber, and marked their first collaboration since its sequel, Dumb and Dumber To. In the time since, they've managed to find their own successes apart from each other, with Peter directing and co-writing the Best Picture-winning Green Book, while Bobby has since helmed the Woody Harrelson-led Champions and a few episodes of his brother's hit show Loudermilk. After Dear Santa, though, they don't expect to be apart as long, and they may even revisit the beloved idiotic characters that started it all.
