J.J. Abrams is back with the first project he’s co-written in six years. The Star Trek and Star Wars: The Force Awakens director has teamed with fellow writer and executive producer Latoya Morgan for a Max drama series that reunites Abrams with his Lost star Josh Holloway.
Set in 1972, the series follows the first Black female FBI agent (Rachel Hilson) as she heads to the Southwest and recruits a gutsy getaway driver (Holloway) in a bold effort to take down a growing crime syndicate (led by Keith David). But as is often the case with projects that Abrams has worked on, things aren’t quite as straightforward as they might initially seem.
Josh Holloway in Duster.
The result is an upbeat and poppy retro crime thriller that warmly showcases its ’70s esthetic and features Hilson as a playfully tough Fed and Holloway being his cockily charismatic self.

James Patterson's iconic Washington D.C. detective and forensic psychologist is back in a big way with Cross. The upcoming Prime Video show serves as the fourth adaptation of Patterson's character, with Morgan Freeman having played him twice in the psychological thrillers Kiss the Girls and Along Came a Spider, before being surpassed by Tyler Perry in the 2012 franchise reboot, Alex Cross. This time around, the eponymous detective is being played by Aldis Hodge, best known for his work in the Leverage shows, as well as the Invisible Man reboot, Turn: Washington's Spies and Black Adam, among others.
Unlike the prior three films, Cross will be taking an original approach to adapting Patterson's franchise, not adapting any one specific novel, but instead creating a new case with some iconic characters appearing. The show will follow Hodge's Cross and his...

The following contains major spoilers for Silent Witness Series 27, Episodes 3 and 4, "Grievance Culture - Parts 1 and 2," now streaming on BritBox.
After Silent Witness delivered one of its best mysteries, it's disappointing that Series 27, Episodes 3 and 4, "Grievance Culture" amount to one of its worst. Save for a memorable performance from Kevin McNally of Pirates of the Caribbean and the underrated Turn: Washington's Spies, there's little to like about this revenge story that employs plenty of tropes and doesn't seem to know what idea it actually wants to get across. It feels more like an American procedural than British television.
As the title suggests, "Grievance Culture" centers around a controversial college professor who is the subject of protests and at least one student complaint. But Professor Peter Cherry, played by McNally, is also up for a promotion to dean. When his reputation prevents him from getting the job and the members of his interview panel start dying,...

Filming locations for the biopic Harriet were carefully chosen to recreate the 19th-century American East Coast, with Virginia serving as the backdrop for various scenes. Three Lakes Park in Henrico, Virginia, provided the perfect setting for forest scenes in the film, including Tubman guiding enslaved people on the Underground Railroad and scouting for the Union Army. The historical Berkeley Plantation in Charles City, Virginia, was used as the exterior of Senator William Seward's New York home in the film, highlighting its relevance to the story and its involvement in the Civil War.
The 2019 biopic Harriet tells the story of abolitionist Harriet Tubman, and, picking up in 1849 Maryland, filmmakers had to get creative with the project's filming locations. The scenery throughout the film needed to believably look like the 19th-century American East Coast, which meant utilizing modern locations that looked to be pulled straight out of history. Ultimately, this meant...

“The Gilded Age,” Julian Fellowes’ critically lauded follow-up to “Downton Abbey,” has returned for a second season on HBO. Although “The Gilded Age” slightly alters the formula that made “Downton Abbey” so popular, swapping out turn-of-the-century England for a rapidly developing America in the late 1800s, it takes place just a few decades before its predecessor. Does that just reflect Fellowes’ fascination with a particular period? Or should we take it as a sign from a master of the genre that this is the ideal setting for a period piece TV show?

AMC Networks is planning to launch a cheaper, ad-supported tier later this year.
The new tier, which is expected to launch by October, will be pitched at the company’s 2023-2024 upfront, which will include a presentation in New York on Tuesday. Pricing for the tier was not disclosed.
“This is a big moment for AMC Networks and for our advertising partners, because it not only creates a fully-ad supported distribution ecosystem, it also allows advertisers to buy our shows, genres and franchises in a much more comprehensive and impactful way,” AMC Networks chief commercial officer Kim Kelleher said in a statement. “With our new series content, library titles and other targeted streaming platforms that are all bundled into AMC+, partners can move beyond individual shows and even series and choose to ‘own’ whole genres and franchises, and drive messaging to target audiences no matter what they are watching or where.

