Chloë Grace Moretz (Carrie) has found her co-lead in The Edge Of Normal. Today, Deadline reports that the Kick-Ass actress will be joined in the serial killer flick by Rupert Friend. The actor has been pouring himself into the genre as of late, with his recent supporting role in Drew Hancock’s feature-length directorial debut, Companion. The thriller, which is eyeing a production start date sometime this spring, comes from helmer, Carlota Pereda, and will serve as the director’s first English-language flick. For those who haven’t seen it, Pereda’s most recent production, 2022’s Piggy, was a bloody and brutal entry into the genre, so we’re already expecting more of the same from The Edge Of Normal.

Dennis Quaid couldn't be prouder of his son, fellow actor Jack Quaid. The father recently praised Jack for topping the box office last weekend with his new action movieNovocaine.
Speaking with People to promote his new Paramount+ series Happy Face, Quaid confirmed that he had spoken to his son about the movie's success the night before the interview. "I just talked to him last night. His movie's no. 1. I mean, that's incredible, really great," the actor remarked. "He certainly deserves it. He's just getting started. You haven't seen nothing yet when it comes to him."Novocaine opened in theaters last weekend, where it topped the domestic box office with $8.8 million. Unfortunately, Novocaine's No. 1 opening was partially overshadowed by the fact that it was the lowest-grossing weekend so far of 2025 with a total box office haul of $55 million.

Paramount’s action comedy Novocaine saw the brilliant Jack Quaid continue his strong 2025 run, following the late-January release of the widely acclaimed sci-fi thriller, Companion. Having just debuted in theaters across the most recent weekend, Novocaine is already proving hugely popular, not only thanks to a strong opening CinemaScore rating of "B", but also the movie's "certified fresh" 82% from critics on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, which is topped off with an even-better 87% from audiences.

Actor Jack Quaid has experienced commercial success before, with the hit fifth film in the Scream series, and, more recently, with the horror film Companion. He also played a memorable supporting role in Christopher Nolan’s Best Picture-winning biopic Oppenheimer, not to mention the legions of admirers that he has accrued thanks to a lead role in the Prime Video series The Boys. But this week’s Novocaine marks his debut as a studio leading man. The Paramount movie claimed the number one spot at the domestic box office in its debut weekend, while seeing a mixed response internationally.

Novocaine has pulled ahead of Black Bag, and Mickey 17 after going head to head in a dismal weekend for the 2025 box office. Novocaine, which is an action comedy starring Jack Quaid, and Black Bag, which is a Steven Soderberg-directed spy thriller starring Michael Fassbender and Cate Blanchett, are both new wide releases. The Mickey 17 release kicked off the week before. The Bong Joon Ho-directed Robert Pattinson sci-fi movie debuted at No. 1 with a record-breaking $19 million haul that was the Parasite director's best in domestic history but still came nowhere close to its $118 million budget.

Written and directed by former GQ editor and frequent celebrity interviewer Mark Anthony Green, “Opus” is an A24 thriller about, well, the horrors of celebrity culture. A kind of tonal and narrative cousin to 2022’s “The Menu,” the film is a nightmarish satire set at a remote compound owned by a popular, potentially malevolent musician. Featuring a star-studded cast, it joins “Heart Eyes,” “Companion,” “The Gorge” and “The Monkey” on 2025’s growing list of noteworthy high-concept thrillers and horror movies.
Here is how, when and where you can watch “Opus.”

After starring in last month’s AI thriller “Companion,” Jack Quaid is back at the box office this weekend with “Novocaine,” an action comedy where he plays a man who can’t feel pain.
The R-rated film from Paramount has made $1.75 million in previews so far at the box office. It is on track to make $8 million to $10 million in its first weekend, which should put it above last week’s box office champ “Mickey 17.” The Warner Bros. sci-fi movie, from “Parasite” director Bong Joon Ho and starring Robert Pattinson, is expected to drop 55% to 60% in its second weekend to make $8 million to $9 million.
“Novocaine” only cost $18 million to produce, so (like its main character) it shouldn’t be feeling any pain at the box office. On the flip side, “Mickey 17” cost $118 million to produce and needs around $275 million to $300 million worldwide to make a profit.

