Paris-based production company Haut et Court and London-based Good Chaos have officially secured the film rights to ‘Paris-Hollywood,’ the debut novel by writer and critic Cécile Mury. The two companies plan to bring the novel to the big screen as a feature film, blending the romantic charm of both French and English-language romantic comedies.
The novel follows the love story between a French journalist and an English-speaking movie star, exploring themes of romance, cultural differences, and self-discovery. Given its unique take on love and relationships, the book has already gained significant attention in the literary world.
Mike Goodridge, CEO of Good Chaos, expressed his excitement about the adaptation, calling ‘Paris-Hollywood’ “a charming and winning read” that intelligently examines “the nature of love and the limits we put on ourselves before falling in love.” He added, “We are thrilled to collaborate with our friends at Haut et Court to create a classic European rom-com.

The Virgin of The Quarry Lake, adapted from the short stories of Mariana Enríquez (Things We Lost in The Fire), recently celebrated its World Premiere at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival. It’s a simmering, atmospheric story that has horror in its heart but mostly plays like a brooding summer hangout with a group of girls on the verge of adulthood where the vibe is all wrong. It’s an Elevated Horror that spends the majority of its time in a coming-of-age story but packs a creeping cold open and a ripping finish.
Directed by Laura Casabé (The Returned) from a screenplay by Benjamin Naishtat (Rojo), this early 2000’s-timepiece follows a young girl caught in a love triangle with a boy and an older “more experienced” woman. In the heat of the Argentinian summer, Natalia (Dolores Oliverio) has fallen in love with Diego (Agustín Sosa). It would be a summer romance for the ages,...

The colors of Mogwai’s volcanic explosions on the cover of The Bad Fire, the gloomy Glaswegians’ 11th record (by their count), are bright red, yellow, white, and periwinkle. Anyone who’s followed the post-rock group’s three-decade history knows, though, that Mogwai’s music burns neon blue — creating pure, clean heat but with the look of a bruise, a sense of confidence but with awareness of the damage that generates it. The title is a Scottish euphemism for Hell, but Mogwai have always favored purgatory.

“The Virgin of the Quarry Lake,” the latest feature from “The Returned” helmer Laura Casabé, sets Argentina’s 2001 economic collapse against a mix of adolescent angst, unbridled desire and supernatural forces. Written by Argentinean filmmaker Benjamín Naishtat and drawn from author Mariana Enríquez’s short stories, the film is set to premiere at Sundance in the World Cinema Dramatic strand. It’s a global affair, co-produced by Spain, Argentina and Mexico involving Mostra Cine, Ajimolido Films, Caponeto and Mr. Miyagi Films.
Producers David Matamoros and Ángeles Hernández of Mr. Miyagi first encountered the project during the San Sebastián Film Festival’s Co-Production Forum. Already fans of Enríquez’s work, they were also aware of Casabé, following her prize-winning bow at the Sitges Film Festival with her debut, “The Returned.” Talks with the Argentine and Mexican teams soon led to their involvement.

The Kraken is about to be released. Ralph Fiennes is having one hell of a year, especially with the recent release of The Return. Based on the classic Greek play by Homer, the movie stars Fiennes as Odysseus returning to Ithaca 20 years after the Trojan War. The film has received great reviews, and the actor got a lot of attention for the ludicrous physical shape he got in for the role. However, The Returned is far from Fiennes' first foray into classic Greek storytelling, as he previously starred alongside Liam Neeson in the divisive 2010 remake of Clash of the Titans.
Clash of the Titans is currently streaming on Max, and sits at the No. 10 spot on the streamer's top 10 movies of the week ranking. Directed by Louis Leterrier, Clash of the Titans follows Perseus (Sam Worthington) as he embarks on a dangerous mission to slay the god of the underworld,...

