The Oscars will honor the best movie of the year this Sunday, but the infamous Razzie Awards have crowned the “worst” of 2024’s films.
Sony’s much-derided superhero film “Madame Web” has the (dis)honor of winning three Razzies, including worst picture, actress for Dakota Johnson and screenplay. “Joker: Folie à Deux,” another divisive superhero entry,” led with seven nominations and took home screen combo for Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga and prequel, remake, rip-off or sequel.
Francis Ford Coppola won for directing his big-budget epic “Megalopolis,” and star Jon Voight won supporting actor for the film — shared with his turns in “Reagan,” “Shadow Land” and “Strangers.” Coppola’s “Megalopolis” received six nominations, which was tied for second-most nods with “Madame Web,” “Borderlands” and “Reagan.”
The famed filmmaker responded to his Razzies on Instagram, saying “box office is only about money, and like war, stupidity and politics has no true place in our future.

One of my favorite types of movie to watch is the wilderness-set slasher movie, particularly summer camp slashers, with my favorite film franchise being Friday the 13th. I’m always on the lookout for a new summer camp slasher to watch – which is why the trailer for Marshmallow caught my eye. Hemlock Circle Productions will be giving this film a theatrical release on April 11th, and the trailer can be seen in the embed above.
The feature directorial debut of Daniel DelPurgatorio, who co-directed the animated short film Tales of the Black Freighter (which tied in with Zack Snyder’s version of Watchmen), Marshmallow centers on Morgan (played by Kue Lawrence of The Amityville Murders), an introverted 12-year-old suffering from nightmares who heads to a secluded summer camp. Morgan realizes that a spooky campfire story about the camp has come to life as a mysterious figure starts to stalk the campers,...

Raunchy rom-com There's Something About Mary is climbing the streaming chart, currently sitting at number six on Hulu. Starring Ben Stiller and Cameron Diaz, the comedy was directed by the Farrelly Brothers (Peter and Bobby), and became a massive smash hit when it premiered in July 1998. The film went on to earn nearly $370 million at the global box office against a $23 million production budget. It currently sits at a positive 84% critical and, surprisingly, only 61% audience on Rotten Tomatoes.
Following the success of Dumb and Dumber in 1994, and, to a lesser extent, Kingpin in 1996, the Farrelly Brothers went to work on There's Something About Mary, which starred Stiller as Ted, Diaz as Mary, and Matt Dillon as Healy. Years after a disastrous high school date with his crush Mary (you have to see it to believe it), Ted gets another chance years later when his best friend Dom (Chris Elliott) suggests he find her.

The 45th Golden Raspberry Awards (Razzies) will be held on March 1, 2025, to recognize the worst films of 2024. The nominees were originally set to be announced on January 16, but due to wildfires in Southern California, the announcement was delayed several times, eventually being revealed on January 21.
The nominees were chosen by 1,202 members of the Golden Raspberry Foundation, including movie fans, critics, and journalists. This year, many comic book adaptations received nominations, such as ‘The Crow,’ ‘Madame Web,’ ‘Joker: Folie à Deux,’ and ‘Kraven the Hunter.’
Several well-known actors, including Ariana DeBose, Cate Blanchett, and Joaquin Phoenix, were also mentioned, with Jon Voight getting a nod for his roles in four films. 2024 was really bad for superhero adaptations considering that the movies received eighteen nominations overall.

