Exclusive: Veteran TV and film writer Dana Stevens has signed with UTA for worldwide representation in all areas.

Most recently, Stevens wrote the upcoming Sony Pictures drama Fatherhood, directed by Paul Weitz and starring Kevin Hart. The film is an adaptation of Matt Logelin’s memoir which details Logelin’s life after his high school sweetheart passed away after giving birth to their daughter. Sony will release Fatherhood in April 2021.

Stevens is also writing two films for TriStar Pictures: The Nightingale, a World War II drama starring Dakota and Elle Fanning; and drama The Woman King, starring Viola Davis and directed by Gina Prince-Blythewood. Additionally, she is writing a project about Carly Simon based on Simon’s memoir Boys In The Trees for eOne, which Simon Curtis will direct. She is also in talks to write the Netflix movie The Girls of Summer, which follows the 1999 U.S. Women...

CBS has put in development Never Tell, a drama based on the book of the same title by Selena Montgomery (nom de plume for Stacey Abrams), from writer Talicia Raggs (NCIS: New Orleans) Abrams and Nina Tassler and Denise Di Novi’s Pat Ma Productions, in which CBS has an ownership stake and PatMa has a first-look deal. Abrams is attached as an executive producer. CBS TV Studios is the studio.

Written by Raggs, Never Tell, based on the book, revolves around a star linguistics professor with a complicated past who joins forces with a charismatic online investigative journalist following the discovery of a cryptic message that is the only clue in a missing persons case, setting them off on a partnership working cases with the New Orleans Police Department.

After setting a new record for the most nominations a series has ever received in a single year, “Game of Thrones” dominated the 2019 Primetime Creative Arts Emmys, which were handed out on Sunday evening in downtown Los Angeles.

The final season of the epic HBO series won 10 awards, taking Emmys for casting, music, main-title design, picture editing, sound mixing and sound editing, makeup, costumes, visual effects and stunt coordination — though it was beaten by “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” for cinematography, “Chernobyl” for production design and “Star Trek: Discovery” for prosthetic makeup.

Jane Lynch won the award for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series for “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” the fourth different show for which Lynch has won an Emmy. The show also won the guest-actor award, with Luke Kirby helping shut “Saturday Night Live” out of the guest acting winner’s circle for the first time since 2015.

Mary-Louise Parker and David Morse will star in a 2020 Broadway production of Paula Vogel’s Pulitzer Prize winning How I Learned to Drive, reprising roles they originated Off Broadway in 1997.

The Manhattan Theater Club production of How I Learned to Drive will begin previews on Friday, March 27, 2020, at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre, with an opening night of Wednesday, April 22, 2020.

The announcement was made today by producers Manhattan Theatre Club and Daryl Roth, Cody Lassen, The Dodgers in association with the Vineyard Theatre.

This weekend marks the 35th anniversary of the release of “Purple Rain.” But talking to the film’s writer-director Albert Magnoli, it seems like yesterday — at least in terms of the level of detail that he brings to his recollections of the development and production of Prince’s masterpiece.

Not only does the filmmaker remember all of the political and personal minefields he navigated in order to transform William Blinn’s script, “Dreams,” into the vehicle that propelled Prince to global superstardom, but he recalls the vibe in the rooms and the reactions of nearly everyone involved in its conception. But then again, given that Magnoli acquired his first professional endeavor as a director through what by any measure is a combination of feverish inspiration and calculated bluffing, maybe it’s not so surprising that he remembers the experience with such specificity.

Another season of “Stranger Things” brings another slew of opportunities to drop pop culture references by avowed cinephiles, the Duffer Brothers. Shadowhunters may have come to a bittersweet conclusion, but another one of its actors had landed a new TV role.

Dominic Sherwood, who played Jace on the recently canceled Freeform drama, has joined the cast of Showtime's Penny Dreadful: City of Angels.

He is one of six new additions, joining the series alongside Adam Rodriguez, Michael Gladis, Lorenza Izzo, Thomas Kretschman, and Ethan Peck.