If you're looking for a high-concept, mysterious sci-fi show in the vein of "Under the Dome," "From," or "Manifest," Stephen King has a recommendation for you. The master of horror has always loved sharing recommendations for spooky genre offerings on social media, and this week he took to Threads (he left the cesspool formerly known as Twitter in November) to highlight the UK-made series "The Midwich Cuckoos."
"The Midwich Cuckoos (Amazon): Surprised there hasn't been more talk about this," King recently posted on Threads. "It's a brilliant re-imagining of John Wyndham's classic sci-fi/horror novel." The title of one of Wyndam's best-known novels may not sound familiar to you, but the name of its earlier film adaptation might: "The Midwich Cuckoos" became "Village of the Damned" when Wolf Rilla adapted it in 1960. That version of the story is considered an all-time-great horror movie, alternately dubbed as an "excellent...

Horror and heartbreak don’t sound like they would go hand in hand, yet there is no better way to describe the television series The Returned. An adaptation of the French series Les Revenants, The Returned mixes elements of horror and sorrow and crafts a story that is more about grief than it is gore. The show follows residents of a small town whose lives are upended when deceased loved ones suddenly come back to life and act as if not a day has passed. The series is as beautiful as it is devastating, and though it may seem like a simple ghost story on the surface, The Returned ismuch more.

You just finished The Last Night at Tremore Beach, the latest mind-boggling offering from Oriol Paulo, and now you don’t know what to do with life. Well, the only way to fill the void is to start something similar, and that’s why you’re here. So in this article, I am going to suggest certain movies and shows that you might consider watching if you enjoyed Oriol Paulo’s Netflix show. I hope all of you find something here.
Caddo Lake (2024)
Let us start with something from the very recent past. I could have just suggested Dark instead, but assuming many of you have already seen that show, I urge you to give Caddo Lake a try. Yes, the latest M. Night Shyamalan-produced horror-thriller takes a whole lot of ideas from the iconic Netflix series, but the good thing about the movie is that it also implements the ideas really well.

It’s been over a year since we said goodbye to the Roy family and their dysfunctional dealings on HBO’s top-tier “Succession,” and while we still have a Waystar RoyCo-sized hole in our hearts, there’s thankfully no shortage of workplace and family drama on our TVs, from “The Bear” to another recent HBO hit, “Industry,” which just wrapped up its third season with its water-cooler finale.

First released by Image Comics in 2012, the horror series Revival quickly became a hit for creators Tim Seely and Mike Norton, nominated for three Harvey Awards in 2013. While it unfortunately lost out to the juggernaut that was Saga that year, the comics nevertheless became beloved by many who have long been wanting to see a live-action adaptation. Wait no longer, because production on Revival has begun, and its main cast has just been announced.
Per Variety, Revival will star Melanie Scrofano (Wynonna Earp), Romy Weltman (Backstage), David James Elliott (Jag) and Andy McQueen (Outer Banks), all of whom will lead the original series for the SyFy network, which was created by showrunners Aaron B. Koontz and Luke Boyce. Cameras are now rolling in New Brunswick, Canada, with eyeballs firmly fixed on a 2025 release.

Zombie flicks are a unique kind of survivalist horror. They usually feature rotting flesh, chase scenes, headshots, and a lot of biting. Robin Campillos 2004 directorial debut, They Came Back (Les Revenants in French), refuses to humor these genre staples. This French film favors a slow-burn, psychological angle to scare its audience. They Came Back follows three families in a provincial French town after 13,000 dead people suddenly reappear over the course of two hours. The mayors wife, Martha (Catherine Samie), a couples six-year-old son, Sylvain (Saady Delas), and young widow Rachel's (Graldine Pailhas) husband, Mathieu (Jonathan Zacca), are the primary focuses of the film. A nationwide phenomenon, the town hesitantly releases the returned to their families and allows for reintegration into the workforce. Rather than cloaking the film in darkness, Campillo purposefully keeps most of his horror in the daylight. There, he forces the audience and the characters to confront the...