New casting information has just been revealed for the Prison Break offshoot that's in the works at Hulu. The project has a pilot that's currently being put into development, though the reboot hasn't yet been officially ordered to series.
Per Variety, the new Prison Break pilot has cast Emily Browning (American Gods), Lukas Gage (Dead Boy Detectives), and Drake Rodger (Landman) in major roles. While the show is set in the same universe as the original Prison Break, it was expected that it would follow a new cast of characters, and these additions mark the first names to be attached to the project. It's not yet clear if any original Prison Break actors will be making special appearances, but more casting information is likely to soon be released with actors starting to sign on for the pilot.

The “Prison Break” reboot pilot at Hulu has added three series regulars, Variety has learned.
Emily Browning, Lukas Gage, and Drake Rodger have all been cast in leading roles in the pilot, which was originally announced in December. As previously reported, the pilot is set in the same world as the original “Prison Break” but will tell a new story with new characters. Exact plot details are being kept locked up.
Browning stars as Cassidy Collins, described as “an ex-soldier turned corrections officer takes a job at one of the deadliest prisons in America.” Gage will play Jackson in the pilot, said to be “a politician from a well-to-do background in his first congressional campaign.” And Rodger will play Tommy, “an inmate at one of the deadliest prisons in America, incarcerated ten years ago.”

One of the tightest box office battles for number one in recent memory is set to happen this weekend, with both the new release Novocaine, and WB’s second weekend holdover, Mickey 17 having a solid chance at coming in first place. However, neither are expected to make over $10 million, with this on track to be one of the slowest weekends of the year, as 2025’s box office grows more sluggish by the week.
While a $10 million start would be just fine for the modestly budgeted Novocaine, Mickey 17 badly needs a box office win. However, even if it drops a modest 50% this weekend (which is unlikely), it will still go down as a box office loser for Warner Bros. I’m expecting Novocaine to open with about $10 million, which would be a solid start for the movie, which launches The Boys’s Jack Quaid as a leading-man,...

Jack Quaid addresses the possibility of reprising his role in the highly anticipated Scream 7. With Scream veterans Kevin Williamson and Guy Busick at the helm, the seventh installment of the horror franchise is set for a harrowing return with Neve Campbell's Sidney Prescott once again leading the charge against the enduring murders and mystery of the iconic masked killer Ghostface. Quaid's character, Richie Kirsch, was unveiled as one of the Ghostface killers in the 2022 reboot. Scream 7 is set to arrive in theaters on February 27, 2026.
In a recent interview with Et Online, Quaid responded to questions about his potential involvement in Scream 7. Quaid’s Ghostface reveal in Scream was an interesting twist for the slasher franchise, largely due to his established reputation as an awkward, yet charming actor in roles like The Boys and Star Trek: Lower Decks. His latest role in Companion continues to weaponize his "nice guy" persona.

Netflix is preparing to make another Stephen King adaptation! According to a new Deadline exclusive, the streamer has finalized a deal to adapt King's novel Cujo into a new feature film with Roy Lee set to produce.
Lee is a well-known horror movie producer, having produced hit movies like Barbarian, Strange Darling, Companion, The Ring, and more. He's also producing the upcoming films Weapons and Until Dawn. But most notably, Lee has produced multiple King projects such as Doctor Sleep, Salem's Lot, It, It: Chapter Two, and The Stand. And Netflix has released a few adaptations, too, between Gerald's Game, 1922, and In the Tall Grass, so Lee and Netflix working together makes a lot of sense.
First published in 1981, Cujo is King's novel about a once sweet Saint Bernard who gets bit by a bat and turns rabid. From there, the massive animal goes on a rampage, killing multiple people throughout the book.