The new series is set in 1938 Los Angeles, and focuses on Det. Tiago Vega (Daniel Zovatto), who becomes embroiled in an epic story following a murder that shocks the city.

It quickly paves the way for Tiago and his family “grappling with powerful forces that threaten to tear them apart,” according to the official logline.

Olga Merediz, who won a Tony Award for her work in the Broadway production of “In the Heights,” will reprise her role as Abuela Claudia in the upcoming film adaptation of the musical, producer Lin-Manuel Miranda announced in a tweet on Monday.

Merediz won the Best Featured Actress in a Musical Tony in 2008 for her work in “In the Heights.” She’s since been a series regular on the U.K. Sky1 series “Bounty Hunters” and has also had recurring roles on “Orange is the New Black,” “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” “Shades of Blue” and “Law & Order: SVU.”

Jon M. Chu is directing the feature based on Miranda’s musical that he created with Quiara Alegría Hudes. “In the Heights” follows a bodega owner in New York City’s Washington Heights neighborhood who has mixed feelings about closing his store and retiring to the Dominican Republic after inheriting his grandmother’s fortune.

One of Max Ophüls’ best American movies is this razor-sharp ‘domestic film noir’ with excellent acting and a premise that was probably too sordid-real for 1949: cheap crooks blackmail an ordinary housewife trying to protect her family. Hip-hop duo 88Glam and fellow Toronto native Nav unveiled a gloomy new video for their recent collaboration, “It’s a Flex.” 88Glam’s 88 Camino said the Dan Le-Moyne-directed clip is centered around “fashion, decadence and dissipation.”

What TVLine can report, however, is that CBS has set April premieres for the new series The Code and The Red Line, while Ransom Season 3 will begin Saturday, Feb. 16 at 8/7c.

The Code will get a special showcase on Tuesday, April 9 at 9 pm, before moving to its regular Mondays-at-9 time slot on April 15 (after Magnum P.I. wraps its freshman run). Television producer Ian Sander has died at the age of 68. With wife, Kim Moses, he founded Sander/Moses Productions, the company behind TV series including Profiler, Ghost Whisperer, and more recently, Reckless, which was cancelled by CBS after one season.

According to Deadline, Sander and Moses were just wrapping up production on their Spark TV show pilot for ABC. An alternate-history steampunk drama starring Antonia Thomas and Rege-Jean Page, Spark comes from British playwright Michael Cooney who executive produces with Sander and Thomas.

ABC has ordered a TV show pilot presentation for Spark. A soapy steampunk story, Spark is written by British playwright, Michael Cooney, who will executive produce with Ian Sander and Kim Moses. Ghost Whisperer veterans, Sander and Moses, executive produced Reckless, which was cancelled by CBS after one season of 13 episodes.

Per Deadline, Spark was previously titled Power. Starz already has a Power TV series, starring Omari Hardwick, Lela Loren, Naturi Naughton, and Joseph Siko.

Falk Hentschel ("Reckless," "Transcendence," "White House Down") will play DC Comics hero Hawkman, aka. Carter Hall, for The CW's various DC Comics shows. Hentschel will first play the role in The CW's upcoming crossover episodes of "Arrow" and "The Flash" for this season.

Those episodes will be utilized as a kind of backdoor pilot to help establish the spinoff series "DC's Legends of Tomorrow," not unlike "Arrow" used a two-part story in its second season to establish "The Flash". "Legends" will premiere mid-season and Hentschel will continue on in the role for that series.

In this continuity, Carter Hall is the latest reincarnation of an Egyptian Prince who is fated to be reborn throughout time along with his soulmate Kendra Saunders/Hawkgirl (Ciara Renee). Carter can access the powers of Horus, transforming him into the winged warrior known as Hawkman.

Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence and her “Hunger Games” director Francis Lawrence are reteaming on “The Dive,” which is being produced by James Cameron, TheWrap has learned.

Representatives for Jennifer Lawrence and Francis Lawrence did not respond to multiple requests for comment.

“The Dive” tells the tragic true story of freedivers Francisco “Pipin” Ferraras and his wife Audrey Mestre, who competed to travel as deep as possible underwater on a single breath of air.
