Christopher Columbus has revealed how the 'Home Alone' McCallister family afforded their house. The director of the hit 1990 holiday flick, written by John Hughes, has revealed the professions of Kate (Catherine O'Hara) and Peter McCallister (John Heard), the parents of Kevin (Macaulay Culkin) – the eight-year-old boy who is left alone and fends off crooks who try to break into the family home in the movie – and explained how they could afford their huge Chicago mansion. He told The Hollywood Reporter: "Back then, John and I had a conversation about it, and we decided on what the jobs were. "Catherine O’Hara’s Kate McCallister was a very successful fashion designer, as suggested by the mannequins in the family’s basement. "As for John Heard’s Peter McCallister, he can’t say for sure. Hulu's best movies of 2024 offer up a mix of content. For many years, Hulu wasnt known as the home for original content, but instead, as the streamer where recent television shows landed the next day. Because so many networks and studios have their own streamers now, Hulu has become increasingly involved in producing its own original movies and shows.
In 2024, Hulu released just as many documentaries as it did fictional stories and it really featured a wide range of stories for its audience to enjoy. Subscribers got documentaries about growing up in Hollywood, horror stories about childrens programming, coming-of-age tales, and stories set in the 1930s. Among them all, these were the best Hulu had to offer in 2024.
Many of Hulus original movies and documentaries are also available on Disney+.

Amazon recently announced that Macaulay Culkin will join Fallout season 2's cast in an undisclosed role. Hopefully, Culkin will seamlessly integrate into Fallouts ensemble cast and post-apocalyptic world, because it can be hard to see him and not think of Home Alones Kevin McCallister. Culkin is part of a small tier of actors that will always have the acclaim of being a former beloved child star, but many find it hard to break the association with their breakout role.
Former child stars each take a different path after achieving stardom at a young age. Demi Lovatos Hulu documentary Child Star explores the vastly different experiences child actors go through. Some embrace the movies that made them famous, returning to the roles even decades later. Others use their financial security to chase passion projects or take obscure roles. The Coogan Law, which was signed into law in the state in 1939 and was named after child silent-film star Jackie Coogan, mandates that 15 percent of a child performer’s earnings be saved in a protected trust that they can access when they reach adulthood.
The other legislation that was greenlit on Thursday, Senate Bill 764, states that online influencers featuring children in at least 30 percent of their output must put away a percentage of gross earnings in a trust for the minor to access when they become an adult. Think Kenan Thompson was living large on all of that sweet Kenan and Kel cash before he landed Saturday Night Live? Think again. Like many child stars, there were adults in his life who weren’t exactly looking out for his best interests.
There wasn’t that much money in the Thompson house to begin with. “That first commercial when they paid me, it was like $800,” he says in Demi Lovato’s documentary Child Star, now streaming on Hulu. “I was 12, and it might as well have been a million dollars. You know how much candy I was thinking $800 was going to buy me?”
That eventually led to more acting jobs, but they were infrequent enough to keep Thompson grounded. “It was almost like I was forced to stay humble, if you will, because when I could have been at my most boisterous, ‘everybody knows my name’ kind of years,...

From no agency to being overworked to abuse, children endure a lot to act, sing, and dance. At the beginning of the film, Lovato and Marsh recruited a handful of children to discuss their interpretation of fame and what they wanted to be when they were older. Demi Lovato also contacted former Disney Channel costars to ask if they would participate in this documentary to recount their childhood experiences working for Disney Channel.
However, there are child stars that Demi Lovato recruited for this documentary from other sources, including Nickelodeon, movies, and content creators. Many former child entertainers admit shocking reveals in Child Star, discussing various aspects of the industry with Demi Lovato. All these former...

Demi Lovato brought their life experience full circle by co-directing the new Hulu documentary “Child Star.”
The former Disney Channel kid turned teen pop sensation looks beyond their own career journey to analyze the rise of the entire child performer industry — from the Shirley Temple era to the TikTok and YouTube generation.
Lovato recruited fellow child stars Drew Barrymore, Kenan Thompson, Christina Ricci, Raven-Symoné, Alyson Stoner and JoJo Siwa to share their stories on camera; Raven-Symoné, Siwa and Stoner also joined Lovato on Sept. 12 at a special screening of the documentary, held at Neuehouse Hollywood. “Getting to talk to them so candidly about our experiences was so meaningful to me,” Lovato told Variety.
Because of that shared experience, Lovato’s conversations were markedly different than sitting down with someone who hasn’t been there. “There was a connectedness that was really important to all of us,” Lovato said. “That’s...

A generation of kids (myself included) grew up with Demi Lovato on their TVs. They watched as an eight-year-old Lovato painted shapes and counted kittens in her first acting gig, on the PBS series Barney & Friends. A few years later, they belted the lyrics to “This is Me” during Disney’s Camp Rock sing-along specials and belly laughed to the “So Random” comedy skits on Sonny With a Chance. For Lovato, growing up in the public eye was all she knew. At age 16, she paused filming to tour her...
