There aren't too many horror TV shows these days that have managed to last beyond a single season. Peacock recently canceled Hysteria! and Teacup, and while franchises like The Walking Dead are still going strong, there isn't much else out there for fans to sink their teeth into save for The Creep Tapes on Shudder, and From on MGM+. The former is still in its infancy, but the latter has – thankfully – managed to become a bona fide hit that highlights that, when done right, horror can be just as successful on the small screen as it is on the big one. Now, nearly four months after the conclusion of From Season 3, we finally have an idea of when Season 4 might premiere.

Stephen King is an incredibly prolific modern author, best known for his works in the horror genre. King's novels and novellas have landed on the New York Times Best Seller list multiple times, and several have been adapted into critically acclaimed films. He is renowned for his ability to craft a chilling atmosphere and infuse his scares with a compelling sense of mystery and intrigue.
Luckily, even after they've exhausted his filmography, King's fans have plenty of options for entertainment. A consistent part of the media landscape for decades, he's been an inspiration for horror auteurs. And with the rise of horror television, King's influence can be seen across the TV landscape.

If The Bad Place ever existed on Earth, it would look a hell of a lot like Gilead, in our estimation. So it makes sense that The Good Place star D'Arcy Carden has joined the fold for the sixth and final season of The Handmaid's Tale. Though production on the show has already wrapped, Hulu is only just now dropping these fascinating casting tidbits in preparation for the series' return to our screens on April 8, 2025.
The Hollywood Reporter revealed D'Arcy Carden's casting in The Handmaid's Tale Season 6. She's not the only new, familiar-to-us face to hop aboard the series in its final outing: late last year it was announced that Veep creep and fellow comedy stalwart Timothy Simons had also joined the cast in a guest-starring capacity. As it currently stands, we have no further details on either actors' characters, but regardless of which side of the revolution they're on,...

Did anybody think that The Handmaid's Tale would be even more prescient heading into its final season? Surely not, but here we are! The sixth season of the Hulu series based on Margaret Atwood's novel has never strayed from striking a chord since its debut in 2017 — but with the way things are going in the ol' United States of America, the fight for a revolution in Gilead feels eerily too close to home and the future many people seem to want for this country. So, naturally, we're looking forward to seeing how June (Elisabeth Moss) burns it all down in the end.
Maybe it'll give us all a few pointers as we fall deeper into the dystopian fascist hellscape that the more extreme conservatives among us want. That is assuming we can make it to April 8 when the sixth and final season premieres. In the meantime, the series also gave us a chilling,...

If you're a fan of post-apocalyptic horror fiction, then you know there are two essential novels that everyone must read: Stephen King's The Stand, and Robert McCammon's Swan Song. The former has been adapted for TV a couple of times now, while the fan base of the latter has been clamoring for one for decades. Well, dreams do come true because Swan Song is finally getting the television adaptation we’ve all been waiting for, and it just found its showrunner.
Per Variety, Russell Rothberg will write, executive produce, and serve as showrunner for Swan Song, which is now being taken out to market to hopefully find a distributor. Rothberg's past credits include the highly successful A&e series Bates Motel, Apple TV's Foundation, and most recently the Peacock limited series Long Bright River. The best part of all? A year has gone by since it was announced that special effects legend Greg Nicotero, who is the creative supervisor on the Shudder series inspired by the George A. A series adaptation of Robert McCammon’s bestselling post-apocalyptic novel, Swan Song, is in the works, and Variety reports this morning that it’s found its showrunner in “Foundation” producer Russell Rothberg.
Rothberg will serve as writer, executive producer, and showrunner. The Swan Song showrunner is no stranger to genre TV, either, having previously developed the Psycho-inspired series “Bates Motel” for A&e.
In Swan Song, “following the U.S. government’s nuclear showdown with an unprecedented malevolent enemy, America as it was is gone forever. Now, the remaining citizens must fight to stay alive in a wasteland born of rage and fear, populated by monstrous creatures and marauding armies.”