There are few awards shows more mean-spirited than the Razzie Awards, which each year join the awards season circus to ridicule the previous year’s most notable flops. 2024 gave the Razzies plenty of punching bags, as Joker: Folie a Deux, Megalopolis, and Madame Web were among the nominees for Worst Picture.
The other films rounding out the five Worst Picture nominees were video game adaptation Borderlands and Dennis Quaid vanity project/biopic Reagan. All five movies were also well-represented in additional categories including Worst Actor, Worst Actress and Worst Screen Combo.
Thanks to the brave heroes who vote for the Razzies, Jack Black received two separate nominations — one for Worst Actor after playing Satan in the Paramount+ original film Dear Santa, and one for Worst Supporting Actor as the voice of Claptrap in Borderlands. The Razzie Awards spread the “wealth” this year, with five movies receiving a leading six nominations apiece, including in the unfortunate Worst Picture race: Borderlands, Joker: Folie à Deux, Madame Web, Megalopolis, and Reagan. Meanwhile, Unfrosted received four bids, while The Crow nabbed two.
“At the dawn of a dark era, the 45th Razzies remain ready to pounce,” declared the organization, which announced its bids one day after the inauguration of the 47th president and two days before the 2025 Oscars nominations. Fun fact: the ultimate “winners” of these categories will take home a “$4.97 gold spray-painted statuette.”
Oscar winners nominated for Golden Raspberries this year include Joaquin Pheonix (Joker: Folie à Deux), Cate Blanchett (Borderlands), Lady Gaga (Joker: Folie à Deux), Ariana DeBose (Argylle and Kraven the Hunter), and Jon Voight.

This year’s Academy Award nominations are set to be announced Thursday, after being delayed due to the devastating Los Angeles fires. As such, the annual Golden Raspberry Awards got to get ahead of the Oscars on Tuesday with their own crop of nominees, highlighting what its members believe to be the worst in film for 2024. “Joker: Folie à Deux” leads the field with seven nominations, while “Madame Web,” “Megalopolis,” “Borderlands” and “Reagan” are close behind with six nods apiece.
For “Joker: Folie à Deux,” the musical sequel to Todd Phillips’ Oscar-nominated DC Comics crime film “Joker,” landed nods in worst picture, director, screenplay and prequel, remake, rip-off or sequel. Lady Gaga and Joaquin Phoenix are both up for worst actress and worst actor, respectively, as well as worst screen combo. Keegan-Michael Key is shaping up for a busy 2025 as he has two dream projects currently in development.
The Emmy winner said he “has a good feeling” about what this year has in store while teasing an upcoming sports project and another in the action genre. “We’ll see how it goes,” he added.
“I don’t know how to answer without saying things I can’t say. If only I could tell you,” Key told People.
“I have two projects in development that I’m very excited about,” he noted. “Both are checks on my bucket list. One goes in the sports world direction and one goes in the action direction, which is very different than a lot of the work that I have done in the past.”
In March, Deadline announced Key was cast in the Amazon MGM Studios crime thriller Play Dirty, based on Donald E. Westlake’s Parker novels.

Chris Hemsworth's path to superstardom has been paved by franchise films. One of his first roles was playing George Kirk in the 2009 film Star Trek. The supporting role was high profile and paved the way for other opportunities. Two years after he played that role, he made his Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) debut playing the titular god in Thor. Hemsworth would reprise his thunderous role in many MCU films, getting both solo and group features in the Avengers movies.
Outside the MCU, Hemsworth has been in both one-off and other franchise films. He plays the Huntsman in the Snow White and the Hunstman movies as well as a supporting character in the 2016 remake of Ghostbusters. He also dabbled in the Men in Black franchise through his role in Men in Black: International, and even played a Mad Max villain in last year's Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, which was a prequel to Fury Road.

Alan Ritchson may well be our big slab of beef that is Jack Reacher right now in Amazon's hit series Reacher, but Tom Cruise's equally intense portrayal of the violent drifter created by Lee Child is also proving popular with streaming audiences now. The second film starring Cruise, Jack Reacher: Never Go Back, has climbed into the Paramount+ Top 10 for movies in the United States, according to FlixPatrol, which includes a lineup that features Jack Black's festive frolic in Dear Santa, Naomi Scott doing her best not to look happy in Smile 2 and, oh, Tom Cruise in Top Gun: Maverick.

The extensive Paramount+ movie library continues to expand with a selection of high-quality cinematic classics from the iconic studio as well as some of its more recent hit movies to kick off the new year. A lot of attention these days is paid to Paramount+'s incredible success on the television side of things, thanks largely to Taylor Sheridan's wide collection of shows, including Landman, Lioness, and the recently wrapped Yellowstone. However, January 2025 once again proves there is a terrific selection of movies on the platform to watch.

