Timothée Chalamet hasn’t even turned 30, but that isn’t stopping the American Cinematheque from embarking on a week-long retrospective of the Oscar-nominated actor’s red-hot career.
“He’s an extraordinary talent,” says Imani Davis, film programmer at the American Cinematheque in Los Angeles. “I can’t think of many other times where we’ve highlighted the work of someone so young, but he’s already done a lot of amazing work and really established himself.”
Davis says that tickets for the three screenings that Chalamet will appear at in person sold out nine minutes after they went on sale, a record for the organization. “The demand has been incredible,” she reports.
And it’s not just Chalamet who will be popping up at post-screening Q&a’s. Andrew Garfield will moderate a conversation with Chalamet and Luca Guadagnino on Jan. 9 tied to a double feature of the actor and director’s two collaborations,...

On a chilly January day in 1961, a boy with tousled hair and a beloved guitar case arrives in New York. He is surrounded by the city’s vibrant, bustling downtown—cafes, shops, and rough-around-the-edges drinking holes across the Village. He is Bob Dylan, setting foot on one of the world’s most consequential islands,...

Bob Dylan has no qualms about Timothée Chalamet’s portrayal of him in James Mangold’s upcoming A Complete Unknown.
“There’s a movie about me opening soon called A Complete Unknown (what a title!),” Dylan wrote on social media on Wednesday. “Timothee Chalamet is starring in the lead role. Timmy’s a brilliant actor so I’m sure he’s going to be completely believable as me. Or a younger me. Or some other me.”
Mangold’s film is set in the summer of 1961, when a 19-year-old Dylan arrived in New York City from Minnesota with little else than his guitar. The movie is based on the 2015 book Dylan Goes Electric! Newport, Seeger, Dylan, and the Night That Split the Sixties by Elijah Wald, which explores the controversy surrounding Dylan’s switch to electrically amplified instrumentation.

While reflecting on his career, Timothée Chalamet said there were certain doors that were closed to him in the industry based on his looks.
In a new interview with Zane Lowe promoting his Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown for the first time, the Oscar nominee said he related to certain outsider elements the legendary musician contained, as he’s been somewhat typecast for roles.
“I’ve had a life experience, I don’t want to say it’s weird, but I can relate to some of these things he went through,” he explained. “Bob wanted to be a rock & roll star — Buddy Holly, Little Richard, Elvis Presley — that was the sort of, depending on your point of view, the sort of rice crispy pop, rock & roll music that was saturated and marketed to kids in the late ’50s. Equally, I wanted to be a big movie actor.”

Timothée Chalamet once had an agent tell him he needed to gain weight, the actor recalled this week. Though weird at the time, memories of the experience helped Chalamet prepare to play Bob Dylan in James Mangold’s upcoming A Complete Unknown.
“If I auditioned for The Maze Runner or Divergent, things of that variety that were popping when I was coming up, the feedback was always, ‘Oh, you don’t have the right body,” Chalamet told Zane Lowe in an interview released Tuesday. “I had an agent that called me and said, ‘You got to put on weight,’ basically, not aggressively, but you know.”
Though he may not have become the face of any dystopian teen dramas that peppered the 2010s, Chalamet’s career turned out to be just fine. Now, as he prepares for the release of A Complete Unknown next month, the actor says his experience felt...

Timothée Chalamet is by far one of the most promising young actors working in Hollywood today, after his standout performances in films like Call Me By Your Name, Little Women, and Dune. The actor has become one of the biggest stars in the film industry and after his recent performance as Duke Paul Atreides in Dune: Part Two, he is sure to become a household name worldwide. So, if you love Chalamet’s performances here are the best movies Chalamet has appeared in and just to warn you, we didn’t include Interstellar in this list because Chalamet’s role in Christopher Nolan was not that big or significant.

Dune 2 Star Timothee Chalamet Movies Ranked As Per Rotten Tomatoes. (Photo Credit – IMDb)
Timothee Chalamet is being lauded for his fantastic performance in Denis Villeneuve’s epic saga Dune 2. The film was released in the theatres on Friday, and it’s a visual treat for moviegoers. The film is one of the top-rated ones across various platforms, but Chalamet, over his short career span, has given several high-rated films.
Chalamet won hearts with his lively performance as Willy Wonka in last year’s Wonka. It became his career’s highest-grossing film as a leading man. But it seems Dune 2 might take away that title soon. He is essaying the character of Paul Atreides, and his ascension in this part has been remarkably shown. Scroll below for more.
Timothee Chalamet’s character Paul seemed a bit lost in the first film but understood his purpose and became a leader in Dune 2.