It's a sad day for fans of the Peacock series Hysteria!, led by stars like Julie Bowen, Anna Camp, and, of course, Ash himself, Bruce Campbell. Variety exclusively reports that Peacock has canceled the show after its one and (now only) season.
Hysteria! was an exciting thrill ride of a series, perfect for a Halloween binge-watch, but thankfully, the ending is mostly conclusive, though it did leave seeds for a potential follow-up season if it were to get renewed. The odds of the show being picked up or saved by another platform also seem unlikely, as Hysteria! didn't gain much traction at Peacock. Similarly, Peacock also canceled its other new 2024 horror series Teacup, so this latest cancellation news doesn't come as much of a shock.
As noted by Variety, it's hard to indicate what the viewership numbers were for shows like Teacup and Hysteria! because the streamer doesn't release that...

A couple of weeks ago, the Peacock streaming service announced that they had cancelled the James Wan-produced series Teacup after just one season. Now, another one bites the dust. Variety reports that Peacock has also decided to cancel the coming-of-age Satanic Panic thriller series Hysteria! after just one season.
Written and executive produced by Matthew Scott Kane, Hysteria! explored America’s dark history of mass hysteria through the shocking story of the teenage Satanic Panic. The series follows a group of 1980s high school misfits as they exploit the growing hysteria around teen occult activity. Here’s the full official synopsis: When a beloved varsity quarterback disappears during the “Satanic Panic” of the late 1980s, a struggling high school heavy metal band of outcasts realize they can capitalize on the town’s sudden interest in the occult by building a reputation as a Satanic metal band, until a bizarre series of murders,...

We feared this day would come, and now it’s finally here. A new horror series that premiered last year has been axed, and it didn't deserve to meet such an untimely end. It had such potential, and it sucks that we won’t get to see where the story could have gone. Sadly, Peacock has pulled the plug on the horror comedy Hysteria! after only one season, and now fans are left to mourn what could have been.
This disappointing news comes only a month after it was revealed that Peacock had canceled another one of its new horror shows from last year. It was the sci-fi horror Teacup. The streaming giant has never come out and shared why it decided to cancel this series, but low viewership is believed to have played a significant role in the decision. Peacock continues its cancellation streak with its coming-of-age Satanic Panic thriller series “Hysteria!” after one season, Variety reports. The news arrives just weeks after the streamer canceled sci-fi horror series “Teacup“.
The series premiered in October 2024, and all eight episodes are now available to stream.
Written and executive produced by Matthew Scott Kane (Stitchers) and David Goodman (The Orville), “Hysteria!” highlights America’s dark history of mass hysteria through ’80s Satanic Panic. It’s framed through a teen coming-of-age story centered around a trio of high school misfits caught up in a wave of dangerous hysteria.

Peacock is not proceeding with a second season of thriller drama Hysteria!, Deadline has confirmed. The news comes 3½ months after the eight-episode first season was released as a binge drop on October 18.

Natalie Zea and Eoin Macken’s sci-fi series on NBC, La Brea, ended after a three-season run in 2024. The series begins when a massive sinkhole opens at the La Brea Tar Pits in LA and pulls people, vehicles, and buildings into a time portal. The main characters end up in a location in 10,000 BC. The survivors’ search for a way back forms the plot of the three seasons.
There was no way the network could’ve pushed for more seasons, albeit a fourth season, after the challenges faced during the production of Season 3. The third season was much shorter than the first two seasons, with just six episodes as opposed to the 10 and 14 episodes of Seasons 1 and 2.

I’m not exactly sure which show started the trend of trapping a bunch of eclectic characters in a limited but seemingly boundless space and watching them tear themselves apart for a variety of reasons, but Lost was definitely the most popular of this subgenre. Yes, folks don’t like to talk about it anymore after that controversial ending, but there’s no denying that it was a good series. Now, of course, when something reached that level of hype, producers and artists tried to emulate it. Hence, we got projects like Under the Dome, The Mist, Wayward Pines, Teacup, and From. Moving into post-apocalyptic territory, there were El Barco, Snowpiercer, Silo, Fallout, and the list goes on. Now, given how Silo has recently concluded, that too on a cliffhanger, people are probably eager to see more just like it until the next season arrives. And for them I have the perfect recommendation: Paradise.