What a delightful documentary is Turn Every Page – The Adventures Of Robert Caro And Robert Gottlieb. This witty, warm and insightful documentary is like a double biography of two literary giants, legendary author Robert Caro and his long-time editor, the equally legendary Robert Gottlieb.

Aldis Hodge reprises his role as hacker Alec Hardison in Leverage’s revival, Leverage: Redemption, but the Hardison Leverage character left the team early in the season – why? Since Leverage ended and Nate and Sophie retired, Hardison, Parker, and Eliot have been running Leverage International, expanding the team’s mission of fleecing the rich and powerful on a global scale. Sophie then comes out of retirement for Leverage: Redemption after the death of Timothy Hutton's Nate. Parker and Eliot return to the old team with her, but Hardison finds himself indispensable to their international work. After only one con, Hardison resumes traveling around the world, and his foster sister Breanna Casey steps into his shoes as the main hacker on the crew.
As it turns out, the Hardison Leverage character had to be written off the show early on because of the demands of Aldis Hodge’s increasingly busy schedule.

After more than a year and a half of development, eOne recently started shopping its high-profile Dungeons & Dragons live-action TV series. Shepherded by Red Notice filmmaker Rawson Marshall Thurber, it is based on Hasbro’s wildly popular fantasy role-playing game franchise.
The series was conceived as eOne’s priciest, largest-scope TV project ever, a series that would demonstrate the full potential of Hasbro’s 2019 acquisition of the indie film and TV studio. It started garnering bids and all seemed to be going smoothly — until the process was interrupted Thursday by the toymaker’s announcement that it plans to sell eOne’s film and TV businesses.

After Saraya's debut for Aew at the Grand Slam show on September 21, fans wondered if she'd been cleared to wrestle. She finally answered the health question this past week on Wednesday Night Dynamite, when the former WWE champion challenged Britt Baker to a match at the upcoming Full Gear pay-per-view. While audiences now know that Saraya has been cleared for physical contact after almost five years away from the ring, she will not be working matches every other week for Tony Khan's company. At least not at first.
In the most recent edition of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer wrote the following about how Aew will be easing Saraya back into action. "Saraya said she wasn't fully cleared until around Halloween, although she had already gotten into a big brawl weeks ago which wouldn't have been allowed had she not been cleared by Aew medical. Anne Rice's classic gothic romance Interview with the Vampire returned to the small screen to chill and delight, and its premiere caused a huge boost in AMC+'s viewership. Though the original novel set the stage for the spooky romance explosion that was to follow, the new TV series is another in a long line of tantalizing programs.
From long-running TV staples like The Vampire Diaries to horrifying tales like The Haunting o f Bly Manor, plenty of shows mix romance and terror for a perfectly eerie experience. Though paranormal romance is a massive TV sub-genre, only the very best shows capture the same energy as AMC's newest hit.

Prime Video dropped the latest trailer for The Peripheral, the long-gestating sci-fi drama from Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan’s Kilter Films that’s based on the bestselling novel by William Gibson. The cast and producers made an appearance at New York Comic-Con today to hype the series that premieres Oct. 21.
“When I read the book Count Zero [by Gibson], it felt like a first hit of acid. I never experienced anything like the worlds that Gibson created,” Nolan told convention goers Saturday. “I’ve watched every filmmaker rip off all the ideas, myself included, from his works and no one actually had the guts to go and adapt from the source. For us, it felt like coming full circle.”

Rizzoli and Isles haven't solved a new case on TV in nearly six years.
While Tess Gerritsen continues to write new novels on the beloved duo, we've been left with a significant gap in our lives as their lives go on without us bearing witness on-screen.
The iconic duo of Angie Harmon and Sasha Alexander were TV staples for over 100 episodes, but what are they (and the rest of the cast) doing now?
In Memorium: Lee Thompson Young -- Detective Barry Frost
Lee Thompson Young, who played Detective Frost (one of Jane Rizzoli's closest co-workers), tragically passed away in 2013 before the filming of Season Five.
Detective Frost's death got handled beautifully by the writers, from his death in Rizzoli and Isles Season 5 Episode 1 to Jane seeing a vision of him in Rizzoli and Isles Season 5 Episode 18.
The episodes throughout Season Five left us crying, laughing, and missing Lee Thompson Young's presence on our screens.