Drew Hancock’s global hit Companion is one of those do-or-die slick-flicks which blend genres and bend the rules of mass entertainment. The unexpected is heaped onto the plot with such weird nonchalance as if to say that cinema is not about fulfilling expectations but building them.
This is not an unwatchable film by any stretch of the imagination. Writer-director Drew Hancock sucks us into the vortex of the blind-dating game and then charts out a living hell for his heroine Iris (Sophie Thatcher), who is taken by her new boyfriend Josh (Jack Quaid) to a posh farmhouse in the back of the beyond. Iris should have known better. But if she had, there would be none of the carefully constructed calamitous happenings that swiftly swerve the romance into the horror-thriller genre.

Jack Quaid stars in Novocaine, which is arriving in cinemas this month. Here’s the final trailer for the film.
Jack Quaid has enjoyed a career surge in the last few years, powered by the success of Amazon’s satirical superhero series The Boys. The actor has retooled his performance as Hughie Campbell in the show into a series of fun variations on the ‘ordinary guy with a big heart’ in a number of movies, especially ones like Companion where he subverts that approach to add a more sinister edge to his character.
In Novocaine, though, it looks as though we’re going to see Quaid return to this everyman archetype, this time with a focus on action. Quaid plays Nathan Caine, a chap who, thanks to a rare disorder, can’t feel pain. Hey, that rhymes.

It goes without saying that Stephen King has penned some great horror stories, and people take notice whenever he recommends a genre movie or TV series. From hailing overlooked horror shows like "The Midwich Cuckoos" to explaining why "Night of the Living Dead" is the scariest movie ever made, King isn't shy about expressing his opinions, and many people agree that he has excellent taste. With that in mind, King has now heaped praise on "Companion," the first great movie of 2025, adding to all of the acclaim the horror-comedy has received since its release.

“Companion” is a darkly comedic sci-fi horror thriller that doubles, as TheWrap’s review notes, as a heightened commentary on one-sided relationships. It is also the rare film featuring artificial intelligence that chooses to take the side of its android character, Sophie Thatcher’s robot companion Iris. Movies have been warning audiences of the dangers of AI since, well, practically the dawn of cinema. Now, as AI becomes an increasingly real part of daily lives, cautionary tales about the boundary-pushing technology have only become more common.
“Companion” is not the only film that paints AI in a semipositive light, though. Here are five others that treat their robot characters with a more sympathetic hand.

The debut score for the action movieNovocaine on Rotten Tomatoes has been revealed. It continues a positive trend for Jack Quaid (The Boys), who stars in the lead role.
With its early reviews from critics ahead of its wide release on March 14, Novocaine has been given an approval rating of 92% on Rotten Tomatoes. The strong score is in line with other recent film releases featuring the actor. Earlier this year, Quaid co-starred alongside Sophie Thatcher in the horror thriller Companion, a movie that holds a Certified Fresh score of 94%. Quaid was last seen on the big screen in 2023 with his role in Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer, the Oscar-winning blockbuster that has an approval rating of 93%. That year, he also had a voice role in the animated hit Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, which is Certified Fresh at 95%.
Novocaine was written by Lars Jacobson, while Dan Berk and Robert Olsen directed the film.

The template for a Jack Quaid character is clear: balance him on the precipice between aggressiveness and passivity before splattering him with blood. Between Scream, Companion, The Boys and even his voice work on Star Trek: Lower Decks, Quaid has asserted himself as a sweet, quippy punching bag, a Buster Keaton for white guys who may or may not be an incel in waiting.
Novocaine seems especially crafted with Quaid’s ongoing screen presence in mind. It is nothing if not a continuation of a theme, both for Quaid and for the John Wick-ification of action films. Like Wick, Nathan Caine (Quaid) is an unassuming, socially awkward shut-in who possesses a unique set of dormant skills that get unleashed by unpredictable (and exceptionally violent) external forces. Except, in this instance, our hero’s skills take the form of an exceedingly rare disease and not so much the ability to fight.

