Due to trademark issues, Zootopia 2 is named Zootropolis 2 in the UK, Ireland, Italy and Spain, while in Germany it will be called Zoomania 2.

Like Toy Story 4 (2019) and Inside Out 2 (2024), this sequel will release nine years after it's predecessor. This will also be the first Walt Disney Animation Studios film to be released nine years after its predecessor.

This sequel will have Kim Wing-Un the turkey vulture as the main antagonist (voiced by Lisa Ortiz) who wants to take over Zootopia. Following that, the Taming Party scene (as a deleted scene from Zootopia into Zootopia 2) will have crocodiles, chimpanzees, hyenas, falcons, snakes, peacocks, vultures, and frogs instead of polar bears. Still, it will host an ostrich named Maria instead of Koslov. This scene will be used when Judy and Nick are finding Gary when they sneak through the aquarium filled with koi fish leading into a building and see Tammy the spectacled caiman (voiced by Awkwafina) getting her first tame collar.