With James Wan as the producer and approval from Stephen King, Teacup couldn’t have gotten a much bigger hype in the horror genre. Peacock’s sci-fi horror series is loosely based on Robert McCammon’s novel Stinger. Sadly, the series got the axe from Peacock after its critically acclaimed first season.
The series also boasted a talented star cast, featuring Yvonne Strahovski, Scott Speedman, Kathy Baker, Rob Morgan, and Boris McGiver. A group of people in an isolated ranch in rural Georgia are stuck together as they face a threat that they can’t see.

Created by Ian McCulloch, the series began streaming on the NBCUniversal-backed platform in October 2024. While it wasn’t as popular as other shows of the year, it received love from fans who got around to seeing it in the first place. The series ended its first season on a cliffhanger.

In the entertainment industry, several projects are tossed before they can make it to the development stage. Out of those that do end up being made, only a fraction of them end up surviving and getting more than a few seasons. However, the majority of these are canceled before they can take flight, ending the saga with just a single season, and leaving fans on a cliffhanger for the rest of their lives. This is what happened with Peacock’s latest TV series, Teacup.

Peacock wasn’t convinced enough to continue with another season of its horror series Teacup. Almost three months after the finale dropped, the streamer announced the cancellation after the show's first season, per TVLine. So, there won't be a season 2.
Why was cancelling Teacup the right decision?
Peacock did not officially release the show’s viewership details. But one thing is for sure, Teacup did not get the significant audience numbers that it should have. It did not even make it into the Nielsen Top 10 streaming charts. And so, because it wasn't able to make an impact on the streaming charts, Teacup easily made it to cancellation after one season.
The series gained a 77 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes and a rating of 6.4 on IMDb. Some Rt critics even gave strong flatteries for the show, saying it pulled them in with its first two episodes. However even though the show's first-episode was a banger,...

The James Wan-produced series Teacup, which is an adaptation of the 1988 bestseller Stinger, written by Robert R. McCammon (pick up a copy Here), had its premiere on the Peacock streaming service back in October – and while JoBlo’s own Alex Maidy thought it was a good show (you can read his 7/10 review at This Link), it apparently didn’t connect with as many viewers as Peacock was hoping it would. Peacock has chosen not to continue its horror-thriller series Teacup for a second season, ending the adaptation of Robert McCammon’s book Stinger. The series started in October 2024 and had a famous cast, including Yvonne Strahovski and Scott Speedman.
Set in rural Georgia, Teacup is about strangers coming together because of an unknown danger. The show got a 70% approval rate on Rotten Tomatoes and mostly good reviews, but it didn’t do well on Nielsen’s streaming charts. Peacock usually keeps its viewing numbers secret and does not share specific details.
The series had a talented artistic team. Ian McCulloch was the writer and executive director, and E.L. Katz, who directed The Haunting of Bly Manor and Channel Zero, directed the first two episodes. Kevin Tancharoen directed the final episode. Wan, Michael Clear, and Rob Hackett served as executive producers. The show was produced by James Wan’s Atomic Monster production company.

Despite gaining a lot of positive reviews and a growing dedicated fanbase, the viewing figures were apparently not up to scratch for Peacock – which was possibly telling considering the show never graced the Top 10 of the streaming charts.
The series, based on the novel Stinger by Robert McCammon, was developed for Peacock by showrunner McCulloch and Wan’s Atomic Monster production company. The synopsis of the show reads, “A disparate group of people in rural Georgia must come together in the face of a mysterious threat in order to survive.” With a cast including The Handmaid’s Tale star Yvonne Strahov and Grey’s Anatomy’s Scott Speedman, the show...

