There’s no shortage of movies to stream on Netflix. Any subscriber that logs onto the platform these days will likely see a bunch of new releases, gruesome horror films, and sweet rom-coms. But with so many big, flashy studio films and Netflix originals to choose from, it can be difficult for the indie films that flood the streamer to stand out.

For sure, a place in Netflix’s library can be a great opportunity for independent cinema to find an audience it otherwise wouldn’t reach in theaters or on television. But for all the big starry auteur films that Netflix picks up and turns into major awards contenders (see “Marriage Story” or “I’m Thinking of Ending Things”), there’s an under-the-radar, overlooked pick that doesn’t have the names or prestige attached to it, and feels destined to serve as mere library filler as people look for the films they do know.

No matter what mood, situation, or place you’re in, comedy movies can never be a bad idea, because everyone likes to have a good laugh. But sadly, people often confuse comedy films with loudmouthed slapstick humor that is known to dominate the screen. And perhaps this is why the genre of comedy is gradually fading away into oblivion.

With more people looking for drama and action films, comedy is getting sidelined in the world of entertainment. According to Deadline‘s exclusive report, In Memoriam focuses on a veteran Hollywood actor (Maron) who becomes obsessed with being a part of the Academy Awards “In Memoriam” montage after learning about his terminal cancer diagnosis. The actor’s journey tells a heartfelt tale about self-discovery, humility, and ego as he hopes to leave his mark on the industry by becoming immortalized in a time-honored tradition.

Hollywood luminaries are flocking to Hulu's hit comedy mystery as of late, with season 2 featuring star-studded appearances by Cara Delevingne, Amy Schumer, and the legendary Shirley MacLaine.

Rudd has now officially signed on as Broadway actor Ben Glenroy, who we last saw in the season 2 finale having a strange encounter with Steve Martin's character Charles-Haden Savage. In the finale (spoiler alert!), Rudd appears in a flash forward (a year later), as Ben, a snobbish leading actor in Oliver’s (Martin Short) seemingly triumphant return to directing on Broadway. He and Charles exchange less-than-pleasantries in a sinister and vague chat, and as he makes his opening monologue, he literally croaks onstage and dies.

“Hopefully the audience is going to be very excited to know what happened in that year for our trio, and also what happened with that show, and God knows the excitement over having Paul Rudd in the show playing Ben Glenroy, the leading actor of the show, victim or otherwise, knowing that our victims tend to have a lot of screen time in our seasons,” showrunner John Hoffman told TheWrap.

The role will mark Gomez’s first regular television role since her time on the Disney Channel series “Wizards of Waverly Place.” In addition to her successful music career, Gomez has starred in films such as “Spring Breakers,” “Monte Carlo,” the animated “Hotel Transylvania” franchise, and “The Fundamentals of Caring.” She was also an executive producer on the Netflix drama series “13 Reasons Why” and will star in and executive produce the HBO Max cooking show “Selena + Chef.”

HBO Max has given a straight-to-series order to an unscripted cooking series starring Selena Gomez.

The 10-episode series finds the actress and singer trying her hand at cooking while stuck at home in quarantine, with the help of lessons from master chefs over video chat. The series is set to debut this summer.

Christian Navarro, a star of 13 Reasons Why, has defended the Netflix show against criticism from some parents and school officials who say it glamorizes suicide.

Schools across the country have issued warnings to parents over concerns about the show.

At the People and Entertainment Weekly Upfronts party Monday night, Navarro noted the involvement of mental health experts during production.

“I think they’re not watching the same show. When we were working on it, we had tons of mental health experts on set at all times, our producers were very diligent on making sure that the tone was inclusive and helpful and not harmful,” Navarro, 25, told People.

Ready for more? Selena Gomez announced on Instagram on Sunday, May 7, that her Netflix series 13 Reasons Why has been renewed for a second season.

"Their story isn't over. Season 2 of #13ReasonsWhy is coming," the executive producer, 24, captioned a short trailer, which shows b-roll footage of the show's Liberty High School over eerie music.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the drama's second season is set to premiere in 2018 and will consist of 13 hourlong episodes. Brian Yorkey will reportedly return as the showrunner. Season 2 "picks up in the aftermath of Hannah Baker's death and the start of the characters' complicated journeys toward healing and recovery," Netflix said in a statement to THR.

Their story isn't over. Season 2 of #13ReasonsWhy is coming.

Standing up for her work. Selena Gomez addressed the controversy surrounding her Netflix drama 13 Reasons Why amid claims that the show exploits and glamorizes teen suicide.

"We stayed very true to the book and that's initially what Jay Asher created, was a beautifully tragic, complicated yet suspenseful story, and I think that's what we wanted to do," the singer, 24, told the Associated Press, referencing the author of the 2007 young adult novel that the show is based on.

It's one of the hottest new shows on Netflix, but the chief psychologist with the Ottawa Catholic School Board is concerned about how 13 Reasons Why portrays suicide, and she's urging parents to talk to teens about it.

The show tells the story of a 17-year-old girl named Hannah who takes her own life. Before she dies, she sends audiotapes to the people she holds responsible.

While 13 Reasons Why is wildly popular and easily accessible to many high school students, Ottawa Catholic School Board chief psychologist and mental health lead Dr. Elizabeth Paquette doesn't recommend schools use it as a teaching tool when it comes to suicide.