Longlegs established its director and writer, Osgood Perkins, as an exciting and influential voice within the horror genre while upending traditional Hollywood marketing models with a guerrilla promotional campaign featuring cipher codes and a creepy hotline. With the box-office success of Longlegs, there was a strong sense of anticipation for Perkins’ latest film, the comedy horror film The Monkey, which was acquired for distribution prior to the theatrical release of Longlegs.
Based on Stephen King’s 1980 short story of the same name, The Monkey stars Theo James as twin brothers whose lives are continually haunted by the enduring presence of a cursed toy monkey, which causes random horrific deaths around the brothers. The film was co-produced by James Wan, Hollywood’s foremost creator of horror franchises based on supernatural objects. If you’re looking for new awards contender movies to watch on streaming or video on demand, your pickings are slim this post-Oscars weekend, but we do have a few suggestions for things to watch. Our list includes a top pick that just became available on subscription streaming, two other new releases on streaming, an older movie that would make for a nice triple feature with the top pick, and a past Oscar nominee recently added to Netflix.
Top pick: Heretic
Hugh Grant’s villain era continues in this twisty A24 horror movie. Sophie Thatcher (a rising scream queen whose movie Companion was one of our picks two weeks ago) and Chloe East play Mormon missionaries who try to carry the word to the wrong man, Mr. Reed. He takes them prisoner and tells them that he has found the one true religion, seemingly offering them the opportunity to escape if they renounce their faith.

After all those years playing the original “Resident Evil” games on your old PlayStation 1 and 2, the “Resident Evil” film franchise is again in the hands of PlayStation.
A reboot of the “Resident Evil” franchise from director Zach Cregger (“Barbarian”) has landed at Sony Pictures and producer PlayStation Productions, bringing the Capcom game back home to its roots and some of the people who know the games best. Sony has even already given the film a release date of September 18, 2026.
Though Sony’s Screen Gems label produced the original “Resident Evil” film franchise as directed by Paul W. S. Anderson, a return to PlayStation wasn’t a guarantee. Warner Bros. and New Line, which released “Barbarian” and is putting out Cregger’s next feature “Weapons” in January 2026, were circling the project, sparking a bidding war for the horror video game IP.

Sony will release Columbia Pictures’ “Resident Evil” domestically on Sept. 18, 2026.
Based on Capcom’s hugely popular horror video games, Zach Cregger has written the script and will direct. Shay Hatten is co-writing.
Constantin Film is producing and co-financing the film. Constantin’s Robert Kulzer, Vertigo Entertainment’s Roy Lee and Miri Yoon and PlayStation Productions are also producing.
Cregger’s credits as a writer-director include “Miss March,” “The Civil War on Drugs” (both alongside Trevor Moore) and, most recently, “Barbarian.” He also produced the 2025 film “Companion” and is next writing, directing and producing the Josh Brolin- and Julia Garner-led horror film “Weapons” for Warner Bros., out January 2026.
“Cregger’s instinct for suspense is so effective, it’s hard to believe that before ‘Barbarian,’ the helmer worked largely in comedy (he was a member of the Whitest Kids U’Know sketch team). Then again, a deliciously twisted sense of humor runs beneath the surface,...

Nearly one quarter of the way through the year (yikes!) and already the horror game is strong. So far, we’ve been lucky enough to see a nice hodge-podge of pics come to life thanks to Leigh Whannell’s latest pairing with Universal, Wolf Man, Drew Hancock’s debut foray into feature-length filmmaking in Companion, Josh Ruben’s rom-com horror, Heart Eyes, and Osgood Perkins’ Longlegs follow-up, The Monkey. With fans flocking to their local cinemas to take in the latest and greatest that the genre has to offer, one movie is topping out at the box office, with Perkins’ Stephen King adaptation currently in the number one spot with a staggering financial earning of $39.1 million.

Details about the plot have not been disclosed, but the film is described as being in the style of Wedding Crashers and There’s Something About Mary.