Ben Stiller has been in a lot of movies over the years that have been hit or miss with critics, but when it comes to the film of his that he thinks pundits completely missed the point of? That’s easy: Zoolander 2. Stiller reprised his role as male supermodel Derek Zoolander for the 2016 sequel, which – like the first film – he also directed and co-wrote. Produced on a budget of $55 million, the movie was a box-office flop, earning just $56 million in receipts.
Nominated for seven Golden Raspberry Awards, Zoolander 2 was heavily panned by critics (and fans) for being nothing more than a rehash of the first movie. The film sees Stiller’s character reunite with Owen Wilson’s Hansel McDonald after years of living in seclusion, only for the two to team up with Valentina Valencia (Penélope Cruz) to stop someone from killing the world’s most beautiful people.

Christmas bargain shopping usually doesn’t start until December 26. But this week’s Video on Demand top 10 lists suggest the sales started early. And once again this year, Ron Howard’s “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” (Universal) leads the way.
Overall, nine different holiday-related movies charted either at iTunes or Fandango (as VOD) or among the current top 10 movies streaming on Netflix. For the latter, that includes their original thriller “Carry-On,” with the Christmas Eve-set movie starring Tagon Egerton and Jason Bateman #1 for the second straight week.
It’s an odd year for VOD, with fewer than usual top recent films getting a pre-holiday release with potential digital gift ability. None of November’s four biggest hits, “Gladiator II” will go digital after its fifth weekend in theaters.
Paul Rudd and Jack Black are teaming up for a new version of the campy 1997 cult classic Anaconda for Sony Pictures, and to announce the release date, the pair made a hilarious video together (below). In the short clip, Black promises, "There's gonna be a big f**kin' snake, and it's gonna rip." Two comic legends and this description should be more than enough to put butts in seats come Christmas Day 2025, when the movie will hit theaters.
Little else is known about the project, which was first announced back in August 2024. Given the casting of Rudd and Black, it's clear the studio, Sony Pictures, wants to take the Anaconda franchise into more intentionally comedic territory. It has also been suggested the film will be a meta take on the B-movie giant animal subgenre and the original specifically, with a plot involving two old friends who get dragged into the jungle to make a movie,...

Before he became the "Yellowstone" universe impresario he is today, Taylor Sheridan was a struggling actor who, after a recurring role on "Sons of Anarchy," decided to turn his attention to writing. It's a good thing he did, too, because he has since built nothing short of an empire for himself with "Yellowstone" and its ever expanding universe, home to a bewildering amount of series which will now include the recently confirmed Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser spin-off.
But since he left acting behind, Sheridan hasn't just managed to take over the small screen. Even before "Yellowstone" launched in 2019, the man was churning out an impressive run of crime drama/thrillers which included such well-respected fare as the Denis Villeneuve-directed "Sicario" and snowy shocking thriller "Wind River." Both films comprised part of what Sheridan called his "American Frontier Trilogy," and there's another film that also belongs to that group: 2016's "Hell or High Water.

Pablo Larraín’s opera biopic “Maria” is the latest and last of this year’s Netflix’s Oscar top Best Picture and acting contender films to stream on the service. And like “The Piano Lesson” and “Emilia Pérez” (never listed), “Maria” had a short shelf life among top-viewed titles. It debuted at #4, placed for two more days, then dropped off before this weekend..
The streamer continues to do very well in Oscar nominations and has won top prizes. But Netflix has so far failed to win Best Picture or either lead acting prizes. The company’s top contenders always get some theatrical play. But in that absence, how they do on the site remains a gauge of how popular they are, and public interest is always a nice arrow for any awards campaign to have in its quiver.

“Dear Santa” (2024) is a playful and heartwarming movie about a Christmas wish list that gets delivered to the wrong addressee because the name was misspelled. “Christmas is about more than just presents. It’s about the spirit of giving, the joy of being with loved ones, and… a little bit of chaos!” ~ Satan Storyline: In this 2024 film, a little boy wants to send a letter to Santa, only he spells the name incorrectly and it’s delivered to the Satan. It’s not the fault of the post office. They deliver mail to wherever the sender tells them to. Lol. Satan tells him that he will grant him 3 wishes and once they are granted, he has to give up his soul. This is a typical cheesy plot for a Christmas holiday movie, but Jack Black is known for his offbeat humor and this role was “tailor-made” for him. The child actor,...