The Returned was cancelled after the first season due to declining viewership compared to Bates Motel. The French version, Les Revenants, secured two seasons with a focus on engaging narrative and themes. Cultural differences and storytelling challenges may have led to the American adaptation's cancellation.
The Returned, an A&e supernatural drama series starring horror movie star Mary Elizabeth Winstead, embarked on an ambitious journey to captivate the American audience with a narrative that stretches the boundaries of life and death, but many have asked, "Is The Returned cancelled?". The 2015 series was an adaptation of the critically acclaimed 2012 French show Les Revenants. The premise of both series is hauntingly intriguing: in a small, seemingly tranquil town, the dead begin to return. Not as zombies or spirits, but as living, breathing individuals who haven’t aged a day and have no memory of their passing.

A loud, high-pitched sound echoes through the streets of Oslo. Car alarms start going off everywhere. A citywide blackout begins. An elderly man, draped over his grandson’s grave, begins to hear the sound of muffled knocks coming from under the ground. “Grandpa is coming,” he says repeatedly. He grabs a shovel and begins to dig. So begins Handling the Undead, Thea Hvistendahl‘s somber feature directorial debut that acts as a haunting meditation on grief, daring to ask us what we would do if someone we loved returned from the dead.
Adapted from John Ajvide Lindqvist’s (Let the Right One In) 2005 novel of the same name (he also co-wrote the screenplay with Hvistendahl), Handling the Undead chronicles the lives of three families as they deal with the sudden return of their recently deceased loved ones. Anna is saved from a suicide attempt when her father Mahler (Bjørn Sundquist...

A grandfather quietly grieves over the fresh, newly dug grave of his preteen grandson. An elderly woman quietly mourns the passage of her life partner. A husband sits at the hospital bedside of the body of his wife. Separated by time and distance, each character, in their turn, faces a heart-shattering, soul-crushing, life-altering change for the worse in Norway’s capital city, Oslo, leaving their lives, individually and collectively, irrevocably devoid of purpose or meaning in Thea Hvistendahl’s deceptively quiet, stunningly brilliant adaptation of John Ajvide Lindqvist’s (Let the Right One In) novel of the same name, Handling the Undead (Håndtering av udød). With influences ranging from George A. Romero’s original Dead trilogy, Stephen King’s Pet Semetary, to the more recent French series, The Returned, and...

As CEO of Canal+ for more than a decade, Rodolphe Belmer pushed the pay TV giant to make original scripted content — a bet that paid off with award-winning shows such “Spiral” and “The Returned.” So what does he have planned at TF1, the French television company he took over last year?
From his office on the top floor of a 14-level skyscraper, with a panoramic view that includes the Eiffel Tower and La Defénse in the distance, Belmer reveals that TF1 hopes to expand its reach into other European countries, while launching an ad-supported streaming service on Jan. 8.
“We want to penetrate all French-speaking markets, including Belgium,” he says. “Let’s not forget that French is the fifth-most-spoken language in the world.”
And Belmer recognizes that TF1 has suffered some setbacks. Its planned merger with M6, the country’s second-biggest private TV network, failed to gain antitrust approval in 2022. TF1 also pulled out of Salto,...

Perhaps no medium understands television’s terrifying potential quite like film. That’s right: countless horror movies have paid homage to the spooky possibilities of their industry’s smaller screen little brother over the years. Movies like Poltergeist, Halloween III: Season of the Witch, and The Ring all recognize that a television set is a potentially powerful totem.
A TV set is a device that families have placed in their living rooms for decades, passively welcoming in all manner of signals, blithely trusting that evil somehow won’t piggyback its way on them. Still, for much of television’s early years, there wasn’t a ton of great horror series to speak of (aside from the truly iconic like The Twilight Zone). That has all changed now.
To celebrate Den of Geek‘s 15th anniversary, we are once again counting down the best pop culture that the past decade and a half had to offer.