“The Undoing” and “The Underground Railroad” regular Lily Rabe has been cast opposite “Fargo” and “Black Mirror” star Jesse Plemons in the HBO Max original limited series “Love and Death.” The show follows two church-going couples, enjoying small-town family life in Texas (at least they do until somebody picks up an axe). The series is based on the true story of Texas housewife Candy Montgomery, who murdered her friend from church, Betty Gore, with an axe in 1980.
Rabe will play Betty Gore, wife to Allan Gore (Plemons). Her murderer will be portrayed by Elizabeth Olsen. Patrick Fugit has been cast as Candy’s husband, Pat Montgomery. The series, produced by Lionsgate, is inspired by the book “Evidence of Love: A True Story of Passion and Death in the Suburbs” and a collection of articles from Texas Monthly.

Over the course of four films, Julia Hart and Jordan Horowitz have carved out a unique niche: bending both genre and expectations to craft stories that break the mold of what a “female-centric” story can (and should) look like. From superheroes to high school students, the women that populate the couple’s films — which Hart directs from scripts the couple write together — find drama and emotion in unexpected, and often otherwise untapped places. All of that is by design.
“With all of our movies, it’s something that we think about a lot, making female characters feel like real women, as opposed to a female character that fits into a formula that everybody is comfortable with,” Hart said in a recent interview with IndieWire.
While other films and filmmakers might be hung up on building stories around easily digestible and readily recognizable formulas, Hart and Horowitz relish the chance to...

Whatever the future holds both for theatrical distribution and for at-home streaming, 2020 will no doubt mark the pivot point in which the destinies of both would forever change. But where and how one sees films will inevitably be less important than the films themselves, and even in this year of turmoil, there was always something to recommend, wherever it was available to be seen.

Rachel Brosnahan stars as a young wife and mother who has almost no idea where she’s going next in Amazon’s “I’m Your Woman,” and director Julia Hart excitingly puts the audience in a similarly unpredictable position. "I just thought you should be prepared for what comes next." Amazon Prime Video has released an official trailer for a 1970s crime thriller titled I'm Your Woman, the latest from acclaimed filmmaker Julia Hart. In this 70s crime film, a woman is forced to go on the run after her husband betrays his partners, sending her and her baby on a dangerous journey. The film draws on signature '70s crime dramas to offer a compelling portrait of the women who are often left at home in those stories. "The primary inspiration for wanting to set in the '70s was to reclaim a bit of that period and that genre for a female protagonist," Hart tells EW. Rachel Brosnahan stars with Marsha Stephanie Blake, Arinzé Kene, James McMenamin, Marceline Hugot, Frankie Faison, & Bill Heck. It's premiering at AFI Fest this month before debuting on Amazon in December. This...

After three Emmy-winning seasons of “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” Amazon has figured out nobody can work a period costume like Rachel Brosnahan. While “Mrs. Maisel” made Brosnahan a household face, she has yet to break out on the film side in the same way. Who were you before the world beat you down? That so-called inner child that therapists and astrologers are always on about, how have you let them down? We’ve all let the pressures of popularity, society, and conformity mold and shape us into more palatable versions of ourselves. After all, that’s what becoming an adult is. At least, that’s what the perils of high school socialization led us to believe. How might your life have been different if someone who was so utterly and wholly themselves swooped in to remind you of your precious inner magic?
That’s the question at the heart of “Stargirl,” a tender and offbeat coming-of-age indie premiering this week on Disney+. The film is based on the 2000 novel by Jerry Spinelli, a unique young adult novelist who specializes in crafting grounded, reality-adjacent universes with a comedic flare and just a hint of otherworldliness.