One of Dear Santa's main actors has recently made their debut in a huge franchise on Disney+, making their December 2024 even more impressive. Despite a disappointing rating of just 22% on Rotten Tomatoes, the Dear Santa cast has still managed to entertain swathes of people on Paramount+, but one figure from the movie has had far more success in a project on another platform.
Although Dear Santa's ending teases a possible sequel, a follow-up movie hasn't yet been greenlit. This isn't surprising, as Paramount+ will likely want to monitor the movie's performance throughout the holiday season before deciding whether to go ahead and commission a follow-up. Although Dear Santa hit Paramount+ in late November, the Christmas movie's popularity has understandably ballooned in December as the big day approaches. Jack Black is brilliant as Asmodeus in Dear Santa, but his co-star has been given the chance to shine even brighter this month.

Warning: Spoilers ahead for Paramount+'s Dear Santa movie.Ben Stiller's surprise appearance in Dear Santa is one of the movie's best moments, and although it works well in isolation, Stiller's presence also serves as a clever nod to another Jack Black project from over two decades ago. Stiller's Dear Santa casting places him in his second 2024 Christmas movie - with the other being Hulu's Nutcrackers. So, the holidays this year mark an acting resurgence for Ben Stiller after focusing far more on behind-the-scenes roles in recent years.
Although he doesn't appear until near the end of Dear Santa, Stiller has a surpisingly large impact on the plot. Fans who follow Jack Black's career outside the movie industry will get a little more out of Stiller's role in the Dear Santa cast than those who only know Black as an actor. Chevy Chase's 35-year-old Christmas comedy cements its status as an iconic holiday movie with its latest streaming success. After becoming the breakout star of the first season of Saturday Night Live during the 1970s, Chase left the sketch show in its second season and went on to become a comedic lead, starring in some of the most successful comedies of the 1980s. These include Caddyshack, Caddyshack II, Fletch, Fletch Lives, Oh! Heavenly Dog, Modern Problems, Spies Like Us, and Three Amigos.
One of Chase's most successful comedy ventures of the 1980s was the National Lampoon's Vacation movies, starting with the 1983 film. Inspired by John Hughes' short story Vacation '58 originally published in National Lampoon magazine, the films follow the chaotic misadventures of the Griswold family and their well-meaning yet hapless patriarch, Clark Griswold, whose attempts to create the perfect vacations for his family spiral into disastrous and hilariously awkward situations.

Ben Stiller's new Christmas movie has become a streaming success despite its 37% Rotten Tomatoes score. Since the 1990s, Stiller has been a consistent comedic presence in film and television, starting with his sketch comedy series, The Ben Stiller Show. He later made appearances on shows like Friends, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Arrested Development, and Extras, the last of which earned him a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series.
After beginning his career in television, Stiller transitioned to film acting and starred in a string of successful studio comedies, such as There’s Something About Mary, Zoolander, Along Came Polly, Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story, Tropic Thunder, and The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. However, since the mid-2010s, Stiller has shifted back to television, directing episodes of Severance and other shows. Now, Stiller stars in two of 2024's most offbeat Christmas comedies, Nutcrackers and Dear Santa.

For once, the top 10 movies on iTunes and Fandango aren’t close to a mirror image of each other. “Conclave” (Focus) and “Terrifier 3” (Cineverse), both successful October releases that exceeded theatrical expectations, were released on PVOD last week. They had the same availability yet vastly different results.
Edward Berger’s top award-contending “Conclave” took an immediate top spot at iTunes from its first day, yet is only #8 for the full-week in the Fandango top 10. Damien Leone’s “Terrifier 3” leads at Fandango, yet only briefly appeared during the week at iTunes (debuting at #3) before dropping off the list. It currently ranks #14.

Lindsay Lohan is once again the darling of Netflix as her new Christmas movie, Our Little Secret, has topped the global and domestic charts. While the Freaky Friday star’s latest offering has proven to be a big draw for viewers looking for something to pass the time, there is no secret that the film has not received the best reviews of 2024’s Netflix festive offerings. Still, it keeps up the family-friendly marketing. But what if this wasn't the only movie with this plotline? And what if that other movie had the same title? And what if it was set for a release in the same year?
That's the...