No more Teacup for us. According to a Variety exclusive, Peacock has canceled the horror series after just one season.
Premiering in October 2024, Teacup was one of two new horror shows released by the streaming service alongside Hysteria!. No word yet on the future of Hysteria!, but we now know that Teacup will end with its eight-episode run.
Inspired by the novel Stinger written by Robert McCammon, Teacup follows a group of people trapped on a rural farm in Georgia. By the end of the first episode, a mysterious man wearing a gas mask shows up and paints a line around the farm, one that acts as a boundary trapping everyone inside. We quickly learn why. Any living being that crosses the line trying to escape disintegrates into a bloody mess. And that's just the beginning of the threats these characters must face.

It's going to be one and done for the horror series Teacup on Peacock. While the reviews were respectable, with horror legend Stephen King even offering his endorsement, the show is not going to get a chance to continue.
Per Variety, Teacup has been officially canceled by Peacock after just one season. The news follows the series dropping on the streaming platform in October 2024, culminating with the debut of its finale on Halloween. Its fate has since been unclear, but unfortunately for fans, it's ultimately turned out to be bad news. Among those feeling the disappointment is likely Stephen King, who publicly encouraged others to check out the series after he was impressed by what he saw.

Yet another well-received 2024 show has found itself on the chopping block, and this time it's one that was well-received by Stephen King. The past few years have seen the acclaimed horror author turn his creative endeavors to also sharing his reviews on a variety of films and TV shows, with everything from Apple TV+'s Constellation to The Midwitch Cuckoos getting his approval. The horror genre, in particular, has seen plenty of reviews from King, including Blumhouse's Night Swim and Strange Darling.
Though his voice has helped certain shows find success, many 2024 TV releases have still found themselves cancelled after just one season. Many of them also, unfortunately, left audiences on cliffhanger endings, including the Child's Play sequel show Chucky, the Apple TV+ sci-fi show Sunny and the Star Wars spinoff The Acolyte, while others that left off on mostly closed notes still came to a close, including American Born Chinese.

Despite being praised by critics as one of the best horror series of 2024, Peacock has canceled “Teacup” after one season, Variety reports this afternoon.
The series debuted in October 2024 and was executive produced by James Wan and inspired by Robert McCammon’s Stinger.
It followed a disparate group of people on a ranch who must come together in the face of a mysterious threat in order to survive. As the showrunner previously revealed, it was only loosely based on the novel that inspired it, instead opting for a more cerebral, paranoid take on the material.
Scott Speedman (The Strangers), Yvonne Strahovski (“The Handmaid’s Tale”), and Chaske Spencer (“Jessica Jones”, The Twilight Saga), Kathy Baker, Boris McGiver, Caleb Dolden, Emilie Bierre, Luciano Leroux star in “Teacup.”

The Chenoweth family may have defeated Assassin, but they couldn't survive the threat of cancellation. Peacock's horror series Teacup is ending after only one season on the streaming platform, per Variety. Created by Ian McCulloch as an adaptation of the Robert McCammon novel Stinger, it debuted last year in October as the latest horror project from horror maestro James Wan and his Atomic Monster production company. Despite solid reviews from critics and the big names attached to help make the spooky rural Georgia story something special, it apparently failed to capture an audience, unable to break into the Nielsen Top 10 streaming charts.

Peacock has delivered a mind-bending terror in the form of Teacup, but will the series ever be renewed for season 2? Very loosely based on the classic horror novel Stinger by Robert R. McCammon, the series concerns a family living in rural Georgia who find themselves face-to-face with a mysterious threat at their isolated farmhouse. Reminiscent of recent fears around the Covid-19 pandemic, Teacup plays up the themes of isolation and entrapment while also exploring a mystery framework that is punctuated with shocking body horror elements. With producer James Wan at the helm, the series has everything going for it.
Though adaptations of novels are nothing new in the world of TV and movies, Teacup is unique because it reportedly ignores most of its source material. Throughout the development process of the series, the creators were quick to point out that Teacup borrows loosely from McCammon's Stinger, and radically changes most of the important details.