The company is also behind Friendship, an A24 dark comedy featuring Tim Robinson and Paul Rudd. After Osgood Perkins found extraordinary success with his last outing, Longlegs, expectations were incredibly high for The Monkey. The Theo James and Tatiana Maslany-led horror film has now spent two full weekends in theaters, long enough to help it reach $30 million globally, with $24.6 million coming from domestic earnings and $5.5 million coming from international markets. This $30 million total is enough to move The Monkey past Heart Eyes to become one of the top 10 biggest movies of the year thus far at the worldwide box office. The Monkey also has the potential to climb even further in the rankings, as both Wolf Man and Companion are winding down with $34 million globally, a mark The Monkey could reach before the end of the weekend.

2025 has just begun and so many movies have already made an impact on audiences. With the rise in horror movies like Companion and The Monkey and a new addition to the MCU, Captain America: Brave New World, 2025 has already solidified itself as a fascinating year for movies. Mirroring previous years in writing, direction, and overall cinematic spectacle, 2025 promises a variety of films that will inspire audiences for years to come.
It's usually assumed that films released in the earlier months of the year may not capture as much attention or acclaim as later releases. This has been disproved with 2024 releases Dune: Part Two, released on March 1, and Challengers, released on April 26. As the Winter months dwindle and Spring brings about warm weather and new releases, movie-goers are excited to see this lineup of films appear on the big screen.

So far, 2025 has been quite a year for movie fans, with many notable titles released in the last two months, including Peter Pan's Neverland Nightmare, Companion, Better Man, and Ne Zha 2. While there have been plenty of disappointments as well, such as Ke Huy Quan's Love Hurts and Wolf Man, which failed to meet audience expectations, we are only getting started.
Having said that, March brings an abundance of highly anticipated films that promise to dominate the box office, including Bong Joon Ho and Robert Pattinson's sci-fi thriller and a live-action adaptation of one of Disney's most popular animated films. So, without further ado, here's every movie that will be released in theaters in March 2025.

We're only a couple of months into the year, but 2025 has already been a killer time for horror. The early releases have focused on fresh films like Companion and Heart Eyes, but like last year, the upcoming genre calendar is going to see a great mix of original frights and franchise terrors. The latter of which will include I Know What You Did Last Summer making a blood-soaked comeback. The iconic 90s slasher starred a young Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr.. They're both set to reprise their respective roles for the legacy sequel and now fans have their first look at Hewitt's “Final Girl”, Julie James, with a new behind-the-scenes photo.

In Dan Berk and Robert Olsen's new action comedy Novocaine, Jack Quaid stars mild-mannered introvert Nathan Caine, who must save his girlfriend after she's taken hostage in a bank robbery. It sounds like a simple premise, but when you add in the fact that Quaid has Cip (congenital insensitivity to pain), things get nuts in the new film, which is slated to be released on March 14 by Paramount Pictures.
A new poster for the movie was just released today (seen below), highlighting all the intense punishment Quaid goes through. Not only is he smashed up against a pane of broken glass, but his one hand is bruised and bloody, and the other looks like it has suffered a severe amount of damage, including a bit of flayed skin. In addition to Quaid, Novocaine also stars Amber Midthunder as his girlfriend Shari, as well as appearances by Ray Nicholson, Jacob Batalon,...

“The Monkey” is in theaters now.
“Longlegs” director Osgood Perkins adapts a Stephen King short story, collected for eternity in “Skeleton Crew,” which stars Theo James as twin brothers who have a complicated with a wind-up monkey that causes the unfortunate (and often quite spectacular) death of those around them. But can they break the curse before the monkey dooms us all?
And while “The Monkey” is excellent, continuing a wonderful streak of A+ genre movies this year that has also included “Companion” and “Heart Eyes,” there might be one lingering question. Only this time, it’s not about the ending – it’s about the beginning.
Let’s get into the scene that opens the movie, complete with commentary from Perkins. Spoilers beware, of course, especially if you fear that reading about a movie before you’ve seen it will result in a hilariously unexpected death.
So we aren’t talking about the ending?...

