The Tony and Emmy-winning actress Mary-Louise Parker, who last starred on Broadway in the two-character play “Heisenberg” in 2016, returned in another two-hander play “The Sound Inside,” which opened at Studio 54 on October 17. Written by Pulitzer Prize finalist Adam Rapp and directed by Tony winner David Cromer, “The Sound Inside” chronicles the nascent relationship between creative writing professor Bella Baird (Parker) and her student Christopher Dunn (Broadway newcomer Will Hochman), who bond over their passions for literature and writing and who together make a decision that will change both their lives.

Vocal Point, launched in conjunction with Luminary Media and Believe Entertainment, aired its first episode September 27th featuring guest Garth Brooks, with whom McBride and her sound-engineer husband John got their first big breaks in country music. It’s a freewheeling, wide-ranging format that feels intimate and conversational by design.

‘Purple Rain’ Director Gets Deep About Working With Prince: ‘How Is It You Just Told My Life Story?’
This weekend marks the 35th anniversary of the release of “Purple Rain.” But talking to the film’s writer-director Albert Magnoli, it seems like yesterday — at least in terms of the level of detail that he brings to his recollections of the development and production of Prince’s masterpiece.
Not only does the filmmaker remember all of the political and personal minefields he navigated in order to transform William Blinn’s script, “Dreams,” into the vehicle that propelled Prince to global superstardom, but he recalls the vibe in the rooms and the reactions of nearly everyone involved in its conception. But then again, given that Magnoli acquired his first professional endeavor as a director through what by any measure is a combination of feverish inspiration and calculated bluffing, maybe it’s not so surprising that he remembers the experience with such specificity.

[Editor’s Note: The following contains spoilers for Season 3 of “Stranger Things,” including the finale.]
Another season of “Stranger Things” brings another slew of opportunities to drop pop culture references by avowed cinephiles, the Duffer Brothers. Set in 1985, Season 3 includes plenty of nods to the decade, in addition to various horror and sci-fi films that influenced the more monstrous elements from the Upside Down.
Here’s an episode-by-episode breakdown of all the references and homages in the third season, beyond the Eggo waffles and Dungeons & Dragons that fans already know and love. Unless the songs have particular significance to the story, they won’t be mentioned here but are included in this separate soundtrack post.
“Chapter One: Suzie, Do You Copy?” “War Games” (1983) – A popular trope in movies that involve high security or nuclear weapons, the real-life two-man rule (or two-keyed lock) shows up at the beginning of the Matthew Broderick hacker movie “War Games” when two soldiers are tasked...

Shadowhunters may have come to a bittersweet conclusion, but another one of its actors had landed a new TV role.
Dominic Sherwood, who played Jace on the recently canceled Freeform drama, has joined the cast of Showtime's Penny Dreadful: City of Angels.
He is one of six new additions, joining the series alongside Adam Rodriguez, Michael Gladis, Lorenza Izzo, Thomas Kretschman, and Ethan Peck.
The new series is set in 1938 Los Angeles, and focuses on Det. Tiago Vega (Daniel Zovatto), who becomes embroiled in an epic story following a murder that shocks the city.
It quickly paves the way for Tiago and his family “grappling with powerful forces that threaten to tear them apart,” according to the official logline.

One of Max Ophüls’ best American movies is this razor-sharp ‘domestic film noir’ with excellent acting and a premise that was probably too sordid-real for 1949: cheap crooks blackmail an ordinary housewife trying to protect her family. Joan Bennett confronts the crisis head-on, facing down James Mason’s unusually sympathetic ‘collector.’

Falk Hentschel ("Reckless," "Transcendence," "White House Down") will play DC Comics hero Hawkman, aka. Carter Hall, for The CW's various DC Comics shows. Hentschel will first play the role in The CW's upcoming crossover episodes of "Arrow" and "The Flash" for this season.
Those episodes will be utilized as a kind of backdoor pilot to help establish the spinoff series "DC's Legends of Tomorrow," not unlike "Arrow" used a two-part story in its second season to establish "The Flash". "Legends" will premiere mid-season and Hentschel will continue on in the role for that series.
In this continuity, Carter Hall is the latest reincarnation of an Egyptian Prince who is fated to be reborn throughout time along with his soulmate Kendra Saunders/Hawkgirl (Ciara Renee). Carter can access the powers of Horus, transforming him into the winged warrior known as Hawkman.

This is the second year for the Makeup and Hairstylists Guild joining the awards game, and they've been a welcome addition to the circuit. They spread their nods thin across a number of categories, but it's a good window into what this branch digs, for sure. This year, the only two films on the Academy's bake-off list of finalists that didn't garner any recognition were "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" and "Noah." Meaning "Foxcatcher," "The Grand Budapest Hotel," "Guardians of the Galaxy," "Maleficent" and "The Theory of Everything" were each represented in one form or another. Meanwhile, "Guardians of the Galaxy" led with the most mentions at three, while "The Grand Budapest Hotel," "Interstellar" and "Into the Woods" each got a pair. As previously announced, Oscar-winning make-up artist Rick Baker and Emmy-nominated hair stylist Kathryn Blondell will receive the Guild's Lifetime Achievement Awards.