2024 was a crowded year for television that had its share of misfires, but among the droves of disposable content was some stellar horror programming – from “Evil” to “The Creep Tapes” – that celebrates the genre’s versatility.
Television has reached a curious inflection point where what was once heralded as the medium’s Golden Age has turned into a daunting obligation where there’s far too much content to consume and the lengthy gaps between short seasons is enough to strip away even the most extreme enthusiasm. TV is in an interesting phase at the moment and while many prestige streaming series have struggled, the horror genre has thrived and turned out deeply captivating and creepy material. Television remains a safe haven for the horror genre and 2024 was a strong year for both brand new horror and returning series that are sure to entertain genre fans who are looking for something...

If you're looking for a high-concept, mysterious sci-fi show in the vein of "Under the Dome," "From," or "Manifest," Stephen King has a recommendation for you. The master of horror has always loved sharing recommendations for spooky genre offerings on social media, and this week he took to Threads (he left the cesspool formerly known as Twitter in November) to highlight the UK-made series "The Midwich Cuckoos."
"The Midwich Cuckoos (Amazon): Surprised there hasn't been more talk about this," King recently posted on Threads. "It's a brilliant re-imagining of John Wyndham's classic sci-fi/horror novel." The title of one of Wyndam's best-known novels may not sound familiar to you, but the name of its earlier film adaptation might: "The Midwich Cuckoos" became "Village of the Damned" when Wolf Rilla adapted it in 1960. That version of the story is considered an all-time-great horror movie, alternately dubbed as an "excellent...

Stephen King praises a sci-fi adaptation of a classic sci-fi horror, which flew under the radar when it was first released. As the year comes to a close, the seminal author has shared some of his TV favorites. They've varied from the Jamie Dornan crime thriller The Tourist to the short-lived Apple TV+ series Constellation. But several of his recommendations tended to have one thing in common.
Whether it was the straightforward horrors of shows like Evil or Teacup or the more subdued unease of a drama like the Billy Crystal-led Before, several of King's TV notables tend to revolve around unsettling situations that would not seem at all out of place in some of his most famous novels. The author's latest recommendation follows along those lines.

Television has proven itself to be an excellent medium for video game adaptations, given their tendency toward sprawling stories that need more room to breathe than a two or even three-hour film will allow. With the mega success of shows like The Witcher, The Last of Us, and Fallout, Hollywood is hungry for more series to fill their programming lineups. There are numerous game-to-tv adaptations currently in the works, including God of War, Mass Effect, and Devil May Cry, among others.

Twelve years after they left the young adult franchise behind, the Twilight TV show won't see one actor reprise their role. Multiple attempts to develop a new installment in the franchise have stalled over the years, until it was announced in September 2024 that Netflix was working on an animated adaptation of Stephanie Meyer's bestselling novel series. Netflix’s upcoming Twilight television series, Midnight Sun, might be animated, but that doesn’t mean all of the original stars of the film series are looking to reprise their roles. While some have expressed an interest — Peter Facinelli, for example, said it could “be fun to revisit” his role as Dr. Carlisle Cullen — at least one former Saga star is taking himself out of the running. While chatting about his Peacock horror series Teacup, TV Insider asked Chaske Spencer for his thoughts about the new Twilight show, and he did not seem to already know that it was happening. “They’re making an anime series on Netflix? Oh, well, I’ll watch it,” Spencer said with an air of surprise. “I’ll check it out. Yeah, I’ll look at it.” However, when pressed whether he is interested in reprising his role as Quileute werewolf Sam Uley, he declined.

The horror genre continues to be a major draw for audiences in movie theaters and on streaming. Most discussion of horror, however, is usually limited to movies, as there are far fewer TV shows in the genre that manage to break through. Though the 2000s was somewhat barren when it came to horror on the small screen, this changed in the 2010s. American Horror Story has been going strong now since 2011, for example, and the cancelled Channel Zero ran for four seasons starting in 2016. The Walking Dead universe also remains popular.
The rise of horror on TV really took off, however, with the rise of streaming and, specifically, the rise of Mike Flanagan. Flanagan brought shows like The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor, and Midnight Mass, among others to life. Streaming allows filmmakers to push horror boundaries on TV, as has been seen recently with Teacup on Peacock.