There’s been a lot of horror film in the last month and a half, but Neon’s The Monkey is on its way to posting the best opening for a horror movie Ytd with $12M-$14M this weekend after $1.9M previews. That number for the Oz Perkins directed movie includes advance screenings.
For Neon, which shot to box office heights with Perkins’ pic last summer, Longlegs, with $3M previews and a $22.4M opening, The Monkey‘s previews are the second best for the distributor. The Monkey‘s previews in total are higher than the $1.7M clocked by New Line’s critically acclaimed and audience fave Companion, which settled for a $9.3M opening.
Quorum says this Am that The Monkey climbed to higher awareness than Longlegs before opening on what was a traditional campaign, however, “interest is seven points lower for The Monkey, which points to a mid-teen opening.” The 18-34 bunch showed up at 63% per Comscore/Screen Engine’s PostTrak starting at 7Pm last night when previews began. P&a spend for The Monkey was around $10M, the same as Longlegs. Rt audience score on The Monkey is 73% to a solid critical score of 80% certified fresh.
More excitement for Neon this weekend beyond box office: Their Cannes Film Festival winning movie Anora is also up for Best Feature at the Film Independent Spirit awards tomorrow and Best SAG ensemble on Sunday. Should that Sean Baker movie score those top prizes, it’s just more momentum after DGA and PGA wins toward Oscar’s Best Picture….
Among regular ranked movies, Disney/Marvel Studios’ Captain America: Brave New World led Thursday with an estimated $3.2M, -5% from Wednesday, ending its first week with $113M. The Anthony Mackie movie is expected to lead the box office again in its second frame with a $30M+ take.
Lionsgate has the Kingdom Story movie The Unbreakable Boy which is 43% with critics and a mid-1000 theater break. It’s expected to file in the single digits.

Companion’s ending is a reminder of what freedom truly means in the modern world. It is the season of feminist slasher/horror, or whatever romantic title you want to call it, and Companion is the leading contender. The film tells the story of a sexbot who seeks freedom after killing a man because her owner wanted her to. It is neither a slasher nor a romantic drama; it’s simply a film that reminds us of the true horrors of humankind. How humans are the real monsters of the world and how Mary Shelley was always right. The commentary of the film is simple: everybody is greedy, and when it comes down to it, they’re happy to go to any length to get what they want. In Companion, Iris and Josh are a couple who head off to a cabin in the woods for a special weekend with Josh’s friends,...

Quick LinksJack Quaid Helped Breathe Life Back Into ScreamQuaid’s Newest Horror Movie Brings Him Back to His Scream RoleCompanion & Scream Only Scratch the Surface of Quaid’s Acting Chops
This article contains spoilers for Companion (2025), now playing in theaters.
Jack Quaid, the 32-year-old son of Dennis Quaid and Meg Ryan, has been acting since he landed the role of Marvel in The Hunger Games (2012). He has been around for over ten years now, but most people will probably recognize Jack Quaid as Hughie Campbell, the main character of Prime Video's original series, The Boys (2019-). That said, Jack Quaid has been in quite a few mainstream projects over the last few years, including the 2022 revival of the Scream franchise.
Quaid revisits the horror genre with his newest movie, Companion (2025). Companion, like Scream, puts Jack Quaid in the role of the love interest and seemingly decent boyfriend, but not everything is what it seems.

Dog Man debuted on digital platforms just a few days ago, but that didn’t stop the film from accomplishing something at the box office this week that no other movie was able to do. Dog Man earned $1 million on Tuesday, February 18, at the box office, which was a 10% increase from the previous week. There were more than 20 movies playing in theaters that reported numbers for Tuesday, February 18, and Dog Man was the only one to earn more this week than it did last week. Movies such as Love Hurts dropped a whopping 57%, while other new arrivals like Heart Eyes fell 35%. Other movies to experience steep drop-offs from the previous week were Companion (Jack Quaid) at 61% and Flight Risk (Mark Wahlberg) at 67%.