For the first time in ten years, comedic directors Bobby and Peter Farrelly have joined forces once more for the Christmas movie Dear Santa, now out on Paramount+. Fittingly, that big-screen creative reunion between the brothers came just three weeks ahead of the 30th anniversary of their comedy classic feature debut, Dumb and Dumber, and marked their first collaboration since its sequel, Dumb and Dumber To. In the time since, they've managed to find their own successes apart from each other, with Peter directing and co-writing the Best Picture-winning Green Book, while Bobby has since helmed the Woody Harrelson-led Champions and a few episodes of his brother's hit show Loudermilk. After Dear Santa, though, they don't expect to be apart as long, and they may even revisit the beloved idiotic characters that started it all.

Warning: this article contains spoilers for Dear Santa
Dear Santa saw Jack Black step into the sinister role of Asmodeus, a demonic figure from Jewish lore. Paramount+'s Christmas comedy Dear Santa follows a boy named Liam who makes wishes after accidentally sending his Christmas list to Satan rather than Santa. Dear Santa's cast is led by Jack Black as Santa/Asmodeus who hopes to trick Liam into selling his soul. While the premise may sound unusual for a family-friendly Christmas movie, Black's comical portrayal of the demon keeps everything lighthearted and fun.
As the movie progresses, the audience gets a bit more insight into Asmodeus' plan to trick Liam as well as his failure to become a full demon by Dear Santa's ending. It is revealed that Asmodeus is only one of many demons commanded by Lucifer, and is not even a very good demon at that. While Dear...

Hollywood may be enjoying a long weekend giving thanks, cooking turkeys, and parading supersized Spider-Mans (Spider-Men?), but that doesn't mean this week's Empire Podcast is any less stuffed to the gills with guests, greatness, and guesty greatness than usual. And talking of guesty greatness, our first guest this week is Auli'i Cravalho, Moana herself, who sits down with Chris Hewitt to talk about returning as a master wayfinder in this week's newly released Moana 2 — and to talk about the art of not talking to people on planes [16:03 — 29:35 approx]. And then, tripling down on the guesty greatness, Ian Freer has an audience with… well, if not the Pope, then the next best thing in the guise of legendary trio Ralph Fiennes, Stanley Tucci, and Isabella Rossellini, the stars of new papal conspiracy thriller Conclave [46:49 — 1:04:52 approx].
Either side of those, with Chris incapacitated by a last-minute case of *checks notes* neck-knack, Helen O'Hara...

This article contains spoilers for Dear Santa (2024)Dear Santa is one of 2024’s most interesting Christmas movies so far, following a young boy who accidentally sends his holiday wishlist to Satan instead of Santa, causing a whole flood of problems for the family that’s left to deal with his slip-up. The film has been met with mixed reviews, with most critics arguing against its inclusion of the devil in what’s otherwise clearly a fairly family-family movie, but there are still plenty of great performances in Dear Santa- namely from Jack Black as Satan himself. The film also includes a cameo from Ben Stiller, Black’s Tropic Thunder co-star.
Black and Stiller first worked together on Tropic Thunder back in 2008, another film that took bold swings with its storytelling and was met with some harsh criticism in response. The comedy follows an American film crew in Southeast Asia...

Warning: Contains Spoilers for Dear SantaIt may sound odd that two prominent characters in Jack Black's new Christmas movie are Satan and Post Malone, but that's the case for Dear Santa. Dear Santa is an exciting film since it's Jack Black's first Christmas movie since The Holiday, which was released in 2006. In addition to Black, the cast of Dear Santa includes the aforementioned Post Malone, Robert Timothy Smith, Brianne Howey, and Keegan-Michael Key. While the film currently has a disappointing audience score of 35% on Rotten Tomatoes, Dear Santa should be enjoyed by fans of Post Malone.
The story of Dear Santa follows Liam, a sixth-grader who writes his Christmas wishlist and mails it out. However, he accidentally misspelled "Santa" as "Satan." Therefore, Jack Black, who plays Satan in the movie, appears to Liam the next day dressed as Santa and grants him three wishes. Dear Santa is clearly not a traditional 2024 Christmas movie,...
