REFRESHING SURREALIST STORY OF MODERN LOVES... IN THE PAST TENSE
I've seen 2 American short films in such a short time... and both are premieres and wow. I've had to reflect on what I've seen because they are short films... in capital letters.
We have a simple but direct story set in the early 2000s where two boys meet in a different, almost atypical way. At first it seems like a poem from my latam, at times it takes you to a fantastic world where surrealism rules and commands all the action in a pleasant and surprisingly fluid way! I didn't expect this in a film from the USA (its scene is the world standard in many things, sadly not always in a positive way) and wow it surprised me because together with the first short I saw (Flowers - USA 2024) they are little gems of the independent scene in the USA; they are a diamond in the rough.
The similarities with that short are obvious to me, as if in parallel (or intentionally) stories were made with parallels not common in the USA (at least for these times) making it even more interesting to watch, at least for the most demanding viewers.
Direction, production and acting incredibly good!! Despite the fact that this film was made on a very tight budget (its producer/writer confessed that they had to raise money online) they made it pass as a production with more resources... and the photography is beautiful and pleasant, which goes in accordance with the excessive flow of the plot. As if it were the same, on point at every moment.
The title of my review is taken from the song "Cómo Sería" by Ray De La Paz.

Surprising. This was the first impression after its end.
Poetic, no doubts, in same measure.
A boy drawns near a sketboard area. A girl admires his drawings. The rain and , in evening, the occasion for boy to practice on skateboard field with his self made skateboard. Other boy, looking for his MP3 , discovers him practicing. It is the start of their friendship.
Obvious , for one of them, it is more . But difficult to exprim to much. Other meet with girl as kick for trust in himself and as clear perspective about friendship.
The life in small town has its traits, like the great moment - a simple - touching confession of friend.
Well acted, well crafted story moment by moment. And the fresh - honest perspective as precious virtue.

This is a beautiful film, set in Montana with mountains in the background and in the foreground a skating board outlet for the youth who live in a place called Livingston. Apart from the skaters a young man watches and draws, and in his vacation there working at carpentry. He meets with a skater and the air around them becomes quite magical. They become close and are they falling from friendship into love ? How do two young men fall in love in a place in Montana at the turn of the 20th c in which the story is set ? After a night alone in a solitary area freed from the ' others ' they get closer and closer, until one of them half breaks the gentle tension by saying if the other were a girl he would kiss him. Does the kiss happen ? What will this mean for their futures if they want a future together ? As for the filming simplicity itself, and the acting perfect. I loved it and hoped that they too would love each other.