Since its late 2019 launch, fledgling streaming service Disney+ has only released a handful of original films, from projects initially bound for theatrical releases (like the Willem Dafoe-starring dogsledding adventure “Togo”) to those expressly made for the service (like the live-action remake of “Lady and the Tramp”). When filmmaker Julia Hart and her husband and co-writer Jordan Horowitz signed on to make “Stargirl,” the streaming service was still almost two years away from its public debut.
It was something of a leap of faith for the “Fast Color” and “Miss Stevens” team. They had no idea what Disney+ was going to look like, but they knew it would be big (Disney big!) and that it offered them a chance to scale up their production in a way that independent filmmaking might not be able to provide.

Quentin Tarantino’s “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” did more than just conquer the box office this weekend with the director’s biggest unadjusted opening to date ($40 million domestically). On the heels of critical praise, “Hollywood” went on to dazzle the industry over its opening weekend as it earned high praise from directors like Oscar winner Guillermo del Toro. Other industry giants like Mindy Kaling took to social media to share rave reactions to “Hollywood,” which stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt as an actor and his stuntman struggling to keep up with the changing industry in 1969.
“To me, watching ‘Once Upon A Time In Hollywood’ at the New Beverly, was a beautiful experience,” del Toro wrote. “Beautifully crafted and poignant. Chokefull of yearning. A tale of a time that probably never was, but still feels like a memory. I am eagerly seeing it again next week…I miss hanging out with the characters.

“Riverdale” star Lili Reinhart has come on board Amazon Studios’ coming-of-age drama-romance “Chemical Hearts.”
Based on the novel “Our Chemical Hearts” by Krystal Sutherland, the film is currently shooting in New Jersey as an Amazon Original produced for Amazon Prime Video.
Richard Tanne is directing from his own script. Producers are Page Fifty-Four’s Alex Saks and Tanne, and the film is executive produced by Jamin O’Brien (Eighth Grade) and Reinhart, in her first executive producer role.
Reinhart will portray a high school transfer student who meets the editor of the school newspaper on the first day of the school year. The 17-year-old editor, who has never been in love, knows that everything is about to change.
“We are thrilled to work with this talented team to bring to life a beautiful story of first love and heartbreak,” said Julie Rapaport, co-head of movies at Amazon Studios. “Krystal Sutherland...

Exclusive: Rachel Brosnahan, the award-winning star of Amazon’s hit series, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, is reteaming with the studio on I’m Your Woman, a feature that she will star in and produce with Oscar-nominated La La Land and The Kids Are All Right producer Jordan Horowitz.
Horowitz wrote the script with his wife Julia Hart, who will direct the piece. Together, they founded the production company Original Headquarters.
The story revolves around the story of a woman named Jean (Brosnahan) who must go on the run with her child due to her husband’s crimes. Their lives become intertwined with a man and a woman, forming an unlikely partnership that teaches them more than just how to survive. Production is slated to begin this fall.
Brosnahan has received much praise for her performance as housewife-turned comedian Midge Maisel, which has earned her an Emmy and back-to-back Golden Globes awards.

“Fast Color” is a movie told in visual clues and whispers. A mysterious voiceover that sets the stage for this dystopian near future, followed by an unexplained flashback here, another seemingly random image there. When all the puzzle-like pieces come together, the movie’s characters, story, score and emotions soar. The pace of that progress may feel slow, but things never get too quiet. It’s a movie with a racing pulse, and you can feel its heart in every frame.
Ruth (Gugu Mbatha-Raw) is a woman on the run from a shadowy group hunting her for her extraordinary powers. As the pieces of Ruth’s life begin fit into place, the stakes become higher and more emotionally involving for the audience. I hesitate to say much more, because part of this movie’s appeal is watching the unexplained flashes of Ruth’s past make sense.

Considering how packed the fall slate can be, distributors often hold their stranger, bolder films for a spring release when they have the opportunity to better thrive. That’s certainly the case this April, when some of the most daring releases will hit theaters, along with some promising studio fare, must-see documentaries, and more.
Matinees to See: The Wind (4/5), Suburban Birds (4/5), Pet Sematary (4/5), Sauvage/Wild (4/10), Dogman (4/12), Teen Spirit (4/12), Girls of the Sun (4/12), Wild Nights with Emily (4/12), Rafiki (4/19), Little Woods (4/19), Carmine Street Guitars (4/24), Jt LeRoy (4/26), and The White Crow (4/26)
15. Mary Magadalene (Garth Davis; April 12)
Chalk this one up to mere curiosity more than anything else. The downfall of The Weinstein Company meant that a number of films were left by the wayside, waiting to be picked up by other distributors. One that has taken awhile is Mary Magdalene, a Biblical drama from Garth Davis (Lion). After getting an Easter-timed released elsewhere last year,...

