The story of the two Veronese lovers from feuding families whose forbidden love ends in tragedy is one of the most famous stories ever told in the history of literature. And while there are several versions of the story, the tragedy Romeo and Juliet by the great William Shakespeare is the most famous one.

One of Shakespeare’s best and most famous works, Romeo and Juliet has been adapted numerous times, both on the stage and on the screen. Some of these versions are well-known works and as you might know, a new version is coming up.

The new adaptation will be a musical and it will draw inspiration from the actual story that inspired Shakespeare’s tragedy. The movie is set to premiere this year and we have some details for you!

Exclusive: Bridesmaids and Pitch Perfect multihyphenate Rebel Wilson has inked with the United Talent Agency for representation.

The news comes in the wake of Wilson making her feature directorial debut, the musical, The Deb, at TIFF which garnered 80% fresh with critics on Rotten Tomatoes. The Deb, which Wilson also produced and provided additional writing, follows two teenage girls who attend a debutante ball in a small country town.

Other big movies from Wilson include Jojo Rabbit, Hustle, and Isn’t It Romantic. With films that have totaled nearly $3 billion at the global box office, Wilson is arguably Australia’s biggest female comedy export.

Wilson starred in the Netflix comedy Senior Year, which was the streamer’s 9th most watched film of 2022, as well as the most watched film among female-led originals. Eighty-nine million Netflix accounts globally streamed the film its first ten days of release, outperforming all male-driven comedies on the platform that year.

Briarcliff has set May 9, 2025 (Mother’s Day weekend) as the release date for this bold reimagining of arguably William Shakespeare's most popular play. Sony is moving StudioCanal’s Paddington in Peru to Valentine’s Day and Presidents Day weekend, Feb. 14. The film was originally set to go over MLK weekend, Jan. 17, 2025.

The news comes in the wake of the Dougal Wilson directed threequel notching the best UK opening for a British production since 2021’s No Time to Die at a 3-day of £9.65M ($12.4M). Voltage Pictures has acquired worldwide rights to the action comedy Under Fire starring Dylan Sprouse and Mason Gooding from Aftermath and will launch worldwide sales at American Film Market (AFM) in Las Vegas next month.

The film follows two undercover agents – DEA agent Abbott (Sprouse) and an FBI agent Griff (Gooding) – posing as rival drug dealers at the Mexico border.

Initially unaware of each other’s identities in what should have been a routine drug deal, the agents are caught in a deadly ambush and must team up in order to survive.

The film — which has now wrapped production — comes from Emblem Pictures, and was written by two-time Oscar nominee Michael Radford (best known for directing 1994 global sensation “Il Postino”) and directed by Emmy winner Annabel Jankel (“Tell It to the Bees”).

Produced by Warren Derosa and Zsófia Kende, “Desperate Journey” is based on the true story of Freddie Knoller (played by Tønnesen), a young man forced to flee Vienna as Nazi hysteria takes hold. Berlin-based M-Appeal has taken on world sales rights to Brazilian director Marcelo Caetano’s Cannes Critics’ Week title Baby.

The film, scripted by Caetano and Gabriel Domingues, follows an 18-year-old boy who is released from a juvenile detention centre and finds himself adrift on the streets of São Paulo.

The Brazil-France-Netherlands co-production is made through Cup Filmes, Caetano’s Desbun Filmes, Plateau Produções, Still Moving, Circe Films and Kaap Holland Film. The cast is led by João Pedro Mariano, Ricardo Teodoro and Ana Flavia Cavalcanti.

M-Appeal also handled the director’s 2017 debut feature Body Electric. Vitrine Filmes will distribute Caetano’s second film in Brazil.

Luhrmann modernizes Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, changing characters and setting but keeping original dialogue. The Try Guys have tried everything from spicy noodles to corsets to labor pain. On August 10, the trio will attempt something a little bit different by performing William Shakespeare‘s Romeo and Juliet — with a twist. Instead of sticking to the script, The Try Guys will let their fans reinterpret The Bard’s iconic tragedy.

The one-night performance of Romeo and Juliet will feature Zach Kornfeld as the titular Montague prince, with Keith Habersberger playing his Capulet counterpart. Eugene Lee Yang will show off his versality by portraying many of the play’s other characters, including Mercutio, Paris, Friar Lawrence, and Juliet’s nurse.