As superhero films dominate the Hollywood tentpole marketplace, smaller productions are finding more interesting ways to expand the storytelling boundaries of such tales. This year, Julia Hart follows up her excellent drama Miss Stevens (which was a break-out role for Timothée Chalamet) with her own take on superheroes in Fast Color. Starring Gugu Mbatha-Raw as a woman with special abilities that must go on the run, the film premiered at SXSW last year and now the first trailer has debuted ahead of a March release.
“My husband and I came up with the idea for the movie when we became parents,” Hart tells EW. “I just felt this superhuman strength that I had never felt before when I became a mother. So, the idea for the movie came from this notion that mothers are superheroes. I realized that I’d never seen a movie where there was actually a superhero who was a mother.

Gugu Mbatha-Raw has delivered strong performances in “Beyond the Lights,” “Belle,” and the Emmy-winning “Black Mirror” episode “San Junipero,” but the actress takes her talents to the next level in the upcoming “Fast Color.” The drama marks the latest directorial effort from Julia Hart, best known for her breakout 2016 debut “Miss Stevens,” starring Lily Rabe and Timothée Chalamet. For this go-around, writer-director Hart has filtered the superhero genre through a grounded, low budget independent film lens.
“Fast Color” stars Mbatha-Raw as a woman who comes into her own after discovering she has superhuman abilities. When her powers are discovered, the woman is forced to abandon her family in order to protect them. Years later, her mission to remain unseen brings her back home. Starring opposite Mbatha-Raw is an ensemble featuring Lorraine Toussaint, Saniyya Sidney, Christopher Denham, and Emmy winner David Strathairn.

Directors and film journalists are reacting in fury to the film nominations for the 2019 Directors Guild of America Awards. The DGA announced nominees earlier today for Feature Film and First-Time Feature Film, and all 10 contenders are men. Nominees for Feature Film are Bradley Cooper (“A Star Is Born”), Alfonso Cuarón (“Roma”), Peter Farrelly (“Green Book”), Spike Lee (“BlacKkKlansman”), and Adam McKay (“Vice”). The nominated directors for First-Time Feature Film are Cooper, Bo Burnham (“Eighth Grade”), Carlos Lopez Estrada (“Blindspotting”), Matthew Heineman (“A Private War”), and Boots Riley (“Sorry to Bother You”).
Filmmaker Lenny Abrahamson, who was snubbed by the DGA in 2016 but landed a Best Director Oscar nomination anyway for his drama “Room,” reacted to the nominations by telling his social media followers he was upset with the lack of recognition for two of the year’s most acclaimed women directors: Lynne Ramsay, who earned critical acclaim for “You Were Never Really Here,...

It turns out that the new Perfectionists spin off has hired two, new males to play recurring roles. They've also brought on another female who's character is totally drenched in mystery at the moment. First, let's just dive right into the two male characters they're bringing on. The first male character is named Mason. He will be played by actor Noah-Gray Cabey. You guys can view photos of Noah-Gray Gabey on his official IMDb page by Clicking Here. According to the folks over on Deadline.com, Mason is described as being a "smart and athletic fellow student at Beacon Heights University. When father and son David Sheff and Nic Sheff wrote dueling books from their individual experience dealing with Nic’s severe crystal meth addiction over the course of several years, it didn’t appear the two memoirs could one day be merged into a single motion picture. But indeed it has with the moving, and often intense Beautiful Boy, which had a successful launch at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival and now goes out into theaters through Amazon Studios.
As I say in my video review (click the link above to watch), the structure created by screenwriters Luke Davies (Lion) and Felix Van Groeningen, who also directs, is challenging to say the least but still manages to be an effective family story revolving around a son sinking into the abyss of drug addiction and a father desperately at wits’ end trying to save him. Every week, IndieWire asks a select handful of film critics two questions and publishes the results on Monday.
This week’s question: Who is the best American actor / actress under 30, and why?
Lindsey Romain (@lindseyromain), Freelance for /Film, Vulture and Thrillist
I’ve never felt so fully attuned to a young actor than I have to Timmy Chalamet, who – even before breakthroughs in “Lady Bird” and “Call Me By Your Name” – was impressive as hell in smaller projects like “Homeland” and “Miss Stevens.” I knew right away that he was insanely and specifically talented, could recognize that raw talent, and can’t wait to see it flourish beyond his current constraints.
Kristen Lopez (@Journeys_Film), Freelance for Culturess, The Young Folks
In this landscape of increased diversity and a desire to elevate different voices I wanted to find an actor or actress who wasn’t the go-to person for this type of question.

Exclusive: Grace VanderWaal, who at 12 years old won American’s Got Talent two years ago playing the ukulele and singing her original songs, has beat out 700 other girls to take the lead in Disney’s Stargirl — one of the first original films that will go through the company’s new streaming platform. VanderWaal, who is supporting her new single “Clearly” by opening for the band Imagine Dragons’s Evolve tour today, once again stole the director and producer’s hearts.
VanderWaal is making her acting debut with this film which is being directed by Julia Hart who just finished polishing the script with her partner Jordan Horowitz from the screen adaptation by Kristin Hahn.
“I knew she was Stargirl almost immediately,” said Hart. “The world knows what a talented performer she is, and I cannot wait for everyone to see just how many sides there are to this special and magical young woman.

Set in a dry, dystopian future where a half gallon of clean water goes for $12, Julia Hart’s Fast Color is a superhero origin story about a unique family on the run that has come to back to the safest place: home. Gugu Mbatha-Raw stars as Ruth, a former drug addict who now makes ends meet doing dishes at various places in exchange for a meal. She left behind mother Bo (Lorraine Toussaint) and daughter Lila (Saniyya Sidney), outrunning a scientist named Bill (Christopher Denham), who hopes to study Ruth in a government lab.
Despite terrific technical aspects including lush dusty cinematography by Michael Fimognari and an empowering story that puts a woman of color at the center of a superhero film (something Hollywood is shamefully just starting to do on a larger scale), Fast Color never quite finds its narrative footing. The catchy spin on “Fast Color” is that it’s another black superhero movie, and a woman is the hero. Entering circulation just days after “Black Panther” crossed $1 billion at the box office. However, “Fast Color” is something far stranger and subtler than the McU, providing an allegorical story about generations of black women who are forced to suppress their strengths, and the mounting courage they find in finally taking charge.

Girl Talk is a weekly look at women in film — past, present, and future.
While Hollywood continues to struggle towards parity in the director’s chair, the film festival world is playing major catch-up. At this year’s SXSW Film Festival, the push towards parity is becoming more of a reality than ever before, as 33% of all feature films at the fest are directed by women, while the shorts section boasts 59% female directorship across its slate. It’s a stark difference to the studio side of the industry.
The USC Annenberg Inclusion Initiative’s latest study, “Inclusion in the Director’s Chair? When “Call Me by Your Name” screened at the New York Film Festival last month, several threads from Timothée Chalamet’s 21-year-old life wove together. Above the sold-out, 1,100-seat audience at Alice Tully Hall, he watched the second half from the balcony, seated next to the actor who plays his lover, Armie Hammer, and their director, Luca Guadagnino. Onscreen, Chalamet’s character was 17, the same age he was when Guadagnino met him. At that time, Chalamet was a student at Fiorello H. Laguardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts — the Upper West Side inspiration for “Fame” — across the street.

Reinhart was spotted wearing Sprouse’s maroon blazer at Entertainment Weekly‘s Comic-Con Bash in San Diego Saturday night, and the two were later seen canoodling, holding hands and kissing.
This news will likely be music to fans’ ears since the “Bughead” romance was a surprise crowd-pleaser on the CW show’s first season.
The two have yet to go public with their relationship status, but the coupling probably comes as no surprise to the eagle-eyed fans of the two stars who started speculating about a real-life romance back in May when Sprouse shared a photo of Reinhart on his Instagram.
